Sixteen years passed from the time Eli Roth made a slasher faux trailer called Thanksgiving for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse to the day when a feature version of Thanksgiving (read our review Here) finally made its way into theatres – and the fact that we’re being rewarded for our patience with not just that movie, but also a sequel that’s expected to reach theatres sometime in 2025 is truly something to be thankful about. Now Thanksgiving cast members Nell Verlaque and Rick Hoffman have confirmed to Games Radar that they are going to be coming back for Thanksgiving 2!
When asked if she’ll be in the sequel Roth is crafting with Thanksgiving co-writer Jeff Rendell, Verlaque said, “To my knowledge, yes. I think that it’ll be a continuation of where we last saw (her character). So we’ll see. But right now, I think so.

A lot of genre fans had been waiting sixteen years to see director Eli Roth’s holiday slasher Thanksgiving (read our review Here), ever since he contributed a faux trailer for the concept to the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse back in 2007. The movie hasn’t exactly done massive numbers since reaching theatres a week and a half ago; so far it has racked up just over $30 million at the global box office. But that’s enough to get Sony’s TriStar Pictures to greenlight a sequel! Roth took to social media to announce that Thanksgiving 2 is a go, and he’ll be returning to the helm for this follow-up! Roth’s announcement can be seen at the bottom of this article.

The director and screenwriter of "Thanksgiving" — Eli Roth and Jeff Rendell, respectively — have been very vocal about the fact that Thanksgiving seems to be a holiday with vast untapped potential as fodder for horror films, slasher movies in particular. After all, Halloween and Christmas are well-trodden as body count fare and even lesser holidays like Independence Day have their memorable slashers. Poor Turkey Day has only one; though "Blood Rage" is a pretty fantastic little indie that everyone should make a part of their yearly traditions, it uses Thanksgiving as a side dish rather than the main course.
So, Roth and Rendell were determined to fill this void themselves, and 2007's "Grindhouse" project by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino gave them just the opportunity they needed. Adding a few days onto the "Hostel Part II" shoot, Roth shot a faux trailer for "Thanksgiving" in the Grindhouse manner, making it look...

When the Weinstein Company gambled on Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s goal of reviving a disgraced type of movie for Grindhouse in 2007, they turned up snake eyes. Audiences weren’t interested in the vintage aesthetics of the double feature, which included Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof, as well as a series of fake movie trailers directed by Edgar Wright, Rob Zombie, Eli Roth, and Jason Eisener.
Roth’s contribution to Grindhouse was a promo for Thanksgiving, a cheeky and unremittingly violent nod to holiday-themed slashers like Halloween, Black Christmas, Silent Night, Deadly Night, My Bloody Valentine, and more. Now, over 15 years later, the feature arrives to offer more of the same, only it isn’t styled as a throwback to the grindhouse era.

Eli Roth‘s long-awaited slasher movie Thanksgiving is set to reach theatres on November 17th (that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year), and with just over two weeks to go until we reach that date, the movie has just earned its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. And it’s exactly the rating we’ve been hoping to see for this one. Thanksgiving has officially earned an R rating for strong bloody horror violence and gore, pervasive language and some sexual material. It is a bit surprising not to see nudity specified on that list, but the rest of the reasons were expected.

Every major holiday could stand to have a slasher movie themed around it, especially one with a sunny disposition masquerading the grim truth behind it like Thanksgiving. Such was Eli Roth's thinking when he made his fake "Thanksgiving" movie trailer for Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's "Grindhouse" experiment back in 2007. Roth's original short is a collection of scenes of people getting brutally decapitated over the Thanksgiving holiday frame by a serial killer dressed as a Pilgrim. It's grotesque, juvenile, and tasteless. In other words, it's everything you either love or hate about Eli Roth's horror work in general.
16 years later, Roth has finally gone and turned "Thanksgiving" into a full-fledged film, just like the fake "Grindhouse" trailers turned actual films "Machete" and "Hobo with a Shotgun" before it. Roth's slasher also marks his return to the realm of hard R-rated genre fare after his brief detour into...

After 15 years of rumors, Eli Roth finally has helmed the feature “Thanksgiving.”
Back in 2007, Roth created a mock trailer for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s “Grindhouse” with an unhinged holiday slasher set in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Now, Patrick Dempsey and Addison Rae lead the real-life horror movie.
Per the official synopsis, the table is set, the festivities have begun, but an uninvited guest has arrived… and this year, there will be no leftovers.
The film follows a serial killer who slices and dices the residents of Plymouth one by one over the Thanksgiving holiday. Gina Gershon, Milo Manheim, Rick Hoffman, Tim Dillon, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Gabriel Davenport, Tomaso Sanelli, Karen Cliche, and Jenna Warren also star. “Thanksgiving” was written by Jeff Rendell. Spyglass produces the film, along with Roth and Roger Birnbaum.

An event many horror fans have been waiting sixteen years for is almost upon us. Eli Roth has finally made a feature version of his faux slasher trailer Thanksgiving, which was put together for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse, and TriStar Pictures and Spyglass Media Group are planning to give Thanksgiving a theatrical release on November 17, 2023 – the Friday before this Thanksgiving. With that date just two months away, Fandango has unveiled a poster for the film… and with that poster comes the promise that a teaser trailer is going to arrive online tomorrow! I have watched the Thanksgiving faux trailer many times, and I can’t wait to see what the teaser trailer for the feature version of the concept is going to be like.
The poster can be found at the bottom of this article.

Sixteen years after director Eli Roth contributed the faux slasher trailer Thanksgiving to the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse, a feature expansion of the concept is currently in production. Roth celebrated his birthday on set earlier this week, and has taken to social media to share some pictures that were taken on the big day – including one that shows him surrounded by Thanksgiving cast members! Scroll through these images, past the shots of goat yoga and turkey cake, to see the cast:

He even wrote the screenplay with Jeff Rendell (who played the homicidal pilgrim in the trailer) a dozen years ago. This Thanksgiving, it's not just turkeys that'll be getting carved up. Horror director Eli Roth is set to follow in the footsteps of "Machete Kills" filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and "Hobo With A Shotgun" director Jason Eisener, turning the fake movie trailer he made for Rodriguez's 2007 film "Grindhouse" into a real, feature-length movie. "Thanksgiving" is now set to strut its way to theaters in time for the colonialist feast day.
While Roth has yet to drop a trailer or first footage from the movie, fans of the filmmaker probably have a good idea of what to expect from the feature-length expansion of a delightfully nasty short that left audiences laughing (and flinching) back when Rodriguez's "Grindhouse" made its debut. It's too soon to tell how much "Thanksgiving" will borrow from its source material, but as the first fiction feature co-written, directed, and produced by the "Hostel" filmmaker since 2015's Keanu Reeves-led erotic thriller,...

Because that’s what life is like now—a purgatory of hardship, tragedy, and sorrow. Now Dad is unemployed (Aaron Poole), and Mom (Miranda Calderon) frustrated at their lack of options. Veronica struggles with the loss of her innocence at the hands of an abusive guardian. And neither can fully share their pain.
So they attempt to deal with it through distraction. Nicole continues writing in her journal as though she...
