Since announcing the Jeopardy! spinoff Pop Culture Jeopardy!, fans are buzzing about who could take the reins of the new show. While both Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik have experience, they don’t seem to be the likely candidates for the new streaming series. While fans may not be able to decide the outcome, they have some very good insight into who the next possible host may be for the modern take on the show.
Jeopardy! Fans Don’t Think Ken Jennings Or Mayim Bialik Will Be The Choice

While the streaming series targets a different demographic, it is still very inclusive to everyone who wants to challenge their knowledge. The new Jeopardy! spinoff series will focus on Pop Culture questions and clues. Sherri Shepherd is speaking out after she appeared on ABC‘s Celebrity Jeopardy alongside Christopher Meloni and Katie Nolan on Wednesday, October 11, and had a less-than-favorable outing, finishing the game with a paltry $75. Addressing what happened, the day after on her syndicated talk show, Shepherd admitted, “There are [game] shows that look easy when you are sitting there, and there are shows that you would never do if you had the opportunity. Jeopardy!, for me, is one of those shows!” She continued, “I will destroy on $100,000 Pyramid. I eked out a win on Family Feud. … I love game shows, but Celebrity Jeopardy! is a show I should not have done at all.” “With Celebrity Jeopardy!, you gotta know a little bit about a lot of stuff. Law & Order: Organized Crime star Christopher Meloni and award-winning sportscaster Katie Nolan squared off on Wednesday’s (October 11) edition of Celebrity Jeopardy! in a tense tie-breaker showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats. Meloni and Nolan were two of the three celebrity contestants alongside The View co-host Sherri Shepherd. All three showed competitive spirit, but all eyes were on Meloni due to his previous Jeopardy! experience, having appeared on the show in 2006 and 2009. However, it was Nolan who ended up stealing the show, quickly getting out to a lead and leaving her opponents in the dust. The Friday Night Baseball commentator told host Ken Jennings that she and her husband watch the show nightly and that Tournament of Champions finalist Sam Buttrey is her “favorite contestant ever.” Celebs are just like us: they love Sam Buttrey! #CelebrityJeopardy! pic.twitter.com/GBJJY2e3co — Jeopardy! A reimagining of the classic 1950s TV game show I’ve Got A Secret is in the works. Sony Pictures Television’s Embassy Row, Werner Entertainment and Game Show Enterprises Studios, Gsn’s production arm, have teamed to produce the pilot for a potential series, hosted by Katie Nolan (Friday Night Baseball), that will be available for network and syndication.
In the hour-long part game show and part comedic talk show, four celebrity panelists will try and figure out each contestant’s “secret,” drawn from pop culture both past and present, by asking them a series of yes or no questions. Celebrity panelists for the pilot include comedians Nikki Glaser, Colton Dunn, Cristela Alonso and Matteo Lane.
Nolan will keep an eye on the panelists as they unravel each secret – sometimes playing the role of referee and other times acting more like a ringleader. Contestants win a cash prize if they stump the panel.

A promotion for House of the Dragon during last night’s New York Yankees-Cleveland Guardians playoff baseball game on TBS is continuing to draw online eyerolls the day after the stunt.
With parent company Warner Bros Discovery looking to make use of every pixel of promotional real estate, the notion of plugging the Game of Thrones prequel during a widely viewed live event like the Major League Baseball playoffs isn’t a surprise. Fox, after all, has pioneered the notion of wedging network pom-pom moments into its fall baseball coverage. But what mostly soured a vocal assortment of viewers and media watchers was the way the plug was executed.
Bob Costas, who was handling play-by-play duties, introduced the 40-second bit with a setup that was deadpan but resonated to some as earnest, especially among Yankee fans living in a city that has been the epicenter of a number of actual emergencies.

The New York Yankees are hosting the Boston Red Sox for a four-game series, but this edition of the teams’ fierce rivalry has different stakes than usual.
Rather than win-loss records or the playoff race, the main focus this time will be whether Yankees slugger Aaron Judge sets an American League record for home runs. Mary Nighy made her feature directorial debut with psychological thriller “Alice, Darling” and as she explains it, it was the desire to illuminate the title character’s inner secrets.
“When I was sent the script by Katie Nolan and Lindsey Tapscott, I read it and I felt like it was really interesting to see a character, in the character of Alice, who was struggling with so much internally,” Nighy said at The Wrap’s and Shutterstock’s Interview and Portrait Studio at the Toronto Film festival. “As a director, it’s quite interesting to try and bring what’s hidden out into the light because it’s quite difficult to visualize what’s happening inside someone.”

