When I was a kid growing up in the Berkeley flatlands, I used to play with a couple of neighbor kids, Tony and his little brother, Mikey. One day in 1979, two men got out of a car, approached Tony and Mikey’s house, and beat another man with a club. The neighborhood buzz was that the assailants were from a group called Synanon, and they were unhappy that their victim had left the group.

Dodger Stadium’s vaccination site was briefly interrupted at around 2 p.m. on Saturday after a group of protesters gathered at the entrance.
Some individuals were carrying signs that read “End the lockdown,” “Covid scam” and “99.9 % survival rate.”
Witness Mikel Jollett, who was accompanying his mother to receive her Covid-19 vaccine, wrote on Twitter, “The anti–vax protestors have approached the entrance to the site. The LAPD have now closed the gate. We have been sitting here for about half an hour. Nobody is moving.”

A conversation between the rock group Sparks and the filmmaker who has made a movie about them, Edgar Wright, is be one of the standout draws of this year’s Sundance ASCAP Music Cafe, which, along with the host festival itself, has moved off Park City’s Main Street and online for 2021.
Wright’s documentary “The Sparks Brothers,” about the five-decade musical career of Ron and Russell Mael, is one of the more eagerly anticipated titles of this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Other conversations scheduled for ASCAP’s programming include a chat between “Passing” director Rebecca Hall and composer Devonté Hynes (aka Blood Orange), and another uniting composers Siddhartha Khosla (“This Is Us”) and Amanda Jones.
Musical performances will no longer serve as a draw to festival attendees who want a break from the cold, but may be just as worthy an excuse for a lull from working at home.

Esquire Magazine was called out on Twitter on Tuesday after revealing its March cover story, which featured a profile of a “white, middle class male” growing up “in the era of social media, school shootings, toxic masculinity, #MeToo, and a divided country.”
“As adults, it’s actually pretty easy to cop out: We don’t have to go to school, that bossy institution that pokes and prods you while people you don’t particularly like get to watch,” Esquire editor Jay Fielden said in a piece explaining the origins of the story on Tuesday
“Add to this the passions and change this moment has unleashed–#MeToo, gender fluidity, Black Lives Matter, “check your privilege,” and “#TheFutureIsFemale–and the task of grappling with the world has to be more complicated for kids than it’s ever been,” Fielden continued.

The wife of Roy Moore, the controversial Senate candidate who has been accused of sexual misconduct with minors when he was in his 30s, raised eyebrows on Monday evening when she argued against claims that the couple were anti-Semitic by noting that “one of our attorneys is a Jew.”
“Fake news would tell you that we don’t care for Jews. And I tell you all this because I’ve seen it, and I just want to set the record straight while they’re here,” Kayla Moore said at a rally in Midland City, Alabama, the night before the election.

Twitter was divided on Thursday as people voiced their approval — or disappointment — over Sen. Al Franken’s resignation amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
Much like Franken himself did in his emotional Senate-floor speech, many tweeters pointed out the irony that the Minnesota Democrat was forced to resign over his alleged actions while other politicians who have been accused of sexual misconduct — including President Donald Trump and embattled Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore — have not faced consequences. (Trump and Moore have denied the allegations against them.)

Shortly after the release of the Senate Republican health care bill on Thursday, a group of protesters — some wheelchair-bound or wearing medical devices — were dragged away by police from the hallway outside of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office.
The protesters were members of the national disability rights group Adapt, who said the controversial health care bill is a direct threat to people with disabilities.
“We are at @SenateMajLdr demanding he stop the attacks on Disabled people’s freedom with #Ahca,” the group wrote on its Twitter page, including a video from the protest that appeared to show police...

Former President George H.W. Bush, 92, paid tribute to Roger Ailes in a tweet on Thursday, hours after the former Fox News chairman and CEO’s death was announced.
“He wasn’t perfect, but Roger Ailes was my friend & I loved him,” Bush tweeted. “Not sure I would have been President w/o his great talent, loyal help. Rip.”
Bush’s positive words stood out amid a swell of criticism over Ailes’ alleged sexual harassment of former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson and dozens of other female employees.
Before founding Fox News, Ailes served as a political consultant to Bush and other Republican presidents.

Jesse Watters of Fox News took to Twitter on Wednesday to defend himself over a seemingly suggestive comment he made about Ivanka Trump.
On Tuesday, the co-host of The Five discussed Trump’s presence at the W20 Summit for women’s empowerment in Berlin, during which the president’s daughter was booed for her comments claiming Donald Trump “has been a tremendous champion of supporting families and enabling them to thrive.”
Watters first began by bashing the left for disrespecting Trump and Europeans for turning the panel into “a soccer match.

On Tuesday, the Internet took a break from lambasting Republican Rep. Devin Nunes over his handling of the investigation into President Donald Trump‘s ties to Russia — and instead turned a critical eye on the congressman’s high school yearbook photo.
The throwback pic — which features Nunes sporting a spiky mullet and a white turtleneck — was tucked into an in-depth profile on Nunes published Monday by the Los Angeles Times. But the photo took top billing on Twitter, where commenters on both sides of the aisle put aside their political differences to revel in Nunes’ “bitchin’ high school haircut” and overall “rad 1991 look.
