“Survivor” players know that only one person can win the game, but it always stings to be the first one eliminated. The pain of being booted first from your season has to be a difficult one to get over, especially for those who really wanted to play the game. First boots are often targeted because of age or challenge performance or etiquette around camp, and it’s sad to see people’s torch be snuffed after only three days on the island. Some early vote-offs make such an impression, however, that they are remembered even today. Above you can scroll through our gallery (or click here for direct access) of 20 memorable “Survivor” first boots, listed in order of appearance. We hope they get another chance to play again one day.

Remember all those unfortunate players like Francesca Hogi and Pat Cusack who got voted out first in their seasons of “Survivor”? Well, you want them all invited back to compete in an all-losers season. That’s just one of the many wish list items that “Survivor” fans made in response to my personal Christmas wish list for CBS’s long-running reality TV show. As a refresher, my ideas included an all-winners season, “Celebrity Survivor,” the return of the hour-long results show and new exotic locations. See more of Your fun ideas below.

Another fan-made suggestion is the return of the reward steal advantage that was first introduced in “Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X.” As you may recall, Adam Klein initially found that advantage at the merge feast but decided to give it to Jay Starrett instead of playing it himself.

“Black Mirror” isn’t known for its optimism, but digital dating expert Francesca Hogi says the episode “Hang the DJ” contains a hopeful message for the lovelorn: “Even in online dating hell, soulmates still exist.” TheWrap asked Hogi for insights into “Hang the DJ,” which focuses on two singles using a futuristic matchmaking program called The System. Hogi, a love and life coach and co-founder of an upcoming dating platform called Sonar, seemed like the perfect person to look into Netflix’s deep dark truthful mirror: She’s a frequent expert on NBC’s “Today” and former film producer and lawyer (seriously,...

For weeks, every booted contestant has named Andrea Boehlke as one of the most aggressive players on Survivor: Caramoan - so it was just a matter of time before the 23-year-old entertainment host and writer was given the boot. Blindsided on Day 33, Boehlke talks about her aggressive gameplay, the worst showmance ever and whom she blames for her elimination. They started the season of Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites in very different places. On the Fans tribe, Reynold Toepfer found himself on the outs pretty much immediately after trying to form a young hotties alliance that simply didn’t have the numbers. Over on the Favorites beach, however, Andrea Boehlke, made an immediate power play against her former fellow Redemption Island cast member and New York City pal Francesca Hogi, sending her former friend home and putting herself in the middle of the dominant alliance.
But both Reynold and Andrea ended up in the same place and on the same episode — the jury.

Survivor Review, Season 26, Episode 12
“The Beginning of the End”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
In the very first episode of Survivor: Caramoan, Andrea faced serious danger by playing way too hard. She went after Francesca and received four votes from the minority group. The favorites’ dominance kept her off the radar for a while, but she’s survived a few close calls. Andrea’s chosen a risky game all season, and she faces the music this week. Once the other favorites learn that she’s targeting Brenda, they turn the tables and blindside her in the episode’s second Tribal Council. When Reynold falls off the perch in the first immunity challenge, his fate is sealed. He exits gracefully, and Eddie seems like the obvious next target. Like the departing Malcolm last week, it’s Andrea’s attempts to make a move that doom her fate. Her...

Phillip Sheppard, a.k.a. The Specialist, is the latest person voted out of "Survivor: Caramoan." He tells Zap2it
Are you glad you went back on "Survivor"?
"Absolutely. It's a wonderful opportunity to go back and show that not only can I bring back Stealth R Us and have fun out there and try to win a million dollars -- My first goal was to win a million dollars. My second goal was to show people that not only did I play a strategic game the first time I played ... but I also observed some things that Boston Rob did out there and I'm going to talk about those things and incorporate them into this season, so people can realize Phillip is a strategic player. He's a big enough of a threat, as we saw last night, when I was voted out of the game, to play two Idols.

