ABC is heading off into the national parks, only this time without Kevin Costner. The Disney-owned network has handed a pilot order to its untitled national parks project, which comes from A+E Studios.
Rashad Raisani, an exec producer on Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star, is writing and exec producing a brand new take. The news comes after the network passed on the Costner co-penned and exec produced version in July 2021.
2022 ABC Pilots & Series Orders
The series is a “soapy” procedural set in the world of national parks. It revolves around the tangled, messy lives of the agents who work for the Isb — an elite law-enforcement unit responsible for solving all serious crimes that occur in our country’s 81,000 square miles of protected land.
Raisani, who began his career on USA Network’s Burn Notice, where he rose from staff writer to co-exec producer, will exec produce with A+E Studios’ Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson.

ABC believes that its year-round development cycle will mean that it can give creators of pilots such as Kevin Costner’s National Parks and Epic from Once Upon a Time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis a better shot of landing on the schedule.
The Disney-owned network still has a number of pilot projects in various states of production and ABC chief Craig Erwich told Deadline that it will “continue to evaluate” these dramas.
This comes after it handed series pickups for the 2021/22 broadcast season to pilots The Wonder Years, Queens, Maggie and Abbott Elementary and passed on pilots including Sam Esmail’s Acts of Crime and comedies Black Don’t Crack and Bucktown.
Erwich said crime drama National Parks, which the Yellowstone star co-wrote with Aaron Helbing and Jon Baird, is still in editing, while romantic anthology Epic, which stars Brittany O’Grady, Sarah Hyland and Eleanor Fanyinka, and Matt Lopez...

It’s been a busy day at ABC.
The network has handed series pickups to pilots The Wonder Years, Queens, Maggie and Abbott Elementary and passed on pilots including Sam Esmail’s Acts of Crime and comedies Black Don’t Crack and Bucktown.
But there are five pilots that are still in consideration for the 2021-22 broadcast season, including Kevin Costner’s National Parks Investigation, that will be considered for midseason.
These also include Dark Horse, Epic, Promised Land and Triage.
Dark Hose, Epic and Promised Land have yet to be filmed and will be considered after the upfronts, while the off-cycle Triage pilot was produced and went through a rollercoaster ride of a poorly received first cut, highly testing second cut and so-so screening response. National Parks Investigation was considered a wildcard for fall consideration but a final, broadcast-length cut of the pilot, was not delivered in time.

Five years ago today, One Tree Hill alum Shantel VanSanten made her debut on The CW’s The Flash, as Ccpd officer Patty Spivot. Yet despite being built up as a love interest for CSI Barry Allen, and thus the third side to a triangle involving Iris, Patty wound up gone in a veritable flash, bum-rushed onto an outbound train midway through Season 2.
While speaking with TVLine recently about her turn on another (and very different) superhero show, Amazon’s The Boys (where she plays Butcher’s ex-wife Becca), VanSanten shared that her time on The Flash was cut short by an irritated showrunner.

History has canceled two of its scripted series, “Knightfall” and “Project Blue Book,” TheWrap has learned. Both shows aired two seasons on the network.
The decision comes as the channel’s only other scripted series, the long-running “Vikings,” is set to end with the second half of Season 6 later this year. However, according to an individual familiar with the matter, History is not looking to exit the scripted programming space, and the network does have additional scripted projects in the pipeline that have not yet been announced.
“Knightfall” wrapped its two-season run on the network last spring. Led by Tom Cullen, the series examined medieval politics and warfare of the Knights Templar, the most powerful, wealthy and mysterious military order of the Middle Ages. “Star Wars” star Mark Hamill joined the cast for Season 2.
The show, created by Don Handfield and Richard Rayner, was produced by A+E Studios, The Combine and Midnight Radio.

