One of horror's most reliable franchises is coming back for a brand new installment next summer. While little has been revealed by way of specifics, Sony Pictures has dated "Insidious 6" for next summer. The film is now due to hit theaters on August 29, 2025, per Variety. Mark your calendars and plan accordingly, supernatural lovers of the world.
What's truly interesting is that this is just one of two new "Insidious" movies in the works at the moment. Sony and Blumhouse Productions are also collaborating on a spin-off titled "Thread: An Insidious Tale," which will star Mandy Moore ("47 Meters Down") and Kumail Nanjiani ("Eternals"). Jeremy Slater ("Moon Knight") set to write and direct. In short, the long-running franchise is expanding after taking a five-year break between 2018's "Insidious: The Last Key" and last year's "Insidious: The Red Door."
Dating back to director James Wan's original breakout hit "Insidious" in 2011, this franchise has been remarkably consistent.

Back in January of 2022, we heard that Insidious franchise creator James Wan was producing a “Back to the Future meets Aliens” project that was set to be written and directed by Jeremy Slater, creator of the The Exorcist television series and head writer on the Marvel / Disney+ show Moon Knight. As the Wan / Blumhouse collaboration Insidious: The Red Door, the fifth film in that series, made its way out into the world last year, it was revealed that Slater’s movie was a spin-off called Thread: An Insidious Tale, which had Mandy Moore (This Is Us) and Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) on board to star in it. Now Deadline reports that Sony has announced an August 29, 2025 release date for the next Insidious movie – and since Thread already had a writer/director and stars attached by mid-2023, it seems logical that it would be the movie with the 2025 release date. But Deadline...

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered if any film could capture the awe-inspiring vastness of the cosmos? Many directors have soared through the stars in science fiction, but one visionary’s belief is as enduring as the galaxy itself. George Lucas, the renowned creator of the epic Star Wars, has a deep appreciation for a cinematic masterpiece that even his own galactic saga cannot match: Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
George Lucas [Photo: Joey Gannon/Wikimedia Commons]Lucas made cinematic history in 1977 with Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, an instant classic that catapulted science fiction to the forefront of popular culture. Despite his phenomenal success, he remains convinced that Kubrick’s 1968 magnum opus is an unmatched masterpiece, a celestial pinnacle that no filmmaker in the near future can hope to surpass.
The film starred Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood in the leading roles.

MCU has quite a slate of movies coming up, even though Marvel Studios has hit a rough patch with the last couple of projects. There have been talks about releasing fewer projects, as fans are definitely becoming tired of shows and movies of lower quality; still, if one character always managed to drag people to movies, it’s Spider-Man, by far the most profitable Marvel franchise, no matter the product you’re looking at.
Several months ago it was confirmed that ‘Spider-Man 4’ is in active development, at first rumors were circulating that Watts would return to direct it, but he ultimately moved on to other projects, just like Drew Goddard and Justin Lin.
Now the latest rumors pointed in the direction of Sam Raimi directing the upcoming MCU installment, and according to MyTimeToShineHello, the studio is also interested in James Wan.

As Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios continue their search for a director to take over from Jon Watts on Spider-Man 4, a new rumor is claiming that both studios may be in agreement on a filmmaker to take the helm of the highly-anticipated No Way Home sequel.
According to MyTimeToShineHello, James Wan is one of the directors in the mix to helm the movie. Whether this means he's actually had discussions about boarding the project is not clear.
Wan has previously directed the likes of The Conjuring, Malignant, Insidious, and both Aquaman movies for Warner Bros.

George Lucas did not return to direct The Empire Strike Back and its sequel.

Arachnophobia has been labeled a 90s classic in the eyes of horror fans. Not only does it have a perfect execution of spine-chilling horror, but it also manages to balance it with excellent comedy. Considering just how iconic the film was, many were concerned when it was announced that the film would be getting a remake.
A stil from Arachnophobia
However, since James Wan will be heading the project, their worries have been put at ease. The director has an impressive track record with horror, having been behind projects like The Conjuring series, The Nun films, Annabelle, and Saw.

