The annual awards show united the power of fashion and entertainment for positive transformation and champions interconnected cultural change and the most inspiring efforts that drive it. The selection of the yearly honorees is evaluated according to six cultural archetypes – The Visionary, The Messenger, The Rebel, The Healer, The Sage, and The Futurist. All eyes were on Zendaya as she stepped out in a flapper-esque vintage Roberto Cavalli dress at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards on Wednesday night at 1 Hotel’s Harriet’s in West Hollywood.
As co-chair of the event, which also drew Chrissy Teigen, Helen Hunt, Jennifer Coolidge, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, and Annie Lennox, Zendaya has long embraced vintage for red carpet appearances.
Most impressively, her last look — a chrome suit of armor from Mugler’s Fall Winter 1995 couture collection — reportedly generated $13.3 million in media exposure after wearing the piece to the Dune: Part Two premiere in London.
To mark this occasion, she rocked a silver roaring twenties-inspired gown from Cavalli’s spring 2011 collection. But the night was about much more than just sustainable sartorial selections.

Five years ago, with Beto O’Rourke mounting an electrifying campaign to unseat Ted Cruz from the U.S. Senate, Democrats seemed hopeful that the political winds were shifting in Texas to one day make it a purple state. He ultimately lost by 2.6 percent amid a record turnout for a mid-term election.
Since then, Democratic hopes for turning Texas into a swing state have diminished. In the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump made gains with Hispanic voters. And the state legislature has become increasingly conservative with a host of bills signed this year by Republican Governor Greg Abbott that include barring public universities from creating Dei offices, banning transgender athletes from college sports, and restricting labor rights. In 2022, abortion was banned in the state following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

A column chronicling conversations and events on the awards circuit.
The votes are in. The ballots are being counted. The clock is ticking toward Oscar Sunday (which also is the day the clock ticks ahead as daylight-saving time begins). This also means the party circuit is in full bloom, and if you wondered if anyone was still worried about Covid, as has been the case for the past two Oscar seasons due to the pandemic, well, think again. As evidence, the two celebrations I hit on Thursday night — one for the Australian Oscar nominees, the other for Irish nominees – were packed to the max, barely a mask in sight. And if anyone was worried, it seems they have decided to party hearty instead, at least until the hangover following this six-month awards season finally takes hold Monday morning.

In the midst of Oscar week, indigenous women, environmental activists and fashion changemakers were the stars of the show at Thursday night’s Green Carpet Fashion Awards (Gcfa), which was held for the first time in Los Angeles at NeueHouse Hollywood.
Led by Livia Giuggioli Firth (who re-wore a vintage black Alexander McQueen dress), founder of the Italy-based sustainability and communications consultancy Eco Age, the starry celebration honored environmental and social sustainability in fashion, entertainment and beyond.
Optimism was the driving force of the evening, starting with the vibrant LCD screen “carpet” displaying blooming botanical videos (designed by Stefan Beckman) that welcomed guests. (Gcfa’s new West Coast location narrowly missed the downpour that has dampened L.A. in recent weeks.)
“We’re living in a time of great challenges,” said Firth in her opening remarks, delivered with Ugandan environmental activist Vanessa Nakate and actor Taylor Zakhar Perez. Continued Nakate,...

Baz Luhrmann says it would be “an amazing historical moment” if Elvis cinematographer Mandy Walker were to triumph at Sunday’s Academy Awards. To quote Lizzo, “It’s been too long,” the filmmaker tells me last night at the Australian Oscar nominees soirée held in the Chateau Marmont’s penthouse suite.
The Elvis director reasons that a woman hasn’t won an Oscar for best cinematographer thus far because “the camera unit is just the last bastion of blokeyness and probably comes down to who do you want to have a beer with.”

Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge is an ongoing commitment to championing the beauty of wearing sustainable brands on red carpets. Now, the initiative — which has worked over the years with such stars as Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Lupita Nyong’o and Viola Davis — is releasing the Gcc Style Handbook in an effort to make sustainable dressing and styling as seamless as possible.
Geared toward Hollywood stylists and stars, the guide promotes four distinct avenues toward achieving environmentally conscious outfits: artisanal (looks from small businesses and local makers); bespoke (custom apparel that uses eco-friendly materials); vintage choices; and the re-wearing of dresses.
The guide can be found at greencarpetchallenge.com and it includes celebrity examples on stars including Zendaya (rewear), Zoe Saldana (vintage) and Emma Watson, who participated in the Green Carpet Challenge at the Met Gala in 2016 wearing a Calvin Klein gown made from recycled plastic bottles.

Colin Firth and his wife Livia Giuggioli are still going strong, despite the affair and stalking scandal that broke earlier this month. The couple made their first public appearance together at the Chopard Press Conference at Baselworld 2018 in Basel, Switzerland on Thursday alongside Julianne Moore. Livia hosted the Q & A event, in which Colin and Julianne discussed Chopard's latest initiative. The couple's public appearance Thursday comes just two weeks after Livia admitted to having a past affair with her alleged stalker. In a statement to E! News on March 9, the couple's rep addressed Livia's former romance with Marco Brancaccia. "A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the...

At the London premiere of Colin Firth's new film, The Mercy, he appeared with his wife of 20 years, Livia Giuggioli, on Feb 6. They appeared as solidly together as ever. So it came as a surprise when the Oscar-winning actor and the Italian film producer recently revealed that they've been struggling to put their marriage back together following a crisis. "A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate," their rep said in a statement. "During that time Livia briefly became involved with former friend [Marco] Brancaccia. The Firths have since reunited," the spokesperson added. The glamorous pair has one of the longer-lived marriages in Hollywood and Colin, 57, has acknowledged that they work hard at it. "You just navigate things on a daily basis," he said, adding, "We are crazy about each other." So while Colin and Livia, 48, have accused Italian journalist Brancaccia of carrying out "a...

Livia Giuggioli is a rather interesting woman that stands behind the scenes more often than not it would seem since her name is not so well known in comparison with her husband’s. That however seems to suit her as she thrives on her marriage and the time she spends with her family as well as the work she does in various areas that she happens to frequent. Her reputation is that of a woman that knows how to get things done more often than not and someone that doesn’t actively seek the spotlight. Some folks are happy just being where

Colin Firth and wife Livia Giuggioli’s marriage is solid despite last week’s revelation that Giuggioli had a romance with another man during a recent separation, sources tell People.
“These two have a solid commitment, are on the same level, and worked through it,” says a source. “They got back together, and things are fine. They have a good marriage.”
“It’s not uncommon for a marriage to go through periods where it seems stale, especially with children involved,” adds the source.
The couple, who wed in 1997, have two sons, 16-year-old Luca and 15-year-old Matteo.

Actress Meg Tilly has nothing but love for her famous ex.
Tilly was at the height of her career in the late ’80s and early ’90s when she met a then up-and-coming actor named Colin Firth on the Parisian set of their 1989 period piece, Valmont. The two fell madly in love, leaving Hollywood and moving to a secluded home near Vancouver to raise Tilly’s two young children, and having another son together named Will.
Five years later, the duo split up and Firth went back to England and on to a hugely successful career — which Tilly always knew would happen for him.

Standing in the spotlight alongside her movie star husband, Livia Firth rejects big labels to wear reclaimed fabrics. Now she's turning her hand to design
She is seen as the world's most glamorous champion of "eco style" and has been dubbed "the queen of the green carpet". Now Livia Firth is moving into design: last week she revealed she is working on a line for the online retailer Yoox's eco brand Yooxygen, in partnership with Reclaim To Wear, which helps designers recycle textile surplus and waste.
Upcycling – or remaking cast-off items into something different and better – is something of a Firth speciality. She first drew attention to Reclaim to Wear when she wore one of its 1950s strapless cocktail dresses in silver satin to the Venice film festival. For the Paris premiere of The King's Speech, starring her husband Colin Firth, she famously wore an outfit made of one of his old suits.
