2023 was a solid year for horror films, and even still, there were plenty of gems that went criminally underseen. Fortunately, because horror fans are some of the most rabid (see: passionate) fans around, even movies denied multi-million dollar ad campaigns can still find their people through word-of-mouth praise, fan art, and obsessive gushing. "The Ruins," "Jamie Marks is Dead," "Swallowed," and "Midnight Kiss" director Carter Smith's latest feature film is also his best, which is why it's such a shame that "The Passenger" (read our review here) is only now picking up mainstream attention. A thrilling two-hander starring horror fan favorite Kyle Gallner and relative newcomer Johnny Berchtold, "The Passenger" is the spiritual successor to Robert Harmon's "The Hitcher," and just as brutal.

His mother has died. Now what will he do? A Hard Problem The film releases today via various Video On Demand platforms. Visit the official site for more information. Quiet and composed, Ian (John Berchtold) begins to pack up the many belongings in his mother's expansive home. But something's not quite right. Most objects in this world appear quite similar to our own, yet there are sufficient distinguishing features that suggest that the characters in A Hard Problem exist in the near future. Grief is still the same, however, and clearly Ian is grieving, even if it is expressed in restrained gestures and tightened emotions, stretched thin, as we have already seen when he visits the medical facility where his mother passed away. When his...

Not to be confused with the Spanish road trip horror of the same name, The Passenger, the new film from Carter Smith, opens with a woman, blood spurting from her eye socket crawling towards a young boy. It’s a nightmare and Randy is woken from it to start another tedious day at Burgers, Burgers, Burgers. He should have taken it as an omen and stayed home.
As they’re getting the diner ready to open one of the other employees starts harassing him, something that seems to be a regular occurrence. Benson watches in disgust before walking out to have a smoke. Then, as if something just snapped he pulls a shotgun from his car and goes back inside killing everyone except Randy whom he takes hostage.

"There's something about you. There's something fixable. I believe that." So says Benson (Kyle Gallner), a fast food worker turned serial killer in "The Passenger," Carter Smith's lean, mean, bloody machine of a horror movie. Benson is speaking to Randy Bradley (Johnny Berchtold), his nervous, timid, frightened coworker. The two men are on a road trip through hell, and a road trip through Bradley's past. Benson has taken it upon himself to "fix" Bradley, and while his methods are questionable — and bloody — his assumptions about Bradley are not wrong. Bradley is the type of guy too frightened to correct people who get his name wrong; he's a sad, quiet bundle of nerves, haunted by an unfortunate incident from his past — an incident that has seemingly informed his entire shabby existence.
A melancholy horror blankets this movie — it's a frequently nasty piece of work with a kind of sadness in its heart.

There’s more than one way to be a passenger in life, not all of which involve vehicles. That’s certainly the case when it comes to the protagonist in Carter Smith’s propulsive new thriller, which functions like a therapy session on wheels between a murderous shrink and an unwilling patient. If the two of them don’t exactly paint the town red during their would-be getaway, it’s only because their journey was precipitated by a shocking act of violence in their place of business and they now have to keep a low profile. “The Passenger” does as well, and proves sneakily effective with its low-key approach to several kinds of violence.

"If I'm gonna help you, then I can't have you getting in my way. Because it forces me to hurt you. I need you to work with me, not against me." Paramount and MGM+ have revealed an official trailer for an action thriller horror crossover called The Passenger, the latest from the genre filmmaker Carter Smith. Not to be confused with Jack Nicholson's 1975 film also called The Passenger. This is a Blumhouse production, produced by Jason Blum, that will be dropping on VOD directly in August. A man is forced to face his fears and confront his troubled past. He must find a way to survive when his co-worker snaps and goes on a violent killing spree, taking him along for the ride. This one stars Kyle Gallner, Johnny Berchtold, Liza Weil, with Merah Benoit and Morgana Shaw. An unsettling trailer that gets uncomfortable by the end, but that's the point of this film.

Snow Falls opens with a warning sign, a pair of ravens sitting on the sign welcoming the characters to the town of Snow Falls. Netflix’s list of films premiering on the streaming service in 2023 isn’t nearly as long as their ambitious 2022 film slate. Yet even with a slimmed-down slate, the lineup of movies arriving this year is impressive and checks off nearly every genre.
The streamer will be dipping back into familiar territory with sequels to Murder Mystery and Extraction. Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, Sam Esmail’s Leave the World Behind, and David Yates’ The Pain Hustlers will premiere this year, as will the film continuation of Luther starring Idris Elba. And two romantic comedies with big-name casts made their way into the lineup: Your Place or Mine (Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon) and A Family Affair.

Snow Falls is a horror film directed by Colton Tran starring Jonathan Bennett, Patrick Fabian and Victoria Moroles.
A low budget film about some young people isolated in a log cabin that is just a horror film about young people, evolves as that and behaves as that, simply along the lines of pre-established parameters.
It is up to scratch technically and rhythmically, but the script falls short.
Storyline
Some friends are trapped in a winter storm. With no electricity and barely any food, they will be prey to terror, paranoia and deep dread about the snow that surrounds them.