Katie Nolan, a one-time rising star at ESPN after being lured from Fox Sports, announced today online that she’s leaving the sports network.
“I’ve thought about sending this tweet for weeks and I still have no clue how to make it not make you all roll your eyes,” Nolan wrote on Twitter. “Alas: the obvious thing has happened. I no longer work at ESPN. I’m really grateful for my time here. I made incredible friendships and valuable mistakes.”
Nolan seemed to be on a rocket toward sports stardom when she left Fox in 2016 to move to ESPN. She received a hefty raise for the move and reportedly topped $1 million per year.
But despite lots of attention, Nolan’s star never really shined at ESPN. She hosted a podcast titled Sports? and a TV show called Always Late, which ran on ESPN+ and later ESPN2. Both featured Nolan’s sometimes salty commentary.

In addition to hosting her own digital series on ESPN Plus, “Always Late With Katie Nolan,” she also led a podcast, “Sports? With Katie Nolan” and co-hosted a version of “SportsCenter” on Snapchat. As more states start to allow residents to take part in sports wagering, ESPN has come up with a game presentation just for them. Executives call it the “BetCast.”
On Wednesday at 7 p.m., the Disney sports-media giant will air an alternate feed — called a “Daily Wager Special” after the company’s sports-betting program — of an NBA game that pits the Brooklyn Nets against the Philadelphia 76ers. Viewers who want to hear about the free throws and three-pointers can watch on the company’s flagship cable network. Those eager to discuss spreads and odds can watch sports-betting analysts cover the game on ESPN2 and ESPN Plus with customized graphics.
“We know the sports fan is evolving in how they use our games and our information, and we need to evolve with them, and provide them with alternative experiences” says Mike Shiffman, vice president of basketball production for ESPN, in an interview.

Former ESPN chief John Skipper and Dan Le Batard, the former host of ESPN network’s “Highly Questionable,” are teaming up to launch a new sports-focused content company.
Skipper, who resigned from ESPN in 2017, would remain in his current position as executive chair of Dazn Group but shift focus to daily oversight of the new company, according to the Miami Herald, which suggested that Kevin Mayer, a former high-ranking Disney exec who now is an adviser to Dazn parent company Access Industries, might take over his responsibilities at Dazn.
According to Sports Business Journal, Skipper and Le Batard’s are looking to sell Le Batard’s new podcast, which he launched after his recent ESPN exit, and hire a staff to create sports-focused editorial content for their company, with the expectation that the scope of content could branch out into other topics besides sports.

The purge at ESPN continues, as longtime show host Dan Le Batard will leave the network in January.
The announcement of his departure said Le Batard “will be leaving ESPN early next year to pursue a new opportunity.” His ESPN radio show, The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, will end Jan. 4. His hosting of the TV show Highly Questionable will finish the same day, but the show will remain on ESPN with what’s described as a “contributing team.”
“It was mutually agreed that it was best for both sides to move on to new opportunities and we worked together closely to make that possible,” said Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president and executive editor. “We thank Dan for his many years and contributions to ESPN and wish him all the best going forward.”

ESPN’s next potential superstar hasn’t thrown fancy passes on the field, and isn’t known for his prowess on the court, at the rink, in the ring or even on the track.
Omar Raja’s game is figuring out how to get sports fans chatting about, liking and passing along the video clips he makes of top athletes and plays. And that may be the skill most in demand at ESPN – and perhaps the TV industry at large – in a future likely to be dominated by new video-watching behaviors.
The 25-year-old’s home ground is Instagram, where he founded the House of Highlights account and parlayed it into one of the biggest new fonts of sports commentary in the business today. His prowess with viral video, originally with basketball clips, led WarnerMedia’s Bleacher Report to hire him. The House of Highlights account these days has 15.4 million followers.

Baseball has long been a game that both kids and adults can enjoy. ESPN will soon test whether that maxim still holds.
When the Disney-owned sports giant broadcasts one of the games in the annual Little League World Series on Wednesday, August 21, it will offer one traditional telecast on its flagship cable network and another geared for the younger crowd on ESPN2. The ESPN2 “kidscast” will feature two 16-year-olds offering commentary in the broadcast booth and two 15-year-old sideline reporters, who will likely be reporting on the state of the cotton candy and ice cream at the refreshments stand as much as they will on any action in the dugout, says Mark Gross, ESPN’s senior vice president of production and remote events.

