Tegan and Sara weren’t kidding when they said they were making a music video for every song off their latest album, Love You To Death. Nearly three weeks after dropping the clip for “White Knuckles,” the duo are back with a video for “Stop Desire.”
The clip marks the eighth video to release from the record, and the song is one of the catchiest in the band’s entire catalog. The video itself is light hearted and humorous, as Tegan and Sara go about their day whilst everyone around them has a bit of a dirty mind. Just when you thought doing laundry, heading to the post office, or taking a trip to the local farmers’ market were innocent activities, “Stop Desire” will make you think again. Allister Ann (Owl City, The Civil Wars) directed the video, and the band says that they wanted to “marry the high-energy” of...

Oh mama! Here is the single "Woman (Oh Mama)" from Joy Williams, one-half of the now-dissolved folk group The Civil Wars. With hand-claps, chanting, marimba churning and minor harmonies, we're getting a very distinctive Zulu vibe, which may send you reeling toward your copy of "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts." "Woman" is off of Williams' forthcoming album "Venus," due this summer. Getting a very lady vibe here.

Not bad for a 17-year-old.

The beloved folk duo has officially called it quits.
Sad news in the music world this week as we officially say goodbye to The Civil Wars.
The beloved folk duo has truly called it quits after going on hiatus in November 2012 over what they called "internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition." Nevertheless, their sophomore self-titled album debuted atop the Billboard 200 just months later in 2013.
In a press release issued Tuesday, the Nashville pair bid farewell to their fans and offered up a final song (more on that later).
"I am saddened and disappointed by the ending of this duo, to say the very least," said vocalist Joy Williams. "Jp is a tremendous musician, and I will always be grateful for the music we were able to create together."
Williams also noted that she will continue to create new music. "I'm excited to share the music that I am writing and recording in the midst of this...

The Civil Wars, the music duo comprised of Joy Williams and John Paul White, are officially breaking up.

It’s been a long time coming, and despite the hopeful prayers of their fans, The Civil Wars is a band no longer.
Joy Williams and John Paul White announced the news today (August 5), though they’ve been on indefinite hiatus since 2012 due to “internal discord and irreconcilable difference of ambition.”
Ms. Williams, who has been pretty vocal about everything up to this point, explained, "I am saddened and disappointed by the ending of this duo, to say the very least. Jp is a tremendous musician, and I will always be grateful for the music we were able to create together."
"Looking ahead, I'm excited to share the music that I am writing and recording in the midst of this difficult transition. I've loved being back in the studio, and have missed performing live. I look forward to seeing you soon."
And as has been his custom, White completely neglected to mention his music-making mate.

Even though they separated more than a year ago, Joy Williams and John Paul White officially announced The Civil Wars’ divorce today. And they gave us all a little parting gift to remember them by to blunt the pain of realizing they are never, ever getting back together. By the time the duo released its more recent album, “The Civil Wars,” in June 2013, they were already on “hiatus,” so this news comes as a surprise to no one. The Nashville-based duo burned brightly in its short time in the spotlight, winning Grammys for best country duo/group performance and best folk album in 2012 for 2011’s “Barton Hollow.” They also performed with Taylor Swift on "Safe & Sound," a T Bone Burnett-produced track on "The Hunger Games" soundtrack. In a statement posted on their website, Williams commented, “I am saddened and disappointed by the ending of this duo, to say the very least.

After being on hiatus for a full year, country duo The Civil Wars, whose debut album Barton Hollow won two Grammys for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Folk Album in 2012, has officially broken up.
That same year, a rift occurred between band members Joy Williams and John Paul White, one that was reportedly so bad that they stopped speaking to one another. A second album, titled The Civil Wars, was released in 2013, and fans noted a darker and more brooding edge to the songs – likely a result of it being recording as the conflict between Williams and White occurred. At the time, the only reason The Civil Wars gave for cancelling its tour and going on hiatus was “internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition.” Now, it appears that the band is done for good.
Neither have clarified exactly why the rift occurred, though Williams told Entertainment Weekly...

The New Zealand superstar has been picked to curate the soundtrack for “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1.” Additionally, she will have the lead single from the set. Many of us remember where we were on June 25th, 2009, the day that Michael Jackson tragically died of cardiac arrest as a result of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication.
And while we’re still sad to have lost him, the late King of Pop’s legacy will continue to live on forever through his music.
On the fifth anniversary of Jackson’s death, we celebrate his life with five amazing cover versions of his hits, proving that his influence is still strongly felt anywhere music is played.

Meanwhile, a few of the big winners tonight included George Strait taking home Entertainer of the Year and Kacey Musgraves scoring the prize for New Artist of the Year.
Taylor earned a couple early wins this morning, winning the trophy for Musical Event of the Year and Music Video of the Year for her collaboration with Tim McGraw and Keith Urban on "Highway Don't Care."

For the inconceivable fourth-straight year, married couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert took home their respective Vocalist of the Year awards at the Cma Awards. Keep reading to find out who else took home an award!
Hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley started country music's biggest awards show with an opening that the nation will be buzzing about in the morning.
The two first addressed feuds in country music by delivering a duet of "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and then decided to lightheartedly start their own outrageous feuds (e.g., Brad Paisley vs. Kenny Rogers; Darius Rucker vs. Julianne Hough).
The well-orchestrated comedy skit continued with a satire of the rocky launch of Obamacare via a spin on George Strait's "Amarillo By Morning" ("Obamacare by morning, over six people served"), and an applause for Taylor Swift for keeping her clothes on unlike her female pop music counterparts.

