Laurence Fox’s highly misogynistic rant on Dan Wootton Tonight, which led to the actor and politician’s firing from Gb News, was Ofcom’s most-complained-about TV show of the year in 2023.
The episode in September, in which Fox ranted about journalist Ava Evans – saying no “self-respecting man would climb into bed with her” – narrowly beat complaints around Bridgerton star Adjoah Andoh’s comments during King Charles III’s Coronation to the top spot of the regulator’s annual list.
Fox was fired from Gb News following the rant, which generated nationwide headlines and amassed a total of 8,867 complaints, ahead of Andoh by around 200.
Ofcom investigated almost immediately due to the severity of the breach and it is one of a dozen Gb News shows that have been or are being probed by the regulator this year, with five already found to be in breach. Fox, who regularly featured on...

Nigel Farage has hit back at ITV programs boss Kevin Lygo for “rude, one-handed gestures” and “making life quite unpleasant for me” during his time on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
Farage, who came third over the weekend as the ITV juggernaut series concluded, used his Gb News show last night to issue a stern warning to Lygo, appearing to reference the executive mocking him during the ITV Palooza event late last month.
“It seems whilst I was in [I’m a Celebrity], one or two people up at the top of ITV were doing their best to make life quite unpleasant for me,” said Farage, who became the second controversial politician to enter the jungle in the past two years following Matt Hancock’s 2022 turn.

Nigel Farage failed in his quest to win I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last night as he finished third in the final of the ITV juggernaut, which saw viewing decline dramatically from last year’s closer.
Farage equalled former Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s finish last year, as ITV’s penchant for throwing controversial politicians into the jungle continued into 2023.
But the show lost a whopping 4M viewers from last year’s finale, tumbling to just 6.5M with a share of 42%, peaking with 7.5M. The show failed to even top the daily charts behind the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing results show. In 2022, 10.4M (54.2%) watched the final when footballer Jill Scott took home the crown. That ep peaked with 11.5M during a top-rated season. The launch of 2022 was also well up on 2023, by around 2M, although Gb News producer Ben Leo accidentally tweeted otherwise three weeks ago.

The inclusion of right-wing firebrand politician Nigel Farage and Jamie Lynn Spears in this year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! failed to spark gangbuster ratings for last night’s launch episode, although you wouldn’t think so reading Gb News producer Ben Leo’s X timeline.
Leo, who is in Australia covering the show featuring Gb News presenter Farage, tweeted this morning that the series opener had been watched by 9.1 million people and a peak of 10.3 million. The figure is in fact 7 million and 7.8 million respectively – I’m a Celeb’s lowest for several years. Leo appears to have been confusing last night’s ratings with 2022’s and hasn’t yet taken his tweet down, which led with “Farage Sparks Bombshell Ratings.”

It’s almost certainly going to be the only time in history the actor sister of a music megastar and a controversial former British politician spend time together in a jungle.
Jamie Lynn Spears, sister of Britney and an actress in Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101 and Sweet Magnolias, is one of 10 celebrity contestants cast in ITV’s latest season of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!.
She’ll appear opposite Nigel Farage, one of the key players behind the UK’s exit from the European Union in 2016. He remains a hugely divisive character in the UK.

Nick Mohammed has opened up about the moment from Ted Lasso’s season three premiere that reversed his expectations for the new season.
In the Apple TV+ footballing sitcom, Mohammed plays Nate Shelley, the former kitman at Richmond Fc, who, at the end of season two, becomes the series’ antagonist, and manager of West Ham.
Some fans had expected Nate to undergo a redemption arc in the new season, which began on Wednesday (15 March) on the streaming service.
Writing on social media, Mohammed admitted that he had been “desperate” to know about a potential redemption arc – only to be left stunned by one scene from the premiere.
“I distinctly remember receiving the first episode of season three desperate to know if the writers were going to lay the foundation for Nate’s possible redemption,” he wrote.
“Then I got to this scene and thought: ‘oh heck!’”

