Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch shows the difficulties of crab fishing on the Bering Sea. Through 19 seasons of the show, fans have seen injuries and deaths occur on the crab boats — and the F/V Cornelia Marie was no stranger to this. Here’s a ranking of the worst injuries on the Cornelia Marie.
5. A crewmember sprained his ankle after getting hit with 80,000 gallons of water
One Deadliest Catch crew member aboard the Cornelia Marie experienced multiple injuries while fishing. One such injury occurred while the boat attempted to outrun an ice pack. The weather conditions were extremely difficult for the crew, thus creating unsafe conditions.
Ultimately, Taylor, one of the crew members dealing with the crab pots in the harsh weather, was tossed across the deck by 80,000 gallons of water. He sprained his ankle and couldn’t continue working for the evening.
Captain Casey McManus commented on the boat entering the rough waters.

It's not his dangerous job that has taken Captain Keith Colburn out of commission — it's a nasty infection. So what happened to Keith on Deadliest Catch, exactly? Read on for the unnerving details… As Keith revealed in the June 5 episode of the reality show's 14th season, he has osteomyelitis — a severe bacterial infection — in his spine. "My back is all f--ked up," he told his crew. He also said his vertebrae look like they've been doused in battery acid. According to the Mayo Clinic, infections can reach the bone through the bloodstream or from nearby tissue. Osteomyelitis was once considered incurable, but these days it can be successfully treated with surgery and intravenous antibiotics. Sure enough, Keith has to have antibiotics injected intravenously every day and thus can't join the other guys on the high seas this season. In his lieu, he named his brother, Monte Colburn, as captain. "I'm...

On tonight’s Deadliest Catch season finale, a generator on the Summer Bay fails in giant seas — leaving Captain “Wild Bill” Wichrowski powerless to control the vessel as huge waves slam it from all sides. At one point a massive surge hits the side of the vessel, smashing into the cockpit and sending water pouring in through the window as Captain Bill is thrown out of his seat. The incident happens as he battles 20ft waves and 50-knot winds while struggling to finish his season. It took place not long after the sinking of the F/V Destination crabbing boat — which was found...read more...

The Wizard and Captain Keith Colburn get no breaks tonight as Deadliest Catch sees deckhand Crosby Leveen nearly dragged under the boat. Strong ocean currents generate immense downward pressure on the pots, which creates a hazardous situation when the buoys they are attached to are hooked and pulled on board, and then reset. The unpredictable speed at which they are sucked into the water presents a serious hazard for the crew. Our exclusive clip below shows how Crosby almost gets tangled in one of the ropes and is nearly zip-lined across the deck and pulled over the side of the...read more...

Deadliest Catch channels Star Wars tonight on Discovery — as a fierce snowstorm makes Captain Keith Colburn’s job “like trying to fish while doing lightspeed”. Caelan had a severe case of seasickness, violently vomiting as he tried to complete his first day’s work.
