Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga will star in Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends at Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles before landing on Broadway next March.
The musical revue of Sondheim’s songs, devised by Cameron Mackintosh, comes to North America after a 16-week run starting last September at London’s Gielgud Theatre. Peters and Salonga also starred in that run.
The show, with musical staging and choreography Matthew Bourne and Julia McKenzie, begins previews on Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on March 25, 2025. Exact dates for performances at the Center Theatre Group have yet to be announced.
Sondheim came up with the idea of doing a third revue during lockdown, according to Mackintosh. Work began on the show, but Sondheim died in November 2021. Mackintosh and McKenzie continued work on the revue in order to make it a “farewell show” to celebrate Sondheim’s work.

With the benefit of hindsight, it’s easy to identify moments that precipitated significant social or cultural changes. But that doesn’t mean that the people involved in those moments knew, or were actively working to achieve them, as they were happening.
“Carol Doda Topless at The Condor,” which charts the explosion of topless (and eventually all-nude) clubs across the U.S. after the documentary’s namesake decided to go-go dance in a breast-exposing monokini in June 1964, occasionally makes the mistake of conflating intent with her decision’s revolutionary impact. Even so, co-directors Marlo McKenzie and Jonathan Parker offer an absolute treasure trove of vintage film footage shot in, around and about San Francisco’s North Beach as they chronicle the parallel lines of her career and the cultural sea change that it precipitated.
Against the backdrop of the tumultuous 1960s, Doda became a lightning rod for controversy when her...

It’s funny to think that the birth of our country’s strip clubs traces back to a total drip like Barry Goldwater, but that conservative also-ran was in San Francisco to accept the Republican Party’s nomination for president when — on the night of June 19, 1964 — a lounge singer by the name of Carol Doda decided to show the city what she thought about his “traditional American values.”
Okay, technically it was PR maven Davey Rosenberg who had the idea for Doda to descend from the ceiling of the Condor Club in a monokini with her nipples on full display, and the fact that Goldwater was in town for the RNC was more of a coincidence than anything else, but those pesky facts didn’t stop Doda from stealing the Republicans’ thunder and becoming a political icon all her own. Goldwater’s sons even came to see Doda’s show...

“Across various timelines and locations, four characters weave a web of stories that explore human resilience in the face of environmental upheaval,” according to a statement.

Eileen Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Thomasin McKenzie, Shea Whigham, Marin Ireland, Owen Teague, Anne Hathaway
Director: William Oldroyd
Review of Eileen Is Out! (Picture Credit: Youtube)
What’s Good: Thomasin McKenzie’s portrayal of Eileen is refreshing, devoid of traditional expectations, while Anne Hathaway captivates with her artificial yet electric depiction of Rebecca. Marin Ireland’s exceptional performance adds authentic trauma, and the film’s cold, desolate portrayal of women resonates.
What’s Bad: The narrative loses its initial psychological complexity, devolving into a thinly developed crime plot. The film needs to work on the balance between psychosexual strangeness and a more conventional storyline, leaving the audience uncertain about its direction.
Loo Break: “‘Eileen” offers a brief pause around the 45-minute mark when Eileen enters Rebecca’s office. Feel free to take a break but return promptly for the unfolding narrative.
Watch or Not?: “Eileen” is a film...

This article contains spoilers for Echo episodes 1, 2, and 3.
The best fight scenes invite combatants to use their environment in novel, creative ways. In other words: if a fight gives you lemons, make lemonade. In the case of the skate rink brawl in episode 3 of Marvel series Echo: if a fight gives you an arcade game shooter, tear off its plastic guns and use the connecting cables as freaking Whips.
Indeed that’s exactly what our antihero Maya Lopez a.k.a. Echo (Alaqua Cox) does to some Kingpin goons in the thrilling third episode of Echo. It turns out that the moment developed as organically behind the scenes as it did in the midst of Maya’s rumble.
“I had an idea and [that moment] just came together so beautifully,” episode 3 director Catriona McKenzie tells Den of Geek. “Here’s a native woman who is interfacing with a shoot-em-up Western game.”

Dig your business socks out from the back of your dresser drawer because it might be business time before you know it! Rhys Darby recently spoke with Deadline at the Creative Arts Emmys and informed the outlet that a Flight of the Conchords reunion could be on the horizon. Flight of the Conchords is a comedic musical duo out of New Zealand featuring Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie. Flight of the Conchords is also the name of the band’s HBO series that launched in 2007 and ran for two seasons before getting canceled. Darby plays the band’s manager, Murray Hewitt, in the show, and now there are rumblings of getting the band back together.
“We’re always discussing the sort of things we’d like to do in the future and looking back at the classic things we’ve done,” Darby told Deadline on Saturday. “There will come a time when the world really,...