“Persona Non Grata”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
When Survivor announced their cast of returning players for this second “Fans vs. Favorites” season, the one that stood out was Brandon Hantz. Although he provided memorable television in his first appearance, he’s also an unstable guy who demonstrated awful gameplay. Putting him back on the island felt like a bad idea, and it was only a matter of time before he lost his marbles. When his fragile state combines with nasty weather conditions and other volatile personalities, it creates a powder keg that’s ready to explode. This week, a minor squabble with Phillip winds up Brandon and pushes him to new levels of rage. His choice to dump out the rice and beans is stunning even when compared to other wild moves. Survivor: Caramoan may have offered up the least desired group of "favorites" ever, but the premiere episode delivered on all the glorious strategizing and flip-flopping. Unfortunately, it led to Francesca making history as the only two-time first evictee. I'll miss her wit and offhanded remarks, but luckily the second episode offers up enough excitement for me to get over her absence.

Survivor just isn't Francesca Hogi's game.
The 38-year-old New York lawyer first played the game in 2011's Survivor: Redemption Island, where she was the first contestant booted. Returning for Survivor: Caramoan, she threatened to "drown herself" if she were the first one voted out. She even picked up a rock and said she would eat it if she were the first to go.
Sure enough, at tribal council, she was the first one to go. (She says she'll follow through on the rock-eating promise at the reunion if Jeff Probst can produce that very same rock for her.

Francesca Hogi made a bit of "Survivor" history when she became the first person to be the first person voted out twice. But she's taking it all in stride, she tells Zap2it.
So. It must really stink to be the first person out twice.
"Yeah. It's not the best thing that's ever happened to me for sure. But it's also not the worst. I think that since I did go out first the first time, it's better, if I'm gonna lose, it's better that I suffer less than more. Nineteen people are going to lose this season, so at least I got to go out first and suffer the least and make some history. I get to be at one end of the spectrum, playing twice and being first out twice. Sandra's at the other end, playing twice and winning twice and everybody else is in between us.

Perhaps one of the more surprising additions to the "Favorites" team on the new season of "Survivor: Caramoan" was Francesca. She was on the same season as Federal Agent Phillip Sheppard, and quickly got on his bad side. Their memorable feud is the only reason people remember Francesca, as she wound up the first person eliminated that season.
Now she was back and determined not to go out like that again. And she was facing off against Phillip again. In the Immunity Challenge, the Favorites tribe did a great job of proving themselves formidable, but it came down to a bean toss. The Fans threw up a guy who just nailed them so quickly Jeff Probst barely had time for a play-by-play.
Thus, the Favorites were headed to Tribal Council. And then it happened. For the first time in "Survivor" history, someone was voted out first on two different seasons.

Survivor: Caramoan Review, Season 26, Episode 1
“She Annoys Me Greatly”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
For their second version of “Fans vs. Favorites”, the Survivor producers are clearly going for memorable television with their returning players. There are few examples of people who dominated their original seasons, and only one made the Final Tribal Council. A surprising choice is Francesca, who was voted out first in the Redemption Island season. She was good television and clearly knows the game, so bringing her back is an exciting change of pace. Strangely, Francesca enters this new season with a reputation as a strategist despite her limited time. Her former tribe mate Phillip is also back with her again, so the risk is high for a quick exit. Despite the dangers of repeating her prior difficulties, she falls into the same traps. "Survivor's" back, you guys! I'm extra excited because I only got to cover part of last season because of maternity leave. It seems like I've been away so long! I need me some Jeff Probst.
Who's excited about Fans vs. Favorites II: Electric Boogaloo? We aren't sure how many of the returning players are "favorites," but it's a fun group, so that's Ok.
It's rather awesome the Fans are on a boat and the Faves are in 'copters. Dramatic entrance, indeed. Out of the Faves, we're excited to see Dawn and Phillip the most. Dawn because she's awesome, and Phillip because he's cuckoo for cocoa puffs. Brandon? We are not so excited to see. We've had enough of the Hantz family, thanks. And Brandon definitely isn't as interesting as either of his uncles.

