An original Survivor alum has passed away.
Sonja Christopher from the first season of Survivor has died.
Sonja was introduced to Survivor fans as a 63-year-old cancer Survivor from San Francisco. This was way back during Survivor: Borneo in 2000.
As part of the first Survivor cast, she was fun and known for strumming on her ukelele.
Unfortunately, Sonja was also the first person voted off Survivor, with the musician getting eliminated during the first-ever Survivor Tribal Council.
Her kindness shined through immediately, and it also led to an emotional response from host Jeff Probst when he had to snuff her torch.

Following her recent exit from “The Traitors” Season 2, in which she came in fifth place, “Survivor” legend Sandra Diaz-Twine went on Rob Cesternino‘s “Rob Has A Podcast” where she revealed whether she would ever play CBS’s rival reality TV show, “Big Brother.” Well, the simple answer is no — womp, womp. But the longer answer is a lot more blunt and hilarious, which fans of Queen Sandra have become accustomed to over the years. Watch the clip below.

Despite once naming a season Heroes vs. Villains, Survivor has turned a new leaf in recent years, choosing to focus on the positive rather than the negative. And, for host and showrunner Jeff Probst, that’s the way the show will be staying as long as he’s in charge. The Emmy-winning host recently joined former Survivor contestant and Rob Has a Podcast host Rob Cesternino, where he touched on a variety of topics, including how the show has moved away from highlighting negativity and villainous archetypes. “By merely changing the type of twists we put into the game, we can create negativity,” Probst explained. “It’s a manipulation, and it’s, what’s the conceit of the show? I’m not interested in [the negativity] anymore, and I think it’s a direct reflection not only of where the show was but of how it needed to evolve.” Following Season 40’s all-winners edition,...

Before Meghan Markle married a prince and became the Duchess of Sussex, she was known as Rachel Zane on a television show named Suits.
The show ran for nine seasons, with Meghan in seven of them. Now, a spin-off is in the works, and the question is whether or not Meghan will be involved.
Beatrice Springborn is the Universal International Studios boss, and she revealed late last fall that the spin-off is indeed happening and will have the “same energy and good-looking people as the original.”
After a disastrous 2023, Meghan Markle and her famous princely husband, Harry, are looking for ways to reinvent themselves.
A part as an actress or even director on the spin-off would generate income and hopefully good press for Meghan.
She tested the waters with a small part in an online ad for a company she invested in, Clevr Blends, with mixed results. Fans were not impressed,...

“Survivor” is a game that ends with one person claiming the life-changing $1 million prize, but sometimes the winner is not the one people expect. The title of Sole Survivor is the result of taking out the biggest competitors, being likable in the cast, and appealing to the jury, all while arguing the case of why you’re the most deserving of the win. While many of the champions are well-deserved, at least according to the passionate fans at home, others spark massive debate when Jeff Probst reads their names out loud. Scroll through our photo gallery above (or click here for direct access) where we detail the Top 10 biggest “Survivor” upset winners of all time.

The 44th season of Survivor premiered on March 1st, captivating fans and making it one of the longest-running reality TV shows. Big Brother two-time finalist Enzo “the Meow Meow” Palumbo has seemingly mastered the social game, as his likeability prevents him from getting nominated. After competing in Big Brother twice, he gave his shot at The Challenge. Where is Enzo now?
Enzo Palumbo placed third in ‘Big Brother 12’
In 2010, then-32-year-old New Jersey-based insurance adjuster Enzo Palumbo competed on Big Brother 12. The “Meow Meow” quickly protected himself by forming an alliance with Hayden Moss, Lane Elenburg, and Matt Hoffman, which he named the Brigade.
The group played an under-the-radar game and remained in control thanks to their nine combined Head of Household and Power of Veto wins.

Survivor is one of those shows that is made great by the character of the players and the work of the editors.
A jury of booted players always chooses the winner, but sometimes the winner is a surprise even to production.
It's up to the editors to craft a satisfying narrative based on the footage they have but still make sure the outcome isn't too obvious. Thirty-nine days (or 26 in the last three seasons) yields a lot of material, so you'd think they'd always have enough to go on.
Not always. Sometimes, making the winner appear deserving seems impossible, so the players' relationships and strategies are embellished or tossed aside in favor of an entertaining throughline. It hasn't always worked.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for many seasons of Survivor.

The Challenge: USA final is officially in the books, as 10 finalists battled it out in Patagonia to determine who would win the spinoff season.
After grinding through various checkpoints featuring puzzles, laborious tasks, and challenging weather conditions, Survivor stars Danny McCray and Sarah Lacina emerged as winners.
The pair were the only competitors to make it through every checkpoint in the final, while others ended up disqualified or quitting ahead of the finish line.
With the victory, Danny and Sarah won their share of 500,000 in prize money and qualified for the world championship tournament, set to arrive on Paramount Plus.
The format of that international tournament remains unclear, although it’s known it will feature other winners from spinoffs The Challenge: Australia, The Challenge: Argentina, and The Challenge: UK.

