Exclusive: Blue Fox Entertainment announced it has acquired worldwide rights and will be launching sales on the sci-fi thriller Site at the upcoming American Film Market in November. The gripping and thought-provoking film is written and directed by the award-winning Jason Eric Perlman, who was recently named #4 in LA Weekly’s “Top 10 Entertainment Professionals to Watch in 2023.” His debut feature Threshold was released by Sony Pictures after a decorated festival run in 2017.
Blue Fox Entertainment is handling worldwide sales and will preview first look footage of the film for buyers at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM). Blue Fox Entertainment’s US distribution division is planning a theatrical release for the film.
The film stars Jake McLaughlin, Arielle Kebbel, Theo Rossi, and Miki Ishikawa, and Yoson An.
In Site, Neil (Jake McLaughlin) experiences an inexplicable time distortion in an abandoned military test site while inspecting it with his business partner Garrison (Theo Rossi). Soon, Neil is having repeated traumatic flashes back to a WWII prison camp in China called Unit 731, which somehow holds the thread to his own unraveling present. Neil begins to realize that the past lives and events in this place of unspeakable brutality seem to mirror his own trauma with his son Wiley and his wife Elena (Arielle Kebbel). Desperate for answers, Neil enlists Naomi (Miki Ishikawa) to help him find the facility’s last surviving scientist. Ultimately, Neil awakens to a new redemptive responsibility, both within his own family and the greater society around him.
Site is produced by publicist and entrepreneur Benjamin Cooke, Sundance alum, Kelly Hayes, international businesswoman, Yvonne Supangkat, and Jason Eric Perlman.
Blue Fox Entertainment’s James Huntsman said, “Audiences are hungry for high quality science fiction thrillers, which have been scarce in the market recently. With Site, Jason and his talented cast and crew have created an exciting journey that has something relevant to say beneath the surface of the film.”
Director Jason Eric Perlman said, “We are thrilled to have this film beginning its journey in the viewing world. In this time of such unthinkable conflicts I believe it’s vital that creativity explores the interconnectedness of mankind, as well as the atrocities we are capable of inflicting upon one another. Site is intent upon doing both, but with the philosophical imperative that if we ignore history, or the darkness within each of us, we are doomed to repeat the same traumas over and over.
It has been an honor to work with our incredibly talented cast in bringing this story to life, and their commitment to the material elevates it to a remarkable plane. Our visionary crew is also to be credited with what I believe we’ve achieved. The cinematography of Eunah Lee and the brilliant production design of Gabor Norman were integral in the telling of this story to full potential. We are excited to team now with Blue Fox in launching this film into the world.”...

Plane is an action thriller film directed by Jean-François Richet and starring Gerard Butler, Mike Colter, Yoson An and Tony Goldwyn.
Gerard Butler, the man that lives his film life (lately above all) this time around saves some passengers from the dangers in the jungle and their hostile inhabitants
About the Movie
This man who seems to be wearing blockbuster on his t-shirt, knows what he is doing and, although he tried his luck (with Katherine Heigl in The Ugly Truth) in romance, seems to fare better in living in danger and saving lives with his rough yet effective style.
Plane (2023)
Butler is not the kind of guy to be delivering kicks, his style is more about adapting to a situation and thanks to his kindness and his luck, saving the world like that because he can.
Plane is an excercise in making an entertaining action movie for all audiences...

Pilot Brodie Torrance saves passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island — only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When dangerous rebels take most of the passengers hostage, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare, an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI.
With the release of M3gan, Sick, The Old Way, and now Plane, it seems that we may be finally leaving behind the “January movie,” if you know what I mean. It’s notorious that Hollywood usually tends to dump the worst movies possible in the month of January to essentially bury them. Not many people are going to remember the films that came out at the beginning of...

