Jason Aldean’s track “Try That in a Small Town” is doing well despite the controversy surrounding it.
The singer has hit No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, People reported.
Billboard stated the song had the largest week of sales for a country track in more than 10 years despite the ongoing backlash. The track — which was released in May — previously spent one week at No. 35 in June.
It’s also the first song to re-enter the country charts at No. 1 since 2015, with it being the second song in history to re-enter at the top spot.

Jason Aldean’s controversial song “Try That in a Small Town” is pulling in big numbers.
Luminate, which tracks music sales and streams, says the song’s on-demand audio and video streams have increased by 999 percent — from 987,000 to 11.7 million — in the week after the chatter about the song exploded online.
Sales for the song are up as well: For the week before the controversy, the track only sold 1,000 units; last week it sold 228,000 units, according to Luminate.
CMT pulled the song’s music video from its rotation last Tuesday, when the clip only had roughly 350,000 views on YouTube. Now, it’s been viewed 16.6 million times.
The success has helped the song debut at No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 1 on the hot country songs chart. It marks Aldean’s highest-charting single on the Hot 100 and beats out songs like Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night,” Luke Combs’ cover...

Jason Aldean is speaking out about the backlash over the music video for his song “Try That in a Small Town.”
Addressing concertgoers during the Cincinnati leg of his Highway Desperado Tour Friday, Aldean maintained that despite the dialogue surrounding the song and the labels affixed to him amid the controversy, what he is, is a proud American.
“It’s been a long week and I’ve seen a lot of stuff suggesting I’m this, suggesting I’m that,” The country crooner said in the fan-captured video. “Here’s one thing I feel. I feel like everybody’s entitled to their opinion. You can think something all you want to, doesn’t mean it’s true, right?”
He continued, “What I am, is a proud American. I’m proud to be from here. I love our country. I want to see it restored to what it once was before...

“The View” hosts are the latest to speak out about Jason Aldean’s controversial song “Try That in a Small Town”.
Whoopi Goldberg criticized the singer’s lyrics and use of imagery in the music video.
The vid is interlaced with clips of protestors vandalizing cities in the wake of police brutality and racial unrest during the height of the pandemic.
“He talks about life in a small town, and it’s different, and he chose these images,” Goldberg insisted.
“He’s got folks from the Black Lives Matter movement, and he’s talking about people taking care of each other, and I find it so interesting that it never occurred to Jason or the writers that that’s what these folks were doing: They were taking care of the people in their town because they didn’t like what they saw.”

Blanco Brown spoke out against accusations of racism levelled at fellow country singer Jason Aldean.
Amid the backlash against Aldean over the music video for his song “Try That in a Small Town,” Brown took to Twitter on Thursday to defend the musician.
Brown wrote, in a since-deleted tweet, that “Aldeans [streams] Are Gonna Go Through The Roof” due to the uproar over the video, which many have accused of promoting racism and racial violence.
“I hate the words to that song but I don’t believe he’s a racist,” Brown wrote. “[He was] one of the first to check on me in my time of need! Just bad song writing.”
Brown was likely referring to his near-fatal motorcycle accident in August 2022 that left him hospitalized and required emergency surgery and treatment. It’s unclear at the time what prompted Brown to delete the tweet sharing his support for the singer.

Dynamic mother-daughter and best friend duo Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) return in “Ginny & Georgia” Season 2, which gets even more chaotic than the already very complex first season of the Netflix show. Another of Georgia’s past loves enters the mix, she commits some more questionable actions and many other twists and turns develop within the 10 hour-long episodes.
Ginny and her friends are no strangers to the TikTok scene, so some song choices reflect Gen Z’s poppy preferences. The show is also not afraid to explore both the high, happy feelings of life as well as the deeper, darker, lower ones, and it does so sonically with some beautiful choices. Felix Mallard chose a song for an important scene of his, and actress Brianne Howey easily chose a song to embody her character Georgia.

It’s a tale as old as time: Bigger isn’t necessarily better. After two years of graceful, measured, and intimate pandemic-era awards shows in Nashville, the Academy of Country Music Awards returned to their usual home of Las Vegas and doubled down on the huge, choosing the cavernous Allegiant Stadium to stage country music’s first streaming-only awards show on Prime Video.
Unfortunately, the result was a show that both looked and felt empty.
Longtime viewers of the ACM Awards might recall that for the milestone 50th anniversary in...

