The news broke last night that Mahershala Ali is in talks to star in Universal Pictures' upcoming Jurassic World reboot, seemingly leaving the status of Marvel Studios' long-planned Blade reboot up in the air.
Though we haven't had any official updates on the project, Jurassic World 4 is said to be gearing up for a mid-June shoot, which is also around the time Blade is (or was) expected to begin filming. So, it seems highly unlikely that Ali would be lining up this Jw role if he was still planning to play the Daywalker unless the MCU project has been hit with yet another delay - or has been cancelled altogether?

A major A-list star is in talks for a key role in Universal Pictures' upcoming Jurassic World movie, but if he signs on, it will leave a huge question mark over a long in-development Marvel Studios reboot.
THR reports that Marhershala Ali is negotiating to star in the fourth Jurassic World film alongside lead Scarlett Johansson. Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo are also on board in supporting roles, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Godzilla director Gareth Edwards is set to helm.
Production is said to be gearing up for mid-June in London... which is also around the time Blade is (or was) expected to begin filming.
The trade report doesn't mention Blade, but it seems highly unlikely that Ali would be lining up this Jw role if he was still planning to play the Daywalker - unless the MCU project has been hit with yet...

Hard as it may be to believe, it's been over four years since Marvel Studios first announced plans for a Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali during San Diego Comic-Con, and the project has been plagued by production woes ever since.
After going through a number of directors and writers, the project finally seemed to be back on track after a recent Production Weekly update claimed that shooting was set to commence this Fall, but it seems the movie has hit yet another bump in the road.
According to Daniel Richtman, a new writer is currently being sought to give the script another major overhaul - although he does note that Marvel has finally nailed down the overall story, and backs-up the earlier report that cameras are expected to roll later this year in Mexico or Brazil.
Apparently, a casting call has also gone out for a male main villain, but...

In the first issue of Marvel Comics' latest event series, Blood Hunt, superhumans with a connection to the Darkforce Dimension simultaneously lost control of their powers.
The eruption blacked out the sun, creating an eternal night which allowed vampires everywhere to launch a coordinated attack against humanity. Earth's Mightiest Heroes did their best to protect the innocent and control the chaos, only for The Avengers to be tricked into allowing the Bloodcoven, a group of super-powered vampires, into their headquarters.
Fleeing, The Avengers were forced to leave a badly injured Thor, Black Panther and the Scarlet Witch in the hands of their new enemies. The premise that makes up the plot of Wesley Snipesʼ Blade trilogy is an undisputed winner among all pop culture genres. Vampires and vampire hunters have been a fascination since the days of Bram Stokerʼs Dracula and it is no wonder that every other supernatural lore and mythology deals with the bloodsucking creatures of the night.

Pure intentions never come a long way when it comes to achieving stardom in Hollywood. John Wick star John Leguizamo seems to understand that but while the actor may hold a cynical view of the industry due to time spent behind the curtains, there exist some things (perhaps a movie role or odd jobs to pay oneʼs way through surviving as a struggling artist) that he imagines as simply being too awkward to be uttered in public.
John Leguizamo in To Wong Foo [Credit: Amblin/Universal Pictures]Now, sufficient time has passed in the life and career of Leguizamo to serve as a cushion for his criticism, whenever or wherever it may apply. Such a protective cushion frequently comes into use when the actor brings up his fellow co-stars in the industry and serves to spill some tea about their roles that some still view as divisive beyond reproach.

We've been hearing reports that original Blade star Wesley Snipes might be set to reprise the role for a few years at this stage, but when the news broke that Marvel Studios was developing a new movie with Mahershala Ali taking over as the Daywalker, Snipes donning the shades and swords again began to seem highly unlikely.
However, a recent rumor claimed that Snipes will return as Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point, and has "already signed to do some stuff" in the Multiverse.
Now, Snipes has shared a response via social media.