This piece contains massive spoilers for "Plane."
With a title as unique and original as "Plane," did you really expect something entirely cookie-cutter out of this new film? While definitely populated with standard action tropes, there were a few off-the-wall moments that were worth the price of admission. Perhaps the craziest and most unexpected of these moments came near the film's conclusion, where Pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) decides to end the reign of terror caused by militia commander Dele (Yoson An) once and for all.
How exactly does he do this? Well, it's simple: Brodie commandeers a plane right into Dele on a runway. Literally. He pulverizes this man with a whole-ass airplane. I mean, were you expecting anything less?
As it turns out, that show-stopping conclusion came straight from Butler, and he's pretty damn proud of it. He made the revelation in an interview with Uproxx, with the...

You can imagine the committee meetings devoted to finding just the right title for primo action star Gerard Butler’s latest, in which he plays an airline pilot encountering lightning strikes that force him to crash-land on a rebel-infested remote island in the Philippines. As it criss-crosses the airline disaster genre and frightening jungle thriller, why not just tell the public what it really is. While it could be called Terror Island, or maybe Pirates Jungle, or Flight to the Death, the producers came up with the inspired plain Plane. That works well enough for anyone expecting Airport meets The High and the Mighty, but really it is just the first half that fits snugly into that category, nail-biting as it is.

Ever since the ’80s, action films have been overwhelmingly basic in concept, execution, and title. So when you hear that the new Gerard Butler film is called “Plane,” you’d be forgiven for thinking that you can run the entire movie through your head in the blink of an eye. Gerard Butler on a plane (check). He’s probably the pilot (check). There’s probably a criminal onboard (check). The film will be a low-flying, B-grade “Air Force One,” with Butler’s windpipe-smashing grizzled lug saving the day in the same way that Harrison Ford’s heroically resourceful chief executive did.
Actually, no.
Butler, in his broken-down-dad-with-a-chip-of-gold-on-his-shoulder mode, does indeed play a commercial airline pilot, Captain Brodie Torrance, who in the early scenes boards a passenger jet that he’s piloting on New Year’s Eve from Singapore (where he’s based) to Tokyo. There is indeed a criminal onboard...

Everyone has bad work days. Sometimes there’s just too much to do and not enough time to do it all; sometimes your coworkers can drive you up a wall; sometimes you have to land a commercial airliner somewhere in the Philippines because a lightning strike has rendered your plane flightless.
That last example is the plight of Trailblazer Airlines pilot Brodie Torrance, Gerard Butler’s character in the new action-thriller “Plane,” directed by Jean-François Richet (“The Emperor of Paris”). When his flight 199 goes down over the Sulu Sea, the grizzled captain teams up with an unlikely ally — the extradited murderer sitting at the back of his plane — to help his passengers and crew navigate a treacherous island. What follows is a ho-hum fight for survival peppered with carnage and, occasionally, pathos.

It’s a wonder that Gerard Butler is able to purchase any insurance. After all, bad things seem to happen to him, or at least his screen persona, all the time. Whether he’s playing a Secret Service agent or an Everyman, Butler can’t seem to avoid getting in more tight spots than anyone since Bruce Willis’ John McClane. In his newest film, Plane, Butler plays an airline pilot, so you can rest assured that his flight is not going to go smoothly.
Fortunately for moviegoers, the veteran Scottish actor is an engaging, charismatic presence, and Plane is the sort of breathlessly paced suspenser that barely leaves a moment for audiences to stop suspending their disbelief.
The film dispenses with backstory, save for a brief introductory phone conversation between pilot Brodie Torrance (Butler) and his teenage daughter (Haleigh Hekking) as he’s rushing through airport security. It’s New Year’s Eve,...

January is the time for campy horror movies (see: “M3GAN”), extremely late-coming Oscar contenders (International Feature hopefuls “Saint Omer” and “Close”), and of course, ridiculous action thrillers, preferably starring Gerard Butler.
And Lionsgate is more than happy to provide us with the latter via “Plane,” Butler’s newest action movie. The studio released the final trailer for the film Wednesday, a week ahead of its theatrical release.
As its title suggests, the story of “Plane” begins on an airplane, piloted by Brodie Torrance (Butler), which is carrying Louis Gaspare (“Evil” star Mike Colter), a man being extradited on charges of homicide. After the plane gets heavily damaged by a freak storm, Brodie is forced to crash-land in Jolo, an island in the Philippines overrun by anti-government militias. When one of the militias, led by the short-tempered Dele (Yoson An), takes the majority of the crew and passengers hostage, Brodie is...

