If you’ve attended a mainstream country concert in the past decade, you’re probably familiar with the part of the set where the headliner sprinkles in a non-obvious cover from an adjacent genre like pop, R&b, or classic rock. It’s a move with any number of purposes: to show an artist’s range of influences, to reel in a drifting crowd with a massive hit, to appeal to a wider audience, or to highlight how fluid and arbitrary genre borders really are when you strip a song back to its essentials.

Keith Reid, who cowrote the lyrics for most of Procol Harum’s original songs, died March 23 of cancer, his wife confirmed. No details on location were provided.
Reid was a writer on Procol Harum’s biggest hit, 1967’s “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” as well as on group classics as “A Salty Dog,” “Conquistador,” “Shine on Brightly” and “Grand Hotel.”
Born on October 19, 1946, in Hertfordshire, England, Reid began collaborating with Procol Harum keyboardist Gary Brooker in the 1960s. One of their first joint efforts, “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” reached No. 1 in their native U.K., as well as in Australia, Canada, and several European countries. It also reached No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart in the U.S.
Although not a performing member of Procol Harum, Reid was essential to the group’s mystique. His sometimes-oblique lyrics kept fans guessing as to interpretations, fueling discussions that kept the...

Jimmy Page’s guitar playing in Led Zeppelin made him famous. His memorable riffs and legendary guitar solos helped him ascend to the rank of guitar god. He owned several, but one of Page’s most famous guitars came to him when he more or less pressured another musician to sell it to him.
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page | George De Sota/Redferns Jimmy Page jammed with a friend of a friend during a series of Led Zeppelin rehearsals
Page never stopped hunting for new guitars. He favored a few, but he never hesitated to add to his guitar army. The Led Zeppelin founder did exactly that in 1974.
The manager of Michael Corby knew someone who knew Ray Thomas, Page’s roadie and guitar tech in Led Zeppelin. Page summoned Corby to a jam session when he heard Corby owned an all-black Gibson Les Paul Custom (the same model as...

John Legend has no steal and no save remaining.
Blake Shelton has one steal and no save remaining.
Nick Jonas has one steal and no save remaining.
Kelly Clarkson has no steal and one save remaining.
There are still 16 artists remaining for a total of 8 battle match-ups on Monday. Advisors for the coaches this round are Dua Lipa for Team Kelly, Kevin Jonas and Joe Jonas for Team Nick, Ella Mai for Team Legend and Bebe Rexha for Team Blake. The coaches are able to steal one losing artist from other coaches and save one losing artist on their own team. However, the team coach may only hit their button to save an artist once it is clear that no other coach is going to steal them.

Chris de Burgh, “Lady In Red”
It’s kind of fitting that this song was a hit in 1986, the height of the greed-is-good, conspicuous consumption Eighties; it’s the ultimate trophy-wife ballad (barely edging out Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight”). How did it take so long to get a Lifetime movie about the Coreys? A Tale of Two Coreys is a tragic Hollywood rise-and-fall saga: two teen actors who make it big in the Eighties, complete with fire-hazard hair, drugs, groupies and pastel blazers. Corey Haim and Corey Feldman first paired up in the 1986 vampire classic The Lost Boys, and became inseparable BFFs, only to crash hard. In other words, it's a story made to order for a lurid low-budget Lifetime biopic, with a cast full of unknowns. But unlike...

No doubt fans of 21 Jump Street recognized plenty of callbacks and self-deprecating cracks made by Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the über-meta sequel 22 Jump Street. From a running gag about how sequels are more expensive versions of the exact same thing (including undercover partners Schmidt and Jenko’s high-tech new HQ, which Jenko describes as cool “as a Cube of Ice”) to the line “F— you, doves!” (surely a throwback to the first installment’s fan-favorite line “F— you, science!”), the movie was chockablock with them.

