Jake Paul has always been something of a villain. His internet fame exploded after he and his brother, Logan Paul, amassed millions of followers posting prank videos and parodies. Eventually the now 26-year-old would become one of the highest paid YouTube stars in the world.
“I remember when they made the word influencer,” Paul says in Episode 1 of Netflix’s documentary anthology series Untold. Titled Jake Paul the Problem Child, the film documents his transition from YouTuber to professional boxer. “That was us. They were talking about us.”
Untold pulls back the curtain on some of sports’ most infamous events, specifically highlighting athletes who face mounting shame and public scrutiny in the midst of competition, and Paul’s story certainly fits the bill. Reality television is no longer what it used to be anymore. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and Road Rules are replaced by an abundance of dating shows about finding love and soulmates. As Survivor and Antiques Roadshow get pushed to the side in favor of Love Island and 90 Day Fiancé, it begs the question of how the 21st century has essentially been so technologically trapped and devoid of a social lifestyle and interpersonal relationships.

Of the numerous couples and probable life partners that such platforms have helped bring forward, most have the potential to go terribly wrong. Yet, contestants come forward season after season in the hopes of finding their better half, or at least love and companionship in the process. Two months after pleading guilty to physically attacking a California homeowner, rapper DaBaby won a last-minute delay in his trial over the man’s related battery lawsuit. The rapper, born Jonathan Kirk, hired a new lawyer last week, with the attorney saying he needed time to get up to speed.
The judge who granted the reprieve warned it would be a short-lived suspension considering the underlying lawsuit is three-and-a-half years old. She also pointed out that the parallel criminal conviction means Kirk no longer has Fifth Amendment concerns holding up his expected testimony.

Despite Kobayashi once revealing plans for retirement but wanting to battle his longtime rival again, Chestnut was revealed as the champion with 83 hot dogs eaten.
“I’ve been trying to hit 80 hot dogs for years,” Chestnut said before crediting Kobayashi for stirring the competitive nature out of him. “He drives me. We weren’t always nice to each other but we push each other to be our best.”
“I feel like I did everything I could,” Kobayashi said of the loss.

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, 58, and YouTube personality-turned-boxer Jake Paul, 27, faced off in New York City to promote their upcoming bout scheduled for November 15 in Arlington, Texas. The event, held at the Fanatics Fest in the Javits Center, marked Tyson’s return to promotional duties following a health scare in May.
Tyson addressed concerns about his fitness, confirming that the fight would proceed as planned. “I’m prepared. I’m very prepared,” he stated, acknowledging a recent “small adversity” that has since been resolved. The bout, originally set for July 20, was postponed to allow Tyson time to recover from an ulcer flare-up that required medical attention during a flight on May 26.
The boxing legend revealed he has been in training camp for two to three weeks since receiving medical clearance. Despite the 31-year age gap between the fighters, Tyson appeared confident and in good spirits.

Algerian Gold Medalist Olympic Boxer Imane Khelif Names Jk Rowling And Elon Musk In Criminal Lawsuit
If you’ve been on X in the past few days, you can’t have failed to see the barrage of criticisms that Boxer Imane Khelif faced after knocking a fellow boxer clean out a few seconds into a match.
Influencers and public figures like Jake Paul and Elon Musk took to their social media pages to share their thoughts on men competing in female sports. Perhaps it’s the wording or a lack of proper understanding, but the popular misconception soon became that Imane Khelif is a transgender woman.
Imane Khelif Files For Investigation Into The “Counts of Cyber Harassment Due to Gender”
Abuse on the gymnast naturally followed, and after collecting her gold, Imane has decided to sue for the online harassment and a number of controversial public figures were named in her lawsuit.

Paris prosecutors have opened an investigation into Olympic gold medalist boxer Imane Khelif’s legal complaint of online harassment following her appearance at the Paris games.
Khelif filed the complaint for “moral harassment” Friday with the national center for combating online hate, a part of the Paris prosecutor’s office, after winning the gold medal, beating China’s Yang Liu in the 66kg women’s category.
The torrent of criticism over gender identity and regulation in sports began when Khelif’s Italian opponent Angela Carini withdrew just seconds into the match, citing pain from Khelif’s opening punches.
In the complaint, Khelif described how her quarter-final appearance in the Olympic competition triggered a flood of hate messages targeting Khelif. She was described as “a transgender person” deliberately competing in the wrong category, and accused of “violence against women.” Her lawyer said these messages were viewed more than 100 million times around...

Donald Trump is leveraging the talents of his youngest son, Barron Trump, 18, and Barron’s friend, Bo Loudon, 17, to engage Gen Z voters in his 2024 presidential campaign. Despite their youth, these tech-savvy teens have become unofficial social media strategists, advising the 78-year-old former president on how to connect with a younger audience through influencers and online platforms.
The duo’s influence became evident when they arranged Trump’s recent 90-minute interview with Kick streamer Adin Ross. The interview garnered significant attention, with reports suggesting that it reached 500,000 live viewers and an estimated 100 million total listeners, as Trump claimed on his social media platform, Truth Social. Barron and Bo have also urged Trump to form relationships with popular content creators like Jake Paul and entrepreneur Patrick Bet-David, recognizing these figures’ power over younger audiences.
On the verge of entering his senior year of high school, Loudon is already making waves as a rising conservative influencer.

