The Lucasfilm marketing machine is really beginning to fire on all cylinders.
With little over three weeks until D-day, the Powers That Be have dropped four – count ’em, four – international spots for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and they each show Rey wrangling with her newfound abilities.
Having made contact with the wayward Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To, The Last Jedi is all about Rey gaining a better understanding of the Force – the light side, the dark side, and that all-important balance between the two – though Luke is wary that her unbridled power will lead her down a dark and dangerous road, from which there is no return.
And you can hardly blame him, given he watched Ben Solo (Aka Kylo Ren) reduce his Jedi Academy to ash and rubble all those years ago. Rey is adamant that she won’t succumb to the dark side (“Kylo failed you, I won...

Reddit is at it again.
With Wonder Woman reigning supreme at the box office – for the record, Patty Jenkins’ DC origin movie has racked up $709 million worldwide, and is now the third highest-grossing domestic film of 2017 behind Beauty and the Beast and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – the DC Extended Universe has been thrust under the microscope once again, and Reddit has relayed the latest helping of DC-related speculation for us to dissect.
Before we get into things, it’s important to stress that this report ought to be filed firmly in the rumor cabinet for now – remember, Warner Bros. plans to keep a lid on its release plans for the likes of The Batman, The Flash, and Gotham City Sirens until Justice League swoops into theatres in November. Nevertheless, the rumor mill continues to operate at full tilt, and one possible nugget of information concerns the World’s Greatest Detective.

Seeing as the world is apparently out of new creative ideas (case in point: nü-MacGyver), it’s not surprising that so many movies are now superhero-themed, sequels, or remakes. Inferior cinematic remakes are a dime a dozen: Just over the past few weeks we’ve seen pale versions of Ben-Hur, Beauty And The Beast, and The Magnificent Seven, a remake of a remake of Seven Samurai. But occasionally, a remake outpaces its original source material, stoking the fire that revisiting previously released films might actually be worth it. As unlikely as it may seem that a valuable movie was salvaged from 1977’s Pete’s Dragon (or 1960’s The Little Shop Of Horrors), many of the films below started with exemplary originals, and then surpassed them.
1. The Ring (2002), remake of Ringu (1998)

The Descendants are adding a poor, unfortunate soul to their ranks.
Disney Channel on Friday announced that China Anne McClain (A.N.T. Farm) is joining the cast of Descendants 2 as Uma, the daughter of legendary sea witch Ursula. McClain previously voiced Freddie, the daughter of The Princess and the Frog‘s Dr. Facilier, in the animated series Descendants: Wicked World.
The sequel — premiering in 2017, with production slated to begin this summer — will also introduce the offspring of Captain Hook and Beauty and the Beast‘s Gaston; their casting will be announced soon.
The cast of the original 2015 film will also return for Descendants 2 — Dove Cameron as Mal, daughter of Maleficent; Cameron Boyce as Carlos, son of Cruella de Vil; Booboo Stewart as Jay, son of Jafar; Sofia Carson as Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen; and Mitchell Hope as King Ben, son of Belle and the Beast — along with Kenny Ortega as director, executive producer and choreographer.
“Just when you thought ‘Happily Ever After’ had come to the land of Auradon, Descendants 2 turns the page to reveal a whole new level of mystery and surprise,” warns Disney Channel president Gary Marsh.
Your thoughts on McClain as Ursula 2.0? Any casting suggestions for Captain Hook or Gaston’s kids? Whatever’s on your mind, drop it in a comment below.

Having made "quite a few cop shows" in his time, Paul Marquess (The Bill, Crime Stories, Hollyoaks) knew he had to do something different with Channel 5's Suspects.
Produced without a traditional script, the drama is semi-improvised, with its stars - Fay Ripley, Damien Molony and Clare-Hope Ashitey - working instead from a detailed story document.
Ahead of the launch of its third series, Marquess spoke to Digital Spy about the challenges of producing a show like Suspects and why he and his production team at Newman Street are looking to make more shows in the same format.
What can viewers expect from the third series of Suspects?
"We've got four really strong episodes. The first one that's up features a great guest performance from Emmett Scanlan - really strong - and then the second one... it may well be my favourite episode.
"It's really dark and to me it's like the uber-Suspects episode.

The 2014 Pulitzer Prize was handed over to the Guardian and the Washington Post for coverage of documents released by National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden. He saw systemic problems within the world of information-gathering and privacy policy at his agency, and captured the imaginations of the world with his tales of general 'Big Brother'-type behaviour online.
The coverage was extensive, and like all great journalism, was executed with courage, candour and critical thinking, all while producing effective change in the culture. Some see the award as a disgrace, an indirect tip of the hat from the Pulitzer jury to Snowden himself. How can one man be a National Security criminal and a hero at the same time?
This year's opening night film at Hot Docs, "The Internet's Own Boy," explores that very question with the 90-minute tale of another info activist named Aaron Swartz. Director Brian Knappenberger has...

Since we grew up surrounded by Top of the Pops and Smash Hits magazines, we were always going to be pretty happy with the lineup for series two of The Big Reunion. While others moaned about the lack of big names, we were chuffed. 3T? Check. Damage? Yep, remember them. Eternal? Obviously. A1? Well, we were a bit old for them, but then Ben was adorable on Big Brother. Brand new supergroup 5th Story? Our karaoke dreams made a reality.
But even we were left scratching our heads when Girl Thing were announced. Sure, we remember them vaguely trying to be a hit; we remember their one big song 'Last One Standing' in the sense that if someone hummed it we might have some kind of recollection. We know Jodi Albert, of course. But were Girl Thing really going to hit the nostalgic value of series one of The Big Reunion?...

