True Conviction screens Sunday, November 5th at 4:00pm at Washington University’s Brown Hall (Forsyth Boulevard and Chaplin Drive – two blocks west of Skinker Boulevard) as part of this year’s St. Louis International Film Festival. In attendance will be the film’s subject Christopher Scott as well as Antoinette (Annie) Grier, project manager of Washington U.’s Smart Decarceration Initiative at the Center for Social Development of the George Warren Brown School of Social Work. This is a Free event.
Christopher Scott was released from prison after serving 13 years of a life sentence for a murder he didn’t commit. That nightmare scenario is far too common: More than 30 people like Chris have been exonerated in Dallas County, Texas. Most of them are black men locked up in their youth who emerged in middle age looking for a way to make sense of what happened. One day, at a support-group meeting for exonerees,...

Top Chef is back for its 15th season and we’re not sure what looks more inviting: the food or the backdrop.
In a sneak peek at the new season filmed in gorgeous Colorado, host Padma Lakshmi, head judge Tom Colicchio, and judges Gail Simmons and Graham Elliot welcome 15 new contestants to step up to the stove. The chefs will travel across Denver, Boulder, Telluride and Aspen for challenges like a snowy campfire cook-off and a cauldron cooking competition at the Food & Wine Classic.

Jamie Meltzer’s True Conviction explores a quasi-detective agency in Dallas (seemingly run out of the the Hickory House BBQ restaurant) founded by three men who were wrongfully convicted of crimes they did not commit. Granted $80,000 for each year of wrongful imprisonment by the government, they take on select cases that resemble their own circumstances where either the punishment does not fit the crime or the physical evidence contradicts the testimony given. The justice system should backstop flawed cases but often does not, and in one case, we learn a convict was given a public defender who showed up in court drunk and could not locate a witness in the room.
Led by Christopher Scott, exonerated after spending 13 years in prison for a crime he did not commit once the actual killer confessed, the agency takes on similar cases as Scott balances his obligations to his once estranged family. He...

If So You Think You Can Dance is lucky enough to be renewed for Season 13, I nominate Vanna White to replace Jason Derulo at the judges’ table.

It makes sense, yo! After all, what more does Pervy McBlankeyes do each week than follow fellow panelists Paula Abdul and Nigel Lythgoe in revealing coded messages — consonant by vowel by consonant by vowel — telling the audience which contestants will be sent to the guillotine (and which ones have been tabbed as the Chosen Ones) by episode’s end?...

While Tiff has become film premiere terrain for his last director outings (the horribly timed post 9/11 released The Grey Zone and 2009′s Leaves of Grass), Tim Blake Nelson could be deemed as a return customer in Sundance folklore. His stacked resume at Sundance includes his first three premiered and/or workshopped outings (includes his short Kansas), and he is rooted at the Institute, being a Creative Advisor in the Directors Lab on four separate occasions. Employing the mapped out ensemble narrative strategy for his fifth feature film, the multi-tasker called upon a team of fellow thesps in Gretchen Mol, Corey Stoll, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jessica Hecht, Hannah Marks, Glenn Close, Scott Cohen, Sam Waterston and team captain Kristen Stewart (see pap pic above) for Anesthesia. Production on the New York City set drama began late last year, so despite turning into James Franco’s muse (five straight feature films) he...

Tonight's finale show, kicked off with an introduction of the judges by host, Cat Deeley. Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Tara Lipinksi, Adam Shankman, and Debbie Allen were guest judges. Then the top 20 dancers returned to perform a group number to the song, "Doctor Jazz," choreographed by Warren Carlyle. After that, they filled up about an hour and a half or so with dance numbers from the judge's choice, along with choices from various other people, including host, Cat Deeley. At one point, mega stars Enrique Iglesias and Sean Paul, hit the stage to perform their song, "Bailando." After that, they revealed that poor Zack Everhart, Jr. landed in 4th place. Next, the performances continued until it was time to bring on the The Top 10 and the All-Stars to perform a routine to "Sweet Disposition," choreographed by Christopher Scott and Sonya Tayeh. Next, the Dance Crew winner The Wanted Ashiqz, hit the stage to deliver a dynamic performance.

So the big Emmys don't air until next Sunday night and at Moviefone we will have, of course, full coverage. But last night the Creative Arts Emmys were handed out, for the people that are largely responsible for making these shows that you absolutely love -- you know, the behind-the-scenes talent tasked with conceptualizing and realizing your favorite programs. Oh -- and some guest actor and actresses awards were handed out, so there's that too!
In the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category Uzo Aduba took home the prize for "Orange is the New Black." Since we are, very shamefully, one of a handful of Americans who hasn't seen a single second of "Orange in the New Black," this doesn't mean a whole lot to us, but we are very happy for her! (We promise, we'll watch soon.) For the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, the...

We're down to the top ten, and this season is getting much, much harder to read due to the level of talent this season. Usually there are a few dancers squeaking through on great backstories and arresting person style (mohawk, cough, cough, ear plugs, cough). This season, even the remaining tap dancer and hip hop dancer are strong in other styles. Of course, having too many favorites is a problem I can handle. We kick things off with a creative Chris Scott routine, Debbie Allen is our guest judge (yay!) and we've got All-Stars, people! All-Stars! All-Stars that we'll see soon...

It’s a been a few years since the High School Musical franchise finally came to an end, which means it’s high time Disney found a new musical movie to turn into a hot commodity. We’ve already seen high school turned into a musical, so what could we do next? How about a callback to all the classic beach-party movies of old? Nothing says “appropriate for all ages” like teenagers singing and dancing at the hot, sunny beach in nothing but their bathing suits. That’s a lot of sex appeal Disney will have to curb. Amazingly, they might have done the trick without much effort.

The holidays are a time for giving, and YouTube is doing its part to keep up the Yuletide spirit. The Vlogbrothers have raised over $441,000 with Project For Awesome, but they aren't the only philanthropists in the online video world. DS2DIO, the dance channel started by Justin Bieber: Never Say Never director Jon M. Chu and producer Hieu Ho, is releasing four holiday videos, each one featuring a choreographer, a YouTube star, and a charity to which DS2DIO will donate $5,000. Ho explained how the holiday video series came to be: "In the spirit of the holidays, Jon and I wanted to do something to help give back... and we thought it would be fun to gather some of our friends and fellow YouTubers to spread a little joy through dance, while bringing attention to organizations that are really making a difference. And lucky for us, our friends happen to...

Some people find a hobby they’re so good at and talented in growing up that their gift is easily transferred into a thriving, award-worthy career. Such is the case with choreographer and actor Chris Scott, who found his calling for dance after signing up for tap lessons while attending the famed Hollywood High School. The dancer, who has found success choreographing routines for television shows, films and an Internet web series, effortlessly showcases his talent in his memorable recent projects. The multi-faceted choreographer and dancer just received his first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Choreography for his work on the ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ routines ‘Misty Blue’ and ‘Velocity.’ [ Read More ]...

Fox Tadd Gadduang and Sasha Mallory on “So You Think You Can Dance”
Who will be crowned America’s favorite dancer?
Judging from the comments here and the rest of the blogosphere, people seem to have little doubt that it’s going to be Melanie.
There’s an opening group number to “Wanna Get Hype” by District 78. They’re in bondage/futuristic looking outfits and big hair and leap around a lot. It is kind of interesting when they crawl on their heads.
