Celebrated singer-songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello is back with a new song, “Virgo.” The single will appear on her first album of all new material in nearly a decade, The Omnichord Real Book, out June 16 via Blue Note.
“Virgo” is a slinky, eight-minute jazz-soul epic that blends everything from disco guitar and plucky synths to atmospheric washes of sound and a bit of ethereal harp: “They’re calling me back to the stars,” Ndegeocello sings. “Deep outer space, they’re calling me.”

One of Facebook's green initiatives involves converting their software from one language to another. What makes one code greener than another?
Facebook, which is getting some negative PR on environmental issues, recently announced several green initiatives. Some of them are intuitive: getting employees to cut down on water usage, a shuttle bus, composting. Most intriguing, though, is one initiative to ensure that the very code written by Facebook's programmers is itself as green as possible, something achieved by converting Facebook's code from one language called Php to another called C++.
How can it be that one type of computer code is "greener" than another? And what is the greenest code?
Some programming languages are more energy efficient than others because they simply run faster. A program that can be executed faster reduces the load on a central processing unit, which in turn demands less energy from the massive data centers...

It looks like Rihanna is due to appear in her first film with news that she has signed on to star in Peter Berg's Battleship, according to Variety.
She will join Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgård in the film, with filming due to begin shortly. Written by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber and revised by Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the film is based on the legendary Hasbro board game but will branch out to be a battle across land, sea and sky as our planet fights for survival against an alien force.
Battleship is due for release in May 2012, so while it's still quite a long way off, the thought of Rihanna fighting for our planet's survival is rather alluring so we look forward to hearing more about the project.

From the team that brought us the critical and commercial failure that was Legion comes Priest, director Scott Stewart's adaptation of the TokyoPop manga series created by Hyung Min-wo, starring his Legion lead Paul Bettany.
In this dark and twisted thriller with a religious twist we are treated to a dystopian world of ruin where vampires and humans have been fighting a war for centuries. Unusually, our action-hero here is a priest (Bettany), who has decided to come out of retirement (all priests are fighters that have since retired after winning the war) in order to try and save his niece, who has been kidnapped by a bunch of rogue vampires. Priest is joined on his quest by a few friends, including the just as imaginatively named Priestess. You'll be grateful of the synopsis when you've watched the trailer, because it's really more of a visual thing than something that explains what's going on.

It's always nice to hear about an old friend doing well for himself, and this is just how we feel on hearing that Kevin Smith has declared at Comic-Con that Michael Parks has signed up to his new film, Red State.
Smith had previously promised that he would be casting .recognisable unknowns', and that's exactly what Parks is. He hasn't yet played a leading role yet but he's always popping up in smaller parts, and is known particularly for his role as Texan Ranger Earl McGraw, a part which he plays in several Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez movies, including Kill Bill. Now it looks like Red State is going to be his "big break", with rumours afloat that he is in line to take the lead.
Red State will centre on a controversial group akin to the Westboro Baptist Church, the organisation notorious for picketing Military funerals and for being overtly anti-homosexual.

We learnt from the first trailer for Red that Bruce Willis is to reprise his older man action-hero role à la Die Hard 4.0 (and still has a head that is the shape of an egg), Helen Mirren looks great as always (especially with a gun in her hand), John Malkovich is still as mentally unstable as ever (who also has a suprisingly egg-shaped head), and Morgan Freeman, well, Morgan Freeman still has a lovely soothing voice. The second trailer, released with the film's appearance at Comic-Con, tells us more of the same, and we honestly don't mind . it just looks like so much fun!
Based upon Warren Ellis' comics and directed by Robert Schwentke, Red is about a group of retired CIA detectives who know too much, and soon become hunted by other CIA detectives.
The main difference from the first trailer is that the visual feast our eyes...

The trailer for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is absolutely brilliant and now, thanks to MTV, we have another clip released at Comic-Con that's got us even more excited for the comedy of the summer.
Titled 'Hey!', it doesn't contain the jaw-achingly funny footage from the theatrical trailer, but then sometimes it's just too harsh to laugh at Michael Cera's wonderful but painful-to-watch awkwardness.
Directed by Edgar Wright, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is due in cinemas on August 25.

It looks like Marc Forster's World War Z is developing nicely as, according to MTV who has the news hot off the floor at Comic-Con, Brad Pitt is set to take the lead role.
The news comes from Max Brooks, the author of the comic book on which the movie is based, and he has also revealed that Paramount has secured the rights to two more of his creations, the graphic novels "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks". World War Z has had a difficult development history, with several changes including seeing Matthew Carnahan recently brought in to re-write the scipt that J. Michael Straczynski penned a while back, so this assertion of positivity from Brooks is encouraging.