Project Blue Book fans will be left with a few questions after History cancelled the Aidan Gillen-fronted drama.
The second season of the UFO drama ended on March 24 with Gillen’s Dr. Allen Hynek searching for his colleague Capt. Michael Quinn, played by Michael Malarkey, who was evidently blown to bits by an underwater explosion.
However, the A+E Networks’ cable network has opted not to pursue a third season of the show.
The show was created by David O’Leary, who served as writer and executive producer alongside writer-showrunner Sean Jablonski, Zemeckis, Jackie Levine and Barry Jossen.
Produced by A+E Studios and Compari Entertainment, Project Blue Book is inspired by the personal experiences of Dr. J. Allen Hynek (Gillen), a brilliant college professor recruited by the U.S. Air Force to spearhead this clandestine operation — Project Blue Book — that researched thousands of cases, more than 700 of which remain unsolved to this day.

The History Channel has released the full trailer for Knightfall Season 2 and it gives us our best look yet at what’s in store for the series. It also offers us a much better look at the old medieval Knights Templar warrior character that Mark Hamill plays in the show, and as you’ll see, this was an awesome role for him to take on!
Knightfall stars Tom Cullen and it goes "inside the medieval politics and warfare of the Knights Templar, the most powerful, wealthy and mysterious military order of the Middle Ages who were entrusted with protecting Christianity’s most precious relics. Knightfall goes deep into the clandestine world of this legendary brotherhood of warrior monks to learn who these knights were, how they lived, and what they died believing."

Mark Hamill, who will debut March 25 in Season 2 of History’s medieval drama Knightfall, came to TCA to explain he had no intention of making the commitment until watching episodes and getting hooked.
Hamill plays Talus, the battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran of the Crusades who survived a decade of captivity in the Holy Land and is tasked with training new initiates to the Order.
“I’ve never done a character quite like this before – a religious zealot and man of conviction” who teaches initiates they are “god’s executioners,” which Hamill said brought to mind the 5th Commandment “though shalt not kill.”
Aaron Helbing, who has taken over the reins of Knightfall as Season 2 showrunner and Ep, told TV critics that Season 1 was the peaceful season; Season 2 will be about “brotherhood, redemption…and revenge.”
Embracing “grittiness and medieval brutality” lends itself to “great cinematic scope,” he explained.

When Mark Hamill joined Season 2 of History’s “Knightfall,” he swapped his long-held lightsaber for a Medieval sword. But he didn’t switch completely from one world to another, seeing as the themes in the drama series are similar to those explored in “Star Wars.”
And yes, Hamill is aware that the Knights Templar — the group he’s entering for the Tom Cullen-led drama — were part of what inspired George Lucas’ Jedi — a group he’s all too familiar with due to his decades of playing Luke Skywalker in the franchise.
Hamill was asked during the Television Critics Association press tour Sunday if the “connection” between the Knights Templar and the Jedi created “any hesitancy for you in taking on this role or is that something you thought of at all.”
“Not until after I accepted.

History’s drama series “Knightfall” will return with its second season — which includes Mark Hamill — on Monday, March 25 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt, A + E Studios announced during the Television Critics Association press tour Sunday. But if you can’t wait that long to see Hamill trade in his lightsaber for a Medieval sword, you’re in luck, because History also dropped the Season 2 trailer.
The 2-minute, 16-second video teases Hamill’s debut as Talus, a battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran and initiate master who is tasked with preparing the next generation of men to proudly wear the red cross on their chests and become “God’s Executioners.” Based on the trailer, it seems Talus oscillates between giving out sage advice, and punching people.

Mark Hamill is about to go all medieval on your screen. Here’s the first teaser for Season 2 of History’s Knightfall, in which the erstwhile Luke Skywalker plays a battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran of the Crusades who survived a decade of captivity in the Holy Land and is tasked with training the new initiates to the Order.
Season 2 introduces the relationship between Hamill’s Talus and Landry (Tom Cullen). The master has a moral conflict about the courageous and headstrong Landry, who was left grief-stricken but hopeful at the end of the first season. The sword is the symbol that unites and divides the brotherhood this season, and its flames foreshadow what is to come for the Templars on Friday the 13th.

