Get ready to be terrified as Thorpe Park is bringing back its Fright Nights for a 14th year next month.
The annual celebration of all things horror and Halloween will return from October 9 to November 1, including a brand new Big Top Carnival maze.
Digital Spy was scared witless by the event last year, so expect 2015 to be even more disgusting.
The Big Top will feature an array of sordid characters including adult babies, clowns and mime artists as they creep you out while trying to work your way through the dank corridors.
Other experiences will include a Fortune Teller's Wagon, a mirror maze with clowns, a creepy fun house, a torture chamber and a circus 'scare room'. If that doesn't put hair on your lips, nothing will.
Returning this year are the mazes dedicated to horror classics The Blair Witch Project, My Bloody Valentine, The Cabin in the Woods and Saw.

So I definitely ticked one of my life boxes this week by spending some time with the legendary Mr Samuel L Jackson. Big Sam was in town promoting a charity that he's an ambassador for called One For The Boys - a men's cancer charity highlighting the importance of checking yourself.
On Friday, my wife Rochelle and I were invited to see Take That on tour. You know what? You have to hand it to Gary, Mark and Howard, they really know how to put on a show - or should I say a spectacle. Also, you know you have had some serious hits when a show that is over two hours long just flies by. Big shout out to Gary for inviting us down, we absolutely loved it, top man!
Sunday it was of course all about the Vodafone Big Top 40. All eyes once again were on the number one spot.

8 Feet Tall and Light as a Feather: Walker and Lamattina Chronicle the Life and Love of a Puppeteering Legend
You’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t know Big Bird. Of the many beloved creatures that sprang from the genius of Jim Henson, Sesame Street’s Big Bird may well be the most universally recognizable. Bearing the spirit of a child within the body of an 8-foot canary yellow behemoth, Big Bird became a larger than life icon of children’s television. Yet, despite Caroll Spinney’s famed collaborators and lengthy list of accolades that include Emmys, Grammys, and even a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, you may not recognize the lanky, mop-headed man who has brought the bird, as well as Oscar the Grouch, to life for the last 45 years. Following the success of Constance Marks’s Kevin Clash bio-doc Being Elmo, directors Chad Walker...

It’s Friday, and the secret word is “selfie.” (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) Paul Reubens made his Instagram debut today with the first photo from the set of Pee Wee’s Big Holiday. It’s a photo taken by Joe Manganiello, who just joined the cast last week. Pee Wee’s Big Holiday marks the first time Reubens has returned to the character that made him a household name since 2010’s The Pee-wee Herman Stage Show: The Return, and the first Pee Wee film since the regrettable Big Top…...

The fearsome secret origin of iconic Super-Villain The Scarecrow is revealed on Feb. 2 and Feb. 9, when Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bullock (Donal Logue) track down a killer who murders in the name of science. On Feb. 16, Gotham City turns into a three-ring circus when a clown attack traps Gordon and Dr. Thompkins (guest star Morena Baccarin) under the Big Top, and Gordon meets John Grayson (guest star Rob Gorrie), the father of the future Robin. Finally, on Feb. 23, Gordon and Bullock track down the Red Hood Gang, as Selina (Camren Bicondova) plays a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with Ivy (guest star Clare Foley). So, the Red Hood Gang are indeed coming to Gotham City. As those of you familiar with The Joker's comic book origin story will know, he led that group before falling into the vat of chemicals during a fight with Batman which transformed him into...

Is there an official petition we can sign in protest of NBC’s spoiler-filled “Next week on…” promos?
I realize that might be a bit excessive, but there’s no better example of the Peacock Network ruining a climactic moment than Thursday’s episode of Parenthood, which found Joel and Julia finally taking a baby step toward reconciliation.
Even though we Joel/Julia fans were cheering at our TV screens (and/or wiping that darn dust out of our eyes) when Joel finally fought for his wife, didn’t we all know this moment was coming? Aside from the dialogue,...

Disney is set to adapt the children’s novel The One And Only Ivan, written by Katherine Applegate (Animorphs).
Published by HarperCollins in 2011, The One and Only Ivan follows an easygoing gorilla. Living at the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade, he has grown accustomed to humans watching him through the glass walls of his domain. He rarely misses his life in the jungle. In fact, he hardly ever thinks about it at all.
Instead, Ivan thinks about TV shows he’s seen and about his friends Stella, an elderly elephant, and Bob, a stray dog. But mostly Ivan thinks about art and how to capture the taste of a mango or the sound of leaves with color and a well-placed line.
Then he meets Ruby, a baby elephant taken from her family, and she makes Ivan see their home—and his own art—through new eyes. When Ruby arrives,...

