Epic Rap Battles Of History, the Emmy-nommed digital series that pits figures from pop culture and history against one another in highly-produced hip hop duals, is readying its comeback after an expansive two-year hiatus.
Season six of the series, which is created by Peter Shukoff and Lloyd Ahlquist -- better known to the channel’s 14 million subscribers as Nice Peter and Epic Lloyd -- is set to bow next spring. The guys teased the return of the series in a video on their channel today (below), which also revealed that fans won’t have to wait until next year for a taste of new content: a bonus episode -- in which Shukoff and Ahlquist will battle against one another as themselves -- is set to drop next Friday.
Epic Rap Battles went on hiatus after its last episode in Jan. 2017 -- in which Shukoff and Ahlquist also faced off against one another.

In a typical round of the popular video game Fortnite: Battle Royale, 100 players drop into a dynamic environment to fight one another until only a single group of survivors remains. In creator Dan Bull's latest video, however, the featured players within a Fortnite game do battle with words rather than weapons. Bull, a Brit known for rapping about nerdy subject matter, collaborated with 99 other creators to launch a "Fortnite Rap Battle Royale."
While some of the creators featured in Bull's collaborations are known for their music, many others ply their respective trades as gamers or vloggers. If you spend a lot of time on YouTube, you'll recognize familiar names like Boogie2988, Jacksfilms, and GassyMexican within Bull's video.

It’s been nearly four months since the last Epic Rap Battles of History episode, and If you’re jonesing for a fix, that show’s co-creator has a new web series out that just might be the next best thing. Lloyd Ahlquist, known online as EpicLLOYD, has shared the first four episodes of Epic Studios on his personal YouTube channel.
Epic Studios stars Ahlquist as a man who inherits a dilapidated studio from his deceased rock star father. Upon arriving in Toronto to check out the facility, Ahlquist finds he’ll have a lot of work to do if he wants to bring Epic Studios to a respectable place. Each episode of his saga is accompanied by its own musical number, with frequent Erb collaborator Zach Sherwin contributing to the songwriting team. In the premiere, for example, Ahlquist laments not googling Epic Studios before agreeing to take it over.

Thanks to his work on Epic Rap Battles of History (Erb), Lloyd Ahlquist can say that he co-created one of the most esteemed, awarded, and successful web series of all time. Now, he has another show to add to his portfolio. Ahlquist has shared the trailer for Epic Studios, a musical comedy that will arrive on his EpicLLOYD YouTube channel on April 26th.
In Epic Studios, Ahlquist portrays the inheritor of a recording space who must work together with his ragtag group of employees to keep the business afloat. Along the way, viewers can expect several elements that are also hallmarks of Erb, as Epic Studios is also a blend of music, comedy, and delightfully low-budget green-screen effects. As its trailer shows, its 13 episodes will include 13 new music videos, with Ahlquist showing off his lyrical chops as well as his acting skills.

A web series that has been in Maker Studios’ developmental pipeline for more than a year has finally arrived. Ithamar Has Nothing To Say, a comedy executive produced by Key & Peele duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, is now available on the Maker.TV platform.
Ithamar Has Nothing To Say is based off the wordless comedy act of its star, Ithamar Enriquez. In the six-part series, Ithamar comes to the United States and interacts with the locals. The result is a slapstick offering that is somewhere between a Mr. Bean episode and a satire of American culture.
As with other series distributed by Maker Studios, Ithamar Has Nothing To Say features many guest appearances from the network’s creative partners. YouTube stars who show up in the first episode include Kassem G and EpicLloyd. Key and Peele are in there too, as a pair of talent agents who evaluate Ithamar’s act.

YouTube has a new way to officially recognize content creators who’ve finally reached the 9-figure subscriber count. At VidCon on July 23, 2015, Google’s online video site revealed its new diamond-level YouTube Play Button award for creators who hit the all-impressive milestone of ten million subscribers.
YouTube’s VP of Product Management Matthew Glotzbach took to the industry stage at the end of the industry track’s closing keynote speech by YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki. Glotzbach explained how YouTube had previously created the silver- and gold-tier Play Button awards (bestowed at 100,000 and one million subscribers respectively), but hadn’t quite foreseen the need for an award for ten million subscribers.
But now, Glotzbach said over 35 different YouTube creators have ten million subscribers or more. Therefore, YouTube created the diamond Play Button, which Glotzbach had Wojcicki unveil on stage in all its sparkly glory.

YouTube Space La was recently overtaken by Skynet, but in a good way. The venue played host to a Terminator-themed campaign involving several popular YouTubers like Olga Kay and Lilly Singh (or IISuperwomanII to the online video masses).
The Terminator campaign shoot took place over three days. In addition to Kay and Singh, YouTube brought in Woody Tondorf of Machinima, Toby Turner, and Matthew Santoro to film promotional videos for the upcoming Terminator: Genisys film from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. YouTubers Richard Ryan (RatedRR), Joe Penna (MysteryGuitarMan), Kevin Lieber (Vsauce2), Epic Lloyd, and Jack Douglass of Jacksfilms also made cameo appearances.
Kay told Tubefilter Arnold Schwarzenegger even showed up to contribute to the campaign. “There were at least 100 people in the lobby when Arnold arrived on set. I've never seen Youtube Space La being so silent,” Kay said in an email. “Everyone was taking in the Terminator power.