Survivor 26,Fans vs Favorites eliminated Francesca Hogi in episode 1 tonight. Tonight's premiere episode ,kicked off with a brief intro of the new Fans cast. Then they introduced the Favorites cast, which consisted of : Andrea Boehlke, Brandon Hantz, Brenda Lowe, Corinne Kaplan, Dawn Meehan, Erik Reichenbach, Francesca Hogi, John Cochran, Phillip Sheppard, and Malcolm Freberg. From there, they quickly did their first rewards challenge, and the Favorites won it,leaving the Fans on the outs to set up their camp. Also, I really don't understand how some of these people were brought back as favorites. After a break, they showed some conversation footage .Francesca already started to get on Phillip's nerves. Meanwhile, the Fans got all excited over making a fire. Phillip started making plans to get Corinne ,Andrea,Malcolm,John Cochran ,and Erik together for an alliance. However, Erik really didn't want to roll with Phillip because he's...

Someone save Jeff Probst! That was my thinking after watching the first few minutes of the Survivor: Carmaoan — Fans vs. Favorites premiere (which airs tonight at 8pm on CBS). I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him deliver his big “1 Survivor” line and wondered, “How did they do that? And how is he still alive?” But I did this time. And you can see what I’m talking about as we exclusively present the first five minutes of the premiere right her and right now for your perusal. In it, you will get to see how both the Fans and Favorites arrive,...

Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites premieres tonight with a special 90-minute episode on CBS. It’s a season that Probst is already predicting will go down as one of the show’s best ever. With season 26 now set for lift-off (and you can watch the first five minutes of the premiere right here), we invited Probst to stop by EW studio — basically, an empty office next to mine — and take stock of the Survivor franchise. And stop by he did. On the newest InsideTV Podcast, Probst explains why returning players are here to stay, why he does not let...

'Survivor: Caramoan': Returning Favorite Erik on why this season is 'like the Island of Misfit Toys'
For years, the undisputed titleholder when it came to Dumbest Survivor Move Ever was none other than Erik Reichenbach. It was a well-earned (dis)honor bestowed upon the ice cream scooper from Hell (Michigan) after he gave away his immunity necklace on Survivor: Micronesia…only to be voted out moments later. But Erik was a trendsetter as well! Since then, Jt gave his hidden immunity idol to Russell in Heroes vs. Villains, and Brandon Hantz handed his immunity over to Albert in Survivor: South Pacific. In both instances it was not better to give than to receive, as those...

There has been a lot of talk about how many of the returning players brought back for Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites (premiering Feb. 13 on CBS) were not actually very good players their first time around. One contestant who did have some serious game in her first outing, however, is Brenda Lowe. Brenda worked herself into a position of power in Survivor: Nicaragua, but then made two fatal errors: She got too comfortable in her perch, and then did not scramble hard enough to stay once it became evident that the votes may have shifted against her. Now, Brenda...

Jeff Probst has defended the Favorites coming back to play Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites (premiering Feb. 13 on CBS) as good players. He has explained when they first decided to bring Malcolm back, and opined that Brandon Hantz was indeed psychologically stable enough to return. He even told us which returning players would not come back to play again for this season. But we have not heard his take on some of the newbies who will be making up the tribe of Fans. Until now. I asked Probst to pick out some of the new faces we should be keeping an eye on,...

Survivor: Caramoan Preview
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Premieres February 13
In his interviews during the very entertaining Survivor: Philippines season last fall, Jeff Probst claimed that the next installment would be even better. While this could just be an attempt to draw viewers, it still raises the intrigue for the show’s 26th chapter. The hook is the return of 10 past contestants for a second Fans vs. Favorites battle. It repeats the format of season 14, which took place in Micronesia. The returning players dominated that game and took the top three spots, with Parvati winning the top prize. The fans were not good players and star struck during the early going. This time, the show has pulled “favorites” almost solely from recent seasons. The familiar group is skewed towards craziness over stellar game play and includes few players who dominated their original seasons. Thankfully, everyone has appeared once previously,...