I’d like to alert you to a medical condition I have made up called Obvious Sportscaster Syndrome (Oss), also known as Commentator Mouth. Movies that display symptoms of Commentator Mouth include broadcasters in sports movies delivering painfully obvious and exposition-laden dialogue during boxing matches, football games or the like. Oss most commonly affects genuinely talented, real-life sports journalists making cameos in otherwise good films. And the worst cases of Oss range from mildly irritating to completely taking you out of the moment. Not once has the presence of commentators actually added to a movie, and sadly, there is no cure. The latest to come down with the disease is “Creed II,” contracting it from the first “Creed” film and as far back as the “Rocky” sequels. If you or a movie you love suffers from Commentator Mouth, you may see it represented in the list below:

Quite a number of ESPN personalities have left for Fox Sports in recent years, but at least one prominent member of the sportstalk media went the other way: Katie Nolan has told GQ why she did the exact opposite in October. In a way, it’s all Cris Carter’s fault, and we’ve got the video evidence.
Nolan was a young, rising star when Fox debuted “Garbage Time With Katie Nolan” in March 2015. By February 2017, Nolan was literally taking her show on the road for Super Bowl Li — those live versions in Houston, featuring co-worker Carter as a main-chair guest, are where it all went wrong.
We’re mostly kidding about Carter being the problem, but his appearance and the argument that ensued turned out to be the impetus. Bigger-picture-wise, it was others meddling in her unique comedy/sports-hybrid format that put “Garbage Time” on the trash heap, Nolan now says.

Madonna defended her long speech at Monday’s MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday, explaining that she “did not intend to do a tribute” to Aretha Franklin with the speech.
“I was asked to present video of the year by MTV! And then they asked me to share any anecdotes I had in my career connected to Aretha Franklin!” the singer wrote in an Instagram post. “I shared a part of my journey and thanked Aretha for inspiring me along the way.”
Madonna presented Camila Cabello with the Video of the Year award on Monday night but entered the stage with a portrait of Franklin projected on the screen behind her. She opened with an anecdote about singing Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) a Natural Woman” at an audition, a long and roaming story that seemed more relevant to Madonna’s life and career than to Franklin’s.

Madonna was set to pay tribute to the Queen of Soul at Monday’s VMAs, but the speech seemed to be all about the Queen of Pop — Madonna herself, that is.
MTV asked Madonna to honor Aretha Franklin, who died Thursday, during her intro for the video of the year winner announcement. Most of the tribute to Franklin, however, was spent explaining the early origins of Madonna’s career. The only mention of Franklin was that Madonna sang “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman” to — ultimately unsuccessfully — audition for a song. She credited that failure with launching her into a different opportunity that led to the rest of her career.
She added towards the end of her speech: “I want to thank you, Aretha, for empowering all of us. R-e-s-p-e-c-t. Long live the queen.”

EA Sports just released a wild new trailer for “Madden 19” featuring a gaggle of celebrities like Nicki Minaj, comedian Chris Redd, rapper Lil Dicky, and more.
During the over three-minute-long video, Redd tells the rambling story of a “Madden 19” player named Will to a diner full of people, including Minaj and Dicky. Will made “the greatest play call ever,” you see. It was so good it apparently knocked his aunt out of her coma. Now, Will’s famous. ESPN emphasized its talent stable, consistency and strong parent company during its annual upfronts pitch to ad buyers at the Minskoff Theatre, home of Disney’s Lion King musical.
Much of the event felt familiar, but it was also the first upfront since president John Skipper abruptly resigned, his place taken by Jimmy Pitaro. Along with that management change, the company also reorganized and streamlined its sales efforts to account for changing viewer habits and ongoing erosion in full-day linear ratings. Reinforcing it all is what the company labels the “Disney difference,” with a promo reel at the end of the event highlighting titles not just on ESPN but across ABC and the movie studio.
“Before I took the job here, I was already a lifelong fan,” Pitaro told the crowd. “I had a personal relationship with this company for many years.” Today, he added, “no one has our unique combination of strengths.

Welcome to Day 2 of upfront week, otherwise known as Disney Day. Before ABC presents at Lincoln Center Tuesday afternoon, ESPN led off from Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre, home of “The Lion King.”
ESPN opened its presentation by welcoming its new president Jimmy Pitaro… at least that was what was announced until Kenny Mayne showed up instead, proclaiming “all the money deals go through me now.” (Pitaro did come out eventually.)
ESPN’s upfront presentation to advertisers featured the usual cadre of sports stars (though fewer than in past years) and ESPN personalities, including the new “Monday Night Football” team (with a cameo from Jerry Jones), Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriguez and Stephen A. Smith.

ESPN is extending its TV tendrils deeper into digital: The Disney-owned sports programmer announced plans for a condensed daily digital version of its flagship “SportsCenter” show, along with other new initiatives to reach younger-skewing audiences online.
At its inaugural Digital Content NewFronts event in New York, ESPN outlined three more original shows coming to Twitter, which comes under Disney’s broad-based ad and content pact with Twitter announced earlier this week.
In addition, it teased the upcoming debut of “Always Late With Katie Nolan,” hosted by the ESPN host and personality who joined the network last fall from Fox Sports.
The daily edition of “SportsCenter” will be coming to the ESPN App, available free to watch. The videos in the app will be featured on users’ home screen every morning, when they open the app. The cut-down digital adaptation of “SportsCenter,” featuring Scott Van Pelt and other “Sc” anchors,...