Regé-Jean Page has confessed that he and Bridgerton co-star Phoebe Dynevor’s on-screen sex scenes were not as romantic as they may have appeared.
The two starred as strangers who mutually use each other to avoid the courting season and eventually become lovers in the debut series of Netflix’s hit romance, which is set in England’s Regency era.
To fan dismay, Page left the show after its first season.
However, during a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the 32-year-old British-Zimbabwean actor was asked to reveal some secrets from the show.
“Phoebe and I had horrendous coffee breath the whole way through,” Page told the host.
“We made a pact early on. It’s one of the things that you do [as an actor]; you approach other actors and say, ‘Hey, the scene is after lunch. What are our rules? Are we no onions? Are we no garlic?...

Paris Hilton has spoken about feeling judged by Pink following the release of the singer’s “Stupid Girls” music video.

Pink parodied Hilton in the music video for her 2006 song “Stupid Girls”, in which the musician is shown in bed with a man in shots similar to the sex tape.

Frankie Boyle tore into Matt Hancock and Keir Starmer during an appearance on The Last Leg.
The Scottish comedian joined Adam Hills,Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker to talk about the week’s events, which included the leaking of former health secretary Hancock’s private WhatsApp messages sent during the pandemic.
Hancock criticised journalist Isabel Oakeshott, who provided the messages after ghostwriting his book Pandemic Diaries. He called the action a “massive betrayal of trust”.
The messages have prompted yet another backlash against Hancock, with Boyle saying on Friday (3 March): “Even his hairline is trying to disown him.”
He called out Hancock’s decision to appear on ITV series I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here, saying that he chose to lie in the ground “surrounded by worms” to try and make the country forget he had “killed their granny”.

Idris Elba has said it is “stupid” for people to criticise him for his decision to stop describing himself as a “Black actor”.
In an interview last month to promote his new Luther movie, the star, 50, had discussed the topic of race.
“As humans, we are obsessed with race,” he had told Esquire. “And that obsession can really hinder people’s aspirations, hinder people’s growth. Racism should be a topic for discussion, sure. Racism is very real. But from my perspective, it’s only as powerful as you allow it to be.
“I stopped describing myself as a Black actor when I realised it put me in a box. We’ve got to grow. We’ve got to. Our skin is no more than that: it’s just skin. Rant over.”
The remarks, which Elba caveated by saying “Of course, I’m a member of the Black community”, provoked much debate on social media.

“I was devastated,” she said. “It was easily one of my favorite sets that I’ve ever, ever been on. I was so devastated. I miss Ellie, and I’ve been wanting to go back to Ellie for a long time, but I was in Romania shooting Wednesday.

The joke writers at Have I Got News for You have shared a brutal dig following the publishing of Matt Hancock’s WhatsApp messages.
On Thursday (2 March), the former health secretary broke his silence after messages were leaked to the Daily Telegraph by Isabel Oakeshott, the journalist who helped him write his pandemic memoir.
Hancock stated that he was “hugely disappointed” by what he said was a “massive betrayal and breach of trust”.
A post on the official Twitter account of the BBC comedy show Have I Got News for You on Thursday took aim at Hancock over the scandal.
“As Matt Hancock describes leaking of text messages as ‘a massive betrayal’, his ex-wife says she knows the feeling,” the post read.
In summer 2021, just before he resigned as health secretary, Hancock left his wife of 15 years, Martha Hancock, for Gina Coladangelo, the aide he was pictured kissing at work...

Ant and Dec have been criticised for a prank on the opening episode of the new season of Saturday Night Takeaway.
Fans of the show were left upset last night (25 February) by a baby scan prank on a father-to-be.
Liam, described on the programme as a “serial jokester”, was pranked by wife Amy, who was in cahoots with ITV presenting duo Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly to get revenge on him.
The prank saw the couple (who were genuinely expecting a baby boy who has since been born) attend a fake scan, in which they were shown a video of a baby that was not theirs, making rock star signs when the Queen song “Bohemian Rhapsody” played.
In the clip of the prank happening, Liam says he is left “speechless” by what he’s seen.
Viewers were not impressed. “Fake baby scan?? Too far, nothing but cruel,” posted one fan on Twitter.