Sally Barker is the favourite to win The Voice UK.
There are just four finalists left in the BBC singing contest all hoping to be crowned the 2014 winner.
Bookmaker Boylesports have given Tom Jones's representative Barker odds of 11/8 in the run-up to tomorrow's final, with Ricky Wilson's Christina Marie second favourite at 6/4.
Kylie Minogue's act Jamie Johnson follows at 5/1, with will.i.am's hopeful Jermain Jackman currently being placed as the outsider at 6/1.
Barker is thought to have been the odds-on favourite for a number of weeks, and her triumph would result in a second win for Team Tom (who was victorious in series one with Leanne Mitchell).

On Monday's episode of "The Talk," Sara Gilbert had exciting news to share with her fellow co-hosts. She announced her engagement to musician girlfriend Linda Perry. Gilbert told the audience that the proposal happened "about a week ago," and caught her by surprise.
Gilbert says she and Perry were in a park eating, when people with string instruments showed up and began playing "Love Song," by The Cure. She says the couple had decided that particular tune would be "their song," as another favorite between them, John Waite's "Missing You," was about a breakup.
As the song played, Perry popped the question. The pair, who announced they were in a relationship last fall, were eating in a park and enjoying listening to a musician playing nearby when the surprises started. "I'm sitting there listening and I'm kind...

Rocker John Waite went to the movies in Los Angeles a couple of days ago to see Warm Bodies. His 1984 hit “Missing You” plays during a pivotal part of the Jonathan Levine film–a moment where the action shifts from the terrifying to the tender. “I was really very pleased,” says Waite. “It’s a great movie.”
For those who haven’t yet seen it, the movie is based on the Isaac Marion novel of the same name and takes place after an unnamed catastrophe has obliterated much of the planet, leaving behind a population of zombies. One in particular,...

While he's gone from a stoner coming-of-age tale to a cancer comedy to this weekend's zombie rom-com "Warm Bodies," one thing that has marked the the films of Jonathan Levine have been a keen ear on the soundtrack. And that's not different with this latest effort, which serves up a pretty solid selection of tracks to go with the undead. Used to highlight both comedic and character moments, the songs in the movie range from John Waite's "Missing You" (used as a bit of a running gag), Guns 'N Roses "Patience" and Scorpions "Rock You Like A Hurricane" for the lighter moments, while serious brooders like Bon Iver, Bob Dylan, The National and Bruce Springsteen perfectly cue up the more emotional beats. Meanwhile, M83 and Delta Spirit keeps things from getting too heavy. There's no official soundtrack release, so you can use the below to make your own mixtape.

Friday. August 31st, was a special day at Knott's Berry Farm. As the sun began its descent and dipped down behind the buildings and stores of Calico Ghost Town, a lucky group of press, bloggers, fans and staff members gathered in front of a corner building on School House Road.
1973 School House Road, to be exact, which clever fans of Knott's Scary Farm may have already realized is a reference to the very first Halloween Haunt in October of 1973.
The building we all waited so eagerly to enter was originally known as Mother Murphy's Boarding House many years prior. Over the decades it has been the location of various other shops, but as of September 1st it has become the home of the 40th Anniversary Haunt Museum. The exterior of the building is now host to spiderwebs with flickering jack-o-lanterns perched upon the porch roof and a chain hanging across the front steps.

Birthday shoutouts (for today and tomorrow) go to Patrick Wilson (above), who is 39, John Waite is 57, Becki Newton is 34, Audra McDonald is 42, Thomas Gibson is 50, Tom Cruise is 50, and Betty Buckley is 65. And I'd like to give a very special shoutout for Laura Branigan, who would have been 55 today. Laura is my 2nd all-time favorite singer, and I still mourn her loss eight years after her untimely death. I'm doing a top ten, but it's difficult to keep it at ten: 10. "Solitaire," 9."Shattered Glass," 8. "Self Control," 7. "Ti Amo," 6. "Didn't We Almost Win It All," 5."Close Enough," 4. "The Lucky One," 3. "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You," 2. "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye," 1. "Cry Wolf". Just another heads up that tomorrow is a holiday in the U.S., and we'll be taking the day off, except for a Meme (Ed is back!), and a Dool Liveblog. Have a safe and fun July 4th,...

