Netflix’s cutbacks after a subscriber loss sent the streamer’s stock price tumbling down have worried some in the industry that the content gold rush is ending. Producers at the “IP Iq” panel, sponsored by Deadline, at the Produced By conference, said there’s no need to worry. Girl From Plainville and The Dropout Executive Producer Liz Hannah, A&e Studios Head Barry Jossen, and UTA partner and Co-head of Media Rights Jason Richman said they don’t anticipate any slowdown in streamers needing content.
“I haven’t felt any letup whatsoever, which I think just speaks to the demand being high,” Richman said. “There’s a lot of musical chairs going across the studio landscape, but it’s going to settle out. The new incumbents have to build their new slates. We look at it as opportunities to bring the artists we’re representing into their lives and filling the blank space.

Peacock’s “Joe Exotic” series had to get a bit exotic in its casting process to fit the real-life troupe of characters chronicled in Netflix’s “Tiger King” docuseries. Fortunately, with “Saturday Night Live” standout Kate McKinnon on board from Day 1 as Carole Baskin, the scripted streaming series was off to a very good start.
Then they landed Dennis Quaid, and, well, just ask your mom what she thinks about that choice to play Rick Kirkham. Better yet, ask Rick Kirkham, Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel’s reality TV show producer, what he thinks. However, Quaid had to step away from the role due to a scheduling conflict and was replaced with William Fichtner.
Based on the Wondery podcast “Joe Exotic,” hosted and reported by Robert Moor, the Peacock limited series will center on Carole Baskin, a big cat enthusiast, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit.

The Joe Exotic scripted series, starring Kate McKinnon and John Cameron Mitchell, is going to stream exclusively on Peacock.
NBCUniversal has reversed its decision, made last August, to air the series across its platforms including NBC and USA Network, opting instead to air solely on the streamer.
Deadline understands that the decision came after Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, who joined after the series was purchased, and her team saw scripts and heard more about the producers’ vision of the show, which is more suited to the streaming environment than traditional broadcast television.

The “Joe Exotic” series starring Kate McKinnon and John Cameron Mitchell will now air only on Peacock instead of on the streamer, NBC, and USA Network as originally planned.
The show received the multi-platform series order last year. According to an individual with knowledge of the production, the move comes as the multi-platform order was made prior to Susan Rovner assuming her role as chairman of entertainment content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. Now that Rovner and her team have seen more of the scripts, they decided the streamer was the best fit. It also comes as NBCU has reorganized its television business to place a clear emphasis on the company’s future streaming plans while deemphasizing the importance of certain cable networks in the NBCU portfolio in order to cut costs.

NBCUniversal has changed its plans for the upcoming “Joe Exotic” limited series, making the Kate McKinnon-led drama exclusive to Peacock.
The decision comes months after the show was first picked up to series as a multi-platform release, with plans for the show to run on NBC and USA in addition to Peacock. An individual familiar with the situation attributed the move to Susan Rovner, who was appointed head of scripted programming for NBCU in September, about a month after the show was picked up. The individual said early scripts did not reflect a broadcast tone and the show was deemed a better fit for streaming only.
Based on the Wondery podcast of the same name, “Joe Exotic” is a limited series based on true events following Carole Baskin (McKinnon), a big cat enthusiast, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel (John Cameron Mitchell) is breeding and...
