The MCU is currently the biggest cinematic universe ever, with 33 movies and dozens of live-action shows. It has introduced hundreds of characters, ranging from humans to gods and strange creatures. Some characters protect the Earth from evil forces, while others seek to plunge it into chaos.
Judging the overall strength and powers of these characters is tricky since it depends on the situation and how they use their abilities. To get a clearer picture, we turned to Ranker, where nearly 7,000 fans voted for who they think is the most powerful character in the MCU. Here are the results.
10. Vision
I was surprised to see Vision ranked so high on the list, while his creator didn’t even make the top 15. But it makes sense. Vision was created by the Mind Stone, and characters with powers from the Infinity Stones tend to rank really high.

From humans to gods and strange creatures some decided to protect the Earth from evil forces, while some wanted to plunge it into chaos.

Thor’s portrayal in “God of War: Ragnarök” is one of a strong and complex enemy tied to the main plot of the game. His battles with Kratos are not just physical contests but also pivotal moments that drive the story forward and develop Kratos’ character.
The rematch they have at the climax of the story in the game changes how players perceive Kratos. Their second encounter highlights Kratos’ enduring strength, strategic mind, and capacity for mercy, which redefine his identity as the God of War.

The best days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are behind it, and I don't just mean the fall from its decade-long box office throne. Any media that reaches pop culture omnipresence like Marvel movies did inspires a counterwave of backlash -- it's just the way the discourse flows. And with the MCU, there's a lot to critique.
There's shoddy filmmaking, the centering of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige as the creative glue, the cheap self-deprecating humor that's spread its roots across Hollywood (e.g. Netflix's live-action "Cowboy Bebop"), and the aimless, complicated-yet-simplistic narrative that exists in service of nothing but its further propagation. That last issue is inherited from Marvel Comics, yet if you dive into current Marvel comics, you'll find one all-too-aware series that is weaving MCU critique into its (meta)text. That series is Al Ewing's "Immortal Thor".

Marvel hasn't been having the best time of late and the shaky attempt to recapture lightning in a bottle that was "Thor: Love and Thunder" is a good example. Whereas its predecessor, "Thor: Ragnarok," saw star Chris Hemsworth leaning into his comedic sensibilities to great effect, even Hemsworth himself agreed that "Love and Thunder" was just too silly. But when the God of Thunder made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut all the way back in 2011, the opposite was true.
Whereas "Iron Man," the film that changed Hollywood forever by kicking off the massively popular interconnected universe, was led by Robert Downey Jr. and his magnetic charisma, 2011's "Thor" was a darker affair that embraced the character's origins and delivered what was essentially a fantasy adventure with relative unknowns in the lead roles of Thor and Loki. In the late-aughts, Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston did not enjoy the superstar status they do today,...

The Drake and Kendrick beef took a fun turn yesterday when everyone’s favorite God of War weighed in. Drake has a lot to worry about these days, so a call out from the Ghost of Sparta himself is the last thing he needs.
A series of fake reaction posts have come out on Twitter/X, and the most recent involves Kratos’ iconic speech from God of War 3.

The fake tweet caught the ire of the Ghost of Sparta and he unleashed his rage at Drake.

The first season of “Loki” was the most popular of all the Marvel series to premiere on Disney+, and for good reason: The imaginative world of the Time Variance Authority (Tva) and the core relationships established within it — most notably the warm and hilarious partnership between Tom Hiddleston’s title character and Tva functionary Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) — yielded one of the liveliest and most involving Marvel screen stories since the original “Iron Man.” But as impressive as Season 1 was, it was only a warm-up for the more ambitious, suspenseful, and poignant Season 2, in which Loki finally fulfills a destiny set up for him 13 years ago in the movie “Thor” — though in a way that neither he nor the audience could possibly have predicted.