To mark Halloween, Patrick counts down the ten Scooby Doo episodes most likely to make you say 'zoinks!'...
I cried “zoinks!” and jumped into Shaggy’s arms watching Shaun of the Dead. I averted my eyes and whispered “jeepers” when Skinner impaled his chin in Hot Fuzz. I tried to calm my post-horror nerves by downing bagfuls of Scooby Snacks – but to no avail – I simply have no taste for horror films, for gore, for gratuitous violence.
And that’s why, when I was a nipper, I would cower behind the sofa when the Scooby Doo theme played. I’m too young to remember the Daleks in their 60s heyday when they drove audiences out of the room with their immortal cry of “exterminate” and so the programme that sent me quivering with fear was Scooby Doo. But, like the pepperpots of Doctor Who,...

What started as an indie rock drummer selling his set on eBay has definitely turned ugly. Former Guided by Voices drummer Kevin Fennell posted an auction for his drumset last week, though no one was able to meet the $55,000 starting bid, and bidding closed Thursday morning without a single interested party. His band took offense to that, posting on its Facebook page that it had "nothing to do" with the posting, and that Fennell was "no longer in the band." After an apocalyptic deluge of torrential rain battered the festival with several setbacks in 2012, Isle Of Wight festival promoter John Giddings responded by securing one of the strongest line-ups in recent years. In addition to pulling in some real overseas musical behemoths (The Killers, Bon Jovi, Blondie) the 2013 line-up also boasted a collective of quintessentially British bands who, over the years, have helped mould the UK music scene into what it is today (The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Paul Weller).
The festival has always been known for paying homage to its rich musical heritage by pulling in an eclectic mix of old and new bands that cater for the mainstream as well as more divergent acts, and the line-up for 2013 did not disappoint.

New York — The great comedian W.C. Fields is credited with the line, "Never work with children or animals." He would have had trouble on Broadway this season.
There were kids at every turn – "Motown: The Musical," "Kinky Boots," "Annie," "Matilda the Musical," "A Christmas Story, the Musical" and "Pippin." And animals? Dogs in "Annie," "Pippin" and "A Christmas Story, the Musical," a cat in "Breakfast at Tiffany's," a dead crow in "Macbeth" and even a live vulture in "The Testament of Mary."
But now that it's Tony Awards time, it's the moment for the adults to shine. No kids or pets made it through the nomination process, so only grown-ups will emerge victorious Sunday night.

Sleep Tight (DVD/Blu-ray)
Spanish psychological horror from director Jaume Balagueró. The film follows César (Luis Tosar), the concierge to the residents at a wealthy apartment building. César seems extraordinarily helpful and polite and is consequently adored by the residents, but little do they know that he is in fact a man so incapable of happiness and human feeling that he makes it his goal in life to make others as miserable as he is. He focuses much of his attention on Clara (Martra Etura), a beautiful young...

The characters, who magically came to life when their last stitch was sewn, each have a unique personality based on the fabrics that were used to make them and a special pet. Lalaloopsy is co-produced with Mga and Moonscoop Prods.

In the just-released trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s latest project Olympus Has Fallen, things go from bad to worse for the President (played by Aaron Eckhart) and the country. First his Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) gets into an accident which presumably kills the First Lady (Ashley Judd). Later, terrorists attack D.C. from the air and the ground to overtake the White House.
And then…well…you should probably watch the trailer after the jump. It’s pretty spoiler heavy. But essentially, it’s up to ex-Special Forces Officer Banning (“the same guy who was removed from...

Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) 20th Century Fox Blu-ray and DVD Available Now
Six-year-old Hushpuppy (fearless newcomer Quvenzhané Wallis) lives in the “Bathtub,” a southern Louisiana bayou community far removed from the civilized world. Her father Wink (Dwight Henry), a poor fisherman, keeps her at arm’s length but ensures her well-being within the cultural confines of their rough-and-tumble society. Seen through the eyes of the feisty Hushpuppy, the lines between myth and reality are blurred. An impending storm coincides with the melting of the arctic ice caps (and the thawing of some mythical creatures), which changes the world of the Bathtub forever. This heartbreaking little fable came out of nowhere last summer after building some positive buzz on the festival circuit. Shot on 16mm film for under $2 million, Beasts is a true independent film: a fiercely original and moving...