The Legend of Korra has perfectly continued the story of Avatar: The Last Airbender. If the original animated series introduced the world, the spin-off built upon it to a degree no one saw coming. One of the most explored aspects was that of bending; more specifically, how much more one could do as a bender.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
During Aang’s time, it was as though we were shown only the tip of the iceberg. However, by the time Korra comes around, it is as though everything becomes more and more advanced. Suddenly, earthbenders and firebenders are also taking part in medicine, and airbenders could propel themselves like cannonballs.

The one-off supergroup Gbi — Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Anthrax members Charlie Benante and Scott Ian — have unveiled their cover of the Bad Brains song “The Regulator.”
The trio had previously announced the single as a Record Store Day (April 20th) vinyl release, and on Sunday (April 21st), they unleashed a music video for the track (watch below).
Upon the initial announcement of the single, Scott Ian revealed the story behind the collaboration: “Anthrax were recording our new album at [Grohl’s] 606 [studio] and the Foo’s were there rehearsing at the same time. Dave had popped into the studio to hang and listen to what we were doing and we’d gone over to hear the Foo’s rehearse. I texted Dave the next morning and said: ‘Hey! Good to see ya the other day. Are you rehearsing today? I’ll be there doing guitars. Wanna record a Minor Threat song?...

Out of the many "Star Wars" shows that have come out of the Disney era, "Obi-Wan Kenobi" is arguably the weirdest. Like "The Book of Boba Fett," it is a show about one of the most beloved characters in the entire franchise, which brings back beloved actors, and promises to answer some questions fans had wondered about for years in regards to Kenobi's actions and whereabouts before meeting Luke Skywalker. Our own Ethan Anderton called this an unnecessary prequel in his review, but acknowledged that it's also "a thrilling new adventure that adds enticing emotional layers to the Jedi Master's story."
The show depicts Obi-Wan Kenobi hiding from his guilt over what happened to Anakin, from the ghosts of all his dead friends, and from the dangers of the Empire. Before Kenobi reclaimed his connection to the Force, he was just a sad hermit living in the desert. But we...

"You can't count it!" That's what producer Peter Safran said to Entertainment Weekly in 2023 about "The Curse of La Llorona" being part of The Conjuring Universe. Safran, who has helped to spearhead the very successful horror franchise alongside James Wan since 2013, did not leave any room for interpretation there. Yet, director Michael Chaves' successful 2019 feature directorial debut contains characters from "Conjuring" films, as well as overt references to events in those stories. Be that as it may, this movie now exists as both an unquestionable hit and a film that narratively exists in The Conjuring Universe but, for technical reasons, actually doesn't.

Remember how the first Aquaman came out and was a colossal success? It really seemed like everything was finally on track for the character after years of jokes and abuse. Then tragedy…or well…insanity struck. The sequel was plagued with reshoots, scheduling conflicts, and an ever-changing landscape of the Dceu. Plus there’s the Amber Heard of it all, which has grown increasingly complicated. Today on DC Revisited, we’re getting into it all, as we dive into James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Before the first Aquaman had found massive success, Warner Bros was already hard at work on developing a sequel. Jason Momoa himself pitched a story to the studio, wanting to be more involved in the sequel’s development. This makes sense as Momoa really was the face of Aquaman and had shifted the perception of the character from a blonde man in tights...

Created by Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s mythos is as complex as it can get, thanks to its fantasy theme. The world of the animated television series involves four nations, each with their own unique bending abilities: the Fire Nation, Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, and Air Nomads.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Based on Aang, the last surviving Avatar capable of saving the Avatar world with his powers of bending all four elements, the story also focuses on Zuko. The exiled prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko shares a great bond with Aang. It was going to be a difficult task to play Obi-Wan Kenobi after Alec Guinness’ incredible portrayal of the powerful Jedi but Ewan McGregor somehow managed to live up to the high expectations. A Stephen King horror story about a malevolent (sort of) doll almost sounds like something that could've been written specifically for James Wan to turn into a movie. But while the filmmaker behind "Saw," "Insidious," "The Conjuring," and "Malignant" is indeed involved in adapting "The Monkey" -- a short story King wrote for Gallery magazine in 1980 before later including it in his 1985 collection "Skeleton Crew" -- for the screen, he's only lending his services as a producer.