Thor, the God of Thunder, is one of the most beloved and fan-favorite characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While fans love his comic book iteration more, Chris Hemsworth’s live-action Thor is not far behind. After several appearances and four solo movies, Hemsworth’s Thor has a separate fan base among the Marvel fandom.
Chris Hemsworth in and as Thor
Yet, he is not the only actor to have portrayed Thor. Thor, the Marvel character or Nordic God, has made several appearances on-screen, whether it is in live-action or animation. And Pilou Asbæk is the latest actor who would be seen playing Thor, and he reckons it will be totally different from MCU’s version.

Santa Monica Studio and Sony’s God of War Ragnarok sweeped awards when it released in 2022. In fact, it went on to win the most number of accolades at the Game Awards that year. The release of God of War Ragnarök back in 2022 brought with itself an end to the adventure of Kratos and his son in the world of Norse Mythology, and fans have been asking for more ever since. While the studio was considerate enough to deliver fans a free Dlc for the game recently, it might not be enough to quench the eagerness of the players waiting for a whole other sequel soon.
Gow Ragnarök released back in 2022
Fortunately, good news has appeared around the block as according to certain rumors, Santa Monica, the studio responsible for developing the franchise, has posted new job listings. This potentially indicates how they are gearing up to begin developing the next title in the series soon.

Legendary writer Neil Gaiman knows a thing or two about Norse mythology. His book "American Gods" (which was turned into a TV show that went through a lot of problems) features characters like Odin and Loki. Gaiman also wrote an enjoyable book called "Norse Mythology," described on the book jacket as "a bravura rendition of the great northern tales." Gaiman has also created some of the most renowned comics of all time, most notably his "The Sandman" series. With all that in mind, it seems like Gaiman would be perfect to write a story about the Marvel character Thor. And as it turns out, that almost happened.
In a new Tumblr post, Gaiman revealed that a few years ago he was asked to write an animated series about Thor for Marvel. Gaiman took the gig seriously and dove into research. But the project fizzled when he butted heads with what Marvel had in mind.

The Marvel Comics have a lot more than just a ton of superheroes, and each one of them is incredibly powerful with their own magnificent superpowers. While they all have their respective powers ranging from magic to super strength and a lot of others, some of them are also gifted with immortality. Like Hulk, for one. Or Wolverine. Or Thor.
The Marvel Comics Universe
But while these 3 are often regarded as some of the strongest deathless superheroes — with Point Break even considered to be the most powerful immortal after all the times he came out victorious despite facing the most brutal of villains — there is one other mutant who surpasses all of these characters’ undyingness: Mr. Immortal, aka Craig Hollis.
Craig Hollis’ Immortality Surpasses Every Other Character in the MCU
Created by John Byrne and renowned as Mister Immortal, Craig Hollis is one of the most powerful characters in the entire Marvel Comics universe.

Benedict Cumberbatch has played many iconic characters in his career. Be it his breakthrough role of playing Sherlock Holmes in BBC’s Sherlock or voicing Smaug in The Hobbit franchise, Cumberbatch has brought his absolute best to each role. He has been playing the role of Doctor Strange in the MCU since 2016 and has been featured as the character in multiple films.
However, the Sorcerer Supreme was not the first role that he was offered in the Marvel franchise. While Strange met the Asgardian brothers Thor and Loki in Thor: Ragnarok, Cumberbatch would have met them even earlier had he accepted the initial part offered to him by the studio. However, he chose to wait it out instead.

What the new generation might have missed about Anthony Hopkins is that before he charmed all the audiences as the MCU’s Odin, he was already stealing the show with his incredible performances, even scoring a couple of Oscars. But here’s the twist, while he’s over the moon about snagging those shiny Academy Awards, what really gets under his skin is what happens next. It’s not that he’s got beef with the award itself. It’s the whole glitz and glamor and the ceremony itself that just rubs him the wrong way.

God of War: Ragnarok is an incredibly well-made game. Its story surely leaves fans desiring more, but its gameplay, level design, visuals, and music make up for it. Something that brings this game to the top, though, is its characters and the actors playing them. From Kratos to Odin, every character in God of War is played with excellence.
The evidence lies in the fact that Christopher Judge, the incredible actor behind God of War, himself won the Best Actor award during the Game Awards ceremony. What’s even better is that he got this award from none other than Al Pacino. But it looks like he wasn’t always open about working on such a project before.