The second trailer for Plane tosses in all the standard action film moments, with Gerard Butler and Mike Colter as the good guys and a group of rebels as the villains. And although it’s named Plane, most of the action appears to take place on the ground rather than in the air. (Maybe the sequel will be called Boat and take place on land?)
Joining Gerard Butler and Mike Colter in the R-rated action thriller are Yoson An, Daniella Pineda, Paul Ben-Victor, Remi Adeleke, Joey Slotnick, Evan Dane Taylor, Claro de los Reyes, and Tony Goldwyn.
Jean-François Richet directed from a screenplay by Charles Cumming and J.P. Davis (story by Cumming). Butler, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and Alan Siegel produce.
Lionsgate Films is releasing Plane in theaters on January 13, 2023.

Look, it's not every day that I get to flex my background as an aviation major and actually make it relevant with my obsessive love for film. So, for better or worse, I'm about to take full advantage of the opportunity here and go completely off the deep end with one of the more amusing movies on the upcoming calendar.
I've been frantically gathering as much evidence as possible to support the hypothesis that we're in the early stages of an aerial renaissance of sorts. "Top Gun: Maverick" emphatically proved that audiences still feel the need for speed, flocking to theaters to experience those visceral thrills for themselves. In a quirk of timing, the World War II-set movie about flying aces, "Devotion," also came out last year -- even sharing similar DNA with the "Top Gun" sequel, in fact, thanks to the casting of Glen Powell in both movies. Director Corrie Chen has hit a stride in her career where she is able to make projects she really believes in.
Tonight is the premiere of one such example in Sbs/Goalpost Television’s New Gold Mountain, with Chen having directed all four episodes.

The stellar ensemble cast includes Yoson An, Alyssa Sutherland, Christopher James Baker, Dan Spielman, Mabel Li, Leonie Whyman, Sam Wang, Rhys Muldoon, Alison Bell, Chris Masters Mah and Travis Cotton.
Sbs director of content Marshall Heald has called New Gold Mountain the broadcaster’s “most ambitious drama yet”, with producer Kylie du Fresne noting it draws inspiration from Deadwood. Will Disney’s live-action remake of “Mulan” follow in the footsteps of the 1998 animated classic by equaling or exceeding its awards haul? It is entirely possible that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and motion picture academy might respond to Harry Gregson-Williams‘ rousing score. He’s already a 2006 Globe nominee for “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe,” so he’s at least on the awards radar. Similarly, the original song from the film, “Loyal Brave True,” performed by pop star Christina Aguilera and penned by Gregson-Williams, Jamie Hartman, Rosi Golan and Billy Crabtree, might also score a nomination from both groups.
The $200 million China-set action drama was directed by Niki Caro (“Whale Rider”) and stars actress Liu Yifei in the title role and co-stars Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Bori Khan, Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, with Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor.

This piece contains spoilers for Disney’s Mulan. Read our spoiler-free review here.
More than any of the previous six Disney live-action remakes, Mulan requires the greatest narrative leap from fans of the animated original: The remake has done away with the iconic musical numbers, wisecracking dragon Mushu, and fan favorite Captain Li Shang, who is considered by many to be a bisexual icon for his clear attraction to both Ping and Mulan. Instead, perhaps in order to separate out the love interest from the potentially problematic power dynamic, Niki Caro’s 2020 adaptation, which now available to watch for no additional fee for Disney+ subscribers, splits Shang into two characters: father figure Commander Tung (Donnie Yen) and fellow recruit Chen Honghui (Yoson An).
Not surprisingly, breaking out the two major aspects of Shang’s character into separate personas dilutes Hua Mulan’s (Yifei Liu) relationship with each of them. But...
