After four enlightening, entertaining and full-frontally filthy years of Sex Education, this Netflix teen drama is coming to an end with its fourth and final series, as the Moordale kids finish up their school years for good.
A lot has changed as we enter the new series. Moordale Secondary has closed down, scattering the student body we grew to love over the first three series far and wide, and Otis and Eric are starting at the unnervingly progressive wonderland that is Cavendish College, with a whole new set of classmates to get to know. Maeve is now studying in America, Otis’ mum Jean has just had a surprise new baby, and a few other Sex Education favourites are missing entirely.
Let’s take a look at the Sex Education series four cast, old and new:

It’s the fourth and final season for the popular British dramedy Sex Education, about students and their parents dealing with sex and intimacy. Creator Laurie Nunn tells us what’s new. New School Stuffy Moordale Secondary closes, and amateur sex therapist Otis and his classmates move to more progressive Cavendish. “Otis’ ambition to start an ethical new sex therapy clinic has been thwarted,” Nunn reveals. “There’s already a talented sex therapist named O [Thaddea Graham] on campus.” Cue the carnal counseling competition! (Credit: Netflix) New Baby Otis’ sex therapist mother, Jean (Gillian Anderson), “isn’t coping well with being a single mom again,” Nunn spills. We also meet her sister, Joanna [Lisa McGrillis], “and discover how Jean became the woman she is.” New World Otis and Maeve (Emma Mackey) try a long-distance relationship while she lives her dream in the U.S., studying with a cult author (guest...

Netflix has debuted the trailer for the fourth and final season of its hit coming-of-age series “Sex Education,” complete with the tagline, “Get your tissues ready, let’s finish together.”
The British comedy continues to follow the journey of teen sex therapist Otis Millburn (Asa Butterfield) and his friends as they attend a new school with an entirely different culture than they’re accustomed to, while Otis’s love interest Maeve (Emma Mackey) has moved to the United States for college. The eight-episode final season will release on Netflix on Sept. 21, with a supersized, 83-minute series finale.
The first scene of the trailer shows Otis and Maeve adjusting to the distance between them. When Maeve sends Otis a nude photo, Otis is unsure about sending one in return. Other storylines explored in the new season include Otis’ realization that he isn’t the only sex therapist at his new school,...

It’s coming. It’s coming. It’s about to climax. The fourth and final season of the hit Netflix raunchy comedy Sex Education is set to premiere later this month. And as part of the foreplay, Netflix has released a new trailer for the British show that stars Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey and Gillian Anderson. Set to the tune of Meatloaf’s popular (and meme-able) hit “I Would Do Anything For Love,” the season 4 trailer is light on plot elements and heavy on emotion. The series celebrates its curtain call by cheekily telling fans to “break out the tissues.”
The trailer has been released by Netflix and the official season 4 synopsis reads,
Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier – their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, whilst Eric is praying they won’t be losers again.

Netflix wants fans of its British teen comedy Sex Education to “finish together” in the trailer for the show’s final season.
The two-and-a-half minute first look at the fourth season teases a busy farewell to the series, which helped catapult or bolster the careers of current and former stars, including Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Simone Ashley and Asa Butterfield. Set to the Meat Loaf classic “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That),” the trailer sees Butterfield’s Otis and Mackey’s Maeve grappling with the intricacies — including well-shot nudes — of a long distance relationship as she attends the prestigious U.S. school, Wallace University.
Gatwa’s Eric can also be seen realizing his anxieties over how he and Otis not being losers again may be overblown as he further embraces himself, and encourages other Moordale Secondary classmates to as well. And at home, Gillian Anderson...

Many TV shows stay on the air long past their expiration date, but Sex Education Season 4 looks to be the perfect place to end the Netflix comedy.
In the official trailer for the final season, we see storylines come to dramatic conclusions as everyone reacts differently to the events of the prior season.
Otis and Maeve are trying to make their relationship work long-distance, but distance is not the only thing getting in the way of their love story.
Otis is trying to help is mother, Jean, through a rough patch when she's spiraling because Jakub left town after learning the truth about the father of the baby.

