This article contains light spoilers for the first three episodes of Royal Crackers.
Dysfunctional families are par for the course in adult animated series and Adult Swim‘s latest comedy, Royal Crackers, goes for broke when it comes to a self-interested and disillusioned family of one-time one-percenters with delusions of grandeur. Bakersfield, California is the home of the Hornsby clan, cracker magnates who are desperate to stay relevant in the face of major changes within the Royal Crackers company, some of which this fractured family may not survive through.
As Royal Crackers’ premiere looms close, the show’s creator and executive producer, Jason Ruiz and Seth Cohen, get candid on finding the humanity in these wild characters, indulging in more stylized genre experiments, and The Sopranos’ unexpected influence on the series.
Den Of Geek: The marketing for Royal Crackers has kind of embraced this riff on Succession, but it’s really its own beast.

Leading into the premiere of Adult Swim’s newest animated comedy Royal Crackers this Sunday, Adult Swim announced today that it has ordered a second season of the series. The new half-hour comedy created by and starring Jason Ruiz follows the Hornsby family as they vie for control of their once-successful cracker company. “Television has done a great job exploring how families clash over the fate of oil, media or cattle empires, but until now, no one has had the courage to address the savory snack food industry,” explained Michael Ouweleen, President of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network. “We’re all super grateful Adult Swim gave us the chance to tell more stories about our characters,” added Ruiz. “And if you can’t wait to see what happens in season two, then buckle your seatbelts for season one.” Royal Crackers was once the king of snacks, but the empire is crumbling.

Adult Swim announced two all-new original series on Wednesday morning.
Royal Crackers is Jason Ruiz’s first project with the network. It will introduce fans to the Hornsby family in a new half-hour comedy series. Ruiz previously — along with David A Goodman — created Murder Police for Fox.
Royal Crackers is an animated series that follows two brothers: Stebe, a family man with a wife and child; and Theo Jr., a single, bass guitar player trying to relive his glory days. Together they reside in their comatose father’s house waiting for him to die (which he never does) so they can inherit his cracker company empire. Ruiz serves as executive producer alongside with Seth Cohen. The series is produced by Titmouse and will premiere on Adult Swim in 2022.

Fox won't be airing Murder Police after all. The animated series had been expected to debut later this season and run on Sunday nights as part of the network's Animation Domination block of programming.
According to TV Guide, executives weren't happy with early cuts of the show and have now cancelled plans to air the series. Fox ordered 13 episodes but apparently only bits and pieces have been finished thus far. The show's producer, 20th Century Fox TV, plans to complete the episodes and shop it to cable stations.
Murder Police revolves around an inept detective Donel (Wilmer Valderrama) and his misfit co-workers. The rest of the voice cast includes Jane Lynch, Will Sasso, Chi McBride, Peter Atencio, Justina Machado, and Jason Ruiz.

The folks at "Murder Police" have an important homicide to solve -- their own.
The animated series, originally picked up by Fox for 13 episodes, won't air on the network after all, TV Guide reports. Instead, producer 20th Century Fox TV aims to shop the series around to cable networks.
Insiders tells TV Guide that Fox execs weren't happy with early cuts of the show, resulting in the show losing its spot on the net's 2013-14 schedule. As such, the studio will begin the hunt for a new precinct for the law enforcement-skewering series once more complete episodes are available to screen for the potential buyers.

For the first time ever, "How I Met Your Mother" will be at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2013. The CBS sitcom is one of 11 shows produced by 20th Century Fox Television that will feature at the big event. Other programs expected to have panels include "Bones," "The Simpsons," "Sons of Anarchy" and the new series, "Sleepy Hollow."
Most of the shows included on the list are Sdcc veterans, but "Himym" is a big exception to that. As a sitcom, it's not exactly standard fare for the big festival of all things nerdy. But the convention has increasingly become about promotion -- and "How I Met Your Mother" can use that going into its 9th and final season. The full "Himym" cast -- Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan -- are scheduled to attend, along with executive producers Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Pamela Fryman.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the second announced yesterday. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on Fox.
While "The Following" proved a breakout winner, Fox had few success stories last season. So, it is going a bit more ambitious this year with numerous dramas, comedies and one-off "event series".
Several pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen including the family of government-sanctioned assassins drama "Boomerang," the adaptation of Lauren Oliver's book trilogy "Delirium" about a world where love is illegal, the legal interns workplace comedy "To My Assistant," the U.S.S. Lexington-set "The Wild Blue," and "The List" about the hunt for a thief who stole a file containing the secret identities of people in the Witness Security Program,

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.
Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.
Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

Fox has officially picked up the series Murder Police, an animated show from Jason Ruiz and former Family Guy showrunner/executive producer David Goodman. It will riff on the traditional cop show with Ruiz providing the voice of the good cop, Manuel Sanchez, and Will Sasso voicing the bad cop, Tommy Margaretti. Horatio Sanz and Penny Marshall will also voice characters. (Yes, that Penny Marshall.) This is Fox’s first animated series order in two years — they last tried with Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite — and their most recent attempt at animated success beyond patriarchal family comedies. Maybe if the cop stuff fails to gain traction, they can just do a series-long, Family Guy–esque cutaway to a show about the bonehead Sanchez relating to his wife and kids.

"Murder Police," an animated cop comedy from "Family Guy" scribe David A. Goodman and newcomer Jason Ruiz, has been picked up by Fox.
The network has ordered 13 episodes of "Murder," to air in the 2013-14 season.
"David and Jason came to us with a really fresh take on law enforcement that we've never seen before," said Fox Chairman of Entertainment Kevin Reilly in announcing the pickup.
"With 'Murder Police,' these guys are taking a staple genre of television -- the cop show -- and turning it on its head by pushing the warped comedic boundaries that only animation can offer. It's the kind of show our Animation Domination fans will absolutely love, and I can't wait to introduce it next season."
Fox's current Sunday-night Animation Domination lineup includes "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," "American Dad," "The Cleveland Show" and "Bob's Burgers."

Adding to the "cop comedy" renaissance that we just finished writing up right before reading about this, damn it, Fox has picked up yet another new series about the hilarity of incompetent police work. Murder Police—from Family Guy and Futurama producer David A. Goodman and Fox Inkubation-groomed animator Jason Ruiz—has received a 13-episode order, the network's first for a new animated series since Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite, two shows that demonstrate why Fox hasn't ordered new animated series in a while. As dictated by the rules of the cop comedy, Murder Police will follow a ...

Fox did a little early Christmas shopping on Tuesday (December 4), picking up the animated comedy "Murder Police" for the 2013-2014 season. "Murder Police" comes from "Family Guy" veteran David A. Goodman and Jason Ruiz, who was discovered as part of Fox's Inkubation program. The project has received a 13-episode order. Ruiz also will voice the show's lead character, Manuel Sanchez, a good cop trying to fight crime the right way, but battling his own clumsiness and the ineptitude around him. And speaking of that ineptitude, Will Sasso voices the main character's violence-prone partner Tommy Margaretti. Other actors...
