Somehow, in the midst of the “first quarter” of the year’s cinematic doldrums and discards a nice surprise “pops’ up to jolt you awake, or at the least engage your senses. And it’s even rarer that it’s from a relative newcomer or an artist that’s not yet “on the radar”. That changes now. Like many creatives, she’s far from an “overnight star”, as her IMDb lists more than a dozen or so acting credits. And then there are several listings of “behind the camera” work, in features and shorts on the big screen and small. Now, with this release she’s a true “triple threat” as she makes her feature directing debut while emoting in nearly every scene. Film fans, here to inject much-needed energy and a bit of snark into the “rom-com” is Leah McKendrick in Scrambled.

“Gaucho Gaucho” opens on a pristinely framed, lushly monochromatic shot of something that can only, at first glance, be described as an unidentified lying object. On a flat expanse of matted grassland, under a rolling widescreen canvas of sky, the camera centers a large, dark clump of what may be rock, earth or animal matter. Eventually it stirs, revealing the folds of its composition. A man rises from his slumber, clad in high boots, wide-brimmed hat and layers of hard-wearing fabric; then a horse’s head emerges from the mass, shaking and snorting and returning awkwardly to its feet. It’s an apt visual representation of the close kinship between human life, animal life and landscape that defines the Argentine cowboy community; in frame after perfectly composed frame, Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw’s loving, visually resplendent documentary gives them ample space to bond and merge.

Twenty-five years ago, three friends — played by Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler — invented an imaginary friend with the unbelievable name Ricky Stanicky to “visit” whenever they wanted to hang out. Now as grownups, that lie has caught up with them since their family members are demanding to meet the man who was their alibi on a trip to Atlantic City. So what do they do? In Peter Farrelly’s new work of cinema, Ricky Stanicky —”An R-Rated Comedy,” as the poster trumpets — they hire John Cena, who plays a washed-up stripper,...

What happens when a decades-old white lie starts snowballing out of control? Well, Zac Efron, Jermaine Fowler, Andrew Santino, and John Cena are all about to find out in Peter Farrelly’s new comedy film, Ricky Stanicky, which shared its first trailer today.
Set to premiere on Prime Video on March 7th, Ricky Stanicky tells the story of three longtime friends who have invented an imaginary character, named “Ricky Stanicky,” to strategically blame their misbehavior on. When their latest Stanicky antic doesn’t go as planned, though, their families begin to question what’s really going on. Hoping to quell any suspicions, the three come up with a solution: hire an actor to pretend to be Stanicky.
Landing on washed-up, X-rated, rock ‘n’ roll impersonator, Rock Hard Rod (Cena), as their Stanicky, the three’s plan seems to work at first. But as the uber-charismatic — albeit, brazen — Rock Hard Rod gets a new job,...

Spanish drama thrillers never go out of style. The theatrics and histrionics showcased in these shows never seem to end, and there is a large portion of the audience that enjoys such content. Elite, The Snow Girl, and Money Heist are some of the prime examples of thriller drama shows coming out of Netflix Spain. Holy Family is an eight-episodic series that was released last year and is about a family that seems to have decent social standing but is burdened by many secrets.
Season one began with middle-aged mothers Blanca, Gloria, and Alicia frequently meeting at an eatery to consume copious amounts of Margarita while they trudge through their lives as mothers. The show throws light on all kinds of issues these women face. Blanca has been married to a pilot while raising her son Lorenzo, who suffers from Down syndrome. Horror films generally do little to add layers to their characters. But I think I’ve seen an anomaly of the highest caliber in Demian Rugna’s When Evil Lurks, where the characters are deeply immersed in the world and they need not explain too much to gain our trust that something truly wicked is going on in the film. The film has some of the most fascinating characters, and they are made all the more potent by their placement in the context of a neo-noir western. When Evil Lurks knows exactly when to turn the proceedings up a notch, and even though it becomes too obscure during some moments, especially when dealing with the origins of evil, it keeps us engaged in the plot. It wouldn’t have been possible without complex characters that had enough gas to keep the events interesting. Most of the film rides on Pedro’s shoulders,...

