You won’t find a sharper contrast in period costume design than the farm life of “Mudbound” vs. the high fashion of “Murder on the Orient Express.” The former, directed by Dee Rees, is a sprawling saga about two families, one black, one white, in the 1940s Mississippi Delta. And the latter, helmed by Kenneth Branagh (who also plays the wildly mustachioed Hercule Poirot), is a stylish, 1934 murder mystery aboard the eponymous luxury locomotive.
Tackling Parallel Settings for “Mudbound”
There were two challenges for costume designer Michael T. Boyd (“Bessie,” “We Were Soldiers,” “Gettysburg”): Authenticating clothing for parallel settings on the Mississippi Delta and in aerial and tank battles during World War II. “It stretches your creativity,” said Boyd, who was working on a small budget for the indie feature distributed by Netflix.
“You’re trying to realistically recreate the atmosphere,” Boyd added. “That was my mission on this show.

Wow. Supergirl is really on fire this year, you guys!
Supergirl Season 2 Episode 5 had pretty much everything you could ask for. It had a solid case of the week that tied in very well with the overall arc of the season, humor and a whole bunch of twists that have me sitting here debating whether to start a campaign to get The CW to give us more than 22 episodes this season.
We'll start of with Lena Luthor. She's genuinely such a difficult character to read. Here I was, thinking the only reason both Kara and Supergirl got invites to the party was so that Lena could distinguish whether Kara could really be Supergirl.
It would have been a good plan if that was the case, but it's now crystal clear things are not quite adding up with Lena. She comes across as a really nice person, but they're usually the...

Appropriately enough given that it's set in California, Made in Chelsea: La is really starting to hot up. Breakups, makeups, dramas and scandals - and that's just Mark-Francis hiring a new maid. As always, the show was utterly ridiculous - as Jp would say - so read on for our 14 best bits this week...
1. Is the hottest new Chelsea couple Mytton and Jamie or Mytton and Jp?
Mytton is such a player - and now he's turned his attention to Jamie and Jp. We thought he and Jamie were a sure thing after Mytton dubbed him "a bit of a Cali babe", but then as soon as Jp rustled up some courgetti spaghetti for him it was another story. (Courgetti spaghetti, really.) We think Jamie's going to win, though, seeing as the next time trailer showed him wedding Mytton in Vegas. We don't even know what to do with all of this.

It's happened ever so quickly, but Taking New York has now aired its final episode! We're not quite sure what we're going to obsess over now that the smoothie-sipping Big Apple residents won't be on our screens any more, but at least they went out with a bang. So here we present our 12 favourite things about tonight's finale...
1. Henry's genuine sadness about Megan leaving.
We knew there had to be a good guy in Taking New York - turns out it's Henry (we suspected this all along). Megan admitted he had "puppy dog eyes" when she told him she was leaving New York, while Henry himself got all soppy with Ben and Georgina. "I thought everything was all gravy," he sniffed, wondering whether to "put up more of a fight". Ben advised him not to bother. "You do realise his advice is coming from a guy who lives in a...

We all wondered how The Apprentice would cope under the weight of 20 candidates when they were announced at the start of the series. It soon became clear that we wouldn't have to worry for long, as Lord Sugar wasted no time in sending them packing with their carefully preened tails between their designer suit legs.
And to be fair, after seeing the ragtag group of egos and flounderers he has to put up with, we don't blame him (before the episode had even really got underway, Felipe had been forced to do up Solomon's tie and Daniel had banged his head on his bed. These are the country's brightest business prospects, apparently).
Anyway, this week - which saw the teams creating their own YouTube channels - took the absolute biscuit as Lord Sugar basically threw up his hands in despair and fired not one, not two, but three candidates. If...

Death? Mourning? Ain’t nobody on Sunday’s True Blood got time for that. Less than 24 hours after losing Alcide, Sookie re-focused her efforts on saving her friends from the H-Vamps — and, of course, getting her flirt on.
Related True Blood‘s Lauren Bowles on Season 7 Wedding Bells, Chances for a Movie
To be fair, Sookie and Jason did place some quick, tear-jerking phone calls to Jackson and Hoyt (Hoyt!!!) to inform them of their respective losses. Hoyt’s reaction was particularly heartbreaking, not only because he loved his crazy mama, but because Jason had to pretend like they didn’t know each other.

Caterina Scorsone, who made Amelia Shepherd such an indelible part of "Private Practice," returned to "Grey's Anatomy" last week to supposedly check in on brother Derek -- but really test the waters of parenthood. Since Scorsone was doing press after last week's surprise visit, it was pretty clear that Amelia is going to be staying in Seattle for a while. Given that Hurricane Amelia tends to stir up drama wherever she goes, this could be interesting. I spoke to Scorsone about reviving Amelia, what's ahead for the recovering addict (and newly engaged) character, and whether or not she can be Meredith's new bestie. So, Amelia's in Seattle! Yay! Last week it seemed as if she was just crashing on Derek and Meredith's couch for a little while, but you're obviously returning. How long will she be in town? She's in Seattle for a while. I know Amelia will be in four episodes,...