“Survivor 42” contestant Omar Zaheer has one of the coolest occupations of not just the season but in the entire history of the show. The 31-year-old Ontario native is an exotic animal veterinarian, and he compares the unpredictability of his line of work to the game of “Survivor.” “It’s all about panicking, staying calm,” says Omar in his CBS interview. “You never know what to expect, and that’s just like ‘Survivor'” (watch below).

While a physical show like “Survivor” may appear to favor jock types, some of the best castaways who often thrive the most in the game are the nerds. With strategy dominating the game, it is the brainier among us who stand out from the pack and typically become fan favorites in the process. They are typically described as “superfans” who have seen every episode and studied the game extensively, like Rob Cesternino, who changed how the game was played in “Survivor: The Amazon.” He was such a smart player that he went on to be voted out very early in “All Stars” due to his threat level. Check out our gallery of the Top 18 nerdiest “Survivor” players ever above.

“Survivor” superfans are currently hyped for the upcoming all-winners season, but it’s not always the case that the most popular contestant of the season is the one who wins. In fact, the audience tends to fall in love with those who just come up short of the $1 million prize, often more so than the champion. Players like Rupert Boneham, Cirie Fields and Joe Anglim will probably never win “Survivor,” no matter how many times they come back and try. Their likability is a double-edged sword — they’re genial enough to be safe through several Tribal Councils but once it gets toward the end, they’re too big of a jury threat to win. As we prepare for “Survivor: Winners at War,” here’s the ranking of our 16 favorite lovable losers we hoped would make it onto an all-winner season someday.

Recently, Rob Cesternino from "Rob Has A Podcast" caught up to houseguests Cody Nickson (above right) and Jessica Graf (above left) after the Big Brother season 19 finale show this past Wednesday night, September 20,2017. During the interview, Cody revealed exactly why his deciding vote went against houseguest Paul Abrahamian thus giving houseguest Josh Martinez the win. It turns out that Cody respected Josh's game more since he got up in his face instead of doing things behind closed doors like Paul. To start off the interview, Rob asked Cody,"What's going through your head right now? What's going through your head all the time is probably what a lot of us are wondering. You come out of the house. The first time you got evicted, you weren't sure if America liked you or hated you. And you end up being America's favorite player. How do you feel? Cody said, "I don't know.

This past Wednesday night, September 20,2017, Big Brother season 19 contestant Jason Dent chatted it up with Rob Cesternino from "Rob Has A Podcast" in the backyard interviews. During this interview, Jason revealed why he was one of the five jurors that voted not to award the grand prize of $500,000 to houseguest Paul Abrahamian. Jason revealed that he really had a problem with Paul keeping up the lie even after Jason was evicted. He just didn't think that was necessary among other things. The interview kicked off with Rob saying, "Alright, we're here with Jason aka Whistlenut. How you doing buddy?" Jason said, "I'm doing amazing. I'm glad to be here. I'm glad it's over." Rob said, "Are you happy with this outcome tonight?" Jason said, "You know what? I'm not unhappy. I feel like either way I was going to be rewarding bad behavior. But, I feel like both of those...

Don't feel bad for Joe Anglim.
When Survivor returns on Wednesday night, he'll be noticeably absent during the challenges. The rest of the tribe correctly determined that he was a threat to win the whole game and voted him out on day 31.
But Anglim, 27, will be just fine.
"Joe is athletic," host Jeff Probst told People earlier this season. "Joe is good-looking. Women want to date Joe; men wish they were Joe. He's got a lot of skills that make him good at life, but a threat at Survivor"
Case in point: Anglim competed so hard in an immunity challenge that he passed out.

Disclaimer: Stephen Fishbach has been People's resident Survivor blogger for years. He's quite popular around here.
We were excited when he was named as a possible contestant. We were thrilled when he made the final cast of the show. We were ecstatic – and a little bit surprised, if we're being perfectly honest – when he made it through the first tribal council without getting voted off.
As it turned out, Fishbach did better than anyone expected, forming solid alliances and lasting 29 days before being voted out.
Survivor is unpredictable, and Fishbach was eliminated after playing his "steal the vote" advantage? Why?...

The last time Ciera Eastin played Survivor, she infamously voted off her own mother.
So when Eastin decided to play the game again, she knew she would be targeted early as a threat. After all, if she'll vote for her mom, she'll do just about anything.
But something funny happened on this season – everybody was a threat in some way. As a result, Eastin made it for 26 days despite being on the wrong side of the numbers after the merge.
As she scrambled to stay alive, she begged the other contestants to "just play the game." And they did: Eastin...

Woo Hwang came into this season of Survivor with a lot of baggage.
When the 31-year-old martial arts instructor played in Survivor: Cagayan, he made a colossal mistake in taking eventual winner Tony Vlachos to the finals even though he may have had a better chance against Kass McQuillen, who had rubbed some of the contestants the wrong way.
That choice cost him the game.
During his second chance, Hwang's game never really got off the ground. He went to nearly every tribal council and watched as his allies were voted off.

Terry Deitz waited a decade to return to Survivor. In 2005's Survivor Panama, he finished the season in third place, but he always believed that he could do better.
"I always felt like I had what it takes to win the game," he told People before competing on Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance, "and I've been waiting for ten years to go back."
But his dream came to an abrupt end the night of day 13 when host Jeff Probst came to the camp and told Deitz that his son was ill and that he needed to return home immediately.
It was very serious.

