Exclusive: Despite a myriad of health issues landing the incarcerated Harvey Weinstein in hospital last week, the much-accused producer is still expected to show up in court tomorrow — at least right now.
“Mr. Weinstein entered prison with serious medical issues, and they have not magically disappeared, but are being managed,” the producer’s long-time spokesperson Juda Engelmayer tells Deadline of his client who is suffering from diabetes, cardiac issued, sleep apnea, and who is also near blind.
Following the April 25 overturning of his 2020 sex crimes conviction, the past few days have seen a storm of rumors that 72-year-old Weinstein wouldn’t make the re-arraignment hearing in the early afternoon local time at 100 Centre Street in Manhattan. While Weinstein’s current condition is far from critical at present and he is under observation at Bellevue, one well-positioned law enforcement source said that “things could turn on a dime” and not to rule out “more drama.

It was a fight that my team had to really put their foot down and basically put everything into perspective for them. MeToo founder Tarana Burke has spoken out defiantly in response to the overturning of Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction, the BBC reports.
Burke, who first coined the phrase MeToo to describe women victims of sexual abuse as early as 2006, and saw it gain worldwide recognition in 2017 in the light of accusations against Weinstein, said: “This is not a blow to the movement. It is a clarion call and we are prepared to answer that call.”
This comes after New York Court of Appeals ruled that the disgraced producer did not receive a fair trial in 2020, and ordered he face a new trial.
While Weinstein’s lawyer called the decision “a victory for every criminal defendant in the state of New York,” Burke was among many people criticising the decision. The BBC quotes her saying:

Miriam Haley, the key witness at Harvey Weinstein’s rape trial in New York, said Friday that she is weighing whether to testify again, after an appeals court on Thursday overturned his guilty verdict.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has indicated that it will seek to retry the former producer, but a trial likely would not go forward without Haley’s participation.
At a press conference with her attorney, Gloria Allred, Haley said she does not want to go through the ordeal of another trial, but recognized there are broader issues at stake.
“This isn’t just about me,” she said. “It’s a really important case. It’s in the public eye. It is difficult for me personally, but it is important for the collective.”

On Thursday, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke voiced her disappointment at Harvey Weinstein’s conviction being overturned by the New York Court of Appeals at a press conference in New York City.
Burke said the #MeToo movement will continue the fight to make sure survivors of sexual abuse are protected. “When we have low moments, we get low and we get dirty and we do what we have to do. We get in the trenches and we do our work, and we will continue to do that,” she said, according to multiple outlets’ coverage of the press conference. “The outcome of this case doesn’t change that.”
The activist also expressed that she was “devastated for the survivors who are connected to this case and the survivors who have found some solace and catharsis in the original verdict around Harvey Weinstein.”

One of the 12 jurors who heard Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 sexual assault trial and voted for his conviction, which was overturned on Thursday by New York’s Court of Appeals, has written an op-ed for U.S. News and World Report in which she calls the reversal a gut-punch that should not have happened, as the jury’s decision was not influenced by the so-called Molineux witnesses whose testimony in 2020, in part, led to the decision to overturn the conviction.
“The decision is a punch in the gut to Weinstein’s victims — and to all rape victims, where so often the only evidence is a woman’s word,” Amanda Brainerd, who was juror 11, wrote in her piece. She went on to add, “Our justice system failed us today.”

It was Valentine’s Day earlier this year when, in an Albany courtroom, the seven judges that make up the New York State Court of Appeals spent part of their day hearing oral arguments about potentially overturning the nearly four-year-old landmark trial in which Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of two of five felony counts of rape, resulting in a prison sentence of 23 years. On Thursday, more than two months later, the court announced it has reversed the mogul’s conviction in what is a shocking move to many and a pivotal moment in the #MeToo era.
Others who were closely watching the case and the proceedings on that February day in Albany may feel less shocked by the reversal. Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction has been overturned by the New York Court of Appeals.
On Thursday, the court found in a 4-3 ruling that the judge in Weinstein’s trial — a landmark moment in the #MeToo movement that the 2017 allegations against him started — had shown prejudice by allowing women to testify about allegations that were not part of the case. The court has now ordered a new trial.
Weinstein, the Oscar-winning producer of “Shakespeare in Love” and “Good Will Hunting,” is serving a 23-year sentence at the Mohawk Correctional Facility, a medium-security prison in Rome, N.Y. He will remain imprisoned as he was also convicted of rape in Los Angeles in 2022 and sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison. However, Weinstein was acquitted in the Los Angeles trial on charges involving a woman who testified in his New York case.
Weinstein spokesperson Juda Engelmayer said in a statement: “We’re cautiously excited.