With nothing to lose anymore, Michael’s frank and honest answers to James didn't surprise me as much as James’ total trust in Michael to lie to the CIA on Burn Notice this week.
Then again, Michael’s lied to the CIA before, always when he thought it was the right thing to do, so I really shouldn't have been that surprised by his willingness to do it for James in "Sea Change."
Of course, my new man-crush James didn’t disappoint: he came to the logical conclusion that sacrificing himself would keep the organization, Michael, and Michael’s friends all safe. A fair trade, really, James going to jail while his work continues... stronger than ever.
It was all a good plan except for Michael’s conscious, which just happens to be located in Fiona Glenanne’s heart. Like Jiminy Cricket, Fiona has been there to help as Michael...

Movies like The Way, Way Back are obvious – the story is obvious, the characters are obvious, the lesson it tries to impart on the viewer is obvious, the jangly non-descript pop songs on the soundtrack are obvious, and worst of all its overwhelming sentimentality is painfully obvious. It’s the type of movie that’s meant to be light fun and injects a certain amount of frivolous morality into its dramedy, but there is a point at which a film can become so light that it’s saccharine weightlessness leaves an utterly indifferent taste in your mouth. The Way, Way Back suffers from assuming that heart and persistent emotional beats trump anything narratively substantial, and makes the mistake of thinking the audience would categorically accept that assumption too.
The film is about Duncan (Liam James), a distraught teen who is forced to go on summer vacation with his divorcée mother...

From the didactic to the diabolical we look at ten movie teachers who have, for good or ill, shaped our bold young, and sometimes dangerous, minds.
The classroom has long been fertile ground for filmmakers weaving their coming of age stories around the relationship between a pupil and their teacher. They may not always end well (If…),or even make much sense (KindergAARRGGGHHten Cop) but there’s plenty of drama and heart to be had from the passing on of knowledge to those on the brink of adulthood.
The latest in a long line of inspirational teachers comes to us in the form of Kevin James’ Mr. Voss who tries his hand out at Mma in order to win money for his school in Here Comes the Boom.Below is an interview showing James going through his fight training.
It’s as subtle as bag of spanners but it does...

James (Dan Bucatinsky, l) and Cyrus (Jeff Perry, r) hit relationship bumps in the White House
We’ve been well aware of the gay couple of ABC’s Scandal – the President’s Chief of Staff Cyrus (Jeff Perry) and his journalist partner, James (Dan Bucatinsky, but the last few weeks have seen their relationship get more attention. James has taken a bigger place in covering the White House press and, in doing so, stumbled upon a huge Presidential scandal including some rigged voting machines. A ploy that may have been the sole reason why President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) is in the Oval Office.
But with last week’s assassination attempt on the President’s life, tonight’s episode is delving into the past. That includes shedding some light on our favorite gays in an earlier time in their then-closeted relationship.
We jumped on the phone with Bucatinsky earlier this...

007 is back with a vengeance in the new Skyfall movie trailer. Sam Mendes (American Beauty) directs the new 23rd James Bond film which has Daniel Craig's James Bond playing word association with a psychiatrist.
The Skyfall teaser trailer, the mood is pretty bleak with James Bond out to stop a threat to MI6 no matter the personal cost. The martini-drinking, British spy begins to suspect M (Dame Judi Dench) is hiding information related to an event in her sordid past. In the preview, we first see James going through some kind of psych evaluation with a word association test as M and Ralph Fiennes look on from the secret room.
The new Skyfall trailer doesn't reveal much about the villains in the film, but Javier Bardem is set to play 007's antagonist. Ralph

It seems like just yesterday that "American Idol" fans were gearing up for the new and improved 10th season. Now — after James Durbin's surprising elimination last week — there are just three contestants remaining.
Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart are vying to be this season's champ. But who will win? Given that the last few "Idol" winners have been male, the odds don't seem to be in the ladies' favor. MTV News caught up with resident judge Randy Jackson to get his thoughts on what Alaina and Reinhart have to do in order to take the wind out of country crooner McCreery's seemingly invincible sails.

But that doesn't mean he's not tempted to strike back now and again at the viewers who are convinced the producers of the shows arrange things so that their favorites will win.
"Thanks for all the personal abuse from the usual morons out there in Twitterland," he tweeted after last Wednesday night's "Idol." "I personally feel Haley is the most improved contestant."
