Smash is expected to arrive on Broadway in spring 2025. Executive producers included Steven Spielberg, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, David Marshall Grant, and Joshua Safran.

Masters of the Air is the newest tribute to World War II veterans from Spielberg and Hanks. All of their projects on the subject, including Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers and The Pacific, concentrate on different aspects of the Great War and make for good viewing companion pieces. As the new series follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany, the review from our own Alex Maidy spoke highly of the show. He stated, “It is unlikely that any series will equal the acclaim that Band of Brothers achieved. Still, the blend of feature film directors and a cast of actors more than up to the task, Masters of the Air is a powerful companion to that HBO series and ranks slightly higher than The Pacific.

“Masters of the Air” launched with more viewers in its opening weekend than any Apple TV+ series ever has in its first season, according to the streamer. Though an exact number of viewers was not made available, that puts the epic war miniseries launch above other high-profile original titles like “Hijack,” “The Morning Show” and “Severance.”
Remarkably, following the premiere of “Masters of the Air,” viewership across all of Apple TV+ climbed by 65% worldwide when compared to the previous seven-day period. The streamer also maintained double-digit growth across more than 100 territories.
“Masters of the Air” is currently debuting new episodes, with its sixth installment premiering on Friday, Feb. 23. The finale will bow on the streamer on March 15.

After many years in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Halo video game franchise finally made its way out into the world as a Paramount+ streaming series back in 2022, with the first episode of the show quickly becoming Paramount+’s most-watched premiere. But while the TV series is returning for a second season, which is scheduled to begin streaming on February 8th, the first season wasn’t met with overwhelming positivity, as many fans of the video game source material were disappointed by some of the choices made for the adaptation. Not even star Pablo Schreiber, who plays the character Master Chief on the show, was entirely happy with that first season. Speaking with SFX Magazine, Schreiber revealed there was even one element that he felt was a huge mistake: the romantic storyline with Master Chief and Makee (Charlie Murphy), which even included a sex scene.

Amblin TV has built its reputation over the past three decades as one of the industry’s busiest boutiques, producing scripted series across all major platforms that range from popcorn to prestige.
But in recent years, there’s been a new storytelling target for Amblin TV chiefs Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, who have headed Steven Spielberg’s TV production banner (previously DreamWorks TV) for more than 20 years. Amblin TV has moved aggressively into documentary feature and docu-series arena. It’s a development motivated by business necessity but also the desire to add more colors and canvases to the overall Amblin TV palette.
This year, the company fielded a surprise hit with a nature documentary for Netflix, “Life on Our Planet,” which topped the streamers’ domestic viewing charts for multiple weeks after its release in late October. Amblin also delivered the well-received feature “Good Night Oppy,” from director Ryan White...

Apple TV+ taketh away, but Apple TV+ also giveth in spades. It's been over a decade since production on the war epic "Masters of the Air" began, but the Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks-executive produced limited series follow-up to "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" is almost here. Originally developed as a project for HBO, "Masters of the Air" jumped over to Apple TV+ in 2019 as the first in-house production for the studio. Of course, filming a sweeping WWII drama with explosions and flight scenes will take a bit more time than, say, a relatable dramedy like "Shrinking" (not to mention the necessary delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic), but the newest trailer for the highly-anticipated series signals that our wait has not been in vain.

A TV series based on Universal’s “Cape Fear” is in the works with Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Nick Antosca.
The show, which is in development from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amblin, would mark Scorsese and Spielberg’s first ever TV project together. They executive produce with Antosca, who is also the showrunner and created true crime and horror dramas like “Channel Zero,” “The Act” and “Brand New Cherry Flavor.” Other executive producers include Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey from Amblin Television and Alex Hedlund from Eat the Cat.
Here’s the logline for the “Cape Fear” re-imagining: “A storm is coming for a pair of married attorneys when an infamous killer from their past gets released after years in prison. A tense, contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century.”

Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are heading back to Cape Fear.
The two legendary directors are executive producing a new “Cape Fear” series currently in development, IndieWire has confirmed; one that offers a new twist on Scorsese’s 1991 film with Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte and the 1962 classic with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum.
The show doesn’t have a network just yet, but it is a hot property currently fielding bids from several interested buyers, making it the first major TV series auction since the writers and actors strikes ended. Bidding is said to be in early stages.

At one point in time, Steven Spielberg was set to direct the thriller Cape Fear, while Martin Scorsese was attached to direct the historical drama Schindler’s List. Then Scorsese decided to step away from Schindler’s List, a choice that coincided with Spielberg deciding that Cape Fear was too violent for him. So the directors traded movies – resulting in Scorsese directing Robert De Niro and Juliette Lewis to Oscar nominations for Cape Fear and Spielberg turning Schindler’s List into a Best Picture winner. Now Deadline reports that Spielberg and Scorsese are teaming up to executive produce a TV series adaptation of Cape Fear, with Nick Antosca on board as executive producer and showrunner.
Antosca’s previous credits include Hannibal, The Forest, Channel Zero, Brand New Cherry Flavor, Antlers, The Act, Candy, and A Friend of the Family.

In 1991, director Martin Scorsese remade 1962’s Cape Fear, based on the 1957 novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald, for Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Entertainment. It appears they’re returning to the IP: Deadline reports that Scorsese and Spielberg have teamed with “Channel Zero” creator Nick Antosca for a new series that’ll take an unconventional approach.
“Cape Fear” marks the first ever TV collaboration for Scorsese and Spielberg, who are executive producing the project from creator, executive producer and showrunner Nick Antosca.
The series is described as a “a tense, contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century. In it, a storm is coming for a pair of married attorneys when an infamous killer from their past gets released after years in prison.”
In every iteration of Cape Fear so far, the plot sees a lawyer’s family tormented by the criminal he helped put in prison.

Just in time for the spooky season, it was recently announced that a new TV series based on the 1980s hit ‘Poltergeist’ is in early development over at Amazon MGM Studios. In an article by Variety, it was revealed that Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will serve as executive producers on behalf of Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Television.
Having Amblin behind the TV series is great news considering they are the original film company behind the first popular film. Poltergeist was originally released in 1982 and was directed by legendary, Tobe Hooper of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. The film has a cult following and has two sequels.
The first film earned roughly $121 million worldwide with a reported budget of $10.7 million. It was nominated for three Academy Awards. No writers are attached to the project, but it was reported that the TV series will take place in the same world as the films.

MGM Studios are developing a new live-action TV series, based on director Tobe Hooper’s 1982 horror feature "Poltergeist", to be produced by Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television, streaming on Prime Video in 2024:
"...in the original 1982 feature, 'Steve Freeling' lives with his wife, 'Diane' and their three children, 'Dana', 'Robbie' and 'Carol Anne' in Southern California, where he sells houses for the company that built the neighborhood.
" It starts with just a few odd occurrences, such as broken dishes and furniture moving around by itself. However, things take a sour turn, and eventually, ghosts abduct Carol Anne.
"Realizing that something evil haunts his home, Steve calls in a team of parapsychologists led by 'Dr. Lesh' to investigate, hoping to get Carol Anne back..."

A new Poltergeist series is reportedly in the works at Amazon MGM Studios, according to Variety. The project which is supposedly in the early stages doesn’t currently have a writer attached, but Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce the show on behalf of Amblin Television, Steven Spielberg‘s production company. As fans of the original 1982 film will recall, Spielberg co-wrote the screenplay and produced the horror hit. No plot details for the new show have been unveiled at this time, but according to Variety, the series will be set in the same world as the film. (Credit: Everett Collection) In the original film, Poltergeist followed the Freeling family, who upon moving into their new home, discover it’s haunted by a horde of horrifying ghosts. When one of the ghosts kidnaps their young daughter Carol Anne (Heather O’Rourke), the Freelings recruit a parapsychologist and spiritual medium to help rescue her.