Drake’s comments come in spite of the fact that he was named the highest earner on Spotify in 2021.

Following a slew of serving U.K. politicians nabbing high-profile TV jobs, media regulator Ofcom has clarified the rules around such a career move.
The regulatory body has confirmed that politicians are allowed to present TV and radio shows but cautioned “there are some exceptions.”
In particular, because of Ofcom’s rules about impartiality, it dictates that serving politicians are not allowed to participate in any news programs as an anchor, interviewer or reporter “unless, exceptionally, it is editorially justified.” If it is the case a justification can be made, the audience must still be alerted to the politician’s political allegiance.
That leaves the political class free to host pretty much anything outside of news, including current affairs shows, although Ofcom warns: “they must make sure a range of views are reflected in their programme.” The only caveat is if they’re standing in an election or about to,...

Dave Bautista has shared his concerns over why he has not yet been offered a lead role in a romantic comedy.
Since the early 2010s, the former WWE star has established a successful acting career with roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films, Dune and in last year’s hit whodunit, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
However, Bautista has yet to tackle a role that allows him to explore a romantic connection on screen – and it’s something he’s keen to try out.
“I know I’m not your typical rom-com lead,” he reasoned to Page Six on Monday (30 January).
“I’m a little rough around the edges. But I always, you know, I look in the mirror and I say, I ask myself, ‘Am I that unattractive? Is there something that unappealing about me that excludes me from these parts?’

Kate Garraway held back tears as she confronted Matt Hancock over his breaking of lockdown guidelines in 2021.
The 55-year-old broadcaster’s husband, Derek Draper, was diagnosed with Covid in early 2020 and spent months in an induced coma.
The former health secretary resigned after CCTV images were leaked of him embracing then-aide Gina Coldangelo in his Whitehall office, breaking government guidelines in place at the time.
On Tuesday morning’s (31 January) episode of Good Morning Britain, Garraway told Hancock how her husband couldn’t see their children and challenged him over his appearance on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.
Talking about how Hancock broke his own rules, Garraway said: “I suppose the problem is you were the health secretary.

James Gunn has promised a more “unified” DC future going forward, outlining an extensive plan.
It’s been three months since Gunn and co-ceo Peter Safran took over DC studios in October, and in their first official meeting with the press on Monday (30 January), the two shared their vision, which includes 10 new projects.
Gunn argued that much of the company’s former disarray came from its loose policy regarding intellectual property.
“The history of DC is pretty f***ed up,” he said (via Variety). “They were just giving away IP like they were party favours to any creators.
“What we are going to do is we’re going to promise that everything from our first project forward is going to be unified. But we will say that we’ve gotten very lucky [inheriting these] next four projects.”

Alec Baldwin has been formally charged with involuntary manslaughter over the fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during a rehearsal on the New Mexico film set in 2021.
Prosecutors filed the felony charges against the actor, who allegedly pointed a gun at Hutchins that went off and fatally shot her, on Tuesday (31 January), according to Albuquerque TV station Koat.
Hutchins died after being struck by a live bullet at Bonanza Creek Ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe, New Mexico, on 21 October 2021. Joel Souza, the director of the film Rust, was also shot and injured but survived the incident.
Santa Fe district attorney Mary Carmavk-Altwies announced earlier this month that charges would be brought against both Baldwin and set armourer Hanna Gutierrez-Reed over the death.

