Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels is being renewed for Season 2, Variety has learned from sources.
The show, which stars Aldis Hodge as Cross, has yet to debut its first season or even set a premiere date. But according to sources, Amazon was impressed enough with what they have seen from the first season to greenlight the second and begin casting. Jeanine Mason has reportedly already been cast in Season 2.
Reps for Amazon declined to comment.
If “Cross” proves to be popular, it would be the latest successful Amazon series based on a long-running novel character. The company found themselves with a massive hit on their hands courtesy of “Reacher” starring Alan Ritchson, based on the Jack Reacher novels written by Lee Child. Likewise, Amazon’s longest-running series to date was the cop drama “Bosch,” based on the Harry Bosch novels written by Michael Connelly.

The 34-year-old British actor Nicholas Hoult kicked off production last week on Warner Bros. Discovery’s next big bet: “Superman” with director James Gunn and actors David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. The star of “About a Boy,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and Hulu series “The Great” recently went on Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcast and talked a bit about preparing for the role of the evil mastermind Lex Luthor.
First, he complimented his new boss Gunn for making the audition process fun. He said he enjoyed the “Guardians of the Galaxy” auteur’s method of “try[ing] things in the moment, just shouting out from the monitors, ‘Say this line. Do this! Do that!’”
Then he added that even though Luthor is better known for his brains rather than his brawn, Hoult has been hitting the weights. “There’s that bit in ‘All-Star Superman’ [the Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely...

This article contains spoilers for the ending of Lost.
Hiroyuki Sanada, star and producer of FX’s excellent miniseries Shōgun, is one of the most successful Japanese actors working in Hollywood today. English-speaking audiences have to come to know and appreciate the Tokyo-born performer through his roles in films such as The Last Samurai, Speed Racer, The Wolverine, Army of the Dead, and John Wick: Chapter 4.
TV nerds (including yours truly) had an entirely different introduction to Hiroyuki Sanada, however. For us, Sanada’s Western pop culture career begins with the final season of classic ABC drama Lost.
Despite what you may have heard about its ending Lost is one of the best genre series to ever grace network television. It also, admittedly, wasn’t perfect. And its simultaneously ingenious and infuriating use of Sanada in its sixth and final season is a perfect microcosm of the show overall.

Bosch is definitely one of the most successful and critically acclaimed cop dramas out there, and that’s saying something considering there are thousands to choose from. Adapted non-chronologically from Michael Connelly’s popular mystery novel series, Bosch features Titus Welliver as the stoic LAPD detective, Harry Bosch. Throughout the show’s seven-season run, Bosch has survived shootouts, military assassins, serial killers, lawsuits, internal affairs probes, and a lengthy suspension — all stemming from his unwavering commitment to a single principle: the pursuit of justice for all. Starting all the way back in 2014 and ending with its final season in 2021, Bosch...

When Bosch ended its run on Prime Video, we didn't anticipate it would lead to a full-fledged franchise.
The latest series to enter development focuses on Detective Renée Ballard, who is tasked with running the LAPD's new cold case division.
The division is "a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest caseload in the city," Prime Video states in the series' description.
"Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination.
"When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she'll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life."
"From books to screen, Michael Connelly creates authentic and suspenseful stories, led by distinctive characters who make audiences care and connect," said Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD originals, unscripted, and targeted programming at Amazon MGM Studios.

Amazon Prime Video has ordered a “Bosch” spinoff about the LAPD’s cold case division and Det. Renée Ballard.
The 10-episode series was first reported as being in the works at Amazon MGM Studios in February. Like “Bosch,” the series will be based on the work of author Michael Connelly.
Per the official description, the currently untitled series “follows Detective Renée Ballard, who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.”

The Bosch universe is expanding further. Prime Video has given a 10-episode series order to the Untitled Renée Ballard project, a Bosch spinoff about the LAPD’s Cold Case Division.
The newly greenlighted series is one of two projects inspired by the work of bestselling author Michael Connelly that has been in the works at Amazon MGM Studios since February. The other, the Untitled J. Edgar project, remains in development. It follows Harry Bosch’s former partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, who is tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami.

