Kari Lake, the Arizona Republican Senate candidate, delivered a speech while also standing in front of a confederate flag.
In late May, Lake was seen addressing supporters at a campaign event who had gathered in a store in Show Low, Arizona, with a Confederate flag draped on the wall behind her.
A photo posted on the store’s website shows Lake mugging with a supporter with the Confederate flag hanging on the wall.
“So many incredible patriots in Heber-Overgaard, Show Low and the White Mountains,” she mentioned while speaking at the shop.
“America is stepping up,” she added. “Arizona is stepping forward. It’s time to save this great Republic. I’m honored to be in this fight with these amazing patriots.”

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-az) raised money from Los Angeles and showbiz donors on Sunday for his campaign for a U.S. Senate seat in Arizona.
He’s the latest Democratic candidate to tap industry sources for campaign funds, as the party faces an uphill climb to retain control of the chamber.
The event Sunday was at the Beverly Hills home of political strategist Donna Bojarsky. Among the guests were Leslie Gilbert-Lurie, author and former TV executive and member of the Cal State University board of trustees; Christy Callahan, former creative executive and TV writer; former Rep. Howard Berman; actress and dancer Stephani Sosa; Flame Ventures’ Tony Krantz; and attorney and former Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel.

Republican Arizona Senate Candidate Kari Lake has flipped her position on the state’s 1864 abortion ban – for a second time, stating that it is “unfortunate” that Arizona is not enforcing the law.
On April 9, the Arizona Supreme Court issued a ruling to reinstate the ban, which resulted in instant position changes among Republicans who previously backed it, including Lake.
The Court overturned a 2022 law that permitted abortions up to 15 weeks, clearing the way for an 1864 ban that forbids the procedure except when needed to save the mother’s life.
The state’s highest Court first heard arguments on the case in December 2023 after the Arizona Court of Appeals determined that the two inconsistent abortion bans needed to be in harmony.
In a 4-2 decision, the justices said that the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the federal law that safeguarded abortion rights until viability, meant that there was no longer...

Arizona has officially repealed an 1864 abortion ban that the state Supreme Court revived last month.
Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs signed the repeal on Thursday, a day after the state Senate approved it. “While I’m proud to sign this bill and provide a moment of relief for Arizonans, we still have work to do,” Hobbs said. “Arizona women are still governed by a ban that leaves no exceptions for rape or incest, nor does it account for complications during pregnancy.”

Donald Trump continues to claim that Americans are positively over the moon about the destruction of reproductive rights — but he couldn’t be more wrong.
During a Wednesday rally in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the former president once again bragged about his role in overturning Roe v. Wade, and ending the federal right to abortion.
“Basically the states decide on abortion, and people are absolutely thrilled with the way that’s going on,” Trump told a crowd of supporters.

The Justice Department charged 20 people with threatening election workers throughout the United States through its Elections Threats Task Force.
This task force was formed in June 2021 in response to increasing reports of intimidation and threats to election workers following the 2020 election. Former President Donald Trump and his allies argued, without evidence, there was widespread fraud during this election.
In addition to the task force’s work leading to these charges, they opened dozens of investigations into other instances since their launch.
During a press conference in Arizona to lay out the sentence for the Ohio resident Joshua Russell for making death threats to an official working in the Arizona secretary of state’s office, Justice Department official John Keller told reporters that 13 of the 20 people charged were convicted.

On Tuesday, the Arizona Supreme Court upheld an absolute abortion ban based on a law drafted in 1864 that provides no exceptions for rape or incest and only grudgingly allows the procedure to actually save a woman’s life. The throwback ruling to a time before there even was an Arizona caught even some previously staunch anti-choice Republicans flatfooted, as they spent yesterday and today trying to save their political careers by sweatily assuring pissed off and deeply coveted woman voters that they think the court went too far.

Maga Senate candidate Kari Lake once called an archaic Arizona law that bans abortion in the state a “great” law that she would be “incredibly thrilled” to have it go into effect.
Well on Tuesday it did, and Lake is now attempting to reverse course as Republicans continue to face electoral backlash in the aftermath of Roe v. Wade’s demise.

In a move that has sparked intense debate, Arizona Republicans are pushing forward a bill that would grant individuals the legal right to use lethal force against people accused of attempting to trespass or actively trespassing on their property. Critics argue that this legislation could potentially legalize violence against undocumented immigrants, who often navigate through ranches located along the state’s border with Mexico.
Sponsored by state Rep. Justin Heap (R-Arizona), the bill aims to address what proponents see as a loophole that allows migrants to move within the United States.
The context for this proposed legislation stems from an incident that involved George Alan Kelly, an Arizona rancher who was accused of killing Gabriel Cuen Buitimea, a migrant who walked through Kelly’s 170-acre property last year. Kelly’s trial is scheduled for March 21.
If passed, the bill would expand the current doctrine that permits the use of deadly...