Rumor has it that there was a contestant named Monica Padilla on this season of Survivor – although it's not surprising if you didn't notice.
For whatever reason, the editors of Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance chose to hide her for much of the season, giving her hardly any airtime. When she finally did get some confessionals on Episode 5, she went home.
It was a surprising lack of character development for a smart contestant who could have been lethal. Before the season began, several of this season's contestants told People that they were afraid that Padilla would aggressively walk away with the game.

Few contestants have been beaten down by Survivor as much as Shirin Oskooi.
After spending 10 years applying for the show, she was finally cast in Survivor: Worlds Apart. On that season, she had vitriolic clashes with contestants Dan Foley and Will Sims that reduced her to tears.
Then she got the chance to play again in Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance. There was just one hitch: she would be playing back-to-back seasons. As soon as the Survivor: Worlds Apart live finale was finished, she would be whisked away to play again.

Before the premiere of Survivor: Worlds Apart, host Jeff Probst promised People that they had assembled one of the strongest casts in the show's 30-season run.
While that may be true, it's also one of the meanest casts ever. Arguments are common on Survivor, but this season is full of vicious personal attacks.
The result: a sharply divided fanbase. In Previously on Survivor, one of the show's largest Facebook groups, some fans love the season.
Others do not.
As two-time contestant Rob Cesternino tells People: "Survivor is like pizza. Even when it's bad, it's good."

The results of a CBS.com poll of "Survivor" fans are now on newsstands, as part of a special commemorative issue of CBS Watch! magazine. The 100-page, full-color magazine is a pretty great overview of the series, except for the absolute wrongness of its polls. That's especially true for its "all time best seasons" poll. Yes, ranking "Survivor" seasons is about as difficult as stacking cooked spaghetti noodles, and about as useful. It's mostly good for creating disagreement. What one viewer values, another dismisses--but that's one of the many reasons why the series has survived for 30 seasons. There's a lot to argue about. Even looking at objective data about Survivor winners and cast members can prompt discussion. So, here are the results of CBS' poll, and one fan's thoughts and arguments about why the other fans' collective wisdom often seems screwed up. #1: Survivor Heroes vs. Villains, season 20, 2010 Why this...

It’s the age-old reality TV debate: Where can the best TV game strategists be found — on Survivor or Big Brother? Well, that question may finally be answered on the new Reality Gamemasters web series. Debuting June 4 on realitygamemasters.com, Reality Gamemasters (which was funded through Kickstarter) pits three Survivor finalists (winners John Cochran from Caramoan and Sophie Clarke from South Pacific, as well as Tocantins runner-up Stephen Fishbach) against three Big Brother schemers (last season’s winner Ian Terry as well as former “America’s Player” Eric Stein and “Brigade” member Matt Hoffman). But the battlefield this time is...

Survivor Review, Season 26, Episode 14
“Last Push”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Despite the unpredictable second half of Survivor: Caramoan, a sense of inevitability dominates the finale. Cochran has avoided the vote throughout the game, and his victory feels secure after he wins the final immunity challenge. The only question is whether Dawn or Sherri will receive any votes, and the bitter jury makes it clear neither has much chance to crack the scoreboard. While Jeff Probst makes a huge deal about Cochran being unconventional, it’s not a surprise to see him win the million. Along with playing a strategic game, he has the likability factor that’s eluded powerful contestants like Russell Hantz at their Final Tribal Council. The jury needs to feel good about giving the million dollars to the winner, and only one possibility fits that requirement. Dawn received unfair nastiness from fans after Brenda’s exit,...

Survivor Review, Season 26, Episode 11
“Come Over to the Dark Side”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Survivor fans love players who make big moves and don’t coast to the end. They’d much rather see a strategist like Rob Cesternino jumping alliances and shaking up the game then watch a dominator like Kim Spradlin. It makes the game exciting and avoids the predictable boots that plagued the South Pacific and One World seasons. The danger for players is that going after the title often doesn’t work. The riskier strategy wins the love of the fans, particularly when it’s done without the arrogance of Russell Hantz. Can players win this way in the game’s current era, however? In a season of returning players, the paranoia is even higher. Telling the wrong person (i.e., Dawn) can ruin any plan. Last week, Malcolm executed a wonderful move...

Survivor: Caramoan Preview
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Premieres February 13
In his interviews during the very entertaining Survivor: Philippines season last fall, Jeff Probst claimed that the next installment would be even better. While this could just be an attempt to draw viewers, it still raises the intrigue for the show’s 26th chapter. The hook is the return of 10 past contestants for a second Fans vs. Favorites battle. It repeats the format of season 14, which took place in Micronesia. The returning players dominated that game and took the top three spots, with Parvati winning the top prize. The fans were not good players and star struck during the early going. This time, the show has pulled “favorites” almost solely from recent seasons. The familiar group is skewed towards craziness over stellar game play and includes few players who dominated their original seasons. Thankfully, everyone has appeared once previously,...