A Washington state resident pleaded guilty this week to a felony count of conspiracy connected to an alleged scheme concocted by him and a former Deadspin editor to trespass into computer systems used by a sports league and several news organizations.
Appearing in federal court and speaking through his attorney on Monday, 24-year-old Marco Gaudino said he understood the conspiracy allegedly involving journalist Timothy Burke was a crime, and he was willing to accept full responsibility for his actions.
In exchange, federal prosecutors have agreed to not pursue additional computer hacking charges against Gaudino, and will ask a federal judge overseeing his case to punish him to the lower end of the sentencing guidelines, which could see him earn little to no prison time.

Burke always sparkled and glittered across the stage showing off her toned abs and enviable body, but believe it or not the pro was actually fat-shamed. Here’s what the 46 year old pro dancer had to say about the traumatizing ordeal.
Dancing With The Stars – Pro Struggled With Body Image
Imagine shaking and jiving on a live primetime stage in front of millions of critics at home on their couches. Cheryl Burke suffers from body-dysmorphia after years of her appearance being analyzed by judgmental strangers and having her weight gains or losses smeared across grocery store tabloids.
The Dancing The Stars alum recently opened up about the ordeal on an episode of Amy Robach and Tj Holmes’ podcast.

Cheryl Burke was notably absent from the Dancing with the Stars tribute to the late Len Goodman.
In a new interview, the former pro dancer on the ABC competition for 26 seasons says she has a theory about why she was not invited.
“I would assume that some people may not be happy with my podcast that I have here with iHeart,” Burke said on the Amy and T.J. Podcast. “Maybe it’s the title.”
Burke hosts the podcast titled Sex, Lies, & Spray Tans, and although she didn’t participate in the tribute to Goodman, she said her podcast was open to anybody who has participated in DWTS.
“I don’t care if you’re the first eliminated, or if you went all the way till the end, or if you had a bow-out due to, like Sarah Evans, like a divorce that she was going through,” she said. “This...

Cheryl Burke was the longest-running female Dancing with the Stars pro. However, despite her longevity and success on the series, Burke once believed she was “too fat for TV.”
Cheryl Burke felt negative about her body as a ‘Dancing with the Stars’ pro
Throughout her Dancing with the Stars career, Cheryl Burke felt she looked different than her other female pros. She compared her body to others whom she believed were thinner.
During an appearance on the Amy & Tj Podcast, Burke admits she has body dysmorphia. She believes appearing on the show added to the negative feelings she already had about her body.
“As far as wearing one of the outfits, I would probably get on some, I don’t know, some sort of strict diet,” Burke said of the possibility of ever appearing on the series again.
“But that’s my body dysmorphia that I’ll forever have … I’m very open with that,...

The longtime ballroom dancer is settling the score herself. Cheryl Burke has revealed that she had a total of three romances over the course of her 26 seasons on the ABC competition series Dancing With the Stars. Some of her past dance partners on the show included Drew Lachey, Rob Kardashian, William Levy, Drew Carey, and Ryan Lochte. But Burke is keeping secret exactly who she romance ed, at least for now. The dancer unveiled the lore regarding her love life on the show on Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes‘ podcast, “Amy & T.J.” As Burke explained, ballroom dancing is an intimate sport that requires time and vulnerability from both partners for several weeks seven days a week. Especially given the fact that contestants are learning a new skill, it’s a natural – or unnatural – environment for romance to emerge. “It happens,” said Burke. “It is [love] in that moment, and then you’re like,...

In 1979, Ridley Scott unleashed the science fiction classic "Alien" upon audiences and unwittingly kickstarted a lucrative franchise comprised of seven sequels and an assortment of books, comics, and video games. In August 2024, Fede Álvarez plans to release "Alien: Romulus," which will hopefully push the series in a creative new direction, delivering more Xenomorph horror action for audiences to enjoy.
The "Alien" franchise has amassed $1.6 billion at the global box office, despite more than a few bumps. Films such as David Fincher's "Alien 3" and Scott's own "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" divided audiences with their strange methodology. In contrast, the "Alien vs Predator" films never amounted to more than cynical cash grabs. These sequels/prequels also retconned important lore or added new details to the Xenomorph that do not jibe with previously established material, leaving fans scrambling to make sense of the "Alien" timeline. Some of their theories are perfectly acceptable,...

