Bob Barker has died at the age of 99.
The game show host’s publicist, Roger Neal, stated, “It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest Mc who ever lived, Bob Barker, has left us.”
Barker’s career reached across eight decades. He was best known as the host of The Price Is Right, which regularly aired on CBS. He worked on the show for 35 years before he retired in 2007.
Barker was born in 1923, and he grew up on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota, where his mother was a teacher.
He served as a Navy fighter pilot during World War II. Afterward, he found a job hosting a radio show in Los Angeles. His success there led to his next career move as the host of the game show Truth or Consequences, but his job on The Price Is Right made him a recognized figure on television.

If you haven’t heard, disgraced former President Donald Trump will soon be allowed back on Facebook. Facebook’s parent company Meta made the announcement on Wednesday.
During his monologue on Wednesday night, Jimmy Kimmel mocked that decision, sarcastically insisting that Trump surely won’t do any of the things that got him kicked off in 2020.
“The president of Meta Global Affairs today said Trump’s accounts will come with ‘new guardrails in place to deter repeat offenses,'” Kimmel said.
“Oh, those will work,” Kimmel sneered. “I’m sure this time he’ll be very well-behaved. Ever since he commanded an Army of dimwitted goons to overthrow the government, he’s shown a lot of restraint. He’s almost a zen master now.”

Welcome back to the Supporting Actress Smackdown.
In this monthly series we pick an Oscar vintage to explore through the lens of actressing at the edges. This episode takes us back 25 years to the landmark year of 1997 when Titanic and "Matt & Ben" were all rage.
The Nominees
Aside from an encore showing for comedic genius Joan Cusack, a surprise nominee in 1988 for Working Girl, the Academy went with all first-timers for 1997's Supporting Actress roster. Not that the actresses were "new" to the scene. There were two "comeback" narratives: Kim Basinger had been a leading lady for over a decade before LA Confidential but she'd taken a three year break from the movies (amidst multiple financial and legal troubles). Meanwhile Gloria Stuart who began in the early days of sound cinema was being celebrated in a way she hadn't been since 1932. The "breakthrough" nominations, were also two-fold. One went to Minnie Driver.

Finding a favorite new podcast to follow is process of trial and error. In some ways, it can feel a bit like internet dating. There’s that initial sense of excitement and possibility you get when you scroll through a site like Audible and spot a clever title, cover art or description that strikes your fancy. So you decide to give it a shot and sample a few episodes in the hopes of finding a show that speaks to you on a personal level. On rare occasions, the connection is an instantaneous case of “love at first listen.” But more often than not, the relationship proves to be a relatively short-lived encounter that leaves you wanting just a little bit more.
The good news is that with countless podcasts currently available, and an untold number of new ones being released daily, there are a ton of amazing shows out there...

The big comic book news this week is that Batman’s sidekick Tim Drake — the current Robin, in case you aren’t up on the incredibly convoluted lore of Bat-pals — is bisexual. And on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday, show writer Louis Virtel weighed in on that big announcement, the history of queer comic characters and the sexual orientation of a classic Bat-villain.
First, if you want to know more, you can read a breakdown here. Now back to Louis Virtel, who is also well known as a comedian and a former “Jeopardy!” contestant. He talked about it during a segment called “Virtel It Like It Is,” during guest host Sarah Silverman’s monologue.
“Robin: Bisexual. If this rocked you to your core, I don’t know what to tell you. You’re like one of those housewives in the ‘50s who saw Liberace and thought, ‘He’s got a cape,...

It’s just about impossible to replace the man who hosted “Jeopardy” for nearly four decades and more than 8,000 episodes, but somebody will have to take over Alex Trebek’s legacy sooner or later. Whoever they pick among the guests hosts Sony is trying out won’t satisfy everyone, but there’s one person slated for one of those guests slots who a whole lot of fans — and even some past contestants! — are already rejecting: Mehmet Oz, aka Dr. Oz, whose guest spot was revealed Tuesday evening.
There’s going to be some level of negative response to every one of the guest hosts — how could there not be, since none of them are Trebek? Plus, you know, there’s no option that everyone likes. So some amount of grumbling from “Jeopardy” fans is to be expected.
But the backlash to Dr. Oz on social media is a bit more acute than just some grumbling.