Jake Paul thinks he’s got the dub with his new men’s body care brand–and so do investors like Paris Hilton and Naomi Osaka, who just chipped in $14 million to help it grow.
Both Paul brothers have courted controversy for years now, and despite (or because of?) that attention, have transitioned into building big, loud personal brands that can turn over millions of dollars in sales. Logan Paul and his brother Jake Paul were some of the high-profile social media users who jumped on the bandwagon to make false accusations about the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif.
The Paul brothers took to Elon Musk’s X platform, formerly known as Twitter, to express their feelings about the boxing match between Italian Angela Carini and Khelif at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Carini abandoned the match after several blows to the face by Khelif, and one post on social media claimed the Algerian boxer was transgendered and assigned male at birth.
“This is the purest form of evil unfolding right before our eyes,” Logan Paul said in a now-deleted post. “A man was allowed to beat up a woman on a global stage, crushing her life’s dream while fighting for her deceased father. This delusion must end.”

Like her fellow (and former fellow) presidential candidates for the 2024 election, Kamala Harris is now on TikTok.
But she’s had a grassroots presence on the app long before making her official account. Since announcing her presidential bid, Harris has fundraised over $100 million, and that’s important, sure. What’s also important is the hundreds of thousands of coconut and brat videos wilfiring their way across every social media platform–including TikTok.
Here’s a primer on the Momala trends of the moment:
The whole “coconut” thing comes from a 2023 speech where Harris was talking about the interconnectivity of generations. “My mother […] would give us a hard time sometimes, and she would say to us, ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people. You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?'” she laughed, before following up with the more serious, “You exist in the...

In Netflix’s “Skywalkers: A Love Story,” Russian rooftopping couple Ivan “Vanya” Beerkus and Angela Nikolau mount some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers without a safety net — breaking laws, deceiving security guards and running from authorities in the process.
If it were a scripted movie, some of it would feel too unrealistic.
In climbing Malaysia’s Merdeka Tower — which, at 2,227 feet tall, is the second-tallest structure in the world after Dubai’s Burj Khalifa — Beerkus and Nikolau pull off the ultimate heist with the ultimate stakes, while ignoring orders from director Jeff Zimbalist.
“‘You’ve got to get out of there. We can’t risk an arrest. We know how dangerous getting arrested here in Malaysia is. … It’s not worth it. Don’t do it,’” Zimbalist recalls telling Beerkus and Nikolau sometime during their 30-plus hour climb. “Sometimes they would override us, and they would do their own process.

While discussing Netflix’s second quarter earnings, co-ceo Greg Peters gave a carefully balanced answer about the price of the Standard with Ads plan.
The Netflix Standard with Ads plan has been a bit slow on the come-up. Since its launch in November 2022, it has consistently lagged behind the ad-supported plan on Disney+, which launched just weeks later, as well as similar plans from other competitors in terms of the percentage of new customers who opt for the ad-supported plan. To convince customers to give the plan a chance, Netflix has kept the price low at just $6.99 per month. But as password-sharing restrictions have driven more customers to choose the ad-supported option, is the company about to raise the price? Co-CEO Greg Peters was asked that question during the company’s second-quarter earnings call on Thursday, and his response could become the new definition of a non-answer.

Netflix rang up solid subscriber gains in the second quarter of 2024 — considerably better than Wall Street expected — and posted financial results that beat forecasts.
The industry’s No. 1 premium streamer added 8.05 million net paid customers in Q2, bringing its global base to 277.65 million. The company reported revenue of $9.56 billion (up 17%) and net income of $2.15 billion (versus $1.49 billion a year ago), translating to earnings per share of $4.88.
Netflix had forecast Q2 revenue of $9.49 billion and earnings of $4.68 per share. On average, Wall Street expected revenue of $9.53 billion and Eps of $4.74, according to Lseg Data & Analytics.
Analyst consensus estimates pegged Netflix adding 4.8 million subscribers in Q2, according to FactSet StreetAccount, compared with 5.89 million in the year-ago period. The streamer had not provided guidance for quarterly subscriber adds (it stopped doing that at the start of 2023) other than to say it expected the number to be lower than the 9.3 million pickup in Q...

The sixth and final season of Cobra Kai is officially underway as its first part releases on Netflix today. The William Zabka and Ralph Macchio starrer has had a profound journey from being a pop cultural milestone of the ‘80s to being a show on YouTube Red to finally being acquired by Netflix.
While the final season sees the two Karate Kids ready for battle in the Seikai Taikai, fans were disappointed to learn that like other Netflix finales, this too would be split into different parts. Despite fans’ disappointment, there seems to be some good news as the makers announced the second part will be arriving almost two weeks before schedule.