New Delhi, July 23 (Ians) Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik heaped praise on Mukesh Kumar and said that the pacer’s debut is a great success story for the country’s domestic cricket.
The 29-year-old Mukesh earned his debut for Team India in the second Test of the ongoing series against West Indies in Port of Spain. On Day 3 of the second Test, he claimed his maiden Test wicket by removing fellow debutant West Indies’ Kirk McKenzie for 32, providing India with a crucial breakthrough.
“Mukesh Kumar, what a lovely story. Coming from a very humble background, a great success story for our domestic cricket. You ask anybody in the domestic circuit, they will tell you Mukesh Kumar is born for Test cricket,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

Port of Spain, July 23 (Ians) India debutant Mukesh Kumar won praise from bowling coach Paras Mhambrey after the right-arm pacer claimed his first Test wicket on a rain interrupted Day 3 of the second match against the West Indies, here on Saturday.
Mukesh claimed the wicket of fellow debutant Kirk McKenzie for 32 on a day that saw the West Indies show plenty of fight with the bat, as the hosts frustrated India to go to stumps at 229/5 and still trailing by 209 in the second match.
While veteran spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja did the bulk of the bowling on Saturday, Mukesh showed enough on debut through 14 overs to show he has a future in red-ball cricket as he got the wicket of McKenzie and then was entrusted to partner Mohammed Siraj with the second new ball later in the day.

Port of Spain, July 23 (Ians) Ravichandran Ashwin claimed the crucial wicket of West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (75) as the hosts reached 174/3 at tea on the third day of the second Test at Queen’s Park Oval here.
Jermaine Blackwood was batting on 16 with Alick Athanaze on 13 at the Tea break as West Indies still trailed India (438) by 264 runs.
After rain forced India and West Indies to take an early lunch, West Indies played at a sedate pace in the second session as they scored 57 runs in 34 overs that were possible in the afternoon session.
Braithwaite completed his half-century off 170 balls, hitting four boundaries as the West Indies continued to build their innings. The hosts reached 150 runs in the 69th over with Braithwaite batting on 67.

Port of Spain, July 22 (Ians) Rain forced India and West Indies to take an early lunch on Day Three of the second Test at the Queen’s Park Oval on Saturday, shortly after seamer Mukesh Kumar got his maiden Test wicket in fellow debutant Kirk McKenzie.
Rain meant that only 10.4 overs were bowled in the first session on Day Three, where West Indies added 31 runs before losing McKenzie on 32 off 57 balls. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite continues to remain unbeaten on 49 off 161 balls, as West Indies are trailing India by 321 runs.
The day began with Mukesh testing McKenzie with his accurate deliveries, followed by Mohammed Siraj slipping in one maiden over. McKenzie got going when he brought out the drive and loft against Jaydev Unadkat for back-to-back fours in the 44th over.
After bringing up West Indies’ hundred runs, McKenzie swivelled Unadkat for a handsome pull going for a boundary, followed by...

For a long time, Teen Dramas were my guilty pleasure. I wasn’t into the standard stuff like 90210 or Party of Five. No, I either hated those shows, or I just never saw them. My favorites were shows like My So-Called Life or Freaks and Geeks. I think it was because, much like the characters on the show, I fell in love with them. Like soap opera fans, I became invested in the character’s relationships. But, unlike previous shows, The O.C. was one of those rare shows that gave you just enough drama that it didn’t go into full-blown melodrama.
Okay, that’s a lie. It gave you A Lot of melodrama at times. But for some strange reason, the show felt sincere. While many of these teen dramas at the time felt like they were writing episodes for ratings, the O.C. just felt like they were telling good stories.

Thomasin McKenzie, the versatile star of “Last Night in Soho” and “Jojo Rabbit,” is already hoping for the second season of darkly comedic series “Totally Completely Fine,” which saw her transform once again.
This time, she morphs into twentysomething Vivian who inherits her grandfather’s cliffside house. The problem is, many strangers actually come there to end their lives. Suddenly, Vivian has to do something she isn’t quite used to doing: Help others.

Three years ago ABC News transformed its 1 p.m. Good Morning America spinoff into an hour dedicated to covering the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, GMA3: What You Need to Know.
The pandemic may have waned, but What You Need to Know is still going strong, and this week, ABC found its new team to lead the hour in DeMarco Morgan, Eva Pilgrim, and GMA3 veteran (and ABC News chief medical correspondent) Dr. Jennifer Ashton.
The trio effectively succeed T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach, who officially left the network earlier this year.

Barry Humphries, the Australian entertainer whose gladioli-waving alter ego Dame Edna charmed and roasted celebrities, all with a Cheshire grin, outrageous eyewear, a “Hello, Possums!” greeting and a flurry of caustic wit, died Saturday. He was 89.
Humphries died at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney of complications from hip surgery, his family announced.
“He was completely himself until the very end, never losing his brilliant mind, his unique wit and generosity of spirit,” they said. “With over 70 years on the stage, he was an entertainer to his core, touring up until the last year of his life and planning more shows that will sadly never be.”
He portrayed Dame Edna Everage — whom he called a “gauche, garrulous Melbourne housewife with a very shrill voice who was obsessed with interior decoration” — for more than six decades across cabarets, clubs, stage and screen as one of the world’s oldest continual comic creations.

But it’s this pre-global domination period, when Amazon was merely a glint in Bezos’ eye, that’s the focus of a new biopic being touted at the American Film Market.
Entitled Bezos: The Beginning and from Vision Films, the film is based on the book Zero to Hero and, according to director Khoa Le, looks to “tell a story about a person that works a 9-5 job, doesn’t have entrepreneurship experience, but has this idea of building something that was going to change the future.”