CNN This Morning’s viewership ratings have continually declined since the show launched three months ago.
The new morning programme, featuring journalists Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins, kicked off on 1 November.
It premiered just one day after New Day, the show it was intended to replace, concluded on 31 October.
The show already got off to a rocky start, but according to viewing stats from Nielsen, last week CNN This Morning earned its lowest ratings since the show began, averaging 331,000 viewers.
Meanwhile, its competitors Fox & Friends and MSNBC’s Morning Joe drew nearly 1 million and 760,000 viewers apiece across the same time period.
When it first began, CNN This Morning averaged a total of 387,000 viewers. This was six per cent lower on a year-to-date perspective than the series premieres of New Day, which was led by Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota.
CNN’s new CEO Licht said at the time:...

Keanu Reeves has admitted just how hard he fought for Warner Bros to greenlight a Constantine sequel.
In September 2022, the studio confirmed a forthcoming sequel to the actor’s 2005 fantasy horror film – based on DC/Vertigo’s Hellblazer comics – in which he starred as suicide survivor and demon hunter John, who finds himself entangled in a supernatural plot between angelic and demonic forces.
The spin-off comes nearly two decades after the original was released, with Reeves admitting it took continued persistence before Warner Bros finally agreed to a sequel.
“I kept asking almost every year,” Reeves told Total Film (via MovieWeb). “I was like, [adopts Oliver Twist voice,] ‘Can I please have some more?’… I kept asking almost every year. I’d be like, ‘Can I please?’ [and] they’d be like, ‘No, no!’”

Ashton Kutcher has spoken about the rape allegations made against his former co-star Danny Masterson.
Kutcher’s That ‘70s Show and The Ranch castmate Masterson appeared in court in November, charged with allegedly raping three women, including a former girlfriend, at his home between 2001 and 2003.
Back in December, the case ended in mistrial after the jury were deadlocked and unable to reach a verdict. In January, prosecutors said that they would retry Masterson on all three counts, with the new trial scheduled for March.
In an interview with Esquire, Kutcher said Masterson had been the one to mentor and keep in line the young cast on That ‘70s Show, making the legal case particularly hard for him to watch.
Explaining that he was still in touch with Masterson and regularly speaks to his brother, Kutcher said that he worried about the impact of the case on his eight-year-old daughter.

Johnny Knoxville has responded to Hulu’s decision to scrap Reboot after just one season.

Showtime viewers have complained after a number of series were reportedly pulled from the US network’s streaming platform.
On Monday (30 January), it was also announced that Showtime was being integrated into Paramount’s main brand, and will be known going forward as Paramount+ With Showtime.
Among the original series to have been removed from the streaming service, per The Hollywood Reporter, are crime series American Gigolo, vampire drama Let the Right one In, and Kidding, starring Jim Carrey.
On Becoming a God in Central Florida and American Rust were also taken down from Showtime’s catalogue.
Showtime has seemingly become the latest platform to take advantage of the tax write-downs available for shows that have been removed from their catalogue.
Companies such as HBO Max have faced criticism from fans and creators for removing underperforming films and TV shows from their streaming catalogues, in order to maximise tax benefits.

Matt Hancock was grilled about his I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! fee on Tuesday’s edition (31 January) of Good Morning Britain.
The former health secretary, who was responsible for setting Covid guidelines during the early stages of the pandemic, finished in third place in last year’s run of the celebrity jungle survival competition.
Hancock stood down in May 2021 after he was caught breaking social distancing guidelines by embracing his then-colleague, Gina Coladangelo.
His appearance on I’m a Celebrity resulted in him having the Tory whip suspended, as he also received a fierce backlash from public figures and TV viewers.
More recently, it was revealed that he received £330,000 for his participation in the show – £10,000 of which he donated to charity.
On Tuesday’s edition of ITV1’s morning news programme, Hancock denied that money was the primary factor in his choice to appear on I’m a Celebrity.