One of the eliminated contestants on Dancing with the Stars Tuesday said it best after the show: “How much more could I have done?” Not much — except maybe move around the dance floor like a limber ex-gymnast. To read the parting words from the latest victims of a double elimination night, head to the jump:
Emmitt Smith is not sure how much harder he could have worked to make it to the end. So the fact that he, along with Apolo Ohno, were the latest to leave the ballroom floor doesn’t necessarily fill him with regret or sadness. “How...

In their final bid at making it to the finals, the remaining five Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars competitors took on two difficult dances in tonight's season 15 semi-finals
The late Michael Jackson was honored Monday in the presence of his mother Katherine Jackson with dances choreographed to the singer's Bad album commemorating its 25th anniversary. The All-Stars also tackled a mash-up of wacky dances chosen by another couple in the game.
Pics: Remembering Michael Jackson on his B-Day
Leading the pack tonight were Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough who took in a whopping 59/60 points. The pair earned three tens for their Knight Rider/ Bhangra combo and 29/30 (9,10,10) points for an Argentine Tango performed to Michael Jackson's Bad.
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani took the number two spot with 57.5/60 points total. The talented twosome earned a perfect score for their sensual Argentine Tango choreographed to Mj's Dirty Diana and a 27.5 (9,9.5,9) points for a creative Caveman /Hustle.

When Dancing With the Stars hands you lemons, choreograph lemonade. And the show, nearing the end of its All-Stars season, has been unrelenting of late in its odd challenges for the remaining contestants. Tackling two dances apiece on Monday's episode, the five remaining couples had to start their night with one-of-a-kind interpretive numbers like "Caveman Hustle" and "Espionage Lindy Hop" that combined random nouns and descriptors with obscure styles of dance. The results ranged from the highly successful ("Knight Rider Bhangra") to the pitifully bizarre ("Big Top Jazz"), leaving some with a far greater advantage going

Chicago – An injection of A-list voice talent (including Bryan Cranston, Martin Short, Frances McDormand, and Jessica Chastain) along with a new setting proves to be just what the “Madagascar” franchise needed. “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” is the best of the three films, a fun, clever ride that works for both kids and adults. While the past two films had tons of bonus material with their Blu-ray releases, this one’s a little lackluster. But the movie itself should make thousands of wee ones happy this holiday season.
Rating: 3.5/5.0

The movie still gets weighed down in too many pop culture references but it’s more fun than a vast majority of...

This week is no laughing matter as we pick out the best clown cameos – from the weepy to the creepy
This week's Clip joint is by Martyn Conterio. Think you can do better? Email your idea for a future Clip joint to adam.boult@guardian.co.uk
The movies have turned the once buffoonish, humble clown into an often monstrous screen entity. If they're not kidnapping victims to eat (à la Killer Klowns From Outer Space) then they're pathetic, mopey sorts "crying on the inside". Coulrophobia, too, goes some way to explain what we can describe as their inherent creepiness and strangeness. After all, aren't these guys supposed to make us laugh with daft antics and pratfalls in the arena of a Big Top?

Actor often cast in sleazy, raunchy roles
Susan Tyrrell, who has died aged 67, had all the makings of a cult movie star. Husky-voiced and eccentric, she was a dissipated flower child, somewhat resembling an underground Shirley MacLaine. No wonder she was cast in outrageous roles in Bad (1976) and Cry-Baby (1990), which gained her fans among the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Tyrrell (pronounced Tie-rell), who liked to be called SuSu, was attracted to the bizarre. "I find beauty in the grotesque," she once said, "and in the sweet soul inside someone who has been able to get through their life without being a rat's ass. Such people should be collected, should be swept up immediately and kept in a box of broken people."
One of the broken people she portrayed so vividly was Oma, the pathetic, drunken barfly in John Huston's Fat City (1972), for which she was nominated for an Oscar.

Susan Tyrrell, an Academy Award-nominated actress, but known more for her off-beat cult movies, has passed away at the age of 67. According to her official website, she died Sunday, June 16. A cause of death was not immediately available.
Tyrrell burst onto the national film scene in her fourth movie, John Huston's 1972 cult hit "Fat City." She was the low-down boozer girlfriend opposite Stacy Keach's has-been boxer Billy Tully. The role earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
She went on to star in more cult classics like "Bad," "Forbidden Zone," "Angel" and "Avenging Angel," but some know her best as Midge Montana from "Big Top Pee Wee," Chuck the bartender from 1988 musical "Rockula" or Johnny Depp's on-screen Aunt Ramona Ricketts in the 1990 John Waters cult musical "Cry-Baby." She also starred in Depp's 1990 short film "Every Little Thing, Neil."