A Wheel of Fortune contestant overcame the odds on Wednesday night (March 27) in spite of a “dumb rule” costing her a big chunk of money and a trip early in the episode. Many fans were furious about what happened and felt she was cheated out of a big win. The contestant in question was Emma Wan, a recently engaged former half-marathon runner from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Wan got out to a hot start, picking up the Wildcard Wedge ahead of the Express Round, where she attempted to solve a seven-word “Phrase” puzzle. Wan answered the first part of the puzzle perfectly, but she took a pause in the middle before figuring out the rest. “Can’t See The Forest… Oh shoot,” she said before adding, “For The Trees.” Unfortunately for Wan, she wasn’t awarded the puzzle, as host Pat Sajak told her, “I’m getting a no from everybody,” referring to the producers’ decision.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been released and became the unintentional conclusion of the Dceu after many delays and reshoots. The film had apparently undergone some trimming of Amber Heard‘s role in the aftermath of her messy defamation trial with her ex, Johnny Depp. There were also rumblings of bad early test screenings that had sent Warner Bros. into a panic, which drove them to order extensive reshoots. The original cut was rumored to feature cameos, including multiple Batmen, in which star Jason Momoa teased when the movie was in a vastly different incarnation.
One champion of James Wan‘s original cut was Dolph Lundgren — who portrays Nereus, the king of the Atlantean tribe of Xebel, and father to Mera, played by Amber Heard. Lundgren had praised Heard’s on-set behavior and showed great disappointment with their cut-down screentime. According to Variety, Lundgren recently told ComicBook.com, “I just...

Dolph Lundregn recently told ComicBook.com that a “really good” original cut of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” exists, but it’s not the one that fans got to see when the DC sequel opened in theaters over Christmas. To date, the sequel has earned $109 million at the domestic box office and $375 million worldwide — a far cry from the $1 billion the original “Aquaman” crossed to become the highest-grossing DC Universe film.
Lundregn appears in the “Aquaman” films as Nereus, the king of the Atlantean tribe of Xebel who also happens to be the father of Aquaman’s love interest Mera (Amber Heard). Mera’s role was drastically reduced for the sequel. Lundgren said that choice also resulted in him losing screen time since his character is so linked to hers.

A new chapter in the “Saw” franchise is here.
In preparation for the milestone tenth film, we have a rundown of where you can see the previous “Saw” just in time for “Saw X.”
It all started in 2004 as an idea conjured up by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, two bestie Australian filmmakers who were fresh out of film school and eager to make a name for themselves in Hollywood.
The first “Saw,” which Whannell wrote and Wan directed, premiered on Oct. 29, 2004. Whannell, who also starred as Adam in the first film, went on to direct the next two films. “Saw III” ended up becoming the highest-earning film from the franchise ($165 million globally), per The Numbers.
The inspiration behind the film was rooted in one of Whannell’s real-life experiences. During an interview with the Av Club, Whannell said that at the age of 24, he started to have severe migraines,...

“The devil exists. God exists. And for us, as people, our very destiny hinges upon which one we elect to follow.”
In 2013, James Wan broke the box office again for horror with The Conjuring. At the time, he was riding high off the successes of Saw and Insidious, so to crack open yet another franchise for the genre was something of a coup. Yet the story of the Conjuring universe goes way, way back, involving producer Tony DeRosa-Grund and, of course, the Warrens.
It’s a complicated backstory, admittedly, and one that’s ripe for the vintage Halloweenies treatment. Fortunately for you, the gang headed to Harrisville, Rhode Island in June of 2021 and exorcised all the demons within the 2013 blockbuster, particularly the sordid history involving the Warrens that has been the franchise’s foundation for a decade now.

New York, July 12 (Ians) Sars-CoV-2, the virus causing Covid-19, was transmitted from humans to deer, mutated, and was potentially transmitted back to humans many times, according to a study by the US Department of Agriculture (Usda).
The study, published in the journal Nature Communications, showed that Sars-CoV-2 is likely to have spread widely within the US white-tailed deer population (Odocoileus virginianus).
It showed that in late 2021 and early 2022, “Sars-CoV-2 was transmitted from humans to white-tailed deer at least 106 times in the US, mutated, and then in three instances may have been transmitted back to humans,” the Usda’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (Aphis) said in a statement.
“This research is helping us understand if cervids, such as white-tailed deer, are acting as a host or “reservoir species,” meaning an animal host where the virus can survive and potentially change,” it added.