So what’s the shelf life of consequences? Well, Morgan Wallen just won the ACM Award for Album of the Year for “Dangerous” to enthusiastic applause (while Black artists were shut out), so while your mileage may vary, it looks like getting caught on video using a racial slur will land you in the doghouse for a few months. During that time you’ll have to suffer the indignity of having the most commercially successful album of the year, for which you will then be awarded one of the industry’s most prestigious prizes. Cancel culture is out of control!
Wallen released “Dangerous” in January of 2021 just as news broke of him using the N-word, but while he was suspended from his record label and pulled from country radio for a little while, “Dangerous” ended up spending 10 weeks at number-one, and it has since become the country album with the...

The Academy of Country Music Awards are holding their 57th annual event tonight, March 7. These annual awards celebrate the best in the country music industry from the past year (check out the list of nominees) in addition to featuring multiple performances by the genre’s biggest names. But how can you watch the event?
If you’re looking for the show on TV, tonight, think again. The awards have aired on broadcast television for most of its run: on ABC from 1972 to 1978, on NBC from 1979 to 1997, and on CBS from 1998 to 2021. This time, however, the ACMs are trying something new. The live show will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime starting at 8:00pm Eastern/7:00pm Central/5:00pm Pacific. The two-hour event will be hosted by Dolly Parton along with co-hosts Jimmie Allen and Gabby Barrett, and it will take place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Parker McCollum and Lainey Wilson were named as, respectively, best new male artist and best new female artist in early honors announced by the Academy of Country Music in advance of Monday’s live ceremony from Las Vegas on Prime Video.
The Academy posted videos of both artists getting the news from country superstar Miranda Lambert. Wilson still has a shot at winning something next week, as well: She’s up for song of the year for her No. 1 country hit “Things a Man Oughta Know.” McCollum has also earned a No. 1 song of his own, “Pretty Heart,” although the 2020 hit preceded the eligibility period for this year’s awards.
Both artists will get a performance slot on the show, which is foregoing a network broadcast component and will stream exclusively from Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium at 8 p.m. Et/5 Pt.

Robert Redford and Bruce Springsteen are teaming up for the documentary, “The Mustangs: America’s Wild Horses,” Variety has learned.
“The Mustangs: America’s Wild Horses” tells the story about America’s wild horses from their turbulent history to their uncertain future. The feature-length documentary takes audiences on an odyssey throughout America to places that few people have seen, with more than 80,000 wild horses on public lands and more than 50,000 in government corrals.
The film, which has been acquired by Virgil Films, will be released theatrically on Oct. 15, then followed by a Tvod release.
Redford is an executive producer, and Springsteen contributes to the film’s soundtrack, which also features music from Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris, and the original song “Never Gonna Tame You,” performed by Blanco Brown and written by 12-time Oscar-nominated songwriter Diane Warren, who also serves as a co-producer on the film. Cinematography is by Brian Pratt.

The producers of the 2021 CMT Music Awards were clearly paying attention. After a year-plus national conversation about equity, diversity, and, yes, racism, Wednesday night’s CMT Awards made a clear attempt to be inclusive, devoting airtime to artists and personalities of color.
Instead of putting all of their effort into one token set piece or presentation, the show highlighted a diverse group of black voices throughout the broadcast. There was the superb black vocal group the Shindellas opening the awards with Lady A. There was Blanco Brown playing the spoons into a commercial break.

The CMT Awards differ from other country music events in that they’re decided strictly by fans voting online, unlike the CMA and ACM Awards, which are handed out by industry peers. And we’re betting that fans will be kinder to Carrie Underwood than those other awards often are. She rarely wins Entertainer of the Year at those events (and often isn’t even nominated), but she has won the top prize here more than anyone else, claiming Video of the Year eight times.

Old Dominion have released their first new music since 2019. The breezy new single “I Was on a Boat That Day,” out Friday, is the ACM-winning group’s lead offering from an upcoming project.
With its appropriately buoyant rhythm and hum-along melodies underpinned by accordion, “I Was on a Boat That Day” nearly masks the fact that it’s a breakup song. “I remember it like yesterday, ‘cause it was,” frontman Matthew Ramsey sings at the top. He pushes off from the dock and floats while she’s back home packing up to leave.

For the second time in just seven months, the Academy of Country Music handed out its annual awards. After the 2020 ACM Awards were delayed from April to September because of the pandemic, the organization moved the show from Las Vegas to Nashville for the first time in its history. And if those ACMs made a point of being transparent in their approach to Covid safety, this year’s show did the same in the way it addressed country music’s inclusivity problem.

Jennifer Nettles is set to receive the first honorary Equal Play Awards from the CMT Music Awards for her outspokenness and advocacy for women in country music, the network is revealing today.