Marvel Comics released the first issue of Blood Hunt last Wednesday, with the event's opening chapter revealing how the vampire invasion of Earth begins.
With the world's Darkforce users being turned into portals which have blocked out the sun across the globe, vampires emerge from the shadows, feeding on humans and turning countless others.
The Avengers also found themselves outmatched and outgunned, with Black Panther and Thor both killed in a battle with a group of ultra-vampires known as the Bloodcoven.
In the issue's closing moments, Doctor Strange discovers a spell which will kill every vampire on Earth. It means eliminating some of his friends, but it's a sacrifice he's willing to make if it saves the planet.
Blade shows up and recaps what's happened, including the fact a vampire cult known as "The Structure" has enacted a plan which will allow them to finally make the world their own.

We've been hearing rumours for months that Wesley Snipes will return as Blade, and it was earlier this week that we learned the actor has indeed signed up for a future MCU appearance.
While X-Men and Spider-Man typically get the lion's share of credit for bringing superheroes back to theaters, Blade and Blade II arguably kickstarted the genre's return to prominence in the early 2000s. With that in mind, we find it easy to imagine Marvel Studios being keen to give Snipes the chance to bid farewell to the Daywalker after the disaster that was Blade: Trinity.
According to a rumour shared by scooper @MyTimeToShineH, Snipes has agreed to reprise his role as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine.
This makes more sense than the next Avengers movies as Mahershala Ali should have appeared in the Blade reboot by then. It's also worth remembering that Snipes and Ryan Reynolds have a history on screen.

The first issue of Marvel Comics' latest event series, Blood Hunt, hit stands today. However, it wasn't what we expected from a comic that's mostly promised to pit Earth's Mightiest Heroes against a seemingly endless vampire hoard.
It begins with the world's Darkforce users being turned into portals which have blocked out the sun across the globe. With that, vampires emerge from the shadows, feeding on humans and turning countless others.
The Avengers attempt to fend them off and, after he asks Miles Morales/Spider-Man for a favour, Blade reaches out to them with the promise of information capable of helping turn the tide. However, when his truck is teleported to their base, a group of ultra-vampires known as the Bloodcoven emerge instead.
They make short work of the team, either incapacitating or killing them. Black Panther and Thor both die, though the latter buys Captain America, Iron Man, Captain Marvel,...

While the MCU still reels from its anxiety-ridden Phase Four and gripes about the damage to its reputation, the studio manages to come up with the next best solution: the return of an old classic.

Mahershala Ali has been attached to the Blade reboot for what seems like almost an eternity now. The actor’s casting was received very well. Most importantly, he is not a new face to Marvel fans, since he played Cottonmouth in Luke Cage.
The actor is very well-respected in the industry, owing to his charming personality and acting chops. However, his turn as the Daywalker in the Marvel reboot is still up in the air, with the production yet to take off. If rumors are to be believed, the film looks set to make yet another change, thereby raising questions about Ali’s possible MCU debut.

Elden Ring is two years old already, and it still seems like it was released just yesterday. This is all thanks to its incredibly large world and painstakingly detailed lore that lore hunters are trying to uncover to this day. Its vibrant gameplay mechanics make sure this game stays fresh even if players are stepping into this world for the fourth or even fifth time.
And so, gamers who have been playing Elden Ring since its launch could not help but celebrate this game’s second anniversary in a special way. They took a bunch of never-before-seen screenshots from the Lands Between and started posting online, and slowly a whole world of fans came together to do the same.

Elden Ring is a game of different builds. If they understand this game better, every player out there would have a unique build of their own. And each of those builds would be very effective and allow them to make quick work out of numerous enemies. But sometimes, some gamers come with a build that makes things much better for them, like being able to kill Mohg in seconds, for instance.
A YouTuber has come up with a very similar build. And they have also suggested that players should try going for a strength build instead of dexterity for bleed damage. And this build seems somewhat effective, no doubt.
Here’s how one can create a powerful strength build.