One of the stars of a British TV show currently in production has boasted that the set is so sexy, bosses have drafted in not one but two intimacy coordinators.
Aidan Turner – star of The Hobbit films and the title role in hit BBC drama Poldark – told The Times newspaper that filming the drama Rivals for Disney+ is the most fun he’s had in his two-decade acting career.
He said: “We have so much sex on our show, we have to have two intimacy coaches. Two!”
Rivals is based on the 1988 bestselling romp-novel by Jilly Cooper of the same name – the second in her hit Rutshire Chronicles books, chronicling the 1980s excess of the lives and many loves of well-to-do characters on the polo fields and in the television studios of the picturesque Cotswolds, in the west of England. "I need to see the man who did this me, 'cause I don't know what I'm doing." Hulu has revealed a new US trailer for a British series titled Somewhere Boy, which seems to be a fun riff on the more popular title Nowhere Boy. It already played on BBC last year in the UK, but it is only now coming to the US - available for streaming in early June on Hulu. Here's the intro to this one: Daniel F. Harris has lived inside almost his entire life. He's always believed the world was full of monsters – the monsters that took his mum. For nearly 20 years, he and his dad Steve have stayed in, listening to old records and watching movies that always had a happy ending – and Danny was happy too. But one day that life shatters in an instant, and Danny has to take his first tentative steps into the outside world.

The creator of Maternal has addressed its untimely cancellation by ITV.
It was revealed earlier this month that the channel would not commission a second run of Maternal.
Maternal, starring Parminder Nagra, Lara Pulver and Lisa McGrillis, followed three doctors who return to work in a post-Covid landscape after their maternity leave ends.
The drama began in January 2023, but sadly, for fans of the show, not enough viewers tuned in to warrant a second run.
On Tuesday (11 April), creator Jacqui Honess-Martin posted a broken-heart emoji on Twitter, writing: “We had a lot more to say.”
Explaining the reasoning behind ITV’s decision, the writer continued: “The show needed a high number of viewers for @ITV to sell advertising to break even. Maternal didn’t get that number.
“It hurts that it ends here but I am incredibly proud of the show, grateful and a bit amazed that we got to do it at all.

The crisis in the NHS is at the forefront of our minds. Nurses are striking. There are record ambulance waiting times. Even the prime minister uses private healthcare. The BBC’s adaptation of Adam Kay’s This Is Going To Hurt, with its shocking depiction of young doctors on a maternity ward, made the crisis into primetime viewing. Now, ITV’s new drama Maternal, in which three women try to balance exhausting careers in healthcare alongside early-stage motherhood, has raised the stakes – and my heart rate.
The series opens with paediatrician Maryam’s (Parminda Nagra) first day back at work. Having taken two years off to have kids back-to-back, she dreams that she’s sprinting across the ward in pyjamas and wakes up in a cold sweat. Before she leaves, her well-meaning husband tells her she looks beautiful. “I don’t want to look beautiful, I want to look competent,...

Maternal, ITV’s new drama about motherhood and practising medicine, opens with an alarming scene of choreographed chaos. Three female doctors, overwhelmed and hideously underslept, attempt to feed their rascal children breakfast, dress them for day care, and separate them from their overspilling toy boxes in time for drop-off. For each, it’s the first day back from maternity leave, though this hectic fire drill, or a version of it, will recreate itself every morning, just as it does in homes dotted throughout the UK and beyond (my own included). Maryam (played by Parminder Nagra) is a paediatric registrar returning to work after almost two years of continuous maternity leave. She dares to ask aloud the question that can doom a working mum – or any stripe of new mum, for that matter – to crushing guilt. “What if I hate being away from them?” she shouts to her husband across the...

When I see my latest energy bill, the price of petrol at the pump, the luminaries currently installed in government… well, living off the grid, away from the grip of society, looks rather appealing. That’s how Danny (Lewis Gribben) has spent the first two decades of his life in Pete Jackson’s Channel 4 drama Somewhere Boy, raised on nothing more than a diet of mini golf, gramophone records and Charlie Chaplin movies. It all sounds rather idyllic.
“Busy day tomorrow,” says Steve (Rory Keenan), Danny’s father, who has kept him locked up in their family home. “Danny?” he calls to his son, “love you mate.” Next thing we know, Steve has apparently shot himself, and Danny is packed off to live with his aunt, Sue (Lisa McGrillis) and her son Aaron (Samuel Bottomley). An 18-year-old boy, his skin as pale as milk, squints up at the sky. He’s standing in a garden in Yorkshire suburbia, enjoying the sensation of the dewy grass between his bare toes. He can’t stop smiling. It’s one of the first times he’s ever set foot outside.
The boy’s name is Danny, and he’s at the centre of Somewhere Boy, Channel 4’s funny and peculiar new drama about a kid who’s been locked up inside his father’s house for his whole life. Danny’s mother died when he was young. His father, literally out of his mind with grief, has kept his son prisoner in a twisted attempt to protect him from the world. To stop his ever-more-curious child from trying to get out, he’s told him there are monsters on the other side of the front door, hungry for human blood.

