Writers — they're just like us! If you thought we fans were the only ones getting all caught up in our feelings while watching these larger-than-life stories on such an unimaginably wide canvas, think again. "The Lord of the Rings" has always boasted a sincere streak that tugs right at the heartstrings of its fans, revealing author J.R.R. Tolkien as something of a softie when it comes to fantastical adventures, the power of friendship, and the nostalgic comforts of home. The symbolic representation of these ideas have traditionally come courtesy of the hobbits, the home-loving little folk with big feet and even bigger hearts. Frodo, Sam, Bilbo, and all the rest may be completely different characters, but they all share many of the same qualities that make them so easy to root for and identify with.
Perhaps much of the success surrounding "The Rings of Power" can be traced back to...

Endings: they're tough! Ask plenty of "Lord of the Rings" fans and they'll say that "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" had a perfect conclusion. But whenever I hear that, I think, "Which one?!" The film trilogy famously didn't seem to know how to say goodbye to the characters we'd grown to love so much, so it tacked on not one or two but at least four endings, if not more. The emotions of that trilogy's ending hit like waves, crashing into you one after another. This week's finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," on the other hand, kept its most emotional moment short and sweet – but it still hit like a tidal wave.
There were plenty of moments to love in "Alloyed," from the tricky, trippy, memory-hopping scenes between Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Sauron (Charlie Vickers) to the cheer-worthy moment when...

(Warning: Spoilers follow for the season 1 finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.")
The season finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" proved that, even in its darkest moments, the series will look to the light for hope. This is especially true when it comes to the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) and the harfoots. Although a chunk of the story is relegated to finding out his true identity, the finale focuses on the friendship between the wizard and the halflings. As the Stranger chooses to be good in a world dictating he is evil, we see his harfoot friends fight at his side to keep it that way. But how do the halflings decide to help their (very) powerful friend? Well, by throwing rocks at the villains, of course.
Not only is the moment in question a great act of bravery by the harfoots,...

And these actors are doing their jobs well — all laughs here, no spoilers (no matter how hard we tried to get them)! The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power finale trailer was debuted at New York Comic-Con 2022 on October 7, and the cast stopped by TV Insider and TV Guide Magazine’s Nycc suite to dish on the revealing trailer and the season at large. In the video interview, above, Charles Edwards (Celebrimbor), Sara Zwangobani (Marigold “Goldie” Brandyfoot), Nazanin Boniadi (Bronwyn), and Leon Wadham (Kemen) tell Andrea Towers what it’s like to finally be able to talk about show details, the delight of seeing fan reactions, theories, and cosplays, and what to expect from The Rings of Power finale next week. To no one’s surprise, the details they could share about the finale are few. In fact, there’s barely any footage from the finale in the trailer itself — it’s mostly made up of epic moments from Episodes 1-7. But what Prime Video did share is rather exciting for book fans.

Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power blasted off its PR tour at San Diego Comic-Con and it’s winding it down at New York Comic-Con with the streamer dropping a season one finale trailer, that episode dropping on Friday, Oct. 14 at 12 am Edt. A majority of the trailer has footage from the first seven episodes.
Coming away from an episode 7, “The Eye”, which finds the Queen-Regent Míriel blinded, and the Southlands getting erased off the map and renamed Mordor as the orcs settle into their new homeland. Also in Ep. 7, King Durin III steps in between the bromance of Elrond and Durin, given his distrust of elves, declaring that elves won’t be helping the dwarves out with any resources. A week before the “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” concludes its inaugural season, Amazon Prime Video debuted a fiery new trailer for the season finale that promises “all will be revealed.”
The trailer — which first screened at New York Comic-Con on Friday, as part of Prime Video’s panel for “The Rings of Power” — was light on new footage from the finale, save for a telling glimpse at what appears to be Celebrimbor’s forge, where the titular Rings of Power will eventually be created. Otherwise, the trailer recaps many of the biggest developments through the first season, while promising that while Mordor is rising, at lease some heroes “will fall” — and Sauron’s true identity will finally be revealed.
New York Comic-Con attendees got to see much more of the season finale. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, currently supervising production on Season 2 of “The Rings of Power” from London,...

It’s official: Amazon’s The Rings of Power has started filming its next season.
Production got underway on Monday at the new hub at Bray Studios just outside London.
The news follows the first official Nielsen ratings being released Thursday for the Prime Video series, showing The Rings of Power topped the streaming charts for its debut week with 1.3 billion minutes viewed (likely an Amazon series record given that only two hours were released).
The first season of the show was filmed in New Zealand over an epic stretch of 18 months during the pandemic. For season 2, which will consist of eight episodes, Amazon switched the show’s production to the U.K., which is considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub.
The Rings of Power is approaching its seventh and penultimate episode of its debut season this week.