Bethesda Softworks and Marvel Games have announced that they’re teaming up with Arkane Lyon – the company behind Deathloop and the Dishonored series – to create a “mature, single-player, third-person” video game based on the Marvel Comics hero Blade! The game is, fittingly, called Marvel’s Blade – and an announcement video can be seen in the embed above, setting up the idea and giving a glimpse at what the Blade character might be like in the game.
Bethesda notes that Arkane Lyon has just started development on the game, which will feature an original story with the studio’s signature immersive gameplay and world-class narrative. Marvel’s Blade game will take players to a quarantined section of Paris in the middle of a supernatural emergency. Vampires have emerged, terrorizing the city of lights and forcing Parisians to shelter inside their homes at night to wait for sunrise.

While we await the upcoming return of Blade to screens in 2025, Arkane Lyon (the dev behind Deathloop) is set to bring The Daywalker his own video game with the third-person action game, Marvel’s Blade. News is still forthcoming for the game, including a release date.
“In honor of Blade‘s 50th anniversary, we have found the perfect match for the Daywalker in Arkane Lyon, a studio of uncompromising artists who continually push the boundaries of game design and innovation,” said Marvel Games vice president and creative director Bill Rosemann in a press release. “In addition to their award-winning talent, it’s their personal passion and bold vision for our half-human, half-vampire iconoclast that makes this collaboration a perfect fit.”
“As a kid of mixed origins, I felt a special connection to Blade—a hero with a dual heritage himself,” says Arkane Studios Lyon game director Dinga Bakaba at The Game Awards.

Marvel has apparently been having a very, very hard time rebooting Blade into the MCU, which is kind of strange when you think about it. I mean, how hard is it to crack Blade? The character is pretty simple! He looks cool, he has cool weapons, and he kills vampires. That's it, really. It's not that complicated. And yet, Kevin Feige and company continue to struggle with the project, which is set to star Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role of the Daywalker. The project, along with Ali's casting, was first announced in 2019, and it's apparently been all downhill since then.

Wesley Snipes’ Blade from 1998 was a big moment for the Marvel brand. The film breathed new life into the legendary comic label as the company was facing uncertainty in its future. Blade was more of an obscure character that many didn’t recognize nearly as much as Spider-Man or X-Men. However, its crossover appeal with the vampire element, as well as Snipes being one of the 90s biggest action heroes, the first film in the series became the first successful film in the company.
Flash forward to today and Marvel is now a Hollywood institution, and to an extent, its own sub-genre. There are many different connotations that can be implied when people refer to a “Marvel movie.” Things are about to come full circle as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been preparing to integrate the vampire hunter into the newest phase. Rapper Travis Scott is one person who is eager for the new interpretation.

Sony is in the bad guy business. Since the studio lent out Peter Parker to the MCU, despite owning the right to make movies about Spider-Man, Sony has tried to construct its own shared universe around the wall-crawler’s sinister foes. Thus far, the results have been mixed. Venom and its sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage found an audience for their zany rom-com takes on the symbiote, while Morbius inspired memes instead of box office receipts.

Mia Goth is having quite the moment. Between the success of her character from Ti West's horror movies (1980s-set trilogy-capper Maxxxine just kicked off filming) and her scene-stealing turn in Infinity Pool, she's in demand and crushing it. Which has somewhat naturally put her on Marvel's radar, and she's landed a role in Blade opposite Mahershala Ali.
This being a Marvel movie, there are zero details on her character yet, nor do we know if she'll be on the heroic side, the villainous side, or somewhere in between.
Ali will play the titular Daywalker, a human-vampire hybrid thanks to his mother being bitten and killed by a blood-sucker during childbirth. A Marvel comics staple since the 1970s, he was most famously brought to screens by Wesley Snipes across three movies before the MCU was even in existence.

There was disappointment back in September when we learned that Mogul Mowgli director Bassam Tariq had departed the MCU take on Blade, with Mahershala Ali starring as the Daywalker. But after Team Marvel hit pause on the film and shifted the release date to allow a proper search for his replacement, a filmmaker has been found: '71 and Lovecraft Country director Yann Demange is taking the job.
While Tariq's departure had been chalked up to scheduling issues, it now appears he had the infamous creative differences with the studio. And after reports of script issues, Michael Starrbury, who earned an Emmy nomination for an episode of Ava DuVernay’s drama When They See Us, is on board to overhaul the screenplay. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the tone is dark and gritty.