Taika Waititi has undoubtedly carved a prominent niche for himself within the expansive universe of the MCU, primarily through his directorial contributions to the last two Thor films. Nevertheless, it is widely acknowledged that amidst his creative endeavors, a critical aspect remains unfulfilled.
Waititi, while helming Thor 4, not only perpetuated his directorial prowess but also, regrettably, veered away from a pivotal narrative arc present in the original Marvel Comics.
Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder
At the heart of this divergence lies the absence of the original Gorr storyline, which in the comics intricately interwoven the narratives of three distinct Thors. This deviation starkly contrasts with the source material and subsequently hampers the potential greatness of Thor: Love and Thunder.
Many fervent enthusiasts argue that if Waititi embraced the essence of the original narrative, the cinematic rendition could have soared to unprecedented heights.

What exactly are Thor's powers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? His actual threshold of strength and durability is tested several times throughout the MCU, but they fluctuate wildly. In one film, Thor (Christ Hemsworth) has trouble besting Captain America (Chris Evans) in hand-to-hand combat, but in another, he can seemingly withstand the heat of a solar flare. In one film, his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) states explicitly that they aren't gods, but in "Thor: Love and Thunder," Thor travels to Mount Olympus to converse with other deities, proving that he is indeed a god.
Perhaps Thor's powers need to fluctuate and remain unclear for dramatic reasons. If you have a literal god on your superhero team, why do you need other members at all? One might think that Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, would be able to slam his hammer into the face of any alien attacker and...

Marvel's "What If..." has employed a mix of reprisals and recasts from the movies. Captain Peggy Carter may have the super soldier serum, and Strange Supreme went down a darker path, but they're still played by Hayley Atwell and Benedict Cumberbatch like the originals. Hela Found the Ten Rings?" The episode splits the difference on recasting: Wenwu is voiced by Feodor Chin,...

Before we saw Taika Waititi blasting color and humor into the mythological realm of Asgard, the God of Thunder and his cohorts were traversing the early MCU in a much more regal and almost Shakespearian outing in 2011’s Thor.
In 2008, Hollywood was shaken wide awake by the introduction of Iron Man and the MCU at large. Following the success of Iron Man, we were treated to the forgotten but noteworthy Incredible Hulk film starring Edward Norton, and even an impressive direct sequel to Iron Man in 2010 that proved the MCU was onto something with their new expanded and interconnected universe. From the teases littered throughout the first three MCU movies, it was clear to audiences that Kevin Feige and the folks at Marvel were working hard to develop much more than a couple of live-action summer romps. And with Iron Man and the Hulk being introduced, it was time for...

What If? Season 2, episode 7, is all about Hela’s transformation of character. Hela was the firstborn of Odin and the mightiest warrior on Asgard. Together with her father, Hela conquered the nine realms, which further increased her greed for power. In this episode, we caught glimpses of some of the films, like Thor: Part 1, Thor: Ragnarok, and Shang Chi. Just like in Thor: Part 1, where Odin had sent Thor to Midgard, in this episode of What If? Hela was sent to Earth by Odin after her greed for violence and bloodshed escalated.

This isn’t the first time Noah Hawley’s show has trespassed into a realm that isn’t too keen on keeping a healthy, amicable relationship with beings of flesh and blood. But this may just be the first time that Fargo is truly terrifying. We’re done with the chucklesome flying saucers and antagonists who seem practically otherworldly. Frankly, none of that had the air of menace that surrounds the main villain of this season—Ole Munch—holding us hostage in the limbo where we’re unsure as to what it is we’re dealing with here. The bloodcurdling fear that Hawley associates with the otherwise much-played-out theme of debt is what keeps the air heavy in the third episode of Fargo season 5. God might’ve checked out already. Who saves Dot and the people after her?

