Jonathan Barker, a producer and executive who co-founded the giant-screen producer-distributor Sk Films and was its CEO, died Thursday morning of cancer in Toronto. He was 67.
Also a board member of the Giant Screen Cinema Association, Barker launched Sk Films two decades ago with Bob Kerr, who had co-founded Imax Corp in 1968. Sk went on to produce more than a dozen projects that combine human drama and natural history discoveries. Among them was the eco-adventure series The Water Brothers, which Barker executive produced and starred his environmentalist sons Alex and Tyler.
Other titles produced and/or distirubted by Sk Films include the Oscar-shortlisted 2003 docu short Bugs! and 2012’s Flight of the Butterflies, the only film to sweep the Gsca Awards. Barker was executive producer of those films, along with other Sk titles such as 1997’s Mission to Mir, 2009’s Journey to Mecca and its 2010 follow-up Roads to Mecca, and this year’s Backyard Wilderness.

Congrats, Greasers and Fox execs: “Grease: Live” is a big hit — but not as big as NBC’s recent “The Wiz” revival. Fox’s Sunday night live musical effort earned a 7.4 rating/11 share in the 56 metered market households. “The Wiz Live” in December scored a 7.9/13. National numbers can certainly tell a different tale, and these should be considered very preliminary indicators. Fast national ratings — and then final data — should be out within a few hours. NBC’s Saturday Night Live was very good to NBC’s Sunday Night Live, Aka the Super Bowl telecast, tossing barbs of varying pointedness at the big game. The best bit was the shortest, from Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost, who noted that the NFL’s powerful anti-domestic violence PSA was slated to run on the one night of the year no NFL players would see it. In other Super Bowl faux-news, the cold open featured Kenan Thompson, Jay Pharaoh and Taran Killam mimicking zip-lip…...

Daredevil acrobat Nik Wallenda has done it again! The high-wire artist successful completed his latest challenge high above the Chicago River Sunday night live on the Discovery Channel. The first challenge featured Wallenda walking uphill at a 15-degree angle from the Marina City west tower to the top of a skyscraper on the other side of the Chicago River. Soon after, he walked completely blindfolded between the two Marina City towers, memorable landmarks in Chicago. "My life is inspiring people. How am I going to inspire people to never give up if I don't allow myself to become better?" he explained Sunday night. "It's very easy to become complacent when you've done...

What can you say when a daredevil takes on a challenge that makes you throw up a bit when you think of the insanity of it? Nik Wallenda is a seventh-generation high-wire artist, and part of the flying Wallendas, despite a horrific death in 1978 of Karl Wallenda, Nik's great-grandad. Both Nik and the Discovery Channel created a Sunday night live event that featured impossible camera angles showing the danger of walking a tightrope over an unpredictable windy gorge. Nik began wire walking at the age of 2. He has since accomplished several Guinness World Records, one for longest and highest bicycle ride on a high-wire 250-foot-long ride at 135 feet above the ground in New Jersey.

London - Downton Abbey and X Factor on U.K. commercial broadcaster ITV1 and BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing continue to dominate the weekend ratings in Britain. But Strictly for the first time beat out X Factor on Sunday in terms of average viewership when excluding the audience of the latter's instant repeat. The Sunday night live results show of music competition X Factor drew a peak audience of 10.7 million viewers, winning the peak ratings battle for the night after losing out to the BBC celebrity dance show, which peaked at 10.1 million, on Saturday. We're gearing up for the premiere of Comedy Central's Roast Of Roseanne on Sunday, and since everyone already knows about Jeffrey Ross' Joe Paterno outfit and Jane Lynch's F-u to Chick-Fil-a, we imagine you are, too.
Since we still have to wait until Sunday, we thought we'd go ahead and break out the first of our red carpet interview clips from last weekend's taping in Los Angeles. We were honored to have Dr. Venture himself, James Urbaniak, stand in as our celebrity red carpet interviewer, and the gentleman did not disappoint.
In this clip, he speaks to Jane Lynch, Jeffrey Ross, Gilbert Gottfried and more about why Roseanne needs to be roasted and what their "Ooo!" face looks like. He also gets recognized by exactly one Venture Bros. fan. Can't win 'em all.
Stay tuned for our Sunday night Live Blog, where we'll be adding more interviews from the red carpet,...

Hillsong is a multi-million dollar global brand with a massive following, particularly among the young. What can marketers learn from this fast-growing faith factory as it turns 30, asks Robin Hicks.
Say what you like about Hillsong. The happy-clappy megachurch does not enjoy a Godly reputation in all quarters, and gets a kicking in the comment thread on Mumbrella whenever we write a story about Gloria Jean’s, the coffee chain it supposedly has ties with (which Hillsong denies – see below).
It’s also been on the receiving end of some bad press for a lack of transparency over its finances, sordid goings-on that led founder Brian Houston’s father to depart, a book by a former Hillsonger that called it ‘toxic Christianity’, and allegations of vote stacking in Australian Idol.
But Hillsong is one of Australia’s few global brands. It is one of the most powerful Australian youth brands.

Sorry, HBO, but AMC has just won Sunday nights. Yeah, I like True Blood okay, and I'll like Boardwalk Empire when it premieres. But unfortunately, those shows are being placed on my backburner — they'll be my Monday afternoon DVR picks, not my Sunday night live picks. That's because AMC is taking over Sunday night with such ferocity that you can't help but think that they're waging some silent war against HBO for all they're worth.
Mad Men is premiering tonight, but a week from tonight, AMC will have two shows of the highest calibre airing instead of just one. I'm talking about their show Rubicon, which is having a two-hour premiere on August 1, leading up to the second episode of Mad Men's fourth season.
Why two hours? Well, the first hour has already technically premiered, airing after Breaking Bad's series finale back in June (that episode is still free on iTunes,...