In a recent ruling by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Jay Adleman, Kari Lake, an unsuccessful Republican candidate for governor, has been tasked with substantiating the allegations she made against Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer in order to avoid being found guilty of defamation.
Judge Adleman emphasized that the claims Lake made that accused Richer of election sabotage were not mere rhetorical hyperbole, as argued by her lawyers.
Instead, he stated that these assertions could be considered as either true or false and thus fall under the category of actionable assertions of fact under Arizona law. Consequently, Lake is now obligated to present evidence in court supporting her accusations.
Adleman noted that Richer’s legal team has presented sufficient allegations to establish a potential case of “actual malice” against Lake, her campaign, and the Save Arizona Fund, which has been used to raise funds.

Wixen Music Publishing, the music publisher for Tom Petty, hit Kari Lake with a Cease and Desist letter on Friday over her use of Petty’s hit song “I Won’t Back Down.” The letter, obtained by Rolling Stone, comes after the Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate who lost to Katie Hobbs this week faced backlash from Petty’s estate for using the track.
As Lake’s use of Petty’s song suggests, she is currently refusing to concede the governor’s race, instead insinuating that voter fraud cost her the election.

Updated, 4:15 Pm: Rep. Karen Bass has defeated developer Rick Caruso in the race for Los Angeles Mayor, becoming the first woman to lead the city. With 70 of the vote tallied, the latest update from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County shows Bass with an insurmountable lead of more than 46,500 votes over Caruso.
Caruso had led the race after Election Day, but was surpassed by Bass last Friday. Since then, Bass has led consistently in each of the last six updates.
Caruso called Bass to concede this evening.
In a statement, Bass said, “The people of Los Angeles have sent a clear message: it is time for change and it is time for urgency.
“I ran for mayor to urgently confront the crises our hometown faces. Tonight, 40,000 Angelenos will sleep without a home — and 5 will not wake up. Crime is increasing and families are being priced out of their neighborhoods.

Donald Trump said that he is running for president in 2024, seeking to return to the White House amid warning signs that he’s losing support among key Republicans and perhaps even the right wing media machine.
“In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump told a crowd gathered at Mar-a-Lago.
Trump’s announcement had long been anticipated, as he had teased it in interviews and at campaign rallies.
His hour-plus speech was heavy in attacks on President Joe Biden, including personal barbs about him being out of touch, as well as “radical left Democrats.”
While he tackled issues like immigration and crime, Trump also pledged to dismantle the “deep state” and “the swamp” of D.C., using rhetoric heard throughout his presidency. He made a reference to “cheating” in elections, but did not dwell on his claims...

Dave Chappelle‘s third time hosting Saturday Night Live proved to be fruitful for NBC, as the episode hit a season high in ratings over the weekend.
The episode tallied a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.8 million total viewers, according to live + same-day Nielsen data. In any other season, those numbers wouldn’t be anything to bat an eye at — but for Season 48 they’re pretty good.
The first five episodes of Season 48 have averaged around 4 million viewers, as the show struggles to bounce back with audiences after a major cast exodus prior to the start of the season. Even Amy Schumer couldn’t lift the sketch comedy show out of its ratings slump, managing a 0.79 demo rating and 4.3 million viewers when she hosted on Nov. 5. The week prior, Jack Harlow’s double duty as host and musical guest drew a 0.76 in the demo and just 4.1 million total viewers.

Democratic candidate Katie Hobbs, who has vigorously defended abortion rights during her campaign, has defeated Republican Kari Lake, the Associated Press reports. Lake joins the overwhelming list of Maga wipeouts during the midterm elections.
Hobbs has defeated one of the most outspoken defenders of former President Donald Trump. Serving as Arizona’s Secretary of State, Hobbs has repeatedly rejected GOP lies about the election. Lake’s defeat follows the loss of two other high-profile election deniers — Republican Senate nominee Blake Masters and Secretary of State nominee Mark Finchem.

As Rupert Murdoch-owned outlets noticeably pinned the blame for the Republicans’ midterm losses on Donald Trump, Saturday Night Live spoofed Fox & Friends as its tried to break the news to the former Celebrity Apprentice host that he was no longer their favorite guest.
“Mr. President. I don’t know how to tell you this. But we have moved on. We can’t have you on the show anymore,” Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt (played by Heidi Gardner) told Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) in the aftermath of the Republicans dashed hopes of a red wave.
“What? What did I do?” Trump asked them. “Was it the insurrection?”
He then goes through a series of moments of the past seven years that had many in the media predicting his demise — the impeachment, “blackmailing Ukraine,” Charlottesville, an unbuilt wall — only to see him in the GOP’s continued embrace, and with it Murdoch’s empire.

