Homelander Actor Antony Starr Isn't Begging to Be in a DC or MCU Movie, But He's a Fan
While the MCU and Dceu are the unquestioned champs of the box office, the television landscape has given rise to a different, more experimental form of superhero content. Leading the pack is Amazon's The Boys, which serves as a dark parody of the Avengers and Justice League. One of the leads of the show is Homelander, played by Antony Starr, easily the chief breakout character of the series. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Starr weighed in on whether he would be interested in playing a mainstream superhero next.

"Do you know what? I think I've got a new appreciation for how taxing it is to wear the superhero outfits, so it'd have to be the right role for the right people. I've followed the comic book movies and shows, of course, because they really hit their stride with pop culture over the last sort of decade or more. So,

You’re all underestimating ‘The Boys’ Season 2 at Golden Globes and here’s why

You’re all underestimating ‘The Boys’ Season 2 at Golden Globes and here’s why
I just switched my Golden Globe winner prediction for Best Drama Series to “The Boys.” This Amazon Prime superhero series is currently sixth place in Gold Derby’s overall odds, behind “The Crown,” “Lovecraft Country,” “Ozark,” “The Mandalorian” and “Perry Mason,” but I think you’re all vastly underestimating its chances. I know, I know — “The Boys” was skunked last year for its first season, which now makes it harder to rebound with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a quirky organization of less than 100 journalists that infamously tends to award only the newest shows and stars. So why do I predict it will prevail now?

Simply put, “The Boys” skyrocketed into the cultural zeitgeist this year after being only a small cult hit for its first season. This was the year the rest of the world truly discovered the gritty series about a ragtag group of vigilantes who are trying

2021 Golden Globe Predictions:

Best TV Series (Drama)

Updated: Jan. 11, 2021

Awards Commentary:

Production delays due to Covid-19 mean that some of last year’s contenders, including best drama winner “Succession,” aren’t back to compete in 2021 — opening the door to some new possibilities. Could this also be a year that genre makes a big splash with HFPA members? Hot off its Emmy streak, “The Mandalorian” is in the hunt, while HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” and

Which categories are your TV favorites competing in for the 2021 Golden Globes?
In which categories are your TV favorites competing for the 2021 Golden Globes? In recent weeks, studios, networks and the Hollywood Foreign Press members have made some difficult decisions on placements for borderline shows and performers.

The HFPA is operating under a different set of rules this year: television shows are continuing with eligibility for the calendar year of 2020; films can debut through February, 2021. This move is different than the one for the SAG Awards, which has extended their deadline through February for both TV and movies.

We’ve got the full list below for dramas, comedies, limited series and TV movies, plus lead and supporting choices. Our summary does not include programs that were logical, easy categories to decide. It’s just the ones where major selections had to be discussed and even debated.

Will action blockbuster ‘The Boys’ crash the Golden Globes?

Will action blockbuster ‘The Boys’ crash the Golden Globes?
Amazon Prime’s blockbuster action satire “The Boys” could very well crash the Golden Globes this season. While the Hollywood Foreign Press Association runs a little hot and cold when it comes to the superhero genre, “The Boys” might break through if enough voters recognize it as one of the TV hits of the fall.

Based on the comic book of the same name, “The Boys” depicts a world in which real-life superheroes are revered as celebrity gods. Developed by writer/director Eric Kripke, the action drama explores what happens when these heroes go rogue and abuse their powers. It’s become a buzz-worthy cautionary tale about celebrity worship, materialism, fame and greed. Despite praise from critics for the show’s first season (it scored a fresh rating of 84 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), the show flew under the radar last year. However, after its sophomore season premiered in September, it

Laz Alonso Got Revenge on ‘The Boys’ Showrunner Over Season 2’s Gross Phallic Attack

Laz Alonso Got Revenge on ‘The Boys’ Showrunner Over Season 2’s Gross Phallic Attack
One of the most memorable moments in “The Boys” Season 2 was a gross-out fight scene between Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso) and Love Sausage, a Russian superhero with a long snake-like penis. The scene includes one moment where Mother’s Milk gets strangled by Love Sausage’s 10 foot “weapon,” which left Laz Alonso humorously seeking revenge on “The Boys” showrunner Eric Kripke. Payback has now been served in the form of Alonso’s holiday gift to Kripke: A knitted scarf that resembles Love Sausage’s love sausage.

“For a long time, Laz Alonso has wanted payback for wrapping him in a ten foot penis,” Kripke shared in a post to his Twitter followers along with a picture of him wearing the scarf. “Yesterday, he got it. Thanks for the holiday gift, Laz!”