Disease has always been fertile ground for the horror genre: what’s a zombie or vampire movie if not the story of a particularly nasty virus making its way from host to host? Demonic possession onscreen often has a similar subtext; look at the definitive example, 1973’s “The Exorcist,” where hosting an ancient evil leaves a little girl bedridden, covered in sores, and vomiting her stomach out.
“When Evil Lurks,” from Argentinian director Demián Rugna, takes the virus imagery and symbolism and runs with it as the central conceit, placing the audience in a tiny community that goes through, essentially, a rapidly escalating epidemic of demonic possession. Dave “Lil Dicky” Burd’s Dave is back with season 3. Naturally, many viewers are curious about the cast of the Fxx/Hulu series and where they might have seen the actors before. Find out what shows and movies Andrew Santino, Taylor Misiak, Christine Ko, Travis “Taco” Bennett, and GaTa have been in before, plus who the richest is out of the Dave cast.
Dave ‘Lil Dicky’ Burd and GaTa in season 3 of ‘Dave’ | Byron Cohen/FX Lil Dicky is the wealthiest ‘Dave’ cast member
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lil Dicky is worth an estimated $8 million in 2023. The rapper hasn’t released new music in some time, which means he hasn’t gone on tour and earned money from that revenue stream. Instead, he has been focused on writing new music and his Fxx series.
Burd’s co-star Santino, who plays his manager in the comedy series, ranks second when it comes to net worth.

With “John Wick: Chapter 4”, the saga of John Wick comes to a satisfactory conclusion, or not, given that there is a hint at the possibility of his return in the closing sequence. Looking back at how the franchise started with production concerns and a small budget, to blazing through an almost decade-long journey where its already iconic status has guaranteed a number of spin-offs and the biggest action stars joining the ventures, it’s safe to say “John Wick” has come a long way. Regardless of whether the Baba Yaga is summoned once again or not, there are multiple storylines and character arcs we wish to see attaining completion, and hopefully, the makers will take note of the popular demand as well.

Massive spoilers for "John Wick: Chapter 4" follow.
Throughout "John Wick: Chapter 4," both friend and foe ask John (Keanu Reeves) what he thinks the ending to his story is. His enemies are like a Hydra, Winston (Ian McShane) declares, and if he keeps chopping off heads, more will appear. That's why John seeks a duel with the Marquis de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård) so that he can permanently get the High Table off his back. John wins the duel, but it turns out the only freedom he can get is in death; Winston, the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), and John's dog show up for the funeral.
Now, the tone of the ending feels definitive, but the execution leaves some leeway. After remembering his wife Helen (Bridget Moynahan), John collapses in a wide shot. Cue a cross-dissolve to New York City, then cut to his gravestone. It seems hard to believe John Wick...

For those who've been following along on John Wick's increasingly labyrinthine journey back into the shadowy assassin underworld, things are much different for Keanu Reeves' coldblooded killer with an affinity for dogs and muscle cars (and guns ... lots of guns) than they were when he first burst upon the scene back in 2014. The more grounded and intentionally vague original movie only ever teased the hidden dealings behind The Continental hotel and its assorted trigger-happy society of patrons, peeking out just on the edge of every frame. Since then, every sequel has dived deeper and deeper into the world-building of the "John Wick" franchise and now, well, audiences have an entire mythology to keep track of as we steamroll toward this week's release of "John Wick: Chapter 4."

2023 has arrived, and to kick off the new year Netflix has a number of new additions hitting the streaming service in January. New Year’s Day marks the launch of the new original limited series “Kaleidoscope,” with episodes presented to subscribers in random order leading up to the big finale. The show chronicles the events before, during and after a major heist, with Giancarlo Esposito leading the cast, and is designed to be watched (and enjoyed) in any order.
Another high-profile Netflix original in January is “You People,” a new comedy film co-written by Jonah Hill and Kenya Barris, with Hill starring opposite Eddie Murphy in a premise that evokes “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” as he vies for the approval of his girlfriend’s father so he can marry her. Barris directed the comedy film, which arrives on Jan. 27.

And one other person: James Caan, although he hadn’t put himself forward for the gig. “One night,” Caan later recalled, “I got a call from Francis…and I could tell in his voice that this was not his idea: ‘Jimmy,...