The odds of Mark Hamill returning to play Trickster on the upcoming season of The Flash are low, and executive producer Todd Helbing knows exactly why. Helbing explained that he ended up losing Hamill this season to his brother Aaron, who currently has Hamill locked down for his History series Knightfall (via TVLine):
We always want to get Mark Hamill back, but my brother [Aaron Helbing] stole him for [History']s Knightfall. We'll see what happens. We may to have to arm wrestle for him!
Todd Helbing didn’t explicitly confirm we won’t see Hamill at all in Season 5, but it would seem that any appearance at this point would have to happen sometime late in the season. I’ve been a fan of Hamill’s episodes on The Flash, so I’m hoping we do see him again at some point, if not this season. Are you excited...

One of the best treats of The Flash‘s debut season was the return of the legend that is Mark Hamill as the Trickster, the same character he played twenty years before in the 1990s Flash TV show. The role offered a chance for the actor to basically do his Joker in live-action and he followed it up by making cameos in the second and third seasons.
Unfortunately, because he’s such a busy guy, he didn’t make it into last year’s season 4, but does that mean that we’ve seen the last of the Trickster on The CW show, or is there a chance that Hamill could reprise the role again in the future? Almost seven months after last airing an original episode, Knightfall has finally been picked up for a second season.
History has renewed the medieval drama, while simultaneously bringing in some new blood. Mark Hamill joins in a recurring role, while Aaron Helbing comes on board as the new showrunner.
The renewal for Knightfall comes after a solid freshman run in the winter, one that saw live-plus-3 viewership average over 2 million episodic viewers. After a long silence and many rumors, History Channel has given the official green light to Knightfall season 2. Following in the tradition of its highly successful period drama, Vikings, the History Channel introduced another historical fiction series in Knightfall, capturing the political intrigue of the Crusades and the Knights Templar who sought the holy grail during the Middle Ages.
“In the face of ever-increasing competition, we’re proud of History’s track record of producing signature drama series that are epic in scope with complex characters,” said Eli Lehrer, Executive Vice President of Programming at History Channel. “Whether it’s the legendary Knights Templar, the extraordinary tale of medieval Norsemen, or the story of a formerly classified United States Air Force program investigating UFOs during the Cold War,...

Aside from being treated to a nifty Cheetah teaser last night, The Flash shocked us all by doing the unthinkable – killing off Iris West, the series’ female lead and longtime lover of the Scarlet Speedster in the comics. I mean, the entire season had been building to this and Team Flash did all they could to avert it, but did any of us really think the producers would actually pull the trigger? Don’t raise your hands all at once.
As we were saying, Savitar actually succeeded in impaling Iris in the closing moments of “Infantino Street,” which came as double the surprise because you’d think that something such as this would be saved for the season finale. It makes us question just what’s going to happen next week.

Although we still have a week to go until the much anticipated season finale of The Flash featuring the big showdown with Savitar arrives, tonight’s installment looks no less intriguing. Sure, much excitement is usually to be expected when a season of television begins winding down, but when you factor in Captain Cold’s return, well, the next few hours can’t pass quickly enough.
While the reason for Leonard Snart’s return has been known for weeks now (Barry Allen needs his help in retrieving an alien power source guarded by King Shark at Argus), the parameters of just how he’s able to show up have remained a mystery – until now, that is.
In a recently released featurette, executive producer Aaron Helbing takes us on a guided tour of tonight’s episode and, in doing so, confirms our suspicion that the Scarlet Speedster continues to honor the...

With only three episodes remaining in the current season of The Flash, the network has elected to spoil us this week, first with a sizzle reel teasing what’s to come and now with a featurette delving into what to expect from tonight’s episode.
In the past seven days, the series’ creative minds have had to deal with various questions pertaining to the unmasking of Savitar and what the future Barry Allen’s motivation may be. Well, according to executive producer Aaron Helbing, everything we want to know will be “revealed within the first five minutes of the episode.” Hey, at least they’re not going to keep us waiting any longer.
From there, Team Flash will make a bold attempt at wiping Barry’s short term memory so that Savitar remains clueless as to how they’ll defeat him. And, as we can see in the footage provided,...