I remember being out on location for Survivor: South Pacific and standing on the Savaii beach on day two. One person in particular was in trouble, and that person was Dawn Meehan. A longtime super-fan of the show who had first applied back for season 2, her dream had finally come true and she had made it onto the show. But now, just 24 hours after her adventure had started, that dream was turning into a nightmare. Sitting in a tribe full of younger, less clothed flirts and frolickers, Dawn wasn’t fitting in. And it was killing her. Imagine waiting 10 years for your moment to come,...

It’s hard to interview someone returning to play Survivor when you haven’t even seen how or what they did the first time around. That was the situation when I spoke with Malcolm Freberg in May 2012 as he was getting ready to depart for Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites (premiering Feb. 13 on CBS). It was only two weeks after he had finished filming Survivor: Philippines (which would not air for another four months). Luckily, I did have a few things to go on. I had met and spoken with Malcolm on location for that season, and had watched...

If you blinked, you might have missed her. Francesca Hogi was the first person voted out of Survivor: Redemption Island, and the first person ousted from the game after she lost a duel. But even though she only lasted three days on her tribe, what an impression she made — going right after Boston Rob and then sparring with Phillip Sheppard about (among other things) the pronunciation of her name. I loved Francesca in our Redemption Island pre-game interview and was thoroughly bummed when she was booted so early. So I was pleasantly surprised when I learned she was being brought...

Is Phillip Sheppard a character, or was he merely playing one when he appeared on Survivor: Redemption Island? Walking around in pink undies and an occasional feather on his head, Phillip acted crazy and often drove his tribemates equally nutty with his behavior — which included mispronouncing one of their names and complaining about a lack of burnt rice. But the player insists that it was all a well-designed ruse to get him to the end of the game, and get to the end he did thanks to Boston Rob. Now, Phillip is back as one of the familiar faces returning...

In light of the almost daily emotional breakdowns Brandon Hantz suffered while playing Survivor: South Pacific — including his odd obsession with female contestant Mikayla, popping off for no reason at Tribal Council, teary confessionals, and then being manipulated into giving away his immunity before being voted off — many wondered if he could really handle such an experience all over again, especially when you consider the stress that comes with trying to outwit strangers while starving out in the elements. Those questions popped up again after my bizarre interview with Brandon that took place just days before filming on Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs.

As a contestant on Survivor: Redemption Island, Andrea Boehlke is best known as the person that betrayed her island beau, joining with Boston Rob and the rest of his brainwashed minions to send poor Matt straight back to Redemption Island — even as he was trying to realign with them. (Ouch!) In truth, she was in a bit of a bad spot since Matt went and told Rob how the two of them had been approached about flipping — leading to Rob’s decision to once again cut the cord. Andrea did not do a lot else to distinguish herself that season,...

When I first perused the names of the 10 returning players coming back to play in Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites, I was struck by one thing: How bad so many of them were. Not bad people, necessarily, but people that had performed really poorly in the game. And I wasn’t the only person to notice. When I spoke to returnee Malcolm Freberg before filming in May 2012, he noted that the male cast was filled with men that were best known for making bonehead mistakes.
One of the men that made those mistakes, John Cochran, went even a step...

CBS has announced the 20-castaway field for "Survivor: Caramoan - Fans vs Favorites," a group that includes 10 returning players. The "Favorites" group, all part of the Bikal tribe, includes last season's well-respected Malcolm Freberg, as well as Erik Reichenbach, who is also a veteran of the previous "Fans vs. Favorites" installment in Micronesia. Concentrating entirely on recent seasons and entirely on non-winners (mostly non-finalists), the "Favorites" tribe is led by a trio of "Survivor: Redemption Island" players, with Phillip Sheppard, Francesca Hogi and Andrea Boehlke representing the group that was crushed by Boston Rob. Also landing three players...

The 10 players who will be returning to take on 10 newbies on Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs Favorites have now been announced. Although many of these alleged all-stars are more noteworthy for their blunders in the game as opposed to any sort of strategic prowess, they are undeniably a group of big personalities, if not big gamers. Now, Jessica Shaw and I break down each of the 10 returnees — whether we are happy to see them back and how they may do the second time around. Will Brandon have another meltdown? Should the others trust Cochran? And will Phillip and Francesca kill each other?...
