Updated: Nikki Haley told supporters Saturday that she will continue in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, signaling that she plans to continue at least through Super Tuesday on March 5.
“Today in South Carolina, we’re getting around 40% of the vote. That’s about what we got in New Hampshire, too. I am accountant. I know 40% is not 50%. But I also know 40% is not some tiny group.”
She also said that she did not believe that Trump can beat Joe Biden.
“Nearly every day Trump drives people away, including with his comments just yesterday,” she said.
The latest vote total in the South Carolina primary shows Trump with 61% to Haley’s 39%.
Previously: Just minutes after networks projected him the winner of the South Carolina primary, Donald Trump took the stage at his celebration in Columbia, Sc.

Update: Donald Trump mocked Nikki Haley’s remarks to supporters after she lost the New Hampshire primary, telling supporters that “she was doing a speech like she won.”
“She didn’t win, she lost,” Trump said.
“Who the hell was the imposter that went up on the stage before and claimed victory. She did very poorly. She had to win. The governor said, she is going to win. She is going to win. And she failed badly.”
He seemed especially irritated during the speech, telling the crowd, “I don’t get too angry. I get even.”
He explained why he decided to focus on Haley in his speech, given that he’s all but assured to get the nomination.
“I find in life you can’t let people get away with bullshit. You just can’t do that. And when I watched her, in her fancy dress that probably wasn’t so fancy,...

Have you heard it’s cold in Des Moines? The subzero temperatures are making Monday’s caucuses in Iowa the coldest on record, a running theme of coverage throughout the day and into this evening. It’s not trivial, as the frigid weather may very well impact turnout.
As Iowa’s first votes of the 2024 presidential race come in, expect a lot of analysis, punditry and prediction, even if the results represent just a sliver of the primary electorate. The Hawkeye state’s primacy as the first-in-the-nation often obscures the peculiarities of the caucus system, unless there is some kind of glitch, which is what happened four years ago with the Democrats.
That said, networks see the caucuses as the kickoff of what is hoped a spike in viewer interest in the presidential contest, as was seen in 2020 and 2016. All of the broadcast networks are planning for ongoing coverage of...

There was a moment in the past year when dozens of media and political reporters found themselves in the same room, sitting patiently for hours, essentially doing nothing but speculating about what was about to happen.
That’s generally a fraught scenario, but in this case, it was a bit fortuitous in that Delaware courtroom, waiting for proceedings to resume. At 4 p.m. that day in April, the judge announced that Fox had reached a settlement with Dominion Voting Systems just as a landmark defamation trial was about to begin. The revelations from the case — and the network’s $787.5 million payout — made for what was one of the biggest media business stories of the year.

One of the most consequential events in the recent history of the U.S. is set to be dissected on Thursday night during TV’s primetime schedule. Journalists slated to cover it will have to hope America sees the broadcast as something other than entertainment.
On Thursday night, most major broadcast networks and cable-news outlets are slated to shake up their evening programming grid to show what is expected to be a shocking report from the U.S. House Select Committee, which has spent months investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, and what may be coordinated efforts behind it. Politicians are known to get into the weeds of their findings to try to make political points by attacking the other side, and to focus overmuch on the wonky inner workings of U.S. bureaucracy than on bigger themes. Thursday’s presentation, which may point to U.S.

President Joe Biden was heckled during his State of the Union speech by Republican Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia tonight.
NBC’s Garrett Haake told viewers that Boebert “and Marjorie Taylor Greene…kept up something of a running commentary throughout much of the speech, interjecting.”
Boebert, who wore a wrap with the words “drill baby drill” on the back, appeared to be the night’s interjector-in-chief.
Biden, as he did throughout the speech, sought to find common cause with Republicans as he spoke of caring for U.S. servicemen and women who may have been exposed to toxic substances while Afghanistan and Iraq.
“When they came home, many of the world’s fittest and best-trained warriors were never the same,” he said. “Headaches. Numbness. Dizziness.”
He added, “A cancer that would put them in a flag-draped coffin, I know.”