For years, people have “heard grumblings and whispers” — as #MeToo founder Tarana Burke puts it — about the questionable behavior of Sean “Diddy” Combs.
“But I think the question,” Burke adds, “was there ever going to be any level of accountability?”
Five months ago, Combs’ life dramatically changed. Singer Cassie, the music mogul’s former partner and a recording artist, sued him for sexual assault and said he repeatedly raped and physically abused her for nearly a decade; they reached a settlement two days later. But subsequent lawsuits from more women followed with claims of rape and sexual assault, and in February producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones — who worked on Combs’ recent Grammy-nominated album — accused the entrepreneur of harassing and trafficking him. Christian Combs, the entertainer’s 26-year-old son, has been accused of sex assault in a lawsuit filed this week that also listed 54-year-old Combs as a defendant, multiple outlets reported.

When 9-1-1 co-creator Tim Minear signed up on Twitter (now known as X), he chose a telling handle to denote his legacy as a screenwriter and director: @Cancelledagain. “I was sort of infamous for all of my thundering failures over the years,” explains Minear. “Firefly lasted one season, Terriers one season, The Inside one season, Drive went for six episodes. Everything was canceled, so I just called myself ‘cancelled again,’ which actually worked out for me because these are all beloved little cult shows now.”
With the seventh season of 9-1-1, which he created with Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, underway and a milestone 100th episode premiering April 4, Minear now has a big, long-running show on his hands, plus a successful spinoff in 9-1-1: Lone Star, which will debut its fifth season in the fall. So much so that he’s considering a name change if he returns to the social media platform.

Burke was arrested in February on more than a dozen criminal charges after prosecutors say he and an unnamed co-conspirator collected several usernames and passwords, then used those credentials to trespass into online computer servers.

A Florida journalist who faces numerous computer hacking charges may lose his private lawyers if legal fees continue to mount.
At a court hearing on Monday, an attorney representing former Deadspin editor Timothy Burke said he may need a court-appointed attorney through the federal public defender’s office if he is unable to continue paying for private counsel in the future.
For nearly a year, Burke has been represented by Michael Maddux and Mark D. Rasch, who have worked with Burke on pre-indictment motions that sought to compel the government to return numerous computers, phones and other items seized during a raid on his Tampa-area home last May.

Ian Rankin’s Rebus is one of the most successful characters in contemporary fiction. Appearing in over 24 novels since 1987, with the 25th, Midnight & Blue, set to be published in October, and over a dozen short stories, Rankin’s dour detective has made an indelible impression on readers the world over.
It wasn’t long before he made his way to the screen. The first iteration starred John Hannah, who played the role for one series in 2000 to 2001. Hannah was unpopular with fans of the books, and he quit the role soon after.
For three series, Ken Stott stepped into the role of the detective. His portrayal was extremely popular, and he became inextricably linked with the role, so much so it has taken well over a decade for...

The BBC has acquired crime drama series Rebus, a new adaptation of the best-selling Inspector Rebus novels by Scottish author Ian Rankin, starring Richard Rankin (Outlander, The Replacement) in the lead role.
Adapted for the small screen by Gregory Burke (´71, Six Four) and produced by Eleventh Hour Films for Nordic streamer Viaplay, the six-part series will air on the U.K. public broadcaster’s flagship network BBC One, BBC Scotland and streamer BBC iPlayer this spring.
Rebus has been seen on the screen and stage before. An ITV series ran for four seasons from 2000 until 2007. The fictional inspector has also been featured in radio and theater adaptations.
The show features a younger, and recently divorced and demoted, protagonist. Set in Edinburgh, it “reimagines John Rebus as a younger Detective Sergeant drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality,...

Prosecutors with the U.S. Department of Justice have filed a motion to dismiss a Florida journalist’s federal appeal that is tied to certain computers and phones that were seized from his home last spring.
Late last month, government prosecutors said the appeal filed by Timothy Burke and his attorneys last November should be tossed because the devices sized from the journalist’s home are now being used as evidence in a criminal proceeding against him.
The motion also said Burke’s original demand for an unredacted copy of an affidavit in support of last May’s raid on his home is moot, because a mostly-complete version has already been provided to Burke and his attorneys after the government petitioned a lower court to unseal some of it late month.

“Don’t presume you know everything.” For decades, that was actor Paul Reiser’s response whenever people would ask him about playing Burke, the Weyland-Yutani middle-manager who tried to kill the heroes of Aliens to please his bosses.
Since the release of the James Cameron classic in 1986, viewers have taken Ripley’s summation of the situation to heart. “You know, Burke, I don’t know which species is worse,” she tells him after escaping from a trap he set to infect her and the child Newt with a Xenomorph. “You don’t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage.”
And yet, almost 40 years later, Reiser still insists that Burke isn’t the villain he seems. When Den of Geek catches up with the actor and comedian, he shares his rejoinder to those who called Burke a bad guy. “You say ‘bad,’ I say ‘misunderstood.'” In a...
