The White House is slamming the New York Post for pushing out a video on social media, and later a cover story, claiming that President Joe Biden wandered off as he and other world leaders watched a skydiving demonstration at the G7 summit in Italy.
The Post video came with the message, “President Biden appeared to wander off at the G7 summit in Italy, with officials needing to pull him back to focus.”
But White House spokesman Andrew Bates noted that the video that the Post shared was cropped, missing the context of what Biden was doing: Speaking and congratulating another skydiver as some of the other world leaders were observing a separate diver.
Bates shared the video with the wider angle and wrote, “The Murdoch outlets are so desperate to distract from @Potus‘s record that they just lie. Here, they use an artificially narrow frame to hide from...

The Wall Street Journal has come under extensive criticism from the White House for a report on Joe Biden’s mental acuity, with spokespersons blasting the story for featuring just one on-the-record Republican source, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, to claim that the president is slipping.
On Wednesday morning, Morning Joe added to the chorus, with Joe Scarborough calling it a “Trump hit piece.”
In the piece, McCarthy said, “I used to meet with him when he was vice president. I’d go to his house. He’s not the same person.”
In the piece, McCarthy described speaking to Biden during debt ceiling negotiations in May of last year. McCarthy said that the president was sharp on the phone one day, but the next day, in an in-person meeting, the president “was going back to all the old stuff that had been done for a long time.”

An interview with the U.S. President in the hours before the Super Bowl has become a tradition in recent decades. Now that custom seems to be in danger of dying out.
President Joe Biden will not take part in an exchange during the pre-game festivities leading up to CBS’ broadcast of Super Bowl Lviii on February 11, CBS News confirmed. The Paramount Global news operation had been in discussions with the White House in recent weeks. Details about which correspondent might have been eyed for the assignment could not be learned, but the CBS News offer was believed to have been for a 15-minute interview, three or four minutes of which would have aired during the network’s pre-game coverage.
This will mark the second year in a row that President Biden has turned down the opportunity, which typically draws an audience of tens of millions, even in the hours before kickoff.

Former White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield has joined CNN as an on-air political commentator.
Bedingfield, who will be based in Washington, D.C., is the latest official from President Joe Biden’s administration to take an on-air role following a White House tenure. Former Press Secretary Jen Psaki hosts a weekend show for MSNBC, as does Symone Sanders-Townsend, who was chief spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Bedingfield served in his communications role at the White House since the start of Biden’s term to earlier this year, when she was succeeded by Ben Labolt. During the 2020 presidential campaign, she was deputy campaign manager and communications director, and served as Biden’s communications director when he was vice president. She also has worked for Jeanne Shaheen on her 2008 Senate campaign, and for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Bedingfield also held top communications posts at the Motion Picture Association and Monumental Sports and Entertainment.

Exclusive and Updated: Brittney Griner will attend tonight’s White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, which draws a list of sports and entertainment celebrities, media figures and politicos.
The WNBA star and Olympic gold medalist, whose arrest and detention in Russia last year led to a high stakes State Department diplomatic effort to secure her release, will be a guest of CBS News, per the network. She will attend along with her wife, Cherelle.
In her speech, Tamara Keith, the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, plans to speak about the current detention of another figure in Russia: The Wall Street Journal’s Evan Gershkovich, who has been held since last month. Members of his family are expected at the event. Griner spoke to reporters earlier this week about his arrest. “No one should be in those conditions, hands down,” she said, per The New York Times.

White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield is leaving the Biden administration, according to a statement released Friday by President Biden.
Bedingfield, who has led Biden’s communications apparatus for four years, will depart at the end of the month, and will be succeeded by Ben Labolt, a veteran of the Obama administration.
“Since my time as Vice President, Kate has been a loyal and trusted adviser, through thick and thin,” said Biden in a statement. “She was a critical strategic voice from the very first day of my presidential campaign in 2019 and has been a key part of advancing my agenda in the White House. The country is better off as a result of her hard work and I’m so grateful to her – and to her husband and two young children – for giving so much.”

White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield will leave the White House at the end of this month and will be succeeded by Ben Labolt, a veteran of the Barack Obama presidential campaigns.
Bedingfield led President Joe Biden’s communications team since the start of his presidential campaign in 2019, and then joined the administration at its start as communications director. She had planned to depart last summer, but then changed her plans and stayed on through the midterms. Bedingfield also served as Biden’s communications director when he was vice president, after serving as spokesperson for the Motion Picture Association of America.
Labolt led communications for the White House on the Supreme Court confirmation process for Ketanji Brown Jackson. He was senior national spokesperson for the Obama-Biden presidential campaign in 2008 and national press secretary for the campaign in 2012. He currently leads a San Francisco-based communications and marketing agency, Bully Pulpit Interactive.