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-wy), who refused to stay silent about Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was stolen, was ousted from House Republican Leadership on Wednesday, as expected, with a big contrast in how the moment was covered by cable news networks.
In the 9 am Et hour, CNN focused almost entirely on the pending vote, MSNBC devoted slightly less coverage, while Fox News largely stuck to other stories, including the unfolding gas pipeline shutdown and gas shortages in the southeast. Fox did go live for Cheney’s remarks after the closed-door vote, but after a few words, anchors Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino then went on to other stories.
“I will do everything I can to make sure the former president never gets near the Oval Office,” Cheney told reporters afterward.
Cheney was ousted after GOP members expressed unhappiness with her criticisms of Trump and his role in the Jan.

The TV network coverage at the corner H and 16th streets near Lafayette Square Park in Washington, D.C. this week went from late-night shots of buildings on fire to protesters fleeing police on horseback, then a robust militaristic buildup, and then hundreds of peaceful demonstrators singing, in unison, Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me.”
By Friday, the intersection had taken on the air of a street fair, the words Black Lives Matter were painted down 16th to end at the corner.
The protests and unrest following the death of George Floyd have produced impactful moments across the country, but a focal point has been this spot, within view of the White House, and network reporters who have been there this a week describe it as disconcerting, surreal and hopeful. Their coverage continues on Saturday, when the largest crowds yet are expected to show up for demonstrations.

The U.S. Park Police claimed Tuesday that its officers acted to clear protesters from Lafayette Square near the White House because some demonstrators were throwing projectiles at them, but journalists who were on the scene say that they did not see such conduct.
The Park Police statement came in response to widespread criticism that they used flash grenades, rubber bullets and tear gas to clear peaceful demonstrators. Once the area was secured, President Donald Trump walked from the White House for about a block across Lafayette Park to St. John’s Church, where he held a Bible in a photo op.

The weekend’s images of protests of the death of George Floyd also saw widespread reports of members of the media being attacked, harassed, injured and arrested as they covered everything from peaceful marches to looting and unrest.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, run by the Freedom of the Press Foundation, said that they “are in the process of documenting at least 100 different incidents of aggressions against the media over the weekend” — from May 29 to May 31. The numbers may go higher as incidents are reported from Sunday evening. Of the more than 60 assaults on journalists they have tracked, 10 include damage to news equipment.
Still to be determined is how many of the incidents involved police action against journalists covering the protests, as reporters shared stories of being injured by members of law enforcement.

Hurricane Florence has yet to swirl over North Carolina, but the nation’s TV-news operations are already setting up to meet her.
“It’s a large area, and we really want to be able to cover a big part of it,” says Wendy Fisher, vice president of newsgathering for ABC News, which has already dispatched multiple crews of anchors, reporters, camera operations and technicians to various points in the southeastern U.S. “Most hurricanes “hit the beach and then they peter out” she adds. “This one, there are warnings that it will linger. We kind of have to cover several different stories,” ranging from the storm itself to the consequences of its aftermath.
All the big news networks have plans to cover Hurricane Florence, which meteorologists predict will slam into the U.S. east coast later this week. It is now a category 4 hurricane and has sustained winds of 130 miles per hour.

Washington — Michelle Wolf’s monologue at the White House Correspondents Association dinner dominated the headlines coming out of the evening — even if it was a mere sliver of the four-hour event and only a moment in what is traditionally D.C.’s most social weekend.

A federal lawsuit has been filed against Howard University claiming the school failed to appropriately handle reports of sexual assault that occurred on campus between 2014 and 2016.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of five Jane Does, alleges the school’s inaction resulted in at least one assailant raping again. The 71-page document, obtained by People, claims that the accused repeat rapist worked as a resident assistant and had a key to his alleged victim’s dorm room.
Two of the plaintiffs also claim that they were raped by the same male student, who allegedly transferred to Howard after being accused of sexual misconduct at another school.
