Today show lifestyle contributor Jill Martin revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo a mastectomy.
An emotional Martin shared the news this morning on Today.
“This feels like an out-of-body experience,” she said as she choked back tears on Today. “It feels like someone else telling this story. … It’s happened really fast.”
The 47-year-old Martin, who wrote a personal essay about her experience on Today.com, said she had been diagnosed on June 26 after discovering she has a BRCA2 gene mutation, which she inherited from her father, who also tested positive for the mutation.
“I always associated this with something women get and so many people I’ve spoken to have said, ‘I didn’t know this was something men should be tested for,’” Martin said. “Please see your doctors and see if genetic testing is appropriate.”

“Today” show correspondent Jill Martin is speaking out about her breast cancer diagnosis.
The 47-year-old was diagnosed shortly after testing positive for the Brca gene, she revealed.
Martin shared in a “Today” piece, “I remember saying to myself, ‘My life is never going to be the same.’ It was the day I was told I had breast cancer.
“I had always feared this day would come, but I never really thought it would. Just three weeks before, in between work calls, I had taken an at-home saliva test by a genetic testing company and mailed it in. Honestly, I had forgotten I even did it.
“My grandmother passed away from breast cancer. And my beautiful mother — who is healthy now — had a double mastectomy in her late 40s after being diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ, often referred to as stage 0 breast cancer. If left untreated, Dcis can turn into invasive cancer,...

Today show lifestyle contributor Jill Martin has revealed she has breast cancer and urged viewers to seek out genetic testing to detect early-stage cancers.
“I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. And it feels like someone else telling this story. Six weeks ago, it happened really fast,” an emotional Martin said during an appearance on the NBC News morning show Monday.
She said the diagnosis came six weeks after she received scans to get preventative surgery, as breast cancer runs in her family. But after receiving genetic testing for the Brca gene — the gene linked to a higher chance of developing breast cancer — and any mutations, her breast cancer was detected.
“That test saved my life. Had I not gotten the test, I wouldn’t have got the scans and we would be telling a very different story,” Martin told co-stars Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, the latter who has...

Yellowstone production company 101 Studios and TV personality Jill Martin are teaming to launch ShopTheScenes.com, a platform enabling viewers to purchase clothes and other goods seen on popular shows.
Along with Yellowstone, Netflix’s Emily in Paris will be featured in the new initiative at launch, with other new and classic titles to follow. A projected 25 shows will soon be announced as participating in ShopTheScenes in 2023, the venture partners said.
Sometimes called “t-commerce,” the notion of enabling shopping as part of the viewing experience has been a brass ring the entertainment business and consumer brands have reached for over the past several decades. More recently, it has become more sophisticated as technology has advanced, and Amazon, NBCUniversal, Disney and Discovery have been among a large number of companies announcing ventures in the space. Purveyors of programming are especially keen to identify additional lines of revenue at a time when...

Camera operators, co-anchors and onlookers surround Savannah Guthrie whenever she appears on a broadcast of NBC’s “Today.” For a new streaming offering, however, sometimes she must fly solo.
Guthrie is hunkered down in her dressing room two flights of stairs above Studio 1A, the longtime home of the venerable morning show, fidgeting with a ring light that she can’t get to stay in a fixed position due to a faulty clamp. Rainy weather is keeping her from doing what was supposed to be a quick outdoor interview with the country band Lady A for the latest edition of “Six-Minute Marathon,” a recurring feature where she throws questions rapid-fire at any number of celebrity guests: “If you were arrested, with no explanation, what would your family think you had done?” “If you were stuck on a desert island and could only have one food, what would it be?” “What...

Chalk it up to a bad joke?
Hangover star Justin Bartha seemed to do everything in his power to embarrass Jill Martin during her interview for A New York Minute on Sunday, when the two chatted courtside at the Knicks and Cavaliers basketball game. After Martin asked him which of the 2015 Oscar nominees for Best Picture was his favorite, he quickly turned the talk to the reporter's alleged "obsession" with American Sniper's Bradley Cooper.
"You gotta stop texting me about him by the way," Bartha told her. "I know he's sexy, and he's great, but it's enough already."

After Martin denied it with a laugh, Bartha refused to drop it.
"He has asked about you once and I shouldn't have told you that because now you're obsessed and you're always asking me about Bradley," he continued.
And that's when things started getting a little uncomfortable.

Awkward interviews aren't very fun for reporters, but they're great for viewers! Hangover star Justin Bartha stopped to chat with Jill Martin for A New York Minute during Sunday's Knicks and Cavaliers basketball game, and it didn't take long before things got a little weird. After a sudden arm-around-the-shoulders move by Bartha (which prompted an oh from Martin), the show host asked the actor which nominee for Best Picture was his favorite. And that created the perfect segueway to talking about Bradley Cooper (and ultimately making it all about him and Jill's alleged "obsession"). "My favorite movie—I haven't seen all the movies because I just had a kid so I...

Niecy Nash was a favorite among her family at "The Insider," fans, and cast mates on "Dancing with the Stars." After being voted off, she bowed out of the competition with all the grace she learned in her waltz. "The Insider"'s Chris Jacobs and Jill Martin joined her in the ballroom to hug it out. Not fretting over her elimination, Niecy was excited to bring the romance of the dance floor home to her relationship with her boyfriend. "If all things go well, maybe you can be my maid of honor," she said to pro partner Louis Van Amstel. With a little tinge of jealously for her affection, Maksim Chmerkovskiy recalled, "She said that if she didn't have a man, she and I would probably be an item."