On Friday, Jan. 8, legendary Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek — who died Nov. 8 after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer — will make his final appearance on the iconic game show. I am definitely not ready to say goodbye.
While I appreciate the fact that Sony Pictures Television prolonged the inevitable by scheduling two weeks of curated reruns over the holidays (Trebek’s last airdate was originally slated for Dec. 25), I now find myself wishing and hoping for another continuance.

When “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” first hit primetime in 1999, host Regis Philbin laid out its base appeal in no uncertain terms. The show, Philbin told his audience, featured “people just like you, who called our phone number dreaming of instant riches.” In just 15 questions, someone could “seize this day [and] have the knowledge and the courage to change the course of their lives in one short evening” to go from someone who could be working in the next cubicle over from you to someone who could claim that coveted title of millionaire. The show was, for better and for worse, the American Dream incarnate. Watching regular people in wrinkled shirts sweat under the studio lights, relying on nothing but their smarts and gut instincts to guide them to a potential fortune, it was tantalizingly easy to imagine doing the same.

Beloved television sitcom icon Valerie Harper died this Friday at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer. American TV audiences in the 1970s grew up with Harper in their living rooms on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” in which she played the self-deprecating Rhoda Morgenstern. Rhoda served as the neurotic, comic foil to the otherwise buttoned-up Mary Tyler Moore. Harper won three Primetime Emmy Awards for her performance, and went on to reprise the cherished role in the spinoff series “Rhoda,” for which she also earned an Emmy, in 1975.

Sweet baby Jesus and the orphans, the Cats movie trailer is a thing of horror.
2019 has been quite the year for big-screen CG gambles. First, the internet had to process Will Smith's as the Genie in Disney's live-action Aladdin remake, then Sonic suddenly had human teeth. On top of all that, when the admittedly visually impressive The Lion King was subsequently released, fans of the original animated classic struggled to comprehend why. An existential crisis of CG tire fire proportions has been burning relentlessly online over the last six months, and last night, the backdraft hit.

The “Cats” trailer dropped Thursday afternoon, and Twitter pounced. At the time of this writing, the movie was the top trending topic worldwide on Twitter with over 300,000 tweets. While that’s only a fraction of the record 50 million tweets that “Avengers: Endgame” accrued, it’s still an impressive initial response for a film based on a 38-year-old musical.
If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, the actors in Tom Hooper’s “Cats” all retain their human bodies and faces, but are covered in CGI fur and possess pointy ears and tails. Some viewers found the anthropomorphism unsettling, while others — like star Taylor Swift — were thrilled. Reacting to her transformation into a feline, the singer tweeted, “I am a cat now and somehow that was everything.”

Universal Pictures left the industry in a state of wonder at CinemaCon when it announced “digital fur technology” was being used to turn the actors in Tom Hooper’s “Cats” musical adaptation into felines. What exactly would Idris Elba, Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, and Taylor Swift look like with digital fur added to their faces and bodies? That answer finally arrived with the debut of the “Cats” official trailer, and the reactions from film critics and journalists is overwhelming, to say the least.
“Cats” is based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s long-running West End and Broadway musical of the same name. The story is set during a single night and follows a group of homeless cats called the Jellicles as they decide which cat will ascend to a place called the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. The musical was based on a collection of short stories written by T.S. Eliot.

In case anyone has had any doubts (Lol) about Beyoncé's upcoming role in Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King, Billy Eichner is here to confirm that Queen B is doing an amazing job as Nala. So amazing, in fact, that just hearing her voice made him tear up.
The comedian, who stars opposite Seth Rogen in the film as Timon, recently appeared on an episode of the Keep It podcast where he spoke briefly about how the movie's development has come along so far. Addressing hosts Ira Madison III and Louis Virtel's concerns that Beyoncé isn't actually in it, he said, "She's definitely in the movie because I've seen a rough cut."

Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga surprised the audience by approaching the stage from their seats in the crowd, without an introduction. Gaga took her place at a grand piano and Cooper perched on a stool.
Twitter went wild. Here’s a collection of a few of our favorite reactions to the passionate performance between “A Star is Born” co-stars.