Alonso has played Mother’s Milk on “The Boys” since the show’s breakout first season. The series

Erin Moriarty: Female empowerment on ‘The Boys’ was ‘so cathartic and satisfying, and I loved it!’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
“I think we all need to become increasingly conscious of making sure that at the end of the day, perspectives on our show are not just male,” declares Erin Moriarty, who stars as superhero Starlight on Amazon Prime Video’s blockbuster action satire “The Boys.

Moriarty loves how the show turns the superhero genre on its head, noting that the muscular, testosterone-driven genre “only recently has started creating female-centric story lines at all.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Moriarty above.

Karl Urban (‘The Boys’) on Billy Butcher’s dual nature, driven by vengeance and nobility: ‘There is a war that is raging within him’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
“It’s a calibrated choice,” smiles Karl Urban when asked about whether his character Billy Butcher enjoys violently beating up and often killing the bad guys. “I want to intentionally signal to the audience, you better watch out, when Butcher smiles, when he’s enjoying it, shit’s about to hit the wall!” he laughs.

Urban, who stars on the show as leader of “the Boys,” the misfit band of vigilantes hell-bent on destroying the rogue superheroes at the center of the story, says that enjoyment comes from his character’s need for catharsis. “It’s an opportunity to get all of that anguish and that angst and that toxicity out of his body over his entire life and take it out on something and someone,” he says. ‘The Boys’ Cast Reacts to Barack Obama Praising Show

‘The Boys’ Cast Reacts to Barack Obama Praising Show
Superhero shows such as “The Boys” and “Watchmen” have received acclaim for subverting the superhero genre, and former President Barack Obama is among their most famous fans.

Obama discussed a handful of his favorite television shows during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. The former president, who published his “A Promised Land” memoir in November, noted that several recent shows helped him unwind while taking breaks from writing.

“‘Better Call Saul,’ because of its great characters and examination of the dark side of the American dream,” Obama told Entertainment Weekly. ‘The Good Place’ — it’s a wise and sweet combination of goofy comedy and big philosophical questions. And ‘Watchmen’ and ‘The Boys,’ for how they turn superhero conventions on their heads to lay bare issues of race, capitalism, and the distorting effects of corporate power and mass media. Oh, and the NBA playoffs — because it’s hoops.”

Aya Cash (‘The Boys’): ‘The bad guys get to do the real fun stuff!’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
“The bad guys get to do the real fun stuff!” laughs Aya Cash, who stars as superhero Stormfront on Amazon Prime’s blockbuster action satire “The Boys.

Cash welcomed the opportunity to play a decidedly dark character on the show. “It’s really fun,” she admits, although hedging that there were times when playing the villain was harder than it looked. “The things that aren’t fun are the racial slurs. There’s no part of me that’s ‘ooh, this is enjoyable,’ it’s gross, you’re saying it to a real human being in front of you. That part feels bad. The rest of the stuff, even killing, it’s like being in a horror movie,” she explains. Watch our exclusive video interview with Cash above.

‘The Boys’ season 2 looks and sounds like a winner to guilds
Watchmen” broke the superhero barrier at the Emmys with its whopping 11 wins this year. That bodes well for Amazon Prime Video which has a strong contender in “The Boys,” its own take on the genre now in contention for its second season. “The Boys” premiered its second season on September 4, 2020 and stars Anthony Starr and Erin Moriarty as Homelander and Starlight, two superheroes aiming to steer a hero-as-product corporation known for its superhero group the “Seven” down the path of good rather than evil.

The first season flew too far under the radar to be noticed by voters. However, the sophomore edition of “The Boys” has landed with critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, season 1 holds a very respectable fresh rating of 84%, but increased that to a staggering 97% for season 2.

One of Amazon’s first original series was the alternate history show “Man in the High Castle,” a 10-time Emmy nominee that

‘The Boys’ Star Dominique McElligott on Maeve’s ‘Tentative Alliance’ With Starlight in Season 3

‘The Boys’ Star Dominique McElligott on Maeve’s ‘Tentative Alliance’ With Starlight in Season 3
(Warnings: This post contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “The Boys.”)

Maeve (Dominique McElligott) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty) might have been standing next to each other in pride solidarity in “The Boys” Season 2 finale, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to be friends any time soon. Yes, even though Maeve got Starlight back into the Seven by blackmailing Homelander — which she also did for Butcher (Karl Urban), Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), Elena (Nicola Correia-Damude) and herself — Elligott says that is a “tentative alliance for sure” heading into Season 3.

“I think with Maeve, she’s dealing with her own stuff,” the Amazon Prime Video series’ star told TheWrap. “When she sees Starlight, in Season 1 especially, Starlight was a little like a damsel in distress and Maeve was there saying, ‘Come on, pull yourself together.’ And it’s a little one-sided in that Maeve is always trying to help Starlight in some way.
