There's nothing like a good cold open. Some cold opens — you know, the opening scene of an episode of TV before the title card — are just brilliantly funny, while others are surprising or terrifying or propulsive. And others are just plain shocking. Enter the cold open of "710N", the sixth episode of the third season of HBO's "Barry." In last week's episode, Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root) continued his attempt to recruit people to his vengeance army pointing towards Barry Berkman (Bill Hader). His latest group of recruits were the siblings of the now-dead ex-Marine Taylor (Dale Pavinski), with whom Barry...

"They told me you were the guy who kills killers." Stx Entertainment has debuted a third & final official trailer for the NYC action thriller 21 Bridges. We've seen two solid trailers previously, but the movie was delayed from a September release until late November. The title is a reference to the decision in the movie, during a citywide manhunt, to shut down and block off all 21 bridges that access Manhattan (and all the tunnels and trains). Chadwick Boseman stars as a disgraced detective seeking redemption who gets into the massive manhunt for a cop killer which leads him to discover a massive conspiracy that links his fellow cops to a criminal empire. The main cast includes Taylor Kitsch, Sienna Miller, J.K. Simmons, Keith David, Stephan James, Dale Pavinski, Gary Carr, Victoria Cartagena, and Toby Hemingway. So this looks it could be pretty good, or maybe not, only time will tell whether...

"Something's going on here." Stx Entertainment has finally debuted the first official trailer for an intense NYC action thriller titled 21 Bridges, formerly known as 17 Bridges. The title is a reference to the decision in the movie, during a citywide manhunt, to shut down and block off all 21 bridges that access Manhattan (and all the tunnels and trains and everything). Chadwick Boseman stars as a disgraced detective who gets a shot at redemption, jumping into the massive manhunt for a cop killer which leads him to discover a massive conspiracy that links his fellow cops to a criminal empire. The big ensemble cast includes Taylor Kitsch, Sienna Miller, J.K. Simmons, Keith David, Stephan James, Dale Pavinski, Gary Carr, Victoria Cartagena, and Toby Hemingway. This does look pretty slick, and I'm curious about the twist. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Brian Kirk's 21 Bridges, direct from Stx's YouTube...

On HBO’s “Barry,” death follows the titular hitman-turned-actor wherever he goes, even when he’s trying very hard not to kill anyone. No really, he’s turning over a new leaf, starting right… now.
At an Fyc event for the show on Tuesday, the cast and crew gathered to watch a screening of the finale and then participate in a Q&A panel about the HBO comedy. Comedian John Mulaney, who moderated the panel, had the following non-spoilers reaction to the finale: “Boy, oh, boy! Shit!”
That set the tone of the no-holds-barred but hilarious conversation, made even more unruly by the friendship between “Saturday Night Live” alums Mulaney (who had written for “SNL” and recently hosted) and “Barry” star and co-creator Bill Hader. Much of the evening revolved around the two of them setting up comedic bits, performing various impressions or goofy voices, and miming actions that just...

This laugh-a-minute spoof centres around a not particularly smart or streetwise undercover cop, Lucas White (Alex Ashbaugh), who’s never driven a manual car before, but somehow still manages to infiltrate Vin Serento’s (Dale Pavinski) La gang of illegal street racers. They are Superfast! and they are a little furious; watch as they plot to double-cross La crime kingpin, Juan Carlos de la Sol (Omar Chaparro), who hides his cash in Big Ass Tacos establishment downtown. The gang’s outrageous plan is as daring as it is ridiculous and will see them towing the whole damn restaurant at crazy speeds.
Along for the Superfast! ride is Vin’s slap-dash crew made up of assorted members including; his girlfriend Michelle (Andrea Navedo), who maybe appreciates a beautiful woman even more than Vin, and his sister Jordana (Lili Mirojnick), who finds Officer White’s fondue-eating, face-licking first date irresistable. One Direction...

Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg, the filmmakers behind the much maligned film spoofs like "Date Movie," "Disaster Movie" and "Epic Movie," are at it again.
After taking on "300" in "Meet the Spartans" and the "Twilight" franchise in "Vampires Suck," they're now turning their attention towards the "Fast and Furious" franchise with "Superfast".
Actor Alex Ashbaugh ("The Canyons") and stunt performer Dale Pavinski are in final negotiations to star as the Paul Walker and Vin Diesel characters respectively.
Lili Mirojnick ("Cloverfield") and Andrea Navedo ("How to Make it in America") have scored the Jordana Brewster and Michele Rodriguez roles, while Daniel Booko will play the Vince-style role Matt Schulze played in the first and fifth 'Furious'.
Peter Safran will produce and filming begins in October in Los Angeles.
Seltzer and Friedberg's most recent spoof, "The Hunger Games" take-off "The Starving Games," hits in November.

If you.re like me, hearing that The Fast and The Furious franchise has inspired a parody gives you that dull ache in the back of your head when you.re hungover. (Which I.m not. Promise.) Nonetheless THR reports writers-directors Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg are gearing up for Superfast, a spoof that.s meant to poke fun at the car chase franchise that already seems pretty well aware of its own outrageous quirks. As Superfast nears its start date, the filmmakers are proud to announce they.ve found their Vin Diesel and Paul Walker for Superfast in Dale Pavinski and Alex Ashbaugh. This indie comedy will reportedly have a lean budget, so it.s little surprise that they.ve cast relative unknowns in the lead roles. Ashbaugh was recently seen in the notorious Lindsay Lohan vehicle The Canyons, and Pavinksi has scored bit parts in Underworld: Rise of...

Fast & Furious is the latest franchise to get the Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg treatment. Their latest spoof is heading to the screen and, by the looks of things, can't be stopped. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alex Ashbaugh and Dale Pavinski are in talks to play the Paul Walker and Vin Diesel characters. Sadly, it's going by the title Superfast, rather than, say, Fast & Furious: Comedy Drift.Like barnacles that have attached themselves to cinema's hull and refuse to be dislodged, even with a really, really sharp scraper, writer-directors Seltzer and Friedberg have built a cottage industry for themselves by churning out cheap and cheerful parodies of mainstream Hollywood hits. Often many at the same time. But spoofing on Fast & Furious, where all concerned are firmly in on the joke and people use words like "funderwear", seems an even more pointless exercise that riffing on more po-faced enterprises like...

Superfast has found its leads. The Fast and Furious spoof hails from writer-directors Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg, who previously made fun of Twilight with Vampires Suck and laughed at 300 with Meet the Spartans.
