There’s a big surprise today in the Writers Guild West‘s 2013 initial list of election candidates: the scribe selected to run against incumbent president Christopher Keyser declined the nomination. That means, unless someone else can be convinced to run, Keyser right now is running unopposed. He was a newcomer to Wgaw leadership first elected two years ago when he defeated the polarizing Patric Verrone. Even back then, in 2011, few people stepped forward to run for the presidency: insiders told me that was because of great apathy. It seems nothing has changed even though the WGA constitution doesn’t allow for uncontested races: Los Angeles – The Writers Guild of America, West’s Nominating Committees have announced the initial list of candidates for the 2013 Wgaw Officers and Board of Directors election. In 1999, Robert J. Sawyer wrote FlashForward , a clever science fiction novel that showed how the world reacted to a suddenly global blackout and people glimpsing their futures 21 years hence. The catalytic event was centered at the Cern supercollider in Europe and largely focused on the scientists who worked there.
Interestingly, it was optioned for television and was being developed into a series at HBO, which decided it was trending more towards a prime time broadcast network show, so the rights got to ABC. With great fanfare and terrific initial reviews, the show debuted on September 24, 2009.
Maybe it should have stayed a limited run series on the premium channel. The resulting 22 episodes had lofty goals and a dynamite cast, but the sprawling story was messy, with way too many things not holding up well enough to sustain viewer interest. Episode Title: "Future Shock"
Written By: Timothy J. Lea & Scott M. Gimple
Story: The world has finally caught up with the future. A tipsy Mark Benford finds himself in the office where he's going to be shot at. Lloyd Simcoe and Olivia Benford find themselves in the same bedroom. Aaron Stark is by his daughter's side in Afghanistan. Bryce Varley and Keiko head to the same sushi restaurant. Nicole Kirby winds up in the water. Janis Hawk is in the hospital. Demetri Noh and Simon Campos are... somewhere. Now, the future has become the past. What did you see?
Vision Analysis: Here we are — the final episode. Of course, "Future Shock" wasn't constructed as a series finale, so it's difficult to judge it as such. But even looking at it purely as a season finale, the episode fell short for several reasons.
The foreseen events all happen a little too easily and,...

"FlashForward' will not be getting renewed by ABC. Although getting strong reviews initially, the show soon met with creative issues and continued doing so throughout its term. The Brannon Braga and David S. Goyer creation stars Courtney B. Vance, Joseph Vance, John Cho, Zachary Knighton and Peyton List. Showrunners changed three times - Jessica Boriczky, Lisa Zwerling and Tim Lea were most recently in charge. ABC also cut down its order on the series from 23 episodes to 22. This comes after October where the studio upped the count to 25 episodes. Series is based on the Robert J. Sawyer 1995 novel.

Following the exit of FlashForward showrunner David Goyer, three new people have been appointed to that role.
Us TV network ABC has announced that Jessika Borsiczky, Lisa Zwerling and Tim Lea will be the new showrunners for the drama, which is presently filming its 17th and 18th episodes.
ABC also says the total number of episodes in this first season will be reduced from 23 to 22. Back in October, the network wanted 25 episodes, then cut it to 24, then 23, before the latest revision.
Goyer, who remains as an executive producer, co-created the show with Brannon Braga, and became a showrunner when Mark Guggenheim exited the role last autumn.
The show returns on March 18.

Despite its quality, engrossing 2009 finale, we've seen the future of FlashForward - and it doesn't look bright.
Following the exit of its biggest name behind the scenes (David S. Goyer), the ABC drama has named a trio of new show runners: Jessika Borsiczky, Lisa Zwerling and Timothy J. Lea.
The group will take over the main writing duties on the mysterious series, which returns on March 18. Goyer will continue to serve as executive producer on the show, but not be involved in any day-to-day operations.
Another sign of bad news?
The network has reduced FlashForward's episode order from 23 to 22. Is this a very big deal? Not for an established series.
But for a first-year drama that's based around specific dates and events and which viewers certainly hope has planned out various reveals weeks in advance? It's a troubling sign.

ABC didn't waste much time in getting a new leadership team in place at its freshman show "FlashForward."
Jessika Borsiczky, Lisa Zwerling and Timothy J. Lea will take over as showrunners for the series, which returns to the air March 18, an ABC rep confirms to Zap2it. They take over for co-creator David Goyer, who will still be an executive producer but gave up his day-to-day duties on the show last week.
The network has also reduced "FlashForward's" episode order by one, from 23 to 22. The later-than-planned return (it was originally scheduled to come back March 4) meant that the additional episode wasn't needed.