Has it been three months already?
Good or bad, each quarter, Netflix’s earnings report shakes up both Hollywood Boulevard and Wall Street. There was the time in April 2022 when the streamer revealed it had lost subscribers for the first time in a decade. Or pick either of the past two quarters, when Netflix added a combined (and rounded) 22.5 million global paid subscribers.
But Netflix, which is expected to announce that by the end of June it had reached roughly 275 million subs worldwide, is kind of over this whole subscriber-adds thing. Also last quarter, Netflix revealed that by 2025 it will stop giving quarterly subscriber counts, just to make our jobs a little harder.
The internal (and Wall Street-facing) key metric has been revenue for a while now, but engagement time is creeping up on the list.
It’s a whole lot, and it’s a whole lot of pressure. Netflix...

DaBaby accepted a misdemeanor, no-jail plea deal Thursday in his felony battery case involving a California homeowner who claims the “Suge” rapper sucker-punched him when he tried to break up an unauthorized video shoot at his rental property in December 2020.
The rapper, who did not attend the court hearing in person, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery through his lawyer, Blair Berk. Los Angeles County Judge Ray Jurado immediately sentenced DaBaby, born Jonathan Kirk, to one year of probation and time served for the single day he spent in custody upon his 2021 arrest.

Jake Paul has his eye on an industry he describes as an “old and outdated” category: Skincare. The younger Paul brother has announced the launch of W, a men’s lifestyle brand that is initially available at Walmart locations.
At launch, the W line consists of three products: Body wash, body spray, and deodorant. Paul intends to add to the brand by introducing items like shampoo, conditioner, face wash, and hair gel. All W items are priced at $10 or less. With competitive prices and fresh design, Paul told CNBC that he hopes to disrupt a category that has “been on the shelves in the exact same way for the past 20 years.”

With the Tyson vs. Paul fight on Netflix postponed until November, Netflix took the opportunity to add a more gastronomic competition to its live slate.
Ready… set… eat! It’s been a wild few days for one of the biggest stars ever in the field of competitive eating, Joey Chestnut. Normally a mainstay at the July 4 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, Chestnut has been banned from the competition this year after he signed an endorsement deal with Impossible Foods and represented one of Nathan’s competitors. But only days later, Chestnut signed an agreement with Netflix to face off against Takeru Kobayashi in a rematch from their 2009 showdown in a live event that will be streamed on Labor Day. Read more about the event below, and check out a list of other live offerings Netflix should consider pursuing now that it’s expanding its live programming beyond sports and comedy specials.

On the heels of its upcoming live bout between over-the-hill boxing great Mike Tyson and YouTuber Jake Paul, Netflix has taken another turn toward becoming The Ocho of live sporting contests.
Netflix will stream a winner-take-all hot-dog-eating contest on Labor Day between reigning Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champ Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, the venerable hot dog chomper Chestnut unseated. The event is being called Chestnut Vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, and while they’ve settled on September 2, they’ll announced venue and time later on.
Chestnut’s the world record-holder for eating 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes, and he has won the July 4 Coney Island event eight years in a row. If he’s Muhammad Ali of hot dog gorging, his Joe Frazier would be Kobayashi, who put the “sport” on the map in 2001 when he doubled the amount consumed by the past winner, his first of six Hot Dog Eating titles.

Netflix is officially getting into the competitive eating business.
The streaming giant says that it will host a live streaming event on Labor Day, Sep. 2, featuring two legends of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest: Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi.
The live special will be called Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, with the location and specific timing still Tbd. One thing that Netflix has confirmed: The hot dogs will be all-beef.
The two competitive eaters battled each other for years in the annual Nathan’s contest, but the last time they competed head to head was in 2009, when Chestnut beat Kobayashi in a five hot dog sudden death eat-off.
Chestnut is a 16-time Nathan’s winner (including the last eight years), but was not allowed to participate this year after inking a sponsorship agreement with Impossible Foods, which recently released a plant-based dog. His absence from the event...

Jake Paul is only 27 but he’s earned many titles thus far in his career: Vine superstar, YouTube troublemaker, undisputed social media influencer, professional boxer (with a 9-1-0 record), media mogul, venture capitalist, Most Valuable Promotions co-founder and star athlete on the company roster. (He’s also well known as Logan Paul’s brother and will soon to be uncle to his big bro’s first child.)
But a couple of years back, Paul was a regular guy walking into a Cvs to buy some men’s products. He was so disappointed with the options waiting for him on store shelves that the experienced inspired him to add another title to his resume: Co-founder of W, a new men’s body care line.
Launching Wednesday in partnership with Geoffrey Woo and Woodie Hillyard with strategic advisor Nakisa Bidarian, W hits the market exclusively at Walmart stores, Walmart.com and GetW.

The highly anticipated fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul has been postponed.
Jake was set to join the legendary boxer in the ring on Saturday, July 20, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Unfortunately, the fight has to be rescheduled due to a health scare Mike suffered on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles last month.
In a statement from Most Valuable Promotions, the company putting on the fight that was set to stream on Netflix, a doctor’s visit for Mike forced the boxing match to be rescheduled.
According to the statement, Mike’s doctor only approved light workouts and conditions for the next several weeks, making it impossible for him to fight Jake.