Here’s the skinny on all those new shows and more. Here’s what arrived in 2019, and here are the new British TV dramas that arrived in 2020.

Only You, directed by Harry Wootliff, stars Laia Costa as Elena and Josh O’Connor as Jake. A pair that meet in unexpected circumstances on New Year’s Eve in the back of a taxi. A chance meeting that forms a romantic relationship that skyrockets with high intensity in a ten-year age gap and insecurities of newfound love. Complications arise when the new-formed couple starts to try for a family early on in the romantic infancy and animosity begins to brew.
The intensity and performances in Harry Wootliff’s film are astounding. Laia Costa puts forward a performance nothing short of magical on-screen. A phenomenal accomplishment in an equally remarkable feature that dives deep into the testaments of love.

Martin Shaw, who has headlined some of the most popular English dramas of the last half century, says he has the role of his career in “George Gently” as the title character, a police detective who struggles to find his footing after his wife is killed. The long-running British series is finally eligible for the Emmys thanks to the participation of the streaming service Acorn TV.
Back in 2007, Shaw had his pick of projects and was drawn to this loose adaptation of the Alan Hunter crime novels by the creative forces behind the scenes. “Peter Flannery has such a wonderful reputation. He’d won awards for ‘Our Friends in the North.’ His name first and foremost made me drive to London to meet. I read the first script and thought it was sensational.”

The last installment in the series, “George Gently and the New Age,” is contending for Best TV Movie at the 2018 Emmys. This finale brings Shaw’s character full circle as he inches closer to solving the death of his wife. That tragedy had been he catalyst for Gently leaving London in 1964 and joining the North East police force.

Its stage roots show through at times, but this story of homoerotic tension between two youth team players is well made and acted
You could tell them to get a room – but they’ve already got a room. Russell Tovey and Arinzé Kene give excellent performances as two young footballers in this intimate, intelligent drama written by John Donnelly and directed by Ben A Williams. It has the episodic form of a well-made stage play, and in fact started life as a theatre production at the Royal Court in London. The structure lets you stand back and see the way an entire life can pan out in misery and denial. The homoerotic tension is unbearable as Jason (Tovey) and Ade (Kene), two players in a Premier League club’s youth squad, share a hotel room abroad the night before a big game. They are hanging around in their pants, bantering,...

Russell Tovey gives a superb lead performance in the compelling drama, The Pass. Here's our review.
Transferring to the big screen, The Pass – based on the play by John Donnelly, who adapts it for the screen - brings Russell Tovey along with it, reprising his role as a footballer named Jason who we first meet on the verge of breaking into the metaphorical and literal big leagues.
So too is Arinze Kene’s Ade, and the film first introduces us to them rooming together in a European hotel the night before their first ever game for their (unnamed) team. It’s a Champions League game, and so it’s a fair bet they’re not playing for Birmingham City. But this does not dull their anticipation.
The pair share their excitement, their nerves and their dreams across a playful, sometimes brutal conversation. And then, out of the blue, they share a kiss.

From the creator of Him & Her, BBC Two comedy Mum returns tonight for its second series starring Lesley Manville and Peter Mullan...
Screenwriters often say their characters are inspired by people they’ve met in real life. If that’s the case for Stefan Golaszewski, he’d better hope that none of them ever watch his shows and recognise themselves. That’s hardly a risk of course. Golaszewski’s best—and by best, I mean worst—comic creations are so lacking in self-awareness they’d never notice the similarities.

Take Laura, the bigoted, self-involved sister of lazy but harmless Becky in Him & Her. You won’t meet a meaner, more judgemental, less-informed person this side of a Daily Mail comments section.

How the Love Actually producer guided the gay-footballers chamber piece from Royal Court sell-out to BFI Flare opening-night film.
Last night (Mar 16), The Pass opened the 30th edition of the BFI’s long-running Lgbt film festival - now called Flare - at the Odeon Leicester Square.
As well as being the first Flare opener to premiere at Odeon’s flagship cinema in 10 years, it also marked a return for Duncan Kenworthy, producer of Four Weddings And A Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually and The Eagle among others, who has premiered four films at the venue.
For Kenworthy, opening BFI Flare with The Pass was an optimal result for a film he self-funded and produced entirely under the radar, with the understanding that if it wasn’t a creative success, he could decide not to unveil it to the wider world. Fortunately, reviews for the Ben A. Williams-directed adaptation of John Donnelly’s play about gay footballers...