Marvel Studios just admitted to one continuity mistake about Chris Hemsworth's Thor in Avengers: Infinity War.
The moment takes place not too long after the God of Thunder crosses over with the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time. During one of their many exchanges, Thor tells Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon that he’s “1500 years old.”
While this seemed like concrete information on Thor’s age, it’s caused fans to scratch their heads for years now. If he is 1500 years old, then why were both he and Loki only children in the first Thor when Odin was recounting the Battle of Tønsberg in 965 Ad?

This post contains spoilers for Loki season 2
Considering the massive mess she made at the end of season one, Sylvie is largely absent from the first episode of Loki‘s second season. Instead, the ep follows Loki and Mobius M. Mobius as they try to clean up that mess, including the the increased threat of He Who Remains aka Kang the Conqueror aka… well, lots of other also knowns as.
Sylvie doesn’t completely skip out on the episode. The first episode follows the Mighty Marvel (Cinematic Universe) tradition of including a post-credit scene to mix up the plot. In the scene, we see Sylvie stride through a time door and into a golden field. “1982, Broxton, Oklahoma” reads the chyron below, an explanation rendered almost immediately unnecessary when Sylvie enters a McDonald’s (hail corporate synergy!) bathed in browns and yellows.
And what does Sylvie do with her newfound power to visit the past?...

Loki Season 2 kicks off the next chapter of Tom Hiddleston‘s Marvel God of Mischief, but it’s been quite a bit of time since he last graced our screens. Tom Hiddleston has portrayed Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade. The actor made his debut as the god of mischief in 2011's "Thor." Since then, he's reprised his role in various Marvel projects, including "The Avengers," which features Loki as the film's main villain. Currently, Hiddleston is playing Loki in his own Disney+ series. "Loki" has been a major success since its premiere in June 2021. In fact, it's the only original MCU series on the platform to get a second season.
As the MCU dives further into Phase 5, Loki continues to play a central part in the franchise. If you're a big fan of the god of mischief, you may be curious to know more about his origins. While Loki is based on the character of the same name from the Marvel comics, he was initially inspired by Norse mythology. Of course, Marvel's version of Loki differs from the Norse deity,...

The animated streaming series ‘What If…?’ is one of the most unique and most interesting MCU projects. Not only because of the fact that it was the first animated piece of MCU content but also because everything that happens in this series is non-canonical events that show what would happen if some key moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe had played out differently.
The series’s first season featured nine episodes, some of which were amazing and some were… not. The series features the voice talent of Jeffrey Wright as the Watcher, and various MCU actors have returned to voice their respective characters, with a few exceptions, where new actors were hired to replace actors from live action.
The first season dealt with many key events from the Infinity Saga, and the second one will continue to do so, but it will also dip fingers into the ongoing Multiverse Saga.

The first season of Marvel Studios' "Loki" expanded the Marvel Cinematic Universe into a full-on multiverse. Picking up after the events of "Avengers: Endgame," the series places the trickster god (Tom Hiddleston) on a new mission with the Time Variance Authority to preserve the timeline. In addition to introducing the concept of an MCU multiverse, "Loki" also introduces the McU's current primary antagonist, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). The show returns for its second season on Disney+ on October 6, as Loki explores the fallout from the actions of his alternate timeline variant Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino).

Ragnarok is a Norwegian Netflix series that blends Norse mythology with a coming-of-age drama. The narrative opens in the town of Edda, where a teenager named Magne discovers that he is the reincarnation of the Nordic god Thor. As he becomes aware of his supernatural abilities, he embraces his extraordinary power to prevent the impending catastrophe of Ragnarok, the mythological apocalypse. Alongside the forces of good, the series introduces us to the Jutuls, a family who outwardly appear as humans but are actually the reincarnations of ancient giants, or the Jotnar.
In the initial two seasons of Netflix’s Ragnarok, which aired in 2020 and the subsequent year, we saw Magne explore his supernatural capabilities. He was even able to create the most powerful weapon, Mjolnir. Simultaneously, his younger brother Laurits turned out to be the reincarnation of Loki, the God of Mischief. While most Final Fantasy games take place in their own worlds, the franchise is still linked together through several iconic factors such as Chocobos, elemental crystals, and powerful summons. The series established many of those tropes early on but not all at once. Summons, for instance, weren’t added until Final Fantasy III. But unlike some of the other iconic Final Fantasy features, summons weren’t necessarily intended to be a major part of the franchise.
Several days ago, Square Enix held an interview with the major figures behind Final Fantasy: Hironobu Sakeguchi, Kazuko Shibuya, and Yoshinori Kitase. This meeting was meant to celebrate Final Fantasy’s 35th anniversary (and Sakeguchi’s 60th birthday) and focused mainly on the series’ origins. Subjects included where the name “Final Fantasy” came from and how the team came up with the idea for summons. If you’re expecting an origin story as...