As recently reported, Marvel Studios has tweaked a good-sized chunk of its upcoming release schedule, shifting the release dates of five confirmed movies and taking one unannounced one off the calendar for now. The films that are moving include some biggies like Fantastic Four and Avengers: Secret Wars, but the whole thing – because any MCU moves tend to have a domino effect – seemed to start with the studio’s reboot of Blade being shot out of its November 2023 berth all the way to September 2024.
That was precipitated by the departure of director Bassim Tariq from the project, less than two months before production was scheduled to start, along with reports that the film’s screenplay needed quite a bit of work. Clearly Blade – which was first announced way back in July 2019 when star Mahershala Ali walked onstage wearing a hat bearing the movie’s title – is in a bit of a rough spot right now.

Kevin Feige knows how to give a spectacular presentation. But one of his most memorable moments was at the end of the 2019 MCU panel at Comic-Con, when Feige interrupted what appeared to be a closing celebration to bring out Mahershala Ali. The Academy-Award-winning actor simply put a hat on his head as the lights dimmed and a one-word logo appeared on-screen: Blade.
Since that moment, anticipation has only grown, from original Blade actor Wesley Snipes offering his support for the project, to the exciting additions of Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre to the cast. Not even a baffling post-credit sequence to Eternals, in which Blade’s voice can be heard warning Dane Whitman against removing the Ebony Blade, could diminish the excitement.
However, some recent news might raise eyebrows, as director Bassam Tariq has stepped away from the project just weeks before filming was to begin. According to the Variety article reporting the move,...

Among the more exciting bits of news at the 2022 D23 Expo was a trailer for Werewolf by Night. A one-off Halloween special coming to Disney+ on October 7, Werewolf by Night not only brings a cult Marvel character to live-action, but it also serves as the directorial debut of Michael Giacchino, the Academy Award-winning composer who wrote the scores for Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Batman, and more.

Although he’s since received to the background, Russell remains a fan favorite in the comics. And if the trailer for Werewolf by Night is any indication,...

Everyone’s favorite half-vampire is returning to theaters next year. Marvel Studios’ “Blade” will premiere Nov. 3, 2023.
The news was announced out of Marvel Studio’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday evening. The announcement carries a nice bit of symmetry, as the “Blade” reboot was first announced at the 2019 Comic-Con — the last time that fans gathered together in-person for a convention of this size.
Three years ago, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige surprised Hall H by bringing out Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali. In an exceedingly coy move, all Ali did was put on “his own” hat with the “Blade” logo. Boom — a new Daywalker was born.
Since then the action film has bulked up its cast, adding Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo to the mix, though there’s no official word yet on their roles. Bassam Tariq is set to direct “Blade,” while Stacy Osei-Kuffour serves as screenwriter.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sdcc, heck, even this site! None of it would exist without Wesley Snipes. Before he took on the role of C-list vampire hunter Blade for the 1998 movie directed by Stephen Norrington, the only successful superhero movies featured Batman or Superman, and those franchises were on the downswing. The only previous Marvel movie released in theaters was 1986’s notorious flop Howard the Duck. Most Marvel properties were substandard direct to VHS releases, such as the Punisher movie starring Dolph Lundgren and missing a skull logo, or embarrassing tv movies, especially Nick Fury: Agent of Shield with David Hasselhoff in the title role.
With Blade, Snipes and his effortless poise transformed the tired superhero genre into something exciting, vibrant, and cool. Despite the disastrous and controversial Blade: Trinity, fans have long been clamoring for Snipes to return to the genre and join the MCU. Most expected him to...

Vampires beware: Blade is heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, Eric Brooks debuted in "Tomb of Dracula" #10 in 1973, though that version of the character is drastically different than the one most fans would recognize. Eric's mother was slaughtered by a vampire during his birth, which transformed him into a Dhampir: not fully a monster, but no mere mortal either. Referred to by many as the Daywalker, Eric made it his life's mission to hunt vampires. Having their strengths, but not their weaknesses, it's a task he was uniquely suited for.

