These awards are based on fan interactions with music, but they’re not decided by an online vote. Instead, Billboard decides its finalists and winners using the metrics that determine the Billboard charts, including record sales, radio airplay and online streaming performance. Previously held during the spring, these awards have also moved to the fall to line up with the tracking period for Billboard’s year-end charts: November 19, 2022 through October 21, 2023.

Katy Perry Makes ‘Incredible’ Transformation Into Disney Superhero For ‘American Idol”s Disney Night
Katy Perry channeled her inner Disney supermom powers for Sunday’s special themed episode of “American Idol”.
For Disney night, the singer decided to dress up like Elastigirl (a.k.a. Mrs. Incredible) from “The Incredibles”.
“I figured out that Mother’s Day and Disney Night were the same night. I had a whole different costume — maybe we’ll never ever see it maybe we’ll see it next time — but I went, ‘No, we’ve got to be the most iconic Disney mom,’ and it’s Elastigirl,” Perry said while speaking with Et’s Denny Directo following Sunday’s new “Idol” episode.
According to Perry, she spent a lot of time watching the movie with her 2-year-old daughter, Daisy — whom she shares with Orlando Bloom — to prepare for embodying the iconic character.

Katy Perry doesn’t mind taking the internet by storm! Even when she doesn’t actually mean to.
Perry was in England earlier this month for the grand coronation ceremony for King Charles III — where she and Lionel Richie performed at the Coronation Concert. However, one moment went viral inadvertently when she couldn’t find her seat for the grand occasion inside Westminster Abbey.
“Well, I just want everybody to know, thank you so much for your concern,” Perry deadpanned while speaking with Et’s Denny Directo following Sunday’s new American Idol. “I found my seat.”
The pop superstar looked stunning in a lilac-colored ensemble, arriving with British Vogue Editor Edward Enniful at Westminster Abbey on May 6. But as she entered the church ahead of the historic ceremony, Perry was spotted wandering around as she struggled to find her seat.

It’s not often that American Idol ends an episode on a “no” audition. In fact, it’s possible that it’s never been done before. But Fire Wilmore and her heartbreaking story were the exception on Sunday, March 19. Katy Perry offered a rare second chance to Fire, a single mom, allowing her to audition for American Idol twice in one season — which is usually against the rules. Check out Fire’s emotional and inspiring audition below and read about how she got there.
Fire on ‘American Idol’ | Eric McCandless/ABC Who is Fire Wilmore on ‘American Idol’?
Dani Marie Wilmore, known by her stage name Fire, grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma under state custody due to her mother’s drug addiction. As Fire put it, her life “sucked.” Then, when Fire was 18 years old, she had her daughter, Maja. Fire knew immediately that she needed to give Maja a better life than she had.