Disney Channel has just cast "Beauty and the Beast's" teenage son Ben in "Descendants" ... and he clearly gets all his good looks from his mother's side of the family.
Meet Australian newcomer Mitchell Hope, who joins the contemporary live-action adventure-comedy that taps into Disney's heritage characters -- notably its most evil villains -- to introduce their progeny, a modern-day generation of teenagers who will ultimately question the evil that's always been in their hearts.
The 19-year-old will play Ben, the benevolent teenage son of the King and Queen ... a.k.a. Beast and Belle. Ben is poised to take the throne in a present-day idyllic kingdom, and his first proclamation is to offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen, and Jafar, who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters.

If you live in Scotland, and have attended a Cineworld over the last several months, there is a strong chance you have seen this trailer for We Are Northern Lights before your chosen feature presentation:
If you have seen this in a Glasgow Cineworld, you may well have heard someone booing loudly during the trailer. That someone was me. I am sorry if I removed any pleasure from your cinematic experience, but I can only plead that I was allergic to the trailer and I would prefer to boo than to vomit.
The trailer made me react this way because it had everything I hate about Scottish cinema in it; the twee, indie soundtrack, endless shots of gray skies, and the bile-swilling obsession with stereotypes of Scotland. For example, a Spiky Haired Girl arrives on screen, declaring “I’ve not got ginger hair, and I’m not wearing a kilt,...

As if being a reality show champion wasn't enough, Australia's "Big Brother" winner Benjamin Norris surprised his longtime boyfriend by popping the question.
In true old fashioned tradition, the 32-year-old Norris got down on one knee and proposed to his boyfriend, also named Ben, with an heirloom ring.
“This was a diamond that my great grandfather bought for my great grandmother and it was worn by my parents on their wedding day so it's something that is a part of my family,” Norris gushed. “Since I've met Ben all I have wanted is for him to be a part of my family."
Norris, an accounts manager from Victoria, is the first openly gay winner of the show.
In true old fashioned tradition, the 32-year-old Norris got down on one knee and proposed to his boyfriend, also named Ben, with an heirloom ring.

Revenge Recap: Victoria Schemes, Daniel Tries to Survive Prison and Emily Digs for the Truth
Revenge finally returned from hiatus this week with an episode that continued to prove why this show is so delicious. Let's just get right to it, shall we?
Let's Play "Pin The Murder on The Donkey". The way I see it, the main difference between Emily and Victoria is the way in which they react to situations. Emily is more of a "set up a plan and see it through methodically" kind of girl, while Victoria is a "let's try everything crazy and see what sticks" woman. Clearly Victoria isn't happy that Daniel is being charged with Tyler's murder, but instead of sitting back and letting their high-priced attorney (Ben) do his job, she decides to get creative. When Charlotte can't accurately describe the hooded figure she and Declan saw on the beach, Victoria uses...

Dear Lady Gaga, From Whom All Good Things Flow, This Thanksgiving I'm Thankful For...
For those of us living here in the U.S., next week is our Thanksgiving holiday where we give thanks for living in a country riven by political strife, sky high unemployment and the sense that everything has completely gone off the rails.
Or something like that.

Plus meet Brother Gaga, Jai Rodriguez sports a new look, and we go "Over the Rainbow" on a cat organ.
The nation and indeed the world took some time to remember Sept 11, 2001 over the weekend. Beyond a couple incidents, it went smoother than I had anticipated. I did find a memorial page to the Glbt victims of September 11. It was so many more than just Mark Bingham.
The story of NYC professional photographer Bill Biggart is stunning. He walked toward the towers that morning, taking pictures with three cameras, two film and one digital. Eventually he got so close documenting the tragedy that he was crushed by debris. His camera bag was recovered, and the film was ruined, but his flash card was preserved. His last photo is stunning, and indeed the 150 photos on the digital camera tell the story of his day.
Because Big Brother hadn't been that offensive this season,...

Olly Murs’ twin brother Ben has revealed how the pair have not spoken, ever since Olly missed his wedding to appear on The X Factor.
Admitting that he has fallen out with his whole family since Olly let him down, Ben told The News Of The World that not only did Olly fail to turn up to the wedding, but he didn’t even phone or text to wish the happy couple good luck.
Ben said:
“I understand why Olly wasn’t at the wedding. It clashed with the X Factor semi-final and singing has been his dream for years.
“But what hurt was that he never even told me himself he wasn’t going to be able to be my best man.

Former 'Big Brother' housemates caused trouble as they returned to the compound yesterday (18.08.10). Posh Londoner Ben - who was the sixth person evicted - and Beyonce Knowles lookalike Rachael, who was the first to go, re-entered the compound last night after housemates were given the chance to bring back old pals by Bob Righter. Mario was delighted to choose Ben to return, and told him: ''I've been thinking about you a lot since you left. It's so good to see you!'' However, shortly after arriving, Ben was called to the Diary Room and chastised by Big Brother for speaking about the outside ..

Ife and Corin are in the garden talking about today’s nominations. Corin tells Ife she finds it hard to talk to people on nomination day and has decided to make “More of talking to other people.” Ife says: “I never speak with anyone on Mondays’” preferring to spend time by herself.
Rachel, Andrew and Keeley have been called to the diary room. Big Brother explains to the new housemates that today they must take part in a task, ‘Don’t Come Dine with Me.’ They must each cook one meal for their fellow housemates. Bespectacled Andrew was given a bizarre selection of ingredients - including liver and custard - so whipped up a half-sweet, half-savoury pie for each housemate.
