House of the Dragon star Emily Carey has been winning praise for her role as young Alicent Hightower in the Game of Thrones prequel series, navigating the tricky role of the Hand of the King’s teenage daughter who is maneuvered into wedding the king himself — a man at least twice (possibly three times) her age.
The 19-year-old actress says one of her biggest challenges making the HBO fantasy hit paralleled her character’s greatest emotional difficulty during the tale’s opening run of episodes — navigating a romantic relationship with Viserys Targaryen (played by Paddy Considine, who is 49, though his character is made to appear far older as the season progresses). And since Carey was raised by a single mother, she also had to chart new emotional territory to forge a connection with Alicent’s father, Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans).

As much as the original "Orphan Black" series relied on the multifaceted talent of star Tatiana Maslany, the series was never just a one-woman show. While the current "She-Hulk" actor was doing her thing and embodying multiple different characters with widely divergent personalities, she was assisted by a strong supporting cast made up of the likes of Jordan Gavaris' Felix and especially Maria Doyle Kennedy's mother figure, Siobhan. The previously announced spinoff series, titled "Orphan Black: Echoes," appears to be taking this to heart and is off to a strong start with its newest casting.
Deadline reports that British actor Keeley Hawes, known for her performances in the 2018 miniseries "Bodyguard" as well as "Line of Duty," has joined the cast of "Echoes" in a co-lead capacity opposite Krysten Ritter. Although plot details remain under tight wraps, the report indicates that her character will be "a perceptive but sensitive scientist...

Keeley Hawes of Bodyguard and Line of Duty has signed on to join previously announced cast members Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Amanda Fix (Broken Diamonds), and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) in the cast of Orphan Black: Echoes, a new series set in the world of the sci-fi thriller Orphan Black. Deadline reports that Hawes is taking on the role of “a perceptive but sensitive scientist who finds herself at odds with her own moral code when circumstances lead her to make an unthinkable choice.”
The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes will consist of ten episodes. The show is set in the near future and will “explore the scientific manipulation of human existence”. It follows
a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

The upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, will feature an extensive ensemble cast. Even though the focus of House of the Dragon will primarily be on the Targaryens and their bloody civil war, there are plenty of characters outside the titular house of dragons that will help expand the world of Westeros during this time period. Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, we get to see familiar houses and families at different stages of power, as well as powerful houses like the Velaryons who are all but wiped out by the time Game of Thrones begins. Like its predecessor, House of the Dragon will likely have plenty of drama, conspiracy, and questionable relationships between its characters as the season moves forward, but here’s what we know about the main cast so far.

[Editor’s note: The following story contains some spoilers for “Spin Me Round.”]
It’s difficult to dispute Aubrey Plaza’s versatility. From embarking on a credit card-swiping crime spree in “Emily the Criminal” to just maybe being the new Lara Croft in a “Tomb Raider” reboot and even taking apart the very concept of acting in “Black Bear,” Plaza has gone out of her way to deconstruct any attempts at typecasting her.
So when “Spin Me Round,” the fourth collaboration with longtime creative partner and husband Jeff Baena, placed Plaza back in Italy after “The Little Hours” and upcoming Sicily-set Season 2 of “The White Lotus,” it was clear no one knew what to expect of her character. And boy, does Plaza keep us on our toes in the dark comedy that simultaneously subverts rom-com expectations and tells an all-to-true #MeToo story enhanced by a subtly slimy flavor that infects what should be a lush Tuscan getaway.

Didn’t we stop attributing human characteristics like an insatiable desire for vengeance to animals back in the late-‘80s, when Jaws: The Revenge laughably informed us, “This time it’s personal?” Apparently not. Angelina Jolie ‘told the FBI’ that Brad Pitt ‘grabbed her by the head’ during 2016 private jet fight
Details of Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie’s alleged fight onboard a private jet in 2016 have come to light after FBI documents were obtained by some publications.
According to the documents, Jolie told FBI officials that Pitt yelled at her, “grabbed her by her head,” shook her, “pushed her into the bathroom wall” and repeatedly punched the ceiling of the plane.
The records obtained by Rolling Stone and Puck say the outburst occurred 90 minutes into the flight between France and Los Angeles on 14 September, 2016.
In her statement, Jolie alleged that Pitt’s actions frightened their six children, who ranged from 8 years old to 15 at the time.
She said Pitt lunged at one of the children after they called him a “prick” at which point she held him back “in a choke hold”.
The Lara Croft actor also claimed that Pitt consumed multiple alcoholic beverages during the flight and “poured beer...

If you’ve ever fantasized about watching Aubrey Plaza show wanton disregard for ancient artifacts or escape the clutches of a raging river of death, you’re not alone. It turns out that Plaza would be open to playing Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider reboot if the opportunity arose. How did this bizarre casting idea come about? The situation started after Last Night in Soho’s Edgar Wright mistook Plaza for the iconic character on the cover of MovieMaker magazine. Word got out about the misinterpretation, and fans voiced their support for Plaza to raid some tombs.
“Look, I have no idea what the future holds for me, but I love it,” Plaza explained to Newsweek. “It was so funny when he texted me that because I didn’t realize how strikingly similar those photos are. Emily is carrying a purse strap and Lara Croft has a gun holster,...

Edgar Wright, casting agent?

She continued, “I love action movies, and I don’t discriminate against big movies or small movies. I love all kinds of movies. I would love it if somehow that turned into a real thing, but who knows, I have no idea. That’s an iconic character. She’s the original badass.

Even non-gamers are aware of the massive cultural impact that 1996’s Tomb Raider had on media. Not only did Eidos Interactive’s iconic release revolutionize adventure narratives in gaming, updating the simple thrills of titles like Pitfall into a truly immersive interactive experience, but it also gifted us with one of pop culture’s most recognizable characters through Lara Croft, a badass gaming mascot who is still holding her own against gun-toting super-soldiers and Italian plumbers in the year of our lord 2022.
Though the series has come a long way since the 90s, breaking boundaries with over a dozen mainline sequels, reboots and even a handful of cinematic adaptations (none of which were masterpieces but are still entertaining for a myriad of different reasons), there’s one aspect of the original game that rarely gets the attention it deserves despite being a crucial part of Tomb Raider’s overwhelming success.

Aubrey Plaza: certified action star and now, the next Lara Croft?