Tucker Carlson has a type. He likes hardline nationalists who can cosplay anti-elitism while pretending they didn’t go to an Ivy, or have an heiress mother, or have the richest people in the country funding their campaign. He likes the kind of candidate who blends hateful nativism and a fear of the impending collapse of Western Civilization, with mockery of blue-haired, cat-owning coastal liberals.
Turns out Tucker’s type may not be super electable.

On Tuesday, Kerry Washington joined Vice President Kamala Harris and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Rep. Karen Bass for a meet-and-greet at a breakfast spot on Pico Boulevard, encouraging maximum civic participation on Election Day. But just before this, the actress and activist completed a three-day, four-state trip that she has termed the “S.O.S. Though Washington has been a surrogate for candidates for years, this election season she wanted to focus her efforts on showing up in battleground states for the midterm elections to raise awareness about the importance of secretary of state races (hence the “S.O.S.”) and the impact of local elections, as opposed to parachuting in every four years during the presidential voting cycle.

Saturday Night Live‘s Cold Open predictably focused on the upcoming midterm elections and the clown car of Republican Party candidates on the ballot. Heidi Gardner, playing PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff, took calls from the “political outsiders,” which obviously included: Cecily Strong’s Kari Lake, Kenan Thompson’s Herschel Walker, and Mikey Day’s Dr. Oz (whose best line came early: “The Phillies are in the World Series and I just had a delicious Philadelphia cheese and steak.”)

Saturday Night Live took on the Republicans’ lineup of high-profile midterm candidates Herschel Walker, Dr. Oz and Kari Lake, skewering them for their lack of experience and extremist ideas even as they have a good shot at winning their races, driven by their celebrity status.
The cold open was a satire on PBS NewsHour, with Heidi Gardner as Judy Woodruff interviewing all three candidates. Throughout, Walker, the GOP candidate for a Georgia U.S. Senate seat, keeps calling her “Judas,” while she calmly poses questions about the campaign.
At one point, Woodruff asks, “A second woman has now claimed you paid for an abortion, and your ex-wife has once said you once held a gun to her head. Why are millions of Georgia residents still voting for you?”
“Gas,” Walker, played by Kenan Thompson, responds.
“Yeah, Ok. Gas prices are high, but is there more to it than that?”
“Well,...

The campaign headquarters of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs was burglarized earlier this week, Phoenix police and a campaign official said Wednesday.
Police officers were called to Hobbs’ headquarters in midtown Phoenix on Tuesday afternoon, Arizona Central reports.
“Secretary Hobbs and her staff have faced hundreds of death threats and threats of violence over the course of this campaign. Throughout this race, we have been clear that the safety of our staff and of the secretary is our No. 1 priority,” said Nicole DeMont, the campaign manager for Hobbs, in a statement.

Trevor Noah took aim at Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake on Tuesday night, making her the main character of his “fringe-watching” segment. And while he had a laundry list of problems with the election-denying candidate, his biggest was the fact that she used to be very liberal.
Currently, Lake is in a close race for governor with Democrat Katie Hobbs. Lake has been endorsed by twice impeached former president Donald Trump, and has repeatedly amplified proven lies about the 2020 election. But Noah wanted to put viewers on to what Lake’s political beliefs used to be — including the fact that she was a donor to Barack Obama’s campaign.
“If you’ve only been following her for this election, you might think she’s your standard right wing Republican. You know Maga this, hang Mike Pence that, normal stuff,” Noah joked. “But what makes Kari Lake’s story fascinating is not who she is,...

Kari Lake, the GOP nominee running for Arizona governor, said she wants to give women “true choices” when it comes to abortion — right before she pledged to uphold an abortion ban in the state.
“We need to draw the line somewhere,” the candidate said during an appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation.
“We’re not giving women choices,” Lake told host Major Garrett. “I’m for giving women true choices. And when they walk into an abortion center, they’re only given one choice. And they’re not told...

Washington — The top election official in Arizona says there should be a criminal investigation into newly revealed efforts by Donald Trump’s allies to interfere with the 2020 vote count in the state. In an interview with MSNBC, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, referenced multiple phone calls made by Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Trump himself to a county election official in Arizona, and said those calls should be probed by law enforcement to see if they constituted criminal election interference.
