Days of our Lives spoilers for next week’s episode of the hit Peacock soap tease May sweeps are over, but the drama is not.
New episodes written by head writer Ron Carlivati began airing today after months of episodes written during the writer’s strike last year playing out.
Ron promises that the new material and shows will be filled with twists and turns that will impact the rest of the year.
One of those twists will shake Chad (Billy Flynn) to his core, but considering that Clyde (James Read) is behind it, we know things won’t be as they seem.
Speaking of Clyde, putting the finishing touches on finding him remains at the forefront, as does wrapping up the baby switch storyline ahead of Arianne Zucker’s exit as Nicole Walker.
Let’s take a look at how those two things and more are playing out on Days next week.

The 2023 writer’s strike wreaked havoc on daytime and primetime scripted TV shows. Dool head writer Ron Carlivati promises more drama, more surprises and more romance once his scripts are airing amid the writer’s strike. Keep reading for more about what to expect.
Writer’s Strike Impact On TV
In May 2023, members of the Writers Guild of America went on strike. Many of the scripted shows for the spring TV season had already been written and filmed ahead of the season finales. However, daytime soap operas run year-round. As the strike dragged out, the networks brought in temporary writers, known as “scabs.”
After 148 days days, the strike finally ended in September 2023. While the writers were back in the writing room, many networks were forced to push back their primetime shows until January 2024 due to lack of scripts.
NBC’s Days of Our Lives was among the scripted shows affected by the strike.

Thanks to last year’s Writers Guild of America strike and Days of our Lives’ unique shooting schedule, head writer Ron Carlivati’s new material will only first begin airing on May 31. Unlike most soaps, which are filmed weeks ahead of the air date, the Peacock-airing drama is seven months ahead, so when Carlivati and his team resumed their official duties in October, the stories were already written well into 2024. “The other shows were able to put it behind them quicker,” begins Carlivati. “For me, as of us talking right now, the [replacement writers’ material] is still airing, so that has been very tough. I’m just very anxious and eager for our stuff to start airing again.” When the strike began in May 2023, Carlivati and his team had written through Thanksgiving. “I think some people think that I left some sort of road map that these people were following, and that is really not true,...

While it was announced in January that “General Hospital” had replaced co-head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor with new co-head writers Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahey, it looks like Van Etten at least is officially back in the writer’s room at the ABC daytime drama series.
During the Tuesday, May 14 episode, Van Etten’s name appeared in the credits for the first time since mid-March, this time as a breakdown writer.
Savvy fans had an inkling that Van Etten returned to the series when actress Alley Mills let the news slip during a video interview with journalist Michael Fairman in late April.
At the time, Mills was discussing her second consecutive Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series for her portrayal of Heather Webber on the series. She won her first-ever Emmy in December 2023 for her work.

Nominations for “The 76th Annual Writers Guild Awards” were announced on Wednesday, with “Days of our Lives” and “General Hospital” competing in the Daytime Drama category. Other shows receiving nominations in various categories include “The Crown,” “Abbott Elementary,” “The Last of Us” and “Succession.” Among films, “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” are looking to take home their respective trophies.
This year, “Days of our Lives” is competing against “General Hospital” after receiving a de facto win in 2023 due to no other show being nominated, and marking the show’s third consecutive win. Ron Carlivati leads the show’s writing team.
At “General Hospital,” outgoing writers Dan O’Connor and Chris Van Etten are receiving their final nominations as the show’s head writers. The two were let go in January after a shakeup behind the scenes.

General Hospital is getting a revamp behind the scenes.
It’s been a decade of the same on the ABC soap, with only a few minor changes to the writing and producing team.
Small increments didn’t seem to work for some of the long-time viewers, who have complained about the writing for some of the legacy characters and the rewriting of history to fit the narratives of their current favorites.
Soap Opera Digest broke the news about the head co-writers, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, being out at General Hospital.
The duo has worked together since 2019, but Chris has been in a co-writing position since 2017. He worked with Shelly Altman after her partner, Jean Passanante, retired. Dan joined Chris in 2019 when Shelly retired.

With the WGA strike officially over, the writers rooms are returning to normal in daytime.
Deadline has learned that union scribes are back in the room at ABC’s General Hospital and CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful. The soaps never stopped churning out scripts after the WGA hit the picket line in May. But instead of WGA writers, Gh, B&b and the others had to rely on financial core (fi-core) writers and other non-members to keep the drama going.
Fi-core scribes are those who resigned their WGA membership while benefiting from the guild’s contracts with the studios. Producers and executives also helped with the writing in some cases.
“The shows don’t stop,” Days of Our Lives head writer Ron Carlivati said in an interview from the picket lines earlier this summer. “They replaced us in 2007 when I worked at One Life to Live, and I can only...