Although Bryan Singer’s X-Men might take the lion’s share of the credit for rejuvenating and revitalizing the comic book genre after Batman & Robin almost killed it entirely, Stephen Norrington’s Blade also had a huge part to play. After all, most high profile superhero movies tended to be geared towards family audiences and largely played it safe until Wesley Snipes’ Daywalker came along.
Arriving a year before The Matrix turned leather, sunglasses and kung fu into action cinema’s aesthetic of choice, Blade was a breath of fresh air for a style of filmmaking that was on life support, combining the standard tropes of the genre with some phenomenally choreographed fight sequences, R-rated violence and visual effects that were hugely impressive for the time.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade reboot was the surprise announcement of last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, but ever since then we’ve received virtually nothing about the project besides frequent teases of how leading man Mahershala Ali could look in the title role. There’s still no release date, no director, no writers and no other cast members attached except the two-time Academy Award winning actor.
However, because this is a high-profile McU movie we’re talking about, there’s been plenty of rumors and speculation making the rounds about how Blade could cross over with the rest of the franchise and big name stars being eyed to play the villain, not to mention a possible return for original Blade Wesley Snipes in a cameo role.

Despite Marvel’s panel at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con ending with the huge reveal that two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali would be headlining the McU’s Blade reboot, the project has been virtually radio silent ever since, bar the actor frequently teasing his potential look as the franchise’s new version of the Daywalker on social media.
Ali himself remains the only talent officially attached, meaning that it could be a while yet before we see Blade return to our screens, even though Marvel have several release dates throughout 2022 and 2023 remaining unoccupied. Despite the lack of official news though, there’s no doubt that the pieces are starting to be put together behind the scenes, and with ten McU movies now having directors attached and Captain Marvel 2 recently hiring Nia DaCosta, we might not be too far away from some official updates on cast and crew members.

When you think of actors playing comic book characters, your mind tends to instantly jump to the ones that played the same role for a number of years that have become inextricably linked with the part, like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine or Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. However, more than a few names have dabbled in the genre multiple times, and it isn’t exactly surprising that the results were more than a little hit-or-miss.
Brandon Routh is still best known for playing the title hero in Superman Returns, which he would eventually reprise in the Arrowverse’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” despite already having starred as Legends of Tomorrow’s Ray Palmer. Outside of the world of DC though, he also played a supporting role in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and took the lead in 2011’s forgotten box office bomb Dylan Dog: Dead of Night.

Ryan Reynolds may be killing it as Deadpool nowadays, but as we all know, his comic book movie career wasn’t always so successful. He initially played Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, possibly the worst entry in Fox’s X-franchise, and also starred as Hal Jordan in DC’s failed 2011 Green Lantern film. Of course, Reynolds has poked fun at himself in the Deadpool movies with references to both of these productions. But now, the Merc with a Mouth’s latest comic book appearance goes even further, and calls back to Reynolds’ debut turn in the superhero world that’s often overlooked.

Inspired in part by 15th-century Wallachian Prince Vlad the Impaler, Count Dracula first appeared as the prototypical vampire in Bram Stoker’s 1897 epistolary novel Dracula. Alternately played on film over the last century by, among others, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr. Christopher Lee, Gary Oldman, Gerard Butler and Dominic Purcell, the character was most recently portrayed by Luke Evans in Gary Shore’s 2014 dark fantasy original story Dracula Untold, which was intended to be the first installment of the interconnected Dark Universe franchise of horror films.

The internet was sent into a frenzy at last summer’s San Diego Comic-Con with the surprise reveal that two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali was set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a reboot of Blade. Marvel president Kevin Feige has been asked about the chances of Blade arriving in the McU many times and, though he’s never ruled it out, nothing seems to be happening on that front yet. Perhaps it’s because the Daywalker’s too dark a character to work on the big screen. Maybe he needs a gritty TV series, in the vein of say – oh, I don’t know – The Punisher.