Holly Willoughby fell prey to an unexpected on-air prank by This Morning co-presenter Phillip Schofield.
Schofield’s stunt caused Willoughby to walk off set in humourous admonishment, while viewers claim to have heard the host use explicit language in her immediate reaction.
The incident took place during Thursday’s (26 January) episode of the popular ITV morning show, when the presenters discussed M Night Shyamalan’s new horror film, Knock at the Cabin.
Introducing the next segment, which featured interviews with castmembers Rupert Grint and Ben Aldridge, Schofield suddenly yelled out mid-sentence, causing Willoughby to react in shock.
While Willoughby cannot be heard clearly swearing, she makes a sound that closely resembles the start of an “F-bomb”, and then immediately covers her mouth with her hand.
“I haven’t done that for a while,” Schofield said, as his co-star looked around in shock. “It’s perfect.”

During Thursday (26 January) morning’s episode of Vine’s Channel 5 show, the presenter was joined by his panellists to discuss a study by Samsung claiming that more than three million pensioners play video games every day.
Former Tory minister Widdecombe, 75, was among the guests and sat down to play a game of Mario Kart, which she did not enjoy.
Vine asked Purkiss, a podcaster and regular panellist on the show, what she thought, to which she responded: “There are probably better games for you, Ann.
“For example, I used to love Grand Theft Auto. It tells you how to prosper in a criminal world, like being in the Tory party. You’d love it.”
Vine stifled laughter, telling Purkiss: “There we are. It’s always gotta happen.

Robbie Williams has opened up about his decision to leave Take That, calling the situation at the time a “burning building” from which he had to escape.
The singer first made his name as one-fifth of the Nineties boyband, alongside Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, and Jason Orange.
After joining the band at age 16 in 1990, Williams quickly became a fan favourite and provided lead vocals for some of Take That’s earliest hits, including “Could It Be Magic?” (1992).
He left the band in July 1995, a decision which sparked much media attention and fan upset. Take That disbanded in February 1996, before reuniting as a quartet, without Williams, in 2005. Williams, meanwhile, went on to become a successful solo artist.
A new programme for BBC Sounds, titled Robbie Williams: My Life Thru a Lens, sees the recording artist taking a retrospective look at his career on the 25th anniversary of his first solo album.

Thomas St John was the “Gold Digger” musician’s senior financial advisor for 18 months but is now said to be suing him over lack of payment.
In court papers filed on Monday 19 December, Thomas sought more time to serve the lawsuit papers to West, as he’s been unable to locate the rapper.
West, also known as Ye, is named as the defendant on the court documents, alongside Yeezy LLC.
According to the papers, obtained by The US Sun, Thomas is seeking an extension of time to serve West.
As well as not being able to reach West directly, Thomas and his team have reportedly had difficulty reaching legal representatives for the divisive musician and entrepreneur.

Avatar: The Way of Water has passed the 1bn (£830m) mark at the global box office within two weeks of its release.
All eyes have been on the figures of James Cameron’s sequel, considering it is one of the most expensive films of all time.
It also has large shoes to fill given The Way of Water is the follow-up to 2009’s Avatar, which became the highest-grossing film of all time.
Since its release on 14 December, the film has made more than 300m (£249m) domestically in the US and approximately another 700m (£581m) from overseas.
These figures make The Way of Water the third film in 2022 to hit the milestone of 1bn (£830m), coming just after Jurassic World Dominion (1.003bn / £833m ) and Top Gun: Maverick (1.488bn / £1.24bn).
At the time of writing, Cameron’s big-budget sequel is on the way to overtaking Dominion on that list, and is expected...

Paul Schrader has shared critical input regarding the “putative historicity” of Damien Chazelle’s Babylon.
Oscar-winning director Chazelle’s newest romance-drama, starring Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt, chronicles the rise and fall of several ambitious Hollywood dreamers during the transition from silent to sound films in the late 1920s.
Since its release in US cinemas late last week (23 December), the film has been a box office flop, with some headlines and social media users seemingly blaming Robbie for its poor performance. However, others have come to the star’s defence.
The movie had also received mixed reviews and currently sits at a mediocre Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 55 per cent.
Now, renowned American Gigolo director Schrader has added to the divisive discourse surrounding the movie, questioning how “well-researched” it is.
“Babylon is many things but well-researched isn’t one of them,” Schrader recently wrote on Facebook.
