Elisabeth Moss has booked another series at Hulu, with an assist from FX.
The Emmy-winning Handmaid’s Tale star will topline an FX-produced thriller called The Veil. Moss will also be an executive producer of the limited series, which comes from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
“We’re excited to continue our partnership with Steven Knight on The Veil and thrilled to have Elisabeth Moss sign on for the lead role,” said Nick Grad, president original programming at FX. “Steven’s scripts are riveting and no doubt will showcase Elisabeth’s exceptional talent.”
The Veil will focus on the fraught relationship between two women who, according to the show’s logline, “play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. One woman has a secret, the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost.

Former President Barack Obama has sent out a cease and desist letter telling a pro-President Donald Trump group to stop airing an attack ad that uses Obama’s voice to misrepresent his position on Joe Biden.
The ad, running on South Carolina TV stations, is aimed at voters considering Obama’s former Vice President as the Democratic presidential nominee in the state’s upcoming primary.
“Joe Biden promised to help our community. It was a lie. Here’s President Obama,” the ad says. It then uses an audio clip from Obama’s 1995 memoir, Dreams from My Father, to indicate that Biden supports “plantation politics.” South Carolina has a large black population and their support is considered a key to reviving Biden’s hopes to be the Democratic victor in the primary.
The ad concludes with the message, “Enough. Joe Biden won’t represent us, defend us, or help us. Don...

The FBI on Friday filed a criminal complaint in California that sheds new light on a spree of mysterious cyberattacks that targeted Bryan Caforio, a Democratic candidate for Congress who ran for office in one of the most competitive primary elections of the 2018 midterms.
The FBI’s complaint says there is probable cause to believe that Arthur Dam carried out the four separate cyberattacks on Caforio’s website that took down the site at crucial moments in the closely contested primary. Dam was a consultant for Katie Hill, who beat...

Exclusive: Iatse has launched a campaign to unionize the production and post-production workers at The Young Turks, the left-leaning online news outlet that produces a variety of programs, including its flagship talk show, The Young Turks.
The company was founded in 2002 by chief on-camera personality Cenk Uygur, who is running for the House seat vacated by former Rep. Katie Hill.
The website’s crew members announced their decision to unionize in a statement posted today on social media. “We’re proud to work behind the scenes at Tyt to create online content that’s bold, entertaining, and unapologetically progressive,” they said in a statement. “There is no other news and talk network quite like Tyt, and the perspective our network brings to its political coverage is resolutely pro-justice and pro-worker. In 2013, Gawker published a sex tape featuring the wrestler Hulk Hogan and a female partner, the then-wife of his best friend Bubba the Love Sponge. The outrage following this story emerged at a slow trickle: while some media commenters suggested the story may have been in poor taste, most viewed it as just another example of the tabloid’s notoriously unruly ethos; i.e., just Gawker being Gawker. Then, in 2016, Hogan filed a $100 million lawsuit against Gawker, alleging invasion of privacy. He won, with the jury ruling a $140 million award for Hogan.

Rep. Katie Hill (D-ca) blasted what she called a “double standard” as she resigned from her House seat following the publication of explicit photos on the right-wing site RedState.
“I am leaving now because I no longer want to be used as a bargaining chip,” she said on the floor of the House on Thursday. “I am leaving because I didn’t want to be peddled by papers and blogs and websites and used by shameless operatives for the dirtiest gutter politics that I have ever seen.”
She said that the photos were taken without her knowledge or consent and were being used “for the sexual entertainment of millions.”
She said that ever since the images surfaced, she had “barely left her bed.” Her appearance today for the vote on an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump was the first time since then that she had left her apartment, she said.

On Wednesday’s Full Frontal, Samantha Bee examined the inadequacies of American revenge porn laws, using the upcoming resignation of first-term Congresswoman Katie Hill (D-Calif.) as a springboard into that important discussion.
Hill will step down on Friday after acknowledging an inappropriate relationship with a campaign staffer — a decision that Bee described as “the right call.” But the politician is also a victim: She says explicit, private photos of her were leaked without consent by her estranged husband and published by conservative political blog RedState and British tabloid the Daily Mail.