Sigur Rós have unveiled “Blóðberg,” the Icelandic group’s first new, original song in nearly a decade. It also marks the band’s first recording since the return of multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson in 2022.
The seven-minute production takes its time to assemble as mournful strings build to lush, rippling orchestral sweeps, while frontman Jónsi Birgisson’s divine vocals ascend to the most heart-wrenching of high registers. The staggering weight of the new single is matched in kind by its devastating music video, directed by Johan Renck. Watch it below.

Zack Snyder has been a busy boy since his guardianship of the DC movie universe came to an end following principal photography on "Justice League." Though he eventually returned to finish his version of that film, the multi-hyphenate filmmaker has since settled in firmly at Netflix and is focusing on original stories rather than pre-existing franchises. Among these projects is "Twilight of the Gods," a 2D animated action series based on Norse mythology.
The project marks another return to Snyder's filmmaking roots. He made his feature directorial debut in 2004 with the very well-received remake of George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead," and his first project for Netflix was the Las Vegas-set undead action horror "Army of the Dead." Snyder's second feature-length film debuted back in 2006 and secured his status as a rising talent to watch: the epic historical war movie "300," inspired by the legendary Battle of Thermopylae. "Avengers: Infinity War" is arguably the biggest achievement of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is a movie that brings together a decade's worth of plots and characters in an epic conclusion to the saga that perhaps should have been the end of the MCU for a while. Despite all the great character meetings, the big reveals, the emotional beats, and the cool fights, the film feels incomplete. This is mostly because "Infinity War" is half a story, with "Endgame" providing an actual conclusion to the storyline — and some character deaths too.
It turns out, even if these movies are already rather long, we almost got an even longer movie that offered some insight to unanswered questions from the movie, like how the hell Thanos got the power stone before the start of "Infinity War."
Speaking with Near Mint Condition, comics legend and Thanos creator Jim Starlin revealed there is a...

We had to get one more episode with Detective Whiting, right?
The recurring guest-star farewell tour continued on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 14 Episode 15.
It was the consistently abrasive Whiting this time out. And for once, Whiting asked for Deeks' help, not the other way around.
Whiting's surprise appearance at the Deeks/Blye residence saved Rosa from an endless round of good parent/bad parent as she prepared to go out on "not a date."
We had to get this obligatory scene of the new parents interrogating their teen daughter while attempting to do so with a light touch.
Kensi and Deeks don't want to be "those parents," but really, did they have a choice?
Whiting's late-night arrival may have saved Rosa from her parents' questioning, but it caused her non-date to be canceled, apparently with no explanation. Not cool!
Whiting's reputation almost got this case derailed before it ever started.

Angela Bassett has said she is “sorry for” Anthony Hopkins after he spoke negatively of his time acting within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Specifically, Hopkins had criticised the experience of acting in front of a green screen, and once wrote “No acting required” on the front of his script for Thor.
The Remains of the Day star portrayed Thor’s father Odin in three films throughout the MCU: 2011’s Thor, 2013’s Thor: The Dark World and 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.
Speaking to The New Yorker in 2021, Hopkins explained:“On Thor, you have Chris Hemsworth – who looks like Thor – and a director like Kenneth Branagh, who is so certain of what he wants.