The ongoing writers’ strike has now impacted Port Charles: Deadline has confirmed that temporary writers have been hired by General Hospital to keep the daytime drama in production.
News of the change went viral Tuesday after Shannon Peace, a Gh writer, posted to her private account on Instagram that “scab writers” are now penning for the soap exclusively. “Daytime writers face a unique conflict during strikes,” she wrote. “We hate to see our characters and storylines handed over to ‘writers’ who cross the picket line. But we’re also keenly aware that stopping production could spell the demise of soap operas.”
Her post was picked up on social media by actors like Bradley Whitford and Lisa Ann Walter, a longtime fan of daytime dramas who wanted to call out “scab writers putting the writers of these beloved soaps out of work.”
A spokeswoman for the ABC show declined comment.

The moment the WGA strike started at 12:01 a.m. on May 2, all late-night shows went dark. Many presume that the same is bound to happen with daytime dramas if SAG-AFTRA goes on strike July 1 (or later), as those series, similarly, are in continuous, year-round production.
However, SAG-AFTRA’s film and TV contract, which expires June 30, does not apply to SAG-AFTRA members working on soaps. It means those cast members will have to continue to work even if their guild goes on strike after the membership voted overwhelmingly for strike authorization ahead of SAG-AFTRA’s current negotiations with the the studios’ collective bargaining representative the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. And, with the four daytime dramas — The Young and the Restless (CBS), The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS), Days Of Our Lives (Peacock) and General Hospital (ABC) — continuing to churn out scripts amid the WGA strike using fi-core and other non-member writers,...

“Days of Our Lives” fans who are worried that their favorite 57-year-old soap won’t be recognizable once writing and producing it specifically for Peacock finally airs early next year, fear not. Daytime legend Deidre Hall assures fans, “We’re doing it exactly the same as we always have and will continue doing it that way.”
As the old adage goes, the only things you can count on are death and taxes. Well, and change. Add that to the list. And although “death” is not something you can count on when it comes to soap operas – Hall’s Dr. Marlena Evans has been presumed dead but was not four times since she joined the show in 1976 — a switch from its longtime run on NBC to NBCUniversal’s streaming service is the only change happening. Will it get a little more risqué with language or storyline because it’s now on cable?...

Stephanie has been in Seattle with her two brothers, Joey (Tanner Stein) and Tripp (Lucas Adams), but work has brought her to Salem.
Beyond Salem Season 2 brought Stephanie back on-screen, but this time with a new actress taking on the character.
Let’s take a look at the reason behind the switcheroo.

Finally, some movement on the Abigail murder mystery!
According to spoilers for Days of Our Lives during the week of 7-18-22, Salem's most well-known hypnotherapist will hypnotize Lucas to help him remember the night of Abigail's murder.
Lucas' experience is supposed to leave him with more questions than answers, but it's a good bet it'll prove his innocence, too.
If only Lucas' hypnosis had happened before Sami left town, she could at least be relieved that her almost-husband wasn't a murderer too!
Maybe he'll redeem himself enough for her to someday return to Salem and at least repair their friendship.

In any case, clips from the spoiler video suggest that Lucas witnessed the murder rather than doing it himself. He might have even tried to stop it, which could explain the cut on his hand.

If you liked 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol, Zach Tinker and Chandler Massey say that Sonny and Will are the Statler and Waldorf of Peacock’s holiday movie Days of Our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas.
That’s because the standalone flick, which streams this Thursday on the Peacock service, features the two actors’ characters as narrators/story creators who spin a fanciful and wondrous tale that imagines an multiverse version of Salem. And like the Muppets offering, there’s a Scrooge, romance and Christmas miracles.

Our TV Fanatics Jack and Christine are joined by Christine's daughter, Kate, as well as Tony from My Hourglass: A Days of Our Lives Fan Forum to discuss the Shane/Drew switcheroo, the series' campiness, and whether we would watch a second season. Read on for our thoughts!
Were you surprised that Drew turned to be posing as Shane to steal back all the jewels, or did you predict this twist?

Though if I had known about the Shane-Drew situation, I might have had a suspicion, but I...

I guess I should have seen that one coming.
Head writer Ron Carlivati loves doppelganger stories -- Salem is full of them. And Shane's evil twin brother, Drew, is a legacy character. So in retrospect, it's obvious that he would try to switch places with Shane and cause trouble.
But Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem Season 1 Episode 5 surprised me anyway. Well done!
Frew did such a great job of impersonating Shane that Ciara didn't realize it either until the real Shane came to her door... with a gun.
When Shane first showed up, I thought Ben was having a nightmare about Paige's grandfather wanting revenge. After all, "Shane" was the first person who didn't react to learning that Ciara is married to the former serial killer by resorting to violence to tear them apart.
I wish there had been another way to reveal this surprise twist besides reminding viewers that Ben murdered Paige,...

Simmons), the leader of one of the largest family-owned pharmaceutical companies, and his brother Frank (Bruce Dern). He and Patty (Nina Arianda) hope to use the power of Big Pharma to buy justice, but loyalties are tested when Patty feels Billy may be using her because she got a new job at a prestigious white-shoe law firm in San Francisco.