Five young middle class (upper middle class) drinking shots of whiskey and enjoying their youth in a horror film. We have seen the pattern stated so many times in horror films that right from the beginning we feel a certain weariness in spite of the good presentation in the vein of The Shining.
A low budget film about some young people isolated in a log cabin that is just a horror film about young people, evolves as that and behaves as that, simply along the lines of pre-established parameters.
It is up to scratch technically and rhythmically, but the script falls short.

New year, new Netflix! January 2023’s slate can keep viewers entertained amidst all the gray skies and rainstorms, with new original films like “Dog Gone” starring Rob Lowe to classics like “Forrest Gump” starring Tom Hanks. Those who can’t get enough of the adrenaline of “Top Gun: Maverick” can stream the original film on Netflix now, too.
Other genres well-represented in the batch of new titles on Netflix in January include the whodunnit and rom-com, with several options like “The Pale Blue Eye” and “You People” landing as Netflix originals. For those in a more serious mood, “Brokeback Mountain” is now available. “Minions: The Rise of Gru” promises fun for the whole family with Illumination animation, child-favorite characters and a throwback to songs of the seventies for parents.

Dog Gone is a movie directed by Stephen Herek starring Rob Lowe and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. It is based on a book by Pauls Toutonghi.
A tv style saccharine movie with all the sickly sweet elements to delight the more family oriented viewers and create one or more ulcers for reviewers: full of clichés, easy, schematic and totally formulaic.
Storyline
A guy whose girlfriend has just dumped, gets a new friend, Gonker, with which, I guarantee, he manages a longer and more sincere relationship. The problem happens when he loses his dear friend and the guy will do everything he can to reunite with his friend… aided by his father, who has just arrived on his graduation day.

Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive clip Lionsgate’s Snow Falls, which stars Mean Girls’ Jonathan Bennett.
In the film…
“After a winter storm strands five friends in a remote cabin with no power and little food, disorientation slowly claims their sanity as each of them succumbs to a fear that the snow itself may be contaminated or somehow evil.”
Directed by Colton Tran, Snow Falls also stars John Berchtold (A Hard Problem), Victoria Moroles (“Teen Wolf”), Anne Grace Barlow (“The Fosters”), and Patrick Fabian (“Better Call Saul”).
The trailer looked a bit like a winter-set Cabin Fever, with a virus and subsequential madness, while the clip offers up the addition of a spooky snowman!
It will be released on demand and digital January 17th.

Who doesn’t love a heart-warming pet story? Rob Lowe stars as the dad in the father-son story of their search for their lost dog, Gonker. The trailer for the Netflix film finds its way online and features a journey through the wilderness as they encounter various colorful characters like tough bikers, news reporters interested in their story, and new-age hippies. Usually, films like these showcase the viewpoint from the dog’s perspective as the canine usually encounters a number of obstacles through their adventure in unknown territory, much like 90s family films, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, and Milo & Otis.
The plot synopsis from Netflix reads,
“After a young man and his beloved dog are separated on the Appalachian Trail, he and his father must begin a desperate search to find him before it’s too late. Based on an incredible true story of humanity and everyday heroism.Based...

"We will find that dog." Netflix has revealed the uplifting first official trailer for Dog Gone, a new missing dog movie from filmmaker Stephen Herek. This is based on the true story as covered in the book "Dog Gone: A Lost Pet's Extraordinary Journey and the Family Who Brought Him Home" by Pauls Toutonghi. Kind of like the story from the Disney classic Homeward Bound. Based on the true story of a father and son who repair their fractured relationship during a forced hike to find their beloved lost dog. Saturday, October 10, 1998. Fielding Marshall is hiking on the Appalachian Trail. His beloved dog bolts into the woods. Just like that, he has vanished. And Gonker has Addison's disease. If he's not found in twenty-three days, he will die. A search begins and many get involved in helping find him. The movie version stars Rob Lowe, Johnny Berchtold, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and Nick Peine.

"What if the snow is contaminated?" Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Snow Falls, the latest from young filmmaker Colton Tran. This one is being released direct-to-vod in January and hasn't played at any festivals, which should be a pretty good indication of the quality. After a winter storm strands five friends staying in a remote cabin for New Years Eve with no power and little food, disorientation slowly claims their sanity as each of them succumbs to a fear that the snow itself (that they ate as snow cones) may be contaminated or somehow… evil. But maybe it's not really the snow?? The film stars Victoria Moroles, Anna Grace Barlow , Johnny Berchtold, Jonathan Bennett, and Patrick Fabian. This looks really cheesy and cheap, not surprised they are dumping it in January. How much you want to bet all this happening is just in their heads?...