Last year, Amazon closed an $8.5 billion acquisition of the film studio MGM, giving them ownership of the studio’s thousands of films and TV shows. Earlier this year, we heard that Poltergeist was one of the six MGM properties Amazon was most interested in doing something with… and now Variety has discovered that a Poltergeist TV series is in early development at Amazon MGM Studios! There are no plot details to share at this time, but Variety has been told “the show will be set within the world of the film”.
Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey are set to executive produce the series for Amblin Television.

We are nearly ten years removed from the most recent installment in the Poltergeist franchise, with the Gil Kenan-directed remake released back in 2015. That film failed to make a splash of any kind, coming along in the wake of two sequels and a TV series.
So what’s going on with the Poltergeist franchise? Amazon, you may recall, recently acquired MGM, and it looks like Amazon is soon bringing the classic horror franchise back to life.
Variety reports this afternoon that a Poltergeist television series is in early development at Amazon MGM Studios. There is no further information on their plans at this time, however.

Oscar winner Morgan Freeman provides the narration for Netflix’s documentary series Life on Our Planet. The eight-part docuseries just launched a trailer that features a sampling of the many creatures who roamed Earth millions of years ago.
In notes provided by Netflix, producer Dan Tapster explained that they created the look of the dinosaurs by being as scientifically accurate as possible.
“Ultimately, the goal was to keep creative license to a minimum and try instead to have scientific veracity at the heart of each sequence. From an asset design point of view, that’s relatively straightforward since the designs are all based on fossils. However, sometimes there is disagreement amongst the paleontological community, and when that was the case, we always tried to position ourselves with the most widely held view,” stated Tapster.

Billy the Kid will be back on TV screens very soon.
MGM+ this week that Billy the Kid Season 2 will debut on Sunday, October 15, at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.
There is a little bit of a catch:
Four episodes of the season will air this year, with the final four being held until 2024.
A reason for the decision has not been revealed, but there's a good chance it has something to do with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Deadline reports that Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Television is teaming up with Boardwalk Pictures and Vice Studios to bring the four-part docu-series Encounters to the Netflix streaming service – and the premiere date for this show is only a month away! It will be available to watch on Netflix as of September 27th.
Yon Motskin, creator of the Max series Generation Hustle, has directed the four episodes of Encounters, which will explore four extraordinary true stories of encounters with otherworldly phenomena. Each episode tells a single story: strange lights in the sky over small-town Texas; submersible space crafts haunting a coastal Welsh village; an alien encounter with schoolchildren in Zimbabwe and non-human intelligence reportedly interfering with a nuclear power plant in Japan. Told from the perspective of firsthand experiencers – in the places where the sightings occurred – and guided by scientists and military personnel, the series highlights the profoundly human impact of these encounters on lives,...

Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television continues developing an episodic mystery, TV adaptation of director Akira Kurosawa's feature "Rashômon" (1950), "providing subjective, alternative, self-serving and contradictory versions of a singular event", to be executive produced by Amblin TV's co-presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey:
"We couldn’t be more excited to adapt this extraordinary film as the foundation for a new dramatic mystery thriller series," said Frank and Falvey. "It will explore the boundaries of truth and how different perspectives don't often reveal the same reality."
With 'samurai' action "Rashômon" is noted as investigating the philosophy of justice.
Through an ingenious use of camera and flashbacks, Kurosawa reveals the complexities of human nature as four people recount different versions of the murder of a samurai and the assault of his wife.

They’re still tiny and now they’re learning to be a little looney with a new spin on one of television’s most catchy theme songs.
Tiny Toons Looniversity, the updated take on 1990s favorite Tiny Toon Adventures, used its time at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday morning to unveil its theme song, which as you’d expect, is based on the beloved theme song from the original — but with a new twist.
Composer Matthew Janszen has taken composer Bruce Broughton’s Daytime Emmy-winning tune and remixed the original arrangement and lyrics to fit the rebooted show made for a new generation.
The voice cast features Eric Bauza as Buster, Daffy and Gossamer; Ashleigh Hairston as Babs; David Errigo Jr. as Hamton J. Pig and Plucky; and Tessa Netting as Sweety. Looniversity also brings back Tiny Toon Adventures grads Jeff Bergman, Bob Bergen, Candi Milo and Cree Summer, who...