“Insidious” is a strange franchise in that it has often been overshadowed by James Wan’s other Patrick Wilson-starring supernatural haunting series (“The Conjuring”). Also, after two installments from Film District and another two from Comcast, “Insidious: The Red Door” comes courtesy of Sony. They are certainly pulling their weight if Thursday previews are any indication.
The Patrick Wilson-directed installment is the first present-tense sequel since “Insidious: Chapter 2” in 2013 as “Chapter 3” in 2015 and “The Last Key” in 2018 were prequels giving a spotlight to Lin Shaye’s ghostbuster. Absence has apparently made the heart grow fonder, as this one nabbed $5 million in Thursday previews. For reference, the last three “Insidious” films earned $5.18 million in Thursday previews *combined*.

Onetime Asutralian college students and longtime friends, James Wan and Leigh Whannell began their careers as filmmakers with a proof-of-concept short that — once fully financed — turned into Saw, a cleverly-plotted, attention-grabbing, gore-soaked horror film that spawned eight sequels in as many years. With commercial success came creative freedom. For Wan and Whannell that meant several additional collaborations, including the criminally underseen and underappreciated Dead Silence; Death Sentence, a brutally nihilistic riff on Death Wish; and another franchise/series starter, Insidious, an ingeniously conceived and executed supernatural thriller. Wan went on to kickstart another supernatural franchise with The Conjuring (a virtual cinematic universe at this point), graduated to $100M+ budgets with the Fast & the Furious series, and directed arguably the most artistic and commercially...

There’s a moment in “Insidious: The Red Door” that encapsulates why the movie isn’t more insidious. Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson), the father from the first two “Insidious” films (this one is number five), has just dropped his son off for his freshman year at college. The son, Dalton, is once again played by Ty Simpkins, who was just a spooked kid in the earlier films; now he’s a spooked surly emo art student draped in hippie hair. Eight years ago, Dalton and his father were hypnotized so that they would lose all memory of the Further, the spirit zone Dalton got sucked into. The hypnosis worked; they’ve forgotten the living nightmares they saw. But now the visions are coming back.

July 2023 launched with a fairly disappointing weekend ahead of the 4th of July, and this weekend, three new movies – one a sequel, the other two original – take on the second weekend of Harrison Ford in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Even with three new films in wide release this weekend, it doesn’t feel like any of them have the strength to really make much of an impact against Indy, so we probably can expect “Indiana Jones” to win a second weekend with between $24 and 26 million.
As far as the new entries, we first have “Insidious: The Red Door,” the fifth movie in the horror franchise launched by James Wan and Leigh Whannell 13 years ago, starring Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Ty Simpkins. All three are back for “The Red Door” with Wilson making his directorial debut for a...

Way back in 2005, it was announced that Paul W.S. Anderson – following the success of his video game adaptations Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil – had signed on to direct a film adaptation of the Castlevania video game franchise. That project ended up being stuck in development hell, and as years passed Anderson decided to produce the film rather than direct it. At first, he passed the helm over to Sylvain White (Slender Man). Then in 2009, James Wan (Saw) signed on to direct. Wan wasn’t involved with Castlevania for a long time… but in a recent Instagram post, he revealed that he was involved long enough to contact Nicolas Cage about playing Dracula!
Wan mentioned our near miss with a Castlevania movie starring Cage as Dracula after watching Cage play Dracula in this year’s horror comedy Renfield:

The Batman movies have included a variety of love interests over the years, including Nicole Kidman in Val Kilmer’s Batman Forever. While performing with Kilmer, she noticed there was one feature about both her Batman Forever co-star and Michael Keaton she felt was important to play Batman.

Kidman starred as criminal psychologist Dr. Chase Meridian in the 1995 feature Batman Forever. It was a role that was initially for veteran actor Rene Russo, but scheduling issues allegedly caused the recast. But Kidman was someone that the film’s director Joel Schumacher was already eager to work with. Batman Forever presented a perfect opportunity for the two to collaborate.
“I know, I know, she doesn’t look anything like a criminal psychiatrist,” Schumacher once told Entertainment Weekly. “But it’s my Gotham City...