First-time Cma nominees Florida Georgia Line will also be first-time winners according to our predictors, who give them field-leading 3/10 odds to win Vocal Duo of the Year. But to do so they'll have to get past a pair of previous victors. Sugarland won this category for five consecutive years (2007-2011) before finally losing to Thompson Square in 2012. But this year Thompson Square ranks third with 12/1 odds, while Sugarland trails in fourth with 25/1 odds. -Break- If anyone beats Florida Georgia Line it will more likely be The Civil Wars, whom our predictors place second with 10/1 odds. But a win for them might very well be their last; the duo announced an indefinite hiatus late in 2012 due to "irreconcilable differences." Despite the discord, their self-titled second album was released to critical acclaim and strong record sales this past August. The two remaining nominees are unlikely to threaten: Love and Theft and Big and Rich...

Not so very long ago, The Civil Wars’ Joy Williams and John Paul White actually liked each other and enjoyed each other’s company. The now -defunct duo look back to that time in the video for “Dust To Dust,” the haunting second single from the pair’s sophomore self-titled set. The video features what they claim to be found footage from a 2011 trip to Paris. Yeah, “found” footage, just like “Blair Witch Project” or “Paranormal Activity.” Watch them stroll in Paris. Enjoy the cafes and book stores vicariously. Seriously, it’s a clever way to deal with how to create a video...

“Atlas,” Coldplay’s new song for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” finally surfaced today after a two-week delay. While instantly recognizably Coldplay, with Chris Martin’s delicate piano playing at the forefront, it’s also much less bombastic than some typical Coldplay fare. Instead, it’s quietly dramatic, as Martin vows “I’ll carry your world” with a growing intensity. There’s something lovely and haunting about it, though it doesn’t immediately grab hold like “Safe & Sound” from Taylor Swift & The Civil Wars from the first “Hunger Games” installment did. Coldplay wrote the track, the band’s first new song in nearly two years, specifically for...

ABC Family on Tuesday unveiled the first official trailer for its upcoming Pretty Little Liars spin-off Ravenswood — and with it comes the promise that “a curse” (and feathers!) “will fall” on those inhabiting the eery titular town.
Set to The Civil Wars’ haunting anthem “The One That Got Away,” the promo follows Ravenswood‘s five core characters — including departing Liars‘ fave Caleb (played by Tyler Blackburn) — as they venture through the city and straight to the cemetery first seen on the mothership series.

The first official trailer for ‘Ravenswood’ is finally here! Are you more excited for the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ spin-off than ever?
ABC Family knows its loyal fans hate waiting — for anything — so in anticipation of Ravenswood‘s Oct. 22 series premiere, the network has released the first official trailer for the Pretty Little Liars spin-off!
We got our first taste of the spin-off’s spooky setting when Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Toby (Keegan Allen) paid the town a visit earlier this season on Pretty Little Liars, and we’ll get an even closer look when the girls travel there on the Aug. 27 summer finale! Though the whole town kind of looks like it exists in an Instagram filter — sadly, I can’t credit for that brilliant comparison — it’s still pretty terrifying.

After weeks of reigning the top spot, Robin Thicke's “Blurred Lines” has been bumped from the number one spot on Billboard’s album chart this week.
So just who took over the coveted title? That would be, The Civil Wars and their new self-titled album which has sold an impressive 116,000 copies.
This is the first-ever number one album from Joy Williams and John Paul White, as their previous chart high was in 2012 when their album Barton Hollow which sold 36,000 copies after they performed on the Grammy awards.

The Civil Wars have finally hit No. 1 -- too bad they won't be celebrating together. The presently defunct duo's new self-titled album tops the Billboard 200 chart this week, after selling 116,000 copies. Despite their peak in popularity, Civil Wars members Joy Williams and John Paul White are currently on hiatus, due to "internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition." This week's sales obliterate the act's previous sales week record, when their full-length debut, "Barton Hollow," moved 36,000 copies after the 2012 Grammy Awards. Meanwhile, "Now 47," the latest is a seemingly endless series of pop compilations, debuts at No. 2...

London, Aug 11 (Reuters) - American singer and actress Miley Cyrus notched up her first number one hit in the British singles chart on Sunday with "We Can't Stop", a new entry, the Official Charts Company said.
Cyrus, the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, sold 128,000 copies of the track in the last seven days scoring what was also her first top ten single in Britain, it said.
Her success ended Swedish DJ and producer Avicii's three-week spell at the top of the British singles charts with "Wake Me Up", which slipped to second place.
In the albums chart, Welsh classical singers Richard and Adam Johnson held onto the number one slot for a second week with their debut release, "The Impossible Dream".
A new entry from Civil Wars, their closest competitors, entitled "The Civil Wars", went straight in at number two, unseating English singer Jahmene Douglas whose "Love Never Fails" fell to fifth.

One of the biggest rock bands in the world is teaming up with one of the biggest movie franchises. In what would be their first new release since their 2011 album Mylo Xyloto, Coldplay has recorded a song for the highly anticipated sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
The song is titled Atlas and will be released on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013. "We are so honored that Coldplay, one of the iconic rock bands of our generation, will perform the first song out on the new soundtrack," said Tracy McKnight, Lionsgate's Head of Film Music. The concentrated romantic themes of the Civil War’s debut album ‘Barton Hollow’ and the performances that
followed on their tours led many listeners to believe duo John Paul White and Joy Williams were a couple. Late last year this was proved to be very far from the truth when the group cancelled a UK tour and announced an indefinite hiatus due to ‘internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition.’ It seemed the success of their debut had driven a wedge between the duo.
It was some surprise when it was announced that a self-titled album of new material was to be released on a major label. Fortunately for us, much of the work on this record had been completed before the rift became an impasse. For anyone with any doubt, lead single ‘The One That Got Away’ did not signal reconciliation and is certainly not...