The game that enthralled students at Hogwarts is starting to stir an interest at Oxford University
Huddled together in the chill January wind, the players listened as a Ppe fresher in a black cape read the rules of the game: a Quaffle through a hoop would score 10 points, capturing the Snitch would yield a bountiful 30, and under no circumstances was there to be any "grabbing of broomsticks". With that, they were off: two teams, with seven players each, racing round a playing field and trying to shoot a basketball through hula-hoops.
To onlookers it may have seemed outlandish and bizarre, but to these mostly teenage Oxford students it was the realisation of a dream. For Quidditch, the game they grew up reading about in the pages of Harry Potter books, is no longer a fictional activity played by witches and wizards in the air. It is a fast-paced and disconcertingly...

Kelly Clarkson is taking no prisoners on her new album, “Stronger.” Today, a new song, “You Love Me,” hit the internet. This time, someone has broken her heart with his two-faced ways. Hard to tell if it’s a romantic disappointment ora relationship of some other kind, but, regardless, it’s gone horribly awry. Despite the upbeat, 80’s new wave bouncy underpinnings (with a little touch of John Waite’s “Missing You” thrown in), all is not well in K-Town. Someone is pulling the old “I’m not good enough for you” scam on Clarkson, which the first "American Idol" is not not falling for,...

Chris Keller ain't tellin'... but we are.
Actor/musician Tyler Hilton played coy on Twitter when he posted, "I'm doing something soooo exciting today...but I can't tell u. It's killing me! I hate secrets. But I'll tell u soon. :)"
If there's anything we've learned from "One Tree Hill," though, it's that secrets never stay secret for long. Sources confirm to Zap2it that Hilton is returning to the show as singer/songwriter/homewrecker Chris Keller.
No word yet on how long he'll be visiting Tree Hill for, but we're thrilled to have him back. Keller caused some serious problems for everyone's favorite married teenagers in Seasons 2 and 3. We haven't seen him since a brief appearance in Season 4, when his tour bus happened upon our heroes -- who were, incidentally, in need of a ride to Texas to bail a friend out of jail... and crash a strange prom.

Conan O'Brien spoofs sex appeal! The host is making a clean slate by washing off the old desk for his new show on TBS. In a new promo for "Conan," the funnyman is scrubbing down his desk to the tune of Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me" with suds and water going everywhere. This is the first of the promos for the show that has featured Conan himself. The other comedic spots were to the tune of John Waite's "Missing You" and showed people from different walks of life coping with Conan not being on the air. Conan returns to TV on November 8th, airing on TBS.

Conan O'Brien's return to television is fast approaching, and TBS has some great promos.
The show, which is unambiguously named "Conan," debuts Nov. 8.
The Team Coco YouTube channel has been posting numerous short promos set to John Waite's "Missing You," in which various regular Schmoes exhibit just how much they've missed TV's redheaded stepchild from their TV.
This recent one has to be our favorite. So unexpected.
Sexy, sexy string dance!
Will you be tuning in on Nov. 8?

Big news on the Conan O'Brien front: Tickets are finally available for the first week of Coco's new show Conan (yes, we're all still disappointed by the title). To celebrate this momentous occasion, TBS has released a new promo featuring an old man, a young stripper and a John Waite classic. Oh, plus Conan's patented string-cutting dance. Check out the not-so-scandalous clip below.

Sb: Oh, my pleasure.
Gt: I'm going to try to mention all of "The Touch" [above] stuff at the very beginning, front load that and get into the rest of the interview afterwards.
Sb: Sure, yeah.
Gt: I read that you originally wrote "The Touch" for the Sylvester Stallone movie Cobra. Is that right?
Sb: Yeah.
