Netflix has set the voice cast and released a new trailer as well as some first-look images for Dragon Age: Absolution, its upcoming animated series based on the popular Bioware video game franchise.
Created in collaboration with BioWare, Dragon Age: Absolution is set in Tevinter and features an ensemble of new characters inspired by Dragon Age lore, including elves, mages, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, demons and other special surprises.
Dragon Age: Absolution, revolves around Miriam, voiced by Kimberly Brooks. A pragmatic elven mercenary who escaped enslavement in Tevinter, Miriam is closed-off to many who know her. But her heroic nature shines through when she’s forced to confront the nation that destroyed her life, and the man at the heart of her misery.
In addition to Brooks, additional voice cast includes Matthew Mercer, Ashly Burch, Sumalee Montano, Pil Lamarr, Keston John, Josh Keaton and Zehra Fazal.

With a third Sonic the Hedghog movie now in the works, Sega, the video game company behind the global hit, is now targeting other titles for adaptation.
Sega has partnered with Picturestart, the banner behind the recently released Am I Ok? and Sundance hit Cha Cha Real Smooth, to develop film adaptations of two of its 1990s video game titles, Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone.
Channel 5, a comedy/dance adaptation of the cult-classic 1999 dance game, will tell the story of a hapless fast-food worker who is recruited by a freedom reporter from the future to save the world from aliens using the one thing that unites all people on the planet: our love of silly viral dances.
That project is being written by Barry Battles and Nir Paniry. Battles wrote and directed The Baytown Outlaws, a 2012 crime comedy starring Billy Bob Thornton and Eva Longoria.

One of the execs behind Valiant's resurrection is starting a new publisher with a different plan. Meet Bad Idea.
Dinesh Shamdasani, one of the people who helped make Valiant Comics' rebirth in 2011 such a success, is back at it with a new comic company. For fans of his tenure with the Bloodshot publisher, this new venture is going to look familiar.
Shamdasani and his team announced Bad Idea Comics, a new publisher with a curious business model. The company plans on only releasing one or two titles a month, only as physical media, without collections or variant covers, to only 20 comic shops around the United States at launch (with plans to expand into more as certain criteria are met).
The creators on board include some outstanding names.
Joshua Dysart, writer of Imperium and The Life and Death of Toyo Harada. Jody Houser, the definitive writer behind Faith.

While I’m not really sold on the upcoming short-form streaming service Quibi, there’s a lot of big talent on board to create the series that will fill it with content.

On the occasion of the Emmys’ passing, let’s take a step outside the spotlight. I want to lead you to the fringes for a moment.
You need to meet an artist who has yet to hold a gold statue aloft on a high-profile red carpet, but who is brilliant enough to be seen in the shadows all the same.
You need to meet Mae Catt.
I met Mae’s work at the annual film festival honoring the work of women in independent horror film, the Viscera Film Festival. The event was geared to give a moment of exposure to a wide population of filmmakers. And, as all horror film can be, the entries were hit and miss.
Nobody in the audience escaped being hit by Mae Catt’s short film, 12/15/1996.
The starkness of the title – just a date, devoid of any other commentary – won me over. The film that...

There’s a Red threat back in Hollywood.
It’s not a squad of recovering Stalinists like back in the McCarthy days. And it’s not to be found at the four-figure-admission Obama fundraisers.
The bona fide commies of Tinseltown are found among the independent horror scene.
Don’t get me wrong—you won’t find a single one of these collective workers wearing khaki coveralls or waving a pocket edition of Mao’s greatest hits. Quite the contrary. In a single glance around the Viscera Film Festival, last weekend at the Egyptian Theater, you can spot a funeral-black parasol, leopard-print bodice and ballroom gown.
But when it comes to making and promoting film, this is a crowd that rolls up their spike-cuffed sleeves and does what it takes. It’s not uncommon to find the director of one flick as the lead actress, film editor, or key grip on...

We're co-running the Viscera Film Festival, showing the best new short horror films directed by women, just like we did last year. Here's our 2011 lineup.
It's been pretty cut-throat. Out of over 80 submissions, we struggled and wept and co-director Shannon Lark and I beat each other up over what our final lineup would be. In the end, we decided, only the best of the best could play, so we counted and recounted our judges tallies and agreed that again we'd show way too many films and have our fest run way too long.
These films are just too good to not screen. We couldn't eliminate any of them. I have to be honest: I love every film on this list. We're got some Us premieres that we're especially excited about! The 2011 Viscera Film Festival Films are:
