I didn’t want to watch Outlander. Bodice-rippers generally make me roll my eyes.
Then I learned that Diana Gabaldon, who wrote the book series that inspired the Starz drama, wasn’t a huge fan of romance either. Gabaldon recently told Buzzfeed that her agent encouraged her to bill the first Outlander book as a romance novel, even though it also dabbles in historical fiction, science fiction, and other genres. The idea was that a science fiction best-seller usually sold around 50,000 copies, while romances could reach 500,000. So Gabaldon reached a compromise with her publisher: she’d agree to file it under “romance,...

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are reteaming after crashing a couple weddings back in 2005 for "The Internship," a workplace comedy that casts them as interns at the tech giant Google. The duo is up to their usual shenanigans, but as they told MTV News' Amy Wilkinson at Google HQ, there's also a heart to the story that makes it important right now.
"The movie is really about what's going on now," Vaughn said. "A lot of young people who are entering the workforce — there's a lot of fear about what kind of jobs are out there, and people who are older are losing jobs. So I think the movie really takes people who are put in a position that feels fearful or things have gone against them, that they're willing to kind of humble themselves and not give up on a dream and try to believe in themselves even when...

Cleo Higgins leads the third round of blind auditions in tonight's episode of The Voice UK.
Formerly the lead singer of pop act Cleopatra and now a mum of two and trained chef, Higgins is seen hoping to relaunch her musical career.
"I am so tired of people recognising me for my history and not hearing what I'm capable of doing as a performer now," says the 30-year-old.
Barry James Thomas - the 49-year-old uncle of Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas and Emmerdale's Adam Thomas - also does his best to send the coaches spinning.
Singing Etta James classic 'Something's Got A Hold On Me', 18-year-old self-confessed "small town girl" Elise Evans is another contestant hoping for a shot at stardom.
She is joined by fellow teenage auditionees Conor Scott - an 18-year-old Belfast busker - "ultimate Jessie J super-fan" Lem Knights and 19-year-old Mitchel Emms, who once...

It's almost impossible to find someone over the age of 10 who hasn't seen Jurassic Park, and -- now that the film has seen its 3D rerelease in theaters -- the odds of finding anyone, of just about any age, who hasn't experienced Steven Spielberg's classic are about to plummet. Incredible as it may seem, I found someone of theater-going age back in 1993 who didn't see the movie, and -- even more unbelievable -- who managed to avoid it for the next 20 years. It seemed only appropriate to use the film's second major theatrical run to our advantage, so I bought a pair of tickets for its opening weekend and proceeded to lead my pal Amy Wilkinson (who you may know as the editor of MTV's Hollywood Crush) down the dusty, dino-laden path of...

Yes, Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci are two actors in the upcoming fantasy adventure "Jack the Giant Slayer," but did you know that Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci are also two actors with fabulous hair in the upcoming fantasy adventure "Jack the Giant Slayer"?
MTV News' Amy Wilkinson headed to jolly old England to speak with the two gentlemen actors about their 'dos in "Jack" and to find out which had the better haircuts.
"[McGregor] does because it's real," Tucci said.
And McGregor couldn't help but agree. "I had a great haircut in this film," he said.
You can see for yourself which actor takes the top hair honors when "Jack the Giant Slayer" opens in theaters tomorrow, March 1.

If we're all being honest with ourselves, pretty much everyone has dreamed of being the first lady. They say that power is the ultimate aphrodisiac, and what station is more powerful than president of the United States?
With that in mind this Presidents Day, cue "Hail to the Chief," because not only are we giving you venue to picture yourself as the first lady, we're taking it one step further: Why settle for marrying a president when you could also eff and kill two others? U-s-a! U-s-a!
Since we're pretty sure it's a federal crime just to mention the k-word in the same sentence as the word "president" (let's hope the Secret Service are movie fans as well), we've turned to film for this especially patriotic installment of NextMovie's Eff, Marry, Kill. There comes a time in every girl's life when she must decide which hard-bitten-yet-handsome gentleman from an upcoming cop drama she'd most like to take home to Mom and Dad. (Isn't there?) Now that the Jan. 11 release date of "Gangster Squad" is upon us, it's time to make the call: Is it Nick Nolte who will wait for you at the end of the perp walk aisle? Josh Brolin whose detective skills will equip him for a very, ahem, intimate inspection? Ryan Gosling who will meet a noir-style, gritty end at the barrel of a gun? (Or at the bottom of a long drop, not that we've thought about it too much.)
Yes, the time has come for Eff, Marry, Kill: "Gangster Squad" Edition.

Edward vs. Jacob may be one of the great battles of our time, but what happens when you throw Charlie Swan into the mix?
Welcome to our "Twilight" guys edition of Eff, Marry, Kill.
This game goes exactly how you think it does. We want you to determine which actor — Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner or Billy Burke — you'd like to spend the rest of your days with, whose days you'd like to end for good and which one you'd enjoy (or suffer through, as the case may be) spending one single night with.
Because such decisions are so difficult, we've asked a few of our buds to weigh in. Hit the poll below and hear thoughts from our experts underneath. And don't forget to give us your thoughts in the comments!

The storms on the east coast have proven powerful enough in some cases to make some government officials postpone Halloween to a later date, until it's safe again for trick or treaters, but for most people, October 31st will always be All Hallows' Eve.
But whether you're stuck inside or coming back in from a night of tricks and treats, you'll no doubt need some scary movies to cap off your night.
We asked the MTV News staff to share their favorite flicks for a Halloween night spent indoors, so check out our recommendations after the jump!

Selena Gomez is, for now, best known as the former teen star of Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place" and the current star of Justin Bieber's love life. But with upcoming roles in everything from family fare to a raunchy college comedy, Gomez, 20, looks to be making a major play for her triple-threat talents to propel her from Disney teen queen and gossip generator to major movie star.
Appearing in a Disney or Nickelodeon show often bestows as many blessings as curses for young actors. Once they perfect their goodie-goodie roles tailored for tweens and younger audiences, teen actors are often unable to break into more mature projects that will get them taken seriously as an actor. Just ask Hannah Montana, a.k.a. Miley Cyrus, whose latest film, "Lol," crashed straight to video, her latest setback since "The Last Song" in her effort to nail another plum star vehicle.

It couldn't have been more than six months ago that a male friend and I were engaged in an uncharacteristically earnest Gchat conversation about the genius of "When Harry Met Sally..." And as philosophical discussions of that sort often go, we couldn't help but wonder why they don't make romantic comedies like they used to. (Oh, the loathsome they: such a handy scapegoat!)Of course, each generation is wont to think theirs did it best, but it was probably a curious conversation for us to be having considering we hadn't even finished the second grade when the film debuted in 1989. "Brave" follows a young Scottish royal named Merida, who bucks her parents' wishes, insisting on paving her own path — with bow firmly in hand.Of course, the animated flick is only the latest this year to feature an adept bow-woman (or bowman). There was Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) in "The Avengers," William (Sam Claflin) in "Snow White and the Huntsman" and, our obvious favorite, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) in "The Hunger Games." Unsurprisingly, this slew of big-screen portrayals has helped revive interest in the ancient sport, with more and more amateur archers sizing up their targets.

The '80s are alive and well in director Adam Shankman's movie musical "Rock of Ages," which shimmied into theaters Friday (June 15).Based on the hit Broadway production of the same name, the flick follows would-be musician Drew Boley (Diego Boneta) as he falls for new-in-town Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough) and lands his big break opening for rock legend Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) at the famed Bourbon Room.
The soundtrack is stuffed with the era's biggest hits like "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," "Don't Stop Believin' " and "I Want to Know What Love Is," but the toe-tapping tunes aren't the only throwbacks to the decade of decadence. Pay close attention and you'll spot a number of '80s music mavens.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled Finnick speculation to bring you this special announcement: "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" will light up IMAX theaters come November 2013! (Ok, the news broke Wednesday, but I don't write my column until Thursday.) Anyway, this is big (as in 70 feet tall) news ... if you like that sort of thing. While "The Hunger Games" was re-mastered for IMAX screens, director Francis Lawrence intends to shoot entire "Catching Fire" sequences in the larger-than-life format. As my colleague Kevin P. Sullivan noted, this will be only the sixth major studio film to be partially shot in IMAX — news to which my reaction was roughly, "Okie doke..."

Producer/director/choreographer Adam Shankman is clearly a man of many talents, but perhaps the "Rock of Ages" helmer should consider adding "talent scout" to his résumé.When we caught up with Shankman to chat about his movie based on the hit Broadway musical, we were curious as to whether he would seek a finder's fee if star Diego Boneta's career takes off following the film's June 15 release.
"I feel like he's one in a long line of finder's fees for me," Shankman said with a grin. "I feel like, you know, I put Zac Efron in his first two movies. Channing [Tatum] was kind of born out of 'Step Up.' You know, there's been some of these actors, I feel like I've been a part of their early development.

We, in turn, picked up a few party favors as well, namely five things about the cinematic series and its stars. Check them out:

If there was any question whether "The Hunger Games" could carry "Twilight"'s banner once the vampire romance makes its final Movie Awards appearance in 2013, the dystopian flick's four wins set that debate to rest. Despite the decided lack of pot brownies and milkshakes, the 2012 MTV Movie Awards was a coming-out party for the ages for "Perks of Being a Wallflower."
Castmembers Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller were on hand for the first time as a cast to debut the trailer for their upcoming adaptation, based on Stephen Chbosky's 1999 novel (published by MTV Books).
"Perks" follows introverted high school freshman Charlie (Lerman), who slowly emerges from his insular world with the help of seniors Sam (Watson) and Patrick (Miller).
The first look is full of pivotal moments familiar to fans of the novel, including Charlie's first-ever party, the bloody cafeteria brawl and goose-bump-inducing tunnel scene. But, of course, there were also plenty of things we didn't get a glimpse at,...

Universal City, California — Forget "The Hunger Games." Elizabeth Banks was left parched after the sexy "Magic Mike" cast handed her the Best On-Screen Transformation award at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards.
The actress nabbed the award for her role as District 12's persnickety mentor Effie Trinket — a role that required her to don three separate wigs, a closet full of couture outfits and a pair of forest-like fake eye lashes.
Though she was honored by the award, Banks had only one thing on her mind when MTV News' Josh Horowitz asked for her reaction to the statuette. "I'm a little parched, yeah. I need some water!" Banks exclaimed with a laugh.

Kristen Stewart wins Best Kiss at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards
Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images
"Breaking Dawn" producer Wyck Godfrey wasn't wrong when he said the best kiss is when "it's really about a prelude to sex." And, as he predicted, "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart won their fourth consecutive Best Kiss award at tonight's MTV Movie Awards for their wedded-bliss kiss in the series' penultimate installment.
Pattinson and Stewart had stiff competition, to be sure, including previous winner Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone ("Crazy, Stupid, Love"), Emma Watson and Rupert Grint ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2"), Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson ("The Hunger Games") and Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum ("The Vow").
Pattinson couldn't attend the awards ceremony due to prior commitments for his upcoming film "Cosmopolis," suggesting an...

Julianne Hough
Photo: MTV News
Universal City, California — Here's a, perhaps, little-known fact about "Rock of Ages" star Julianne Hough: Before she was tango-ing on "Dancing With the Stars" or kicking off her Sunday shoes in "Footloose," the actress was a member of house Gryffindor at Hogwarts.
That's right — Hough, along with brother Derek — was an extra on "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" way back in 2001. So when we caught up with the 23-year-old and her "Rock of Ages" co-star Diego Boneta at the junket for their movie musical (out June 15), we had to ask what she thought the franchise's chances were at its final MTV Movie Awards.

Universal City, California — Moviegoers are seeing a lot of Channing Tatum in 2012, thanks to a trio of starring film roles, but they'll see a whole new side of the actor when his upcoming stripper flick "Magic Mike" debuts June 29. And, yes, we are talking about his backside.
Tatum, along with co-star Matthew McConaughey and producer-screenwriter Reid Carolin, took to the Universal Studios CityWalk stage Thursday night to debut an exclusive clip from the Steven Soderbergh-directed film and talk about taking it all off during our Sneak Peek Week festivities leading up to the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday, June 3.

Best Kiss nominee and Movie Awards presenter says she was 'so not ready' for film's emotionally charged speech.
By Amy Wilkinson, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Kristen Stewart
Photo: MTV News
Universal City, California — In her latest film, "Snow White and the Huntsman," actress Kristen Stewart proves that the fabled heroine is not only fair, but incredibly fierce. Suiting up in armor and wielding a glinting sword, Snow White must save her kingdom from the clutches of her evil stepmother, Queen Ravenna (played by Charlize Theron).
Yet, for as much onscreen bravery as she showed, Stewart was admittedly apprehensive about one scene in particular, she revealed during Sneak Peek Week, leading up to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards tomorrow at 9 p.m. Et, where the actress is also a presenter.