When Amazon greenlit a series based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling series of Harry Bosch novels, there was one detail everyone involved knew they had to get right. The show’s success hinged on finding the right actor to play LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.
Luckily, the Bosch creators struck gold with Titus Welliver, who’s embodied the gruff detective over nine seasons of Prime Video’s Bosch and its Amazon Freevee spinoff, Bosch: Legacy. But the casting process wasn’t easy, as Connelly recently recalled.
‘Dozen and dozens of actors’ were considered for the title role on ‘Bosch’
On Nov. 8, Connelly sat down for a virtual chat about his new novel, Resurrection Walk, with author S.A. Crosby as part of Barnes & Noble Midday Mysteries series. At one point, the conversation turned to Bosch, with Connelly opening up about how Welliver landed the role.

The live-action Titans series had tremendous potential, from its source material to the pedigrees of the talent bringing the heroes to television. Titans failed to work from the first episode to the last. As a television series, it needed a bigger budget for better effects, and the caliber of actors needed to be stronger to pull off these larger-than-life personalities.
Most of the storylines were drawn from Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’s seminal run from the early 1980s or the early issues from Geoff Johns and Mike McKone’s run in the 2000s. Both required a consistent tonality along with a budget to make the scope of the stories work.

Harry Bosch is back where he belongs. After an earthquake rendered the Bosch character’s iconic home uninhabitable, he spent most of the first season of the spinoff series Bosch: Legacy living in temporary quarters with a far less impressive view. A group of high-profile actors have signed a public letter declaring that they would rather stay on strike than accept a bad deal.
Thousands of stars including Sarah Paulson, Chelsea Handler, Christian Slater, Sandra Oh, Daveed Diggs, Pedro Pascal and Kal Penn have signed the letter, which is addressed to the SAG-AFTRA Negotiating Committee.
“Back in June, before we went on strike, a large group of members signed an open letter telling our leaders that we would rather go on strike than take a bad deal. Now, more than 100 days into our strike, that is still true. As hard as this is, we would rather stay on strike than take a bad deal,” the letter opens.

A major part of the first season of Bosch: Legacy revolved around Maddie following her father’s footsteps in joining the LAPD as a cop, a decision that elicited mixed feelings in both her and her father. On one hand, Harry was proud of Maddie, but at the same time, the risks involved with the vocation made him increasingly anxious for the safety of his daughter. Maddie’s initial enthusiasm for joining the force was also dialed down a bit as she faced the harsh realities of a brutal, unforgiving world, which undoubtedly took a mental toll on her. Linking this particular tone of narrative, the ending of the first season subjected the Bosch family to a horrible fate, as Maddie gets targeted and later abducted by the serial killer known simply as Screen Cutter, whom she was pursuing during her short tenure as a cop.

Working as a journalist covering the police beat in the ‘80s and ‘90s, Michael Connelly believed his reporter’s job would be a means to an end in becoming a best-selling author one day. He would parlay his riches of stories from the various personalities of law enforcement officers he met during his newspaper years and craft a fictional no-nonsense L.A. Police Detective named Harry Bosch. Bosch’s creed would be simple and to the point: “Everybody counts or nobody counts.”
In 1992, The Black Echo became Connelly’s first best-seller featuring Detective Bosch. Private investigator Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) has already lost his beloved ex-wife in a gangland shooting, and in Bosch: Legacy’s second-season opener on Freevee, daughter Maddie (Madison Lintz), a rookie cop for the LAPD, is in critical danger after being kidnapped last season by a serial rapist in a Mexican wrestling mask. “Harry feels helpless,” says executive producer Henrik Bastin of the former cop. “He’s no longer on the force and he can’t go after his own daughter’s abductor.” (Credit: Warrick Page/Amazon Freevee) Of course, Bosch is a play-outside-of-the-rules kind of guy, and the first two nail-bitingly intense episodes flash back and forth between Maddie’s brave attempts to survive her dire situation and her dad’s desperate attempts to locate her. “This case,” Bastin says, “will strain relationships and be an [ongoing] major storyline.” Meanwhile, the FBI is homing in on Harry and his frenemy,...