Lloyd Ahlquist has brought his lyrical knowhow into the spotlight thanks to Epic Rap Battles of History, but he's now looking to showcase his skills in a different format. The man known online as EpicLloyd is planning Epic Studios, a web series created alongside Canadian company iThentic.
In Epic Studios, Ahlquist will portray a down-on-his-luck rapper who looks to turn around his musical career after inheriting a studio from his dead father. A trailer released on iThentic's YouTube channel gives us a taste of the microphone-fumbling, feedback-inducing antics we can expect.
Ahlquist is best known for his work on Erb, with which he and co-creator Peter Shukoff have managed to attract 11.8 million subscribers and 1.5 billion views. With Epic Studios, though, he will take a break from the punchy, two-minute format of Erb in order to explore something a little more long-form. “With the Rap Battles, I get to act in a very specific way,...

For those unlucky few people who aren’t familiar with the YouTube video sensation Epic Rap Battles Of History, here is a brief summary: The series, created by Peter Shukoff (Nice Peter) and Lloyd Ahlquist (epicLLOYD), takes real and fictional characters, from both history and pop culture, and pits them against each other in a hilarious rap battle.
The Epic Rap Battles channel is currently the 14th most subscribed to on YouTube, with over 11 million followers, and the total number of views the videos have gained is over 1.4 billion. This success can be attributed to the videos being not only incredibly funny, but also fantastically written, having great tunes (even for those who aren’t rap’s biggest fans), and some are even educational – did you know Pablo Picasso’s full name? Or the relationship between Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison?

For its fourth season, Epic Rap Battles of History did away with its biweekly release schedule in order to bring fans a new battle each week. That format succeeded in diminishing the wait between episodes, but it also caused Erb to exhaust its new episodes twice as fast. The extremely popular web series has concluded the first half of its fourth season with a free-for-all among five famous directors. The video is billed as a battle between Steven Spielberg and Alfred Hitchcock, played by Erb co-creators Peter Shukoff and Lloyd Ahlquist, respectively. In truth, the two-time Oscar winner and the master of suspense only get one verse apiece before ceding the microphone to three more accomplished directors: Quentin Tarantino (played by rapped Wax), Stanley Kubrick (played by an actor who is only credited as "The Ghost of Stanley Kubrick"), and Michael Bay (played by Shukoff). Bay may not have the directorial clout of his competitors,...

Last week, Epic Rap Battles of History began its fourth season with a busy matchup full of guest stars. In the video, Hart plays Bonnie Parker alongside Lloyd Ahlquist's Clyde Barrow; on the other side of the matchup, Helbig's Juliet is paired with Peter Shukoff's Romeo. The battle features everything that makes Erb great, including detailed costumes, a fresh beat, and disses that are both educational and sharp. If the two-and-a-half minute battle doesn't do enough to satiate your Erb appetite, a behind-the-scenes video is available, as always, on the series' secondary channel. The Erb channel has been quiet since then, but it returned to action on September 30th to announce an upcoming fourth season. Erb will begin its new round of battles on November 10th, and the channel will quicken its pace by switching to a weekly schedule. Previously, Erb rolled out new episodes on a bi-weekly basis. That selective schedule was part of Peter Shukoff and Lloyd Ahlquist's plan to keep their new battles fresh and exciting, as explained by a New York Times profile of the duo that ran last October. The new weekly schedule could mean more battles from the Erb channel, though Shukoff and Ahlquist haven't indicated how many episodes season four will contain. The second half of the third-season of the biggest YouTube series ever concluded on Monday, July 14, 2014 with a collaboration that’s worthy of the exclamation, “Cowabunga!” Epic Rap Battles of History’s release of Artists vs. Tmnt pits the four revered Italian masters Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo against the heroes in a halfshell that bear their names thanks to an anthropomorphic rat with an affinity for art history. The historical Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo are played respectively by YouTube stars Link Neal, Rhett McLaughlin, Ian Hecox, and Anthony Padilla, while the turtle versions are Lloyd Ahlquist (aka EpicLloyd) in an epoxy and carbon fiber costume designed by Dragan Radic. Erb’s resident martial artist Xin Wuku also provided the jump kicks and any other fancy footwork you see on screen. The epic, collaborative finale is a very nice send off for a very successful third season of Erb.

The next Epic Rap Battle of History the internet will lay witness to won’t be released until May 2014, but it’s poised to be as impressively great as ever. On Thursday, February 27, a delegation of YouTube stars and digital influencers visited the White House to have a candid conversation with President Obama about how he and his office can do a better job of communicating with younger Americans by way of online video. As we noted when we broke the news, the goal of the attendees was that this brain trust can advise Obama and all future Potuses on a number of issues - like anti-bullying, education, and economic opportunity - facing many registrations to come, but the first and most pressing of those issues is the Affordable Care Act and the impending March 31, 2014 deadline for Open Enrollment. Obama asked the attendees if they could all let their fans know how to obtain information about health care enrollment with the hope that by doing so, more Americans would at least have a great knowledge of and access to their health care options.