Elon Musk has criticized Amazon Prime Video’s billion-dollar fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, tweeting that late author J.R.R. Tolkien is “turning in his grave.”
Expanding on why he didn’t like the show, Musk tweeted that “almost every male character so far is a coward, a jerk or both,” adding that “only Galadriel is brave, smart and nice.” Galadriel, played by Welsh actress Morfydd Clark, is a warrior elf and the lead of the series that is set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
Worthy of note, Musk has a long-running feud and rivalry with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, a rivalry that has intensified as Musk’s SpaceX and Bezos’ Blue Origin compete directly. The enmity between the world’s two richest people has seen the Tesla CEO...

The excitement leading into The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was off the charts.
The highly-anticipated series, which is reportedly the most expensive TV show in history, got off the ground running with 25 million viewers in its first day.
Deadline reported the news, revealing that those numbers make it the best and biggest premiere in Prime Video's 15-year history.
“It is somehow fitting that Tolkien’s stories – among the most popular of all time, and what many consider to be the true origin of the fantasy genre – have led us to this proud moment,” said Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke today.
“I am so grateful to the Tolkien Estate – and to our showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, cast and crew – for their tireless collaborative efforts and boundless creative energy."

For a time, it seemed as though a great shadow had passed over the world, and then faded — still present, though not quite as ominous. There were those who could confidently believe they were seeing progress. A fantasy? Perhaps. But not one without value. Yet, there were those who sought the cover of that shadow to hide from their own insecurities, failings, uselessness. They could not conceive of the endless potential of progress. Miserable little trolls left stewing in their own ugly ignorance and hatred, who sought regression, but proved too incompetent to succeed, even when emboldened by the lies from their weakened leader.
I could very easily be discussing Middle-earth, but I’m not. What I’m discussing is our very real world, and social media as an extension of that world. For the past week, I’ve been bombarded with messages of hate,...

The first two episodes of “The Rings of Power” have finally premiered on Prime Video, kicking off season 1 of the prequel series about the Second Age of Middle-earth about a time set several thousand years before the events of “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”.
During this era of peace and prosperity, there are subtle signs of re-emerging evil as many characters’ lives come crashing together. Among them are the lumbering giant (Daniel Weyman), who crash lands on Middle-earth via a meteor, and the Harfoot, Elanor ‘Nori’ Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh), who discovers him.
Now that the first two episodes are streaming, both Weyman and Kavenagh address the many theories about the stranger’s true identify, including a popular one that he’s Gandalf, the wise and powerful wizard originally played by Sir Ian McKellen in Peter Jackson’s film adaptations of the novels. [Warning: Spoilers for the first two episodes of “The Rings of Power”.]

The magic of the elves bestows gifts upon you, mortal. Prime Video has released the first two episodes of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," earlier than expected. Though the release date is listed as Friday, September 2, 2022 (the anniversary of the passing of author J.R.R. Tolkien), Prime Video often drops their newest offerings a little early. We lucky fans are getting a bit of a speed boost in our journey to Middle-earth.
The series is set in the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies, though we'll see some familiar characters like Galadriel and Elrond. This is so long ago that the Hobbits as we know them aren't in existence yet. Instead, we'll see their predecessors, the proto-Hobbits.

This is so long ago that the Hobbits as we know them aren't in existence yet. Instead, we'll see their predecessors, the proto-Hobbits.

To celebrate the hugely-anticipated release of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which finally arrives on Amazon Prime Video this week, we had the pleasure of sitting down with its huge ensemble cast and showrunners to find out more.
Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Tolkien lore to what fans can expect when the series drops on Thursday, September 1. Each cast member did their own level of research for their roles, but like Walker, who plays the dedicated king of the elves, they all take Tolkien’s world very seriously. “Even if it’...

Anyone who's ever read J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved children's book "The Hobbit" knows just how big a role the author's diminutive, large-footed species has played in Middle-earth events. Frodo, Sam, Bilbo, and all the rest more than earned their places in the (fictional) history books with incredible feats and relentless determination in the face of grave danger, inspiring countless readers -- and eventually viewers, as well, many of whom fell in love with them thanks to Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" film trilogies.
Amazon's upcoming "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" series takes place thousands of years before the events of those stories, and portrays the distant ancestors of those pint-sized heroes through the beings known as Harfoots. This new story occupies an interesting niche, releasing nearly 20 years after the original trilogy came to an epic close with "The Return of the King.

Prime Video wants all eyes on its highly-anticipated Lord of the Rings prequel, The Rings of Power.
The promotional train has been in overdrive for months, and now, we have an exciting new trailer.
The series is set thousands of years before any of the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings movies, so there's a great deal of skepticism about whether the story will be a worthy entry to the universe.
Galadriel takes center stage in the latest clip, showcasing battles, breathtaking locations, and a lot of drama.
Knowing very little about the story, the trailer is certainly a spectacle of what should be a lot of fun.
Prime Video has invested heavily in this universe, so they will want the series to land well with fans of the franchise.
We don't have long to wait, since the series premiere is set for September 2 around the world.