ABC is moving its Oscars red-carpet preshow from Facebook to Twitter for 2019, marking the first time “Oscars All Access: Red Carpet Live” will be streamed live exclusively on Twitter.
Twitter’s live stream will be available at @TheAcademy account on Oscars Sunday, Feb. 24, starting at 6:30pm Et/3:30 p.m. Pt.
For Twitter — which has been pushing to bring more live video to the platform — the deal with ABC and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is a bit of a coup. Kevin Hart is currently in the news for his sit-down with Ellen DeGeneres in which she urged him to reconsider hosting the Oscars. Following their conversation, in which DeGeneres claimed she personally called the Academy and heard they want Hart back as host, the comedian said he would take some time to “evaluate” the situation and move forward accordingly.
Before Hart was interviewed by DeGeneres, however, he joined Variety’s Kristopher Tapley on the “Playback” podcast and was more adamant about not returning as hot.
“Would I ever do it? No, it’s done. It’s done,” Hart said. “The moment came and it was a blessing and I was excited at the opportunity and I still am. In my mind I got the job, it was a dream job, and things came up that simply prohibited it from happening. But I don’t believe in going backwards. … When I go on that stage,...

Colin Jost is best known as the co-anchor of “Weekend Update” on “Saturday Night Live,” but he’s taking on the role of Emmys host next month alongside his “SNL” collaborator Michael Che. The two comedians sat down with the Los Angeles Times ahead of their Emmys gig, and one unfortunate quote from Jost has gone viral online. Jost was asked whether or not he is a fan of award shows, to which he explained why they often frustrate him.
“I think most of the time they’re way too self-serious and focused on things that 99% of the country doesn’t care about,” Jost said. “At the end of the day, it’s adults getting trophies. Why should that be taken seriously Remember when movies like ‘Gladiator’ won Best Picture? Why can’t good, fun things win and not just good artsy things? They’re both good and the fun...

Someone actually approves of the new “Popular Film” category at next year’s Oscars: “Saturday Night Live’s” Colin Jost, one of the upcoming Emmy Awards hosts.
Jost, who will host next month’s Emmy awards with his “Weekend Update” co-anchor Michael Che, received some push-back Tuesday after telling The Los Angeles Times about his desire to see “good, fun” things win awards rather than only “good, artsy” things.
“Remember when movies like ‘Gladiator’ won best picture? Why can’t good, fun things win and not just good artsy things? They’re both good and the fun ones are sometimes a lot harder to make,” Jost said in an interview with the paper about hosting the Emmys.

Presenting the Supporting Actresses of '85. It was all scandal all the time at this colorful party. There were three much gossiped about women (a mafia princess, a drunk promiscuous entertainer, and a delusional pregnant nun) and two stubborn women who were just Not having either the gossip or the abusive and cheating men around them. It was the about appreciating the color purple (Oprah & Margaret), seeing red (Amy & Meg), and embracing jet black comedy (Anjelica).

Taylor Swift just pulled an interesting stunt with her music, and Twitter is having a field day. On Thursday, the singer's team announced the exciting news that she would be returning her entire music back catalog to streaming services, including Spotify, at midnight on June 9 as a personal "thank you" to her fans for helping her 2014 album 1989 sell over 10 million copies. While the whole thing seemed innocent on the surface, people couldn't help but notice the timing of her move was pretty suspect, considering it was the exact same time Katy Perry's Witness was set to drop. Petty? Maybe. But people are eating (or should we say sipping?) it up. See some of the best reactions to Taylor and Katy's ever-evolving feud below. Most strutted straight to the Internet. Everyone knows that Meryl Streep is Oscar's all time acting nomination queen. This year the queen received her 20th nomination, this time for playing the worst opera singer Florence Foster Jenkins. But Streep's astonishing numbers get a little less intimidating if you break them up into supporting and lead categories. So let's do that to place Streep in a slightly different context in the history of Oscar'ed actresses.

There is a moment that really stuck with me from the interview HitFix's Louis Virtel conducted with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart for "Get Hard" which posted yesterday. Virtel asks, "You are both very smart and funny people. During the scene in the movie where you kind of do a mockingly effeminate voice [to Hart] and you gag at a dick as though it's the worst thing that can happen to a straight guy [to Ferrell], in a gay situation, did you think: this is mildly mean spirited or at the very least, a little bit dated?" Before Hart responds, the camera holds on Ferrell's face for a just a moment. Ferrell doesn't look annoyed. He doesn't look angry. He isn't trying to force a smile. He just looks sort of sad. "Get Hard," which Drew McWeeny reviewed out of SXSW, is the directorial debut of longtime screenwriter Etan Cohen ("Tropic Thunder") and has a pretty simple set up.