The trailer for the upcoming film The Debt has been released, and thanks to Yahoo we are able to take a look at John Madden's Nazi-grabbing thriller, a remake of the 2007 film of the same name by Assaf Bernstein.
Starring Sam Worthington, Marton Csokas, Jessica Chastain, Ciarán Hinds, Tom Wilkinson and the indomitable Helen Mirren, it follows the story of three Mossad Agents who, 30 years after capturing and killing a Nazi, learn that their work is still unfinished. Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn are among those who wrote the screenplay, and from what we can see from the trailer, this might well be worth a trip to the cinema.
Apart from the occasional dodgy accent, it looks to be full of tension and intrigue, and everyone enjoys a good secret agent thriller, right? Take a look...

Thanks to Yahoo, we can see the first teaser trailer for Dwayne Johnson's upcoming thriller Faster.
Directed By George Tillman Jr. and written by Joe and Tony Gayton, the story centres on a man on a trail of redemption, and from what we can see, this could be a fun, fast-paced film with plenty of bite. There's a cool car, a dead guy, lots of shooting, and of course, your beautiful action heroine, so it ticks all the right boxes. Of course, it's only a teaser, so there's not so much to chew on, but it certainly hit the spot. What do you think?

Daniel Radcliffe is growing up fast. Not content with being one of the most recognisable faces on the planet, the young Brit seems dead set on taking the movie world by storm, with the latest news being that he is to star in the adaptation of Susan Hill's horror The Woman In Black.
He already has two films in the pipeline, one being a remake of the 1930's war film All Quiet On The Western Front and the other a biopic of Dan Eldon in The Journey Is The Destination, and now he's signed up to James Watkins' new film that has been written by Kick-Ass scribe Jane Goldman (Mrs. Jonathan Ross). All this after two massive productions in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2, not to mention his run in the Broadway musical of How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.

Harry Potter star Tom Felton is the latest member to be added to the cast of the Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Apes. He will play the son of Brian Cox, the villain of the piece who runs a primate sanctuary but cares little for the apes themselves.
Felton is just the latest star to sign up to Rupert Wyatt's highly anticipated film that will allegedly be a reality-based cautionary tale about a group of scientists that go too far and end up affording the primates advanced intelligence, something that provokes a fight for supremacy. James Franco, star of Spider-Man, is to play the lead, and John Lithgow and Don Cheadle have also been signed up. It seems that Roman Polanski is unaffected by recent controversies, unsurprising when one considers that this particular controversy has surrounded him for 33 years and he has had no problem with making films during that time. Indeed, according to the NY Daily News , the director has set his sights on a new film, an adaptation of Yasmina Reza's award-winning play God Of Carnage.
In fact, Polanski and Reza have been working on the screenplay together during the Oscar-winning director's house arrest in his chalet in the posh ski-resort of Gstaad in Switzerland, and the recent revelation that he will not be extradited to the Us to face trial for his allged crime has led to reports that he is wasting no time in staying out of the limelight.
The play is about two sets of parents who meet up to discuss a fight between their two respective children. The meeting itself then descends into chaos.

Teenage star Jennifer Lawrence is to play Mystique in Matthew Vaughn's upcoming film X-Men: First Class, according to The Hollywood reporter.
Lawrence, who recently earned rave reviews for her role in Winter's Bone joins an already star-studded cast that includes the likes of James McAvoy as Professor X and Kevin Bacon as the villain for the prequel that charts the early years of the mutants and the ensuing struggle between Professor X and Magneto (to be played by Michael Fassbender). After two deliciously enticing teasers (here and here), the theatrical trailer to David Fincher's The Social Network has been released to Yahoo! and is sure to garner yet more interest in this extremely well documented story about Mark Zuckerberg's founding of Facebook.
Actual footage from the movie has now been added to the two previous teasers that whetted the appetite previously, and with Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men, The West Wing ) having written the script, it's no surprise that the trailer about the biggest phenomenon since the introduction of sliced bread is rather dramatic. The use of the Belgian Scala & Kolacny Brothers choral version of Radiohead's Creep makes you feel like you are witnessing the end of the world, and with Jesse Eisenberg scribbling formulae on a window despite being at Harvard University, the one place where one would expect there to be ample paper, the scene has been set for an epic.

It seems that Pixar is revving up the launch of the sequel to Cars (Cars 2, of course) with the leakage of some ground-breaking (ish) news. As Pixar boss John Lasseter knows only too well, Cars made a fortune from merchandising rather than from the movie itself, and in an effort to squeeze yet more revenue out of the franchise, there is, according to Movieline, to be their first ever direct-to-video with a spin-off to Cars, the just as imaginatively named Planes.
The direct-to-video business, or the Dtv as we like to call it, is an extremely lucrative avenue that Pixar had intended to go down with the sequels to Toy Story before Lasseter realised that people would flock to the big screen in their millions to find out if Bo-Peep ever did manage to tie down the uncontrollable Woody. Indeed, the spin-off news is hardly surprising for a company...