Fantasy fever is hitting the globe. While "House of the Dragon" recently jumped out to a rip-roaring start, its reign as the biggest and most dominant series of its genre in this volatile and hard-to-predict streaming age will prove to be relatively short-lived. In just a few short weeks, a major challenger will emerge for its share of attention and eyeballs. Who will win? Well, nerds, of course!
"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" comes with years of hype and anticipation, not to mention all sorts of pressure from passionate fans (including the creators themselves!) to get it right. Adapting the writings of groundbreaking author J.R.R. Tolkien is never to be taken lightly, even if that source material mostly comes from an assortment of notes and collections found in the appendices of "The Return of the King," as opposed to the actual "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy itself.

The showrunners of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power promise their fantasy drama for Prime Video will feature all new stories and is not “a reboot or a retread” of what J.R.R. Tolkien fans saw in the movies.
“This is a new story for most who are going to be watching it. We weren’t interested in a nostalgia play,” showrunner Patrick McKay said Friday at the TCA summer press tour. “We felt that this show had to earn its place on the start, rise or fall on its own merits. There are different stories that you’ve seen before.”
“This is before Frodo, before the rings, the time during which the rings of power were forged,” showrunner J.D. Payne added.
Premiering September 2, the series is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth — thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings films and novels.

‘Lotr: The Rings of Power’ Cast on Elrond & Durin Friendship, Harfoot Special Effects & More (Video)
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings some familiar faces to the screen, plus characters unseen in the Peter Jackson movies and ones created for the show. Elrond is a major player in the Prime Video series, premiering September 2, as is Prince Durin IV. Durin’s presence in the series means viewers get to see the city of Khazad-dûm (also known as Moria) in its former glory for the first time on screen. And Durin and Elrond will cross paths in Season 1, reuniting after many years apart. Elrond is played by Robert Aramayo and Owain Arthur plays Durin. The two actors were joined with co-stars Megan Richards, Sara Zwangobani, and Trystan Gravelle at the TV Insider and TV Guide Magazine studio, sponsored by Hollywood unBranded during San Diego Comic-Con 2022 and spoke with Emily Aslanian about the upcoming series. And Aramayo and Arthur said the Elrond and Durin dynamic will be captivating.

Amazon brought down Hall H this morning with its reported 1 billion series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, complete with an orchestra and operatic chorus led by composer Bear McCreary. Oh, and J.R.R. Tolkien devotee Stephen Colbert moderated the session. All of this sent the immediate message to Lotr fans just how high stakes this new adaptation is, and how serious Prime Video is about it.
Following Colbert’s intro, Amazon threw the curtain open on the three screens in Hall H and played a teaser showing the new world of Númenor to a rumbling sound and visual spectacle.

At long last, Sauron is here.
Prime Video dropped a brand new trailer for their upcoming (and wildly expensive) new series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Friday during the show’s Comic-Con panel in Hall H, and yes, this show will be tackling the original rise of Sauron.
The prequel series takes place during the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien’s expansive “Lord of the Rings” saga, thousands of years before the story of the “Fellowship of the Ring.” In that regard, it also charts the first time that Sauron rose to power.
We knew this, and yet previous trailers shied away from showing or even explicitly mentioning Sauron. That ends today. This new trailer pits him as the biggest, baddest boogeyman haunting Middle-Earth, and even shows the forging of his iconic sword. It’s the most explicit reference to Peter Jackson’s iconic film trilogy yet,...

Prime Video on Thursday offered an extended look at the epic drama series that takes place years before the movies.

“You have not seen what I have seen,” she warns, but Elrond thinks very differently to her.
“You have not seen what I have seen,” she warns, paving the way for the scenes to come.
There are plenty of establishing shots to really reiterate that Prime Video spared no expense in bringing this universe to life as a TV series.

If we’ve gleaned anything from the newest The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power trailer, which dropped on Thursday, it’s that you should probably listen to Galadriel instead of insisting that she pack it up and retire.
“The enemy is still out there. The question is, where?” she says to Elrond in the above sneak peek. When the ruler of Rivendell assures her that the threat is gone so she should stop fighting, Galadriel pushes back.

Ahead of the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con next week, Amazon Prime Video has unveiled a brand new trailer for the upcoming series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” — and this show looks huge.
“There was a time when the world was so young,” the narration over the new trailer begins, alluding to the fact that this series takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings.” The narration continues as a familiar theme from Howard Shore’s score from the “Lotr” films plays: “There had not yet been a sunrise, but even then there was light.”
But then we see snippets of some jaw-dropping battles, until we hit upon Galadriel – played in Peter Jackson’s acclaimed film trilogy by Cate Blanchett and played in this new series by Morfydd Clark – who has clearly been worn by battle.