Washington — Andy Kim had finally seen enough.
Until Tuesday, the freshman congressman from New Jersey’s 3rd district had kept a wary distance from the debate over whether to impeach President Trump. Kim, who is 37, won his South Jersey district by a few thousand votes in 2018, ousting a Republican incumbent and helping Democrats regain the majority in the House of Representatives. The Democratic Party has named him one of its so-called frontline members who are running for reelection in tough districts and whose campaigns will get extra help from the party.

California Congresswoman Katie Hill says there’s a reason the Democratic National Committee decided to block Fox News from hosting any 2020 presidential primary debates — Democratic viewers have no interest in watching the channel.
“I think we know that there are basically no Democrats who watch Fox News, so to me that’s pretty fair,” Hill told host Chris Wallace this weekend on Fox News Sunday.
Wallace disagreed with her assessment.
“That’s not true. There are a lot of Democrats who watch Fox News and a lot of independents who watch Fox News,” he said.

Powerful political women are becoming more common on our screens.
Robin Wright is playing the president on “House of Cards,” Elizabeth Marvel’s character sits in the Oval on “Homeland,” and on CBS’ “Madam Secretary,” Téa Leoni’s Elizabeth McCord is planning her move from Secretary of State to the White House. Selina Meyer may have lost the Presidency on “Veep” in Season 6, but she’s back on the presidential campaign trial in Season 7.
America is not there yet, but Hollywood may be moving it closer. The popularity of these story lines, combined with celebrities willing to tell their #MeToo stories and create the #TimesUp movement, has infiltrated the public zeitgeist and arguably left a mark on the midterm elections.

Jill Soloway is on a mission. The Transparent creator's new book, She Wants It: Desire, Power, and Toppling the Patriarchy, is part memoir and part activist's manual, tracing her own feminist awakening alongside her career evolution. For Soloway - who says "she" and "her" pronouns are "fine," but "they" and "them" are "frosting" - toppling the patriarchy begins with drowning out the noise of division.
"The right divides us up so we're all doing this kind of whack-a-mole - we're protecting queer people, trans people, people of color, Jewish people," Soloway told Popsugar Friday at the Wrap's Power Women Summit in La. "Everybody's trying to put out the fires as all of the other-ized people are being disparaged. The truth is we all need to come together under one message of: we are all other, and what we have in common is love and tolerance."
Soloway takes their own responsibility...

Iatse president Matt Loeb is hailing Tuesday night’s election returns as “a victory for working people all across the country,” saying that “Iatse-supported candidates won in almost every state where we competed.”
One of those winning candidates was Democrat Katie Hill, who unseated Republican Steve Knight in a tight congressional race in Southern California. Iatse’s political action committee contributed $5,000 to her campaign, but it also gave $1,000 to Knight, who conceded the race today.
The vast majority of its Pac’s nearly $450,000 in campaign contributions went to Democrats, but it also gave $2,500 to incumbent Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, who narrowly defeated Democratic challenger Scott Wallace in the race to represent Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district. It also gave $2,500 to the campaign committee of Bob Goodlatte, the outgoing Republican chair of the House Judiciary Committee, who did not seek re-election.

The WGA West’s political action committee had a strong midterm election night, helping to flip the House of Representatives. Twenty-six of the 31 candidates it endorsed – all Democrats – were elected, including 18 of the 19 House candidates it backed, and nine of its 14 senatorial picks.
Most of the candidates it supported were incumbents, but the union also backed two candidates who defeated incumbent Republicans: Jackie Rosen, who unseated Nevada Sen. Dean Heller, and Harley Rouda, who ousted longtime Southern California Rep. Dana Rohrabacher and helped give the Democrats control of the House.
The guild’s Pac, which backed up its endorsements with more than $200,000 in campaign contributions, also supported winning senators Dianne Feinstein, Elizabeth Warren, Jon Tester, Tammy Baldwin, Sherrod Brown, Maria Cantwell and Amy Klobuchar along with Bernie Sanders, an independent who caucuses with the Dems.
