“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is not slowing down for its last turn at the Emmys. For its fifth and final season, the period comedy on Amazon Prime Video is finishing exactly at the same amount it started with, at 14 Emmy nominations, almost a fifth of the streamer’s 2023 total of 68. This is the longest-spanning season for the show, covering five decades in nine episodes detailing the title character’s ascending career and destructive personal life. Among its mentions are its bid for Best Comedy Series, an honor that it has received its entire run (it won in 2018), as well as major categories it has succeeded in years past. Read on for a closer look at “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s” 14 Emmy nominations.

Amazon is deepening its relationship with Alex Borstein.
In fact, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star is readying her first Amazon Original comedy special, which she’s titled Alex Borstein: Corsets & Clown Suits. It’s slated to hit on April 18th, four days after Maisel debuts its fifth and final season on the service. Fittingly, it was filmed at The Wolford Theatre, the fictional burlesque club from Maisel‘s fourth season, and relied on the award-winning crafts team from the show.
The special, which comes as Borstein and her co-stars embark on another crowded awards season, is being billed as the three-time Emmy winner’s “deeply personal and wildly fictitious account of one woman’s attempt to f*** with perception.” Equal parts provocative and whimsical, the self-penned performance will include assists from Borstein’s muse and maestro, Barcelona-native musicians, Eric Mills and Salva Rey. It is the first special from the former Mad TV star.

“‘Maisel’ does nothing small,” admits production mixer Mathew Price with a laugh as he reflects on his latest Emmy nomination for the Amazon series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” He and re-recording mixer Ron Bochar celebrate the nomination this year — which they share with colleagues George A. Lara and Stewart Lerman — especially because of the challenges they faced while working during the pandemic. Even though there were new limitations, both mixers were amazed that the show continued to go big in terms of story, production, and the number of background performers rather than scale down. Watch our exclusive video interview.
Bochar and Price are nominated for sound mixing for the Season 4 finale, “How Do You Get to Carnegie Hall?.” Price shares that he thinks of this installment as “the best episode the show’s ever produced, dramatically.” He explains, “The drama and the emotion the show reaches is very real and earned.

Everything about season 4 of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” was bigger, from the sets to the drama and, of course, the music.
Returning songwriters Tom Mizer and Curtis Moore were tasked with creating a pastiche of sounds, including calypso, period-appropriate pop, a Broadway tune and several striptease numbers.
The two worked with the show’s music supervisor Robin Urdang to soundtrack Midge’s (Rachel Brosnahan) career pivot, trading Greenwich Village coffeehouses for a Manhattan burlesque club.
As Urdang explains: “We built upon the musical palette of the show using numerous hidden gems such as ‘Femininity’ from ‘Oh, Captain’ in the final dance sequence at the burlesque club.”
In an extension of how the show uses music, Urdang says they also created Mandarin-language versions of American standards to use in the Button Club’s jukebox, along with original songs written by Mizer and Moore for the wedding of closeted singer Shy Baldwin.

Veteran singer-songwriter Willie Nile is marking his 73rd birthday Monday, June 7th, with a new song, “Blood on Your Hands,” featuring Steve Earle.
“Blood on Your Hands” is a steady stomping rock cut that finds Nile and Earle trading searing verses about human nature’s more sinister qualities. “Blood on your hands, blood on your hands,” goes the chorus, “Can’t wipe it off with your one-night stands/Blood on your hands, blood on your hands/There’s little old ladies dying in the heartland.”

“Sound of Metal” has won the award for sound mixing in a live-action motion picture at the 57th annual Cas Awards, which were presented by the Cinema Audio Society in a virtual ceremony on Saturday.
The film beat three other Oscar nominees in the Best Sound category, “Greyhound,” “Mank” and “News of the World,” along with “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”
The Cas Awards winner has gone on to win the Oscar in the Best Sound Mixing category for the last three years in a row, and five times in the last decade. But this year the Oscars combined Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing into a single Best Sound category, so the Cas’ effectiveness at predicting the Oscars has yet to be determined.
On Friday, “Greyhound” won the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Award in the category that in the past most closely corresponded to the Oscars sound-editing award.

Each day on Loudon Wainwright III’s front yard, squirrels attack Donald Trump. Well, not exactly: Dangling by string from a tree on his front yard on the eastern tip of Long Island is a Trump squirrel feeder, a plastic head in the shape of a certain world leader that Wainwright stuffs with peanut butter to keep critters away from his house. “It works pretty well,” he says, “but I’m not sure what state the peanut butter is in now.”

Quarantine sure stoked the creative juices of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” team. Normally, they’d be busy working on a new season of “Maisel” at this point. But since they’re following Covid-19 stay-at-home orders, the show’s dancers, musicians, cast and crew instead put together a 10-minute music video.
The video, which Amazon Prime Video will share with all TV Academy members on Monday, was the brainchild of “Maisel” creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino, promotes the show’s Emmy For Your Consideration efforts but also doubles as a showcase to raise awareness and support for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, MusiCares, and Swans for Relief.
Shot in just three days, more than 60 people put this together. It opens with Ryan Farrell as Brye Adler, the host of “Miami After Dark.” Farrell filmed from his home in Brooklyn, which he redressed to match the show’s Miami aesthetic.

Last night, two important precursors for specific technical categories gave out their awards, helping to potentially inform how two Oscar fields may end up turning out. The pair of groups are the Cinema Audio Society, which ties into Best Sound Mixing at the Academy Awards, while the Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists Guild obviously ties into Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the Oscars. Did these results clear up any races? Well, they gave us some frontrunners, but I don’t think anything is locked up. Not with how this year has gone, at least. That being said, these were the expected outcomes yesterday, so take that into consideration as well. The Cinema Audio Society (or Cas) top prize went to Bohemian Rhapsody, taking the category of Live Action Motion Picture. The animated winner was Isle of Dogs, while the Documentary victor was Free Solo. This sets up Bohemian Rhapsody to...

In a surprise over heavy-hitters “Incredibles 2” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs” won the animated prize. “Free Solo” reigned in the documentary field.
TV winners included “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Mozart in the Jungle,” “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” and “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown.”

The cyclical nature of fashions and trends is baffling to some and fascinating to others. Who would have thought that in the year 2013, when many leading technologists believe that we are only a handful of years away from being able to purchase an entirely auto-piloted car, that our inclinations in terms of music and fashion would be more in line with those at the turn of last century.
And they are – there is no debating it. The fashion trend of the day clearly belongs to the Hipsters who blend vintage clothing from an array of different eras with oversized frames and modern footwear. There is, however, a style which is hard to blend due to the fact that its characteristics are so idiosyncratic and representative of that time that mixing them with apparel from other eras seems disrespectful and just plain wrong.
