It’s now hard to imagine a time when football was without goal line technology (Glt). The last few years have proven many things; the fact Luis Suarez randomly bites opposing players without warning, that England are a million miles away from winning a major tournament, underdogs can win the Premier League, and most importantly, that there is room within the game for technology.
With Glt being a huge success, it must once and for all convince the doubters that video technology will not ruin the game. In July 2010 English hearts were broken when Frank Lampard’s perfectly good goal wasn’t awarded, but without knowing it then, football was to change forever. This incident was the moment that Sepp Blatter re-opened discussions concerning the use of Glt, and how happy are we they decided to do that. Some moments, (Lampard’s goal against Germany not being the case), are impossible to call.

Manchester United is one of England’s most successful teams, with 38 trophies – including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns – being won during a glittering 26-year period for the club. Boasting an iconic stadium that houses 76,000, and a trophy cabinet crammed with every major honour in the English game, it’s easy to see why so many world class players want to ply their trade for the Red Devils.
Some of the game’s household names have represented United – Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo, George Best and more – and while they enjoyed stellar careers at the club, there are others who have found the self-styled ‘Theatre of Dreams’ more of a nightmarish experience. For every Cantona there has been an Obertan and for every Ronaldo a Kleberson – moving to United does not guarantee instantaneous success. With that in mind, here we take a...

Adrian Chiles and Robbie Savage have been voted among the most gaffe-prone football pundits.
A new poll of British footy fans lists Chiles twice in a top ten of slip-ups this season, while Chris Kamara and Matt Le Tissier also feature.
1,500 football fans were asked to select the most embarrassing quotes this season and of all time.
The top ten of the 2013/14 season is:
1. "Who'll win the league? It's a coin toss between three of them." - Matt Le Tissier (23%)
2. "If that happens anywhere else on the pitch, it's a stonewall penalty." - Chris Kamara (21%)
3. "In the last year, 46 of the 92 managers have lost their jobs - that's over half." - David Pleat (20%)
4. "I'm trying to get some building work done at the moment, quite seriously. Be careful." - Adrian Chiles talking about the perils of upsetting Polish football fans (19%)

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has made a marked improvement since arriving at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
After a difficult spell in England which saw his body strength and abilities to cope with the rigours of English football called into question, the Spaniard has put his troubles behind him.
De Gea’s performances have been one of only a few positives from what has largely been a troublesome debut season for David Moyes, who has struggled to step into Sir Alex Ferguson’s shoes.
United have already lost eight times this season, the most games they have ever lost since the inception of the Premier League, and are floundering in seventh.
But while the Red Devils have been struggling, midfielder Darren Fletcher recently singled de Gea out for praise, saying:
He has been fantastic for us. There has not been a better goalkeeper around for the last 18 months.

With 9 goals in 13 games it’s probably fair to say that, after a slightly shaky start filled with worries about niggling injuries, settling into a new country and a new style of play, Gareth Bale is beginning to make his mark amongst the Meringues of Madrid and starting to repay his enormous £85 million transfer fee.
It’s a long way to come for the young school caretaker’s son who was almost not accepted into the Southampton Academy because he was too short. Fortunately for Bale, Saints take pride in their youth development and scouting abilities and the Welsh winger is just one of a long line of young players to emerge from the South Coast club. After all, Bale hitting form for Real coincides with fellow Saints Academy graduate Adam Lallana captaining a Southampton side containing talented youth team players Luke Shaw and James Ward-Prowse to an impressive start...

Ben and Gabe Turner's football documentary The Class of 92 puts Manchester United's treble-winning team of 1999 under the microscope, specifically the six players - David Beckham, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs - who graduated from the club's youth academy and became some of the most decorated players the English game has ever seen.
Simply put, the Turners' film is funny and moving - essential viewing for football fans. Contributions from the likes of Tony Blair and Danny Boyle put the time period of The Class of 92 into a wider cultural context, but at its heart this is a Stand by Me-like tale of six young friends growing up together and sharing many ups and downs.
With The Class of 92 on the horizon, Digital Spy takes a look at eight soccer stories that could make incredible movies...

The Premier League: Arguably the most competitive and highest standard of domestic club football on the planet.
Over the years, some of the world’s best players have graced the competition – Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alan Shearer, Ryan Giggs, Dennis Bergkamp, Rio Ferdinand, Jurgen Klinsmann, Gareth Bale, David Ginola and Didier Drogba to name but a few.
But there have also been some absolute turkeys.
Who can forget Ali Dia – the Senegalese footballer who had previously only ever played non-league football in England, as well as around Europe for a series of poor teams – the man who convinced the then Southampton boss Graham Souness that he was George Weah over the phone. ‘George’ told Souness to sign ‘his cousin’, Dia and, without even checking up on him, Souness signed him and brought him on as a substitute against Leeds United, but he was substituted himself 20 minutes later with Saints legend...

Premier League side Southampton sacked manager Nigel Adkins yesterday, and swiftly appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager.
The news staggered many in the footballing world; Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson labelled it as “crazy” whilst Saints legend Matt Le Tissier accused Chairman Nicola Cortese of turning the club “into a laughing stock”.
Having been promoted to the Premier League after a seven year absence only this season, Southampton initially found life difficult in the top flight, and their transition to the highest tier of English football wasn’t made easy when they were handed Manchester United in their first home game, which they lost 3-2. The Saints only won one Premier League game in their first month in the league and picked up just three wins going through to December.

Matt Le Tissier was a one-club player whose entire professional career was spent at The Dell playing for Southampton. That's enough to earn affection from fans, but it was his sublime skill which endeared him to so many. What made Matt Le Tissier such a special player wasn't the times during matches when he would conjure a moment of genius from thin air, it was that he would produce them with all the effort of someone stretching while yawning.

Eric Cantona's cheeky side-foots and Thierry Henry/Robert Pires' embarrassing training-ground-routine-gone-wrong (more)...
